OOC (This whole thread is OOC): I have some longterm plans for the Resplendent Dawn that I am working on, and I would like to let you guys in on them. This way we can collaborate a bit, and hopefully, you guys will have some input for me. For some time, I was planning to have King Alexander of Gallia killed off, and have his land incorporated into the Empire. However, instead, I am going to have him miraculously healed. Afterwards, he is going to join a monastery. Now, I am going to have him specifically forbid the Kingdom of Gallia to be incorporated into RD, because he feels that adding Gallia to RD would antagonize foreign powers. Instead, he will name his younger brother Josiah the new King of Gallia, and seek full and complete independence for Gallia. Fast forward a bit, and Constantine eventually dies. Even if I get a bride for him by that point, he will leave no sons. The Imperial Council of Ministers will name the youngest brother Michael (after Constantine, Alexander, and Josiah, not including the girls) Emperor, and the Governer of the African province (its not going to be a province for some time though) will be named his regent until he comes of age. Anyway, Josiah will contest the throne from Gallia, demanding that he be recognized as the legitimate Emperor of a unified Empire, since he is older than Michael. This will set the stage for a new civil war/war of succession. I also intend for there to be a religious element in the war. While the Orthodoxy of the Empire will not be threatened, I intend a Catholic v. Muslim conflict. The African Governer would favor greater ties with Muslim nations, will Josiah will favor ties with Catholic nations. This will probably lead to some foreign involvement in the war, which is my hope. I am open for either side to win, and the results would determine my successive foreign policy. Either outcome, would end in a unified empire. So what do you guys think? This is all planning very far ahead, but I want to get my plans out in the open. I hope to get some feedback and some ideas. |

Marry Josiah to a Catholic Royal. New Harumf has a daughter you could possibly marry him to. |

Well, Josiah himself will be Orthodox. The idea was that since Gallia is more sympathetic to Catholicism, his years ruling Gallia would make him more sympathetic to Catholics, and less so to the Islamic nations. Would it be ok to marry him to a Catholic, even if he is Orthodox? If that is ok, then I'd love to marry him to a Catholic. Perhaps one of his sisters could also get married to a Catholic royal, and it could be a double wedding? However, this will still be some time in the future. |

BTW, on the Civil War, I didn't want either side to be definately "right." The Ministers chose the Michael because he would be younger and more controllable. They claim that because Alexander refused to incorporate Gallia it would be illegal for Josiah to take the Throne of RD. Josiah, on the other hand, claims that he should not be disqualified, and the RD would be his by birthright. I feel that both sides have reasonable claims. |

Well Charles I was Protestant, Henrietta Maria Catholic (and a very strong one at that). She was, basically, hated at the English court (seen as a Papal and French puppet etc) and he was kinda Catholic-sympathetic (which could be the same for Josiah). Eventually resulted in him losing his head. Now, this could be re-modelled for you. The Pope, through the Catholic Queen, could inspire Josiah to go and try and take the Dawnsian throne for himself (or his children who could be descendants of Emperor Emmanuel). That could lead to his head coming off. Just an idea, needs more work and thought but the basics are there. |

That sounds good. It could definately work with my outline. Though, we could also consider the possiblity of Josiah winning :D In that case, RD would be one of the semi-Holy League nations you mentioned instead of BP. You mentioned descendants of Emperor Emmanual. Are you suggesting that one of Emmanual's descendants to marry Josiah? That could work well. By the way, if the African Governer wins, then I intend to have him use the regency as a way to try to gain his own power and possibly usurp the throne and found a new dynasty. |

Yeah, he could marry a descendant because that would seem to give even more legitimacy to the claim, by claiming on behalf of his wife/children. |

That's true. His children would be descendents of Emmanual and Melchior. It would be like they had resolved the First War of Succession themselves ;) That's a good idea. I'll bring Emmanuel's family out soon. The amusing thing is that because my timeline is so different from yours, one of Maryam's little sisters would be about Josiah's age! Maybe, after Emmanuel was executed as a traitor, his wife and children could have went into exile in Catholic Europe? |

Sounds nice...This will be a good war to use the Army of God. You could make it where if the Catholics win they would kill every non-catholic, causing a good reason for revolt later down the road...Giving you a some more to give to your story line. |

Well if the Catholics fight in this war, they would be putting a Catholic sympathetic Orthodox on the throne. Unless they simply took over the Empire themselves, killing all non-Catholics wouldn't really work here, since the pro-Catholic claimant would still be Orthodox. But, otherwise, yes, the Army of God could fit in, if the Holy League desires to put a Catholic-friendly ruler on the throne. |

I'm not sure... the whole thing just started up. Maybe the Colognian Catholics and the Orthodox Community could work together relatively closely. Reconcile enough to share communion, that sort of thing. The Colognian Catholics wouldn't become an Orthodox church, but the two could, at the very least, not be enemies, and, at most, they could become allies. |

Reconciling enough to share communion = Colognian church becoming orthodox. We could be friendly, but remember, Gallia traditionally has closer relations with CE than RD does. Gallia supplied a Pope and has a strong Catholic population. Its possible that some of them may join your schism. Gallia will probably not be enemies, but as far as they are concerned, you aren't really better than the Pope's Church. And if you are planning modernist reforms, then you are even worse  |

I thought the modern Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church shared communion. But, then again, RD isn't the same thing as the modern Orthodox Church. Still, we could work something out. |

The modern Catholic Church, since V2 allows intercommunion with the Orthodox, but stipulates that Catholics seeking communion in an Orthodox Church, or Orthodox seeking communion in a Catholic Church must also heed the opinion of the Orthodox bishops. The Orthodox Church does not allow intercommunion with the Catholic Church, so the V2 policy has no effect. And you are right that my Church is not the modern Orthodox Church! :D We take a harder line. If you know anything about current Orthodox politics, we are traditionalists rather than ecumenists. But a fundamental principle of Orthodox ecclesiology is that communion must reflect the same faith and sharing communion in true faith is what makes one church. |

Well, with three power catholic nations and one catholic colony in Africa, it wouldn't be that much trouble to have the Catholics fight and defeat Michael. Actually this would work for something me and TC wanted to do, we've been looking into the idea of doing a crusade, and personally this would be a good one given it's closeness to both out Catholic nations. Of course we'd rally New Harumf and Norightsia's colony to our cause and storm the colony. For me, it's been nice to put the Neo-Macedonian troops to use (since our nation tends to be on the peaceful side). Of course the Pope would have to give us permission for the crusade and so that it doesn't look like Catholic aggression he could give us permission in secret. That way when people start to shack their fingers at the church, the Pope could just say we were acting on our own and public condemn us. |

Well, really we'd crusade to crush the Orthoxdoxy, at least crush it's hold on Africa, of course with your storyline it wouldn't really accomplish this. However, with Josiah simpothizing with the Catholics and needing help it would be enough for us I think. Besides we can always have the naive notion that by showing you our Catholic might you may wish to reconsider your faith. |

Ok, that sounds good. Tunisia is very Muslim, which is why the Governer will be pro-Muslim. On the other hand, since Gallia has a good number of Catholics, Josiah will be pro-Catholic. Makes sense, right? |
