OOC: Even if you didn't say you were coming, you can still post reactions to the ceremony or service if you want. IC: Tens of thousands of people were gathering in the downtown square of the city of Christchurch. The citizens and local businesses in the vicinity of the downtown area were asked to turn off their lights so that there would be no light pollution during the candle lighting ceremony. It was completely dark as the ceremonial leader, Bishop Johnathan Hanover, called for silence in the crowd. A hush soon came over the crowd and when it was completely silent in the square, the bishop lit the first candle and held it up for the crowd to see. It was the first of 300 million candles that were set to be lit that night. Soon, others near him lit their candles as well and held them up. The square exploded into a starfield of candles. Across the city, people lit candles and held them up to the sky. It was a moving sight and the thought of 300 million people dead passed through everyone's minds. The ground was soon covered in wax drops and tears. The ceremony would last throughout the night and when the morning sun peeked over the horizon, all the candles would be extinguished. |

The Quaonion ambassador, Juliet Elenanor, lit her candle, tears welling in her eyes. The gravity of 300 million dead hit her hard. Ten other delegates stood with her. The Durick Vetan dictator shook his head as he lit his candle. He was accompanied by three other delegates and four bodyguards, all of whom lit a candle as well. The Nazis who had destroyed Esternarx would pay for this. His bodyguards were all Esternarxian merceneries. He had promised them revenge, and they sure as Hell were going to get it. The Chironian Emperor stood with the Cardinal of Chirondom, three bishops, two priests, and two government ambassadors. "May God watch over their souls," the Emperor said. His candle lit. "May God watch over us all." |

The sun peeked over the horizon and almost completely in unison, all across the city people extinguished their candles and the only light was the light of the sun rising over the pacific. A sense of awe spread over the crowd as a massive flag of the new republic was raised out on a ship in the bay. The proud red phoenix in the left bar symbolized the new republic rising up from the flames of the old city of Esternarx. The southern cross in the right bar symbolized the southern hemisphere and the everlasting spirit of the land that once was New Zealand. The blue background in the middle bar represented the mighty ocean, upon which Esternarx sat like a king, ruling over it with their mighty ships. Finally, the torch in the middle of the flag represented the torch of liberty, the principle upon which Esternarx was founded and upon which they will prosper. It was a proud day for the people of Esternarx. They had spent the night weeping and remembering the fallen. And now it was time to show the world just how great Esternarx could be. |
