The Senate of Wadj announced that they had chosen Hassan Solaimani of Egyptian Wadj as the new Sultan of Wadj. Sultan Hassan, who is 62, has pledged to bring Egyptian Wadj and Persian Wadj closer together, and to fight all attempts to separate them. The new Sultan made this comment: "Whether we are Egyptian or Persian, whether we were once a part of United Elias, or Egyria, or whether we have been independent for our entire lives, we are now all Wadji, and we must all work in unison to preserve this mutually beneficial union of our lands." The Sultan also announced that his successor would be Mashad Dastghayb, who is 45. Dastghayb will be given the title of Crown Prince by the Senate, and will become the next Sultan of Wadj.

OOC: I fully support a player's right to choose whomever they darn well please to lead their nation. BUT if you choose to hold a poll to see who people would vote for, I think you should at least use that as a guideline. Mashad Dastghayb got more than twice as many votes than any other candidate - and in fact got more votes than the other 3 put together. While he wouldn't be my first choice (I'd much rather see Yousef Nassiri in power... but it'd be incrediably biased of me to vote for him) I'd say the poll was a total farce - now that you're currently pitted against the TC you've taken the anti-TC candidate, and no doubt once the problem in Israel is resolved Hassan will die and Dastghayb (who is the popular candidate by vote and seems to most closely match the traditional views of Wadj) will take power.

Now as I say, OOC I'm cool with this, whatever do what you want - all I'm trying to do is ask "why the hell did you hold the poll in the first place?" without sounding like a little kid bitching because the worst possible candidate (from the IC Nagian perspective) has been chosen.

IC Nag Ehgoeg will be bitching like a little cry baby

OOC: Such is the difficulty of using text to communicate. OOC I have no problem with this, it's the best thing possible as it means that it's likely I'll be doing some more RPing with Wadj, who's a great guy and always seems to be invovled in some of the most juicy storylines, where as independant Nag Ehgoeg is always feeling left behind. It was just idle curiousty wondering why hold an election if the result is going to be fixed?

For instance, Nag Ehgoeg has elections, but I decide that the same person wins every year because he's a hero to the Nagian people (and he controls the media, the largest Nagian business, the police and army). Because of that I hardly ever have an election poll, and when I do I accept it's results (mainly because I only have candidates that I'll enjoy playing - like the Black Pope).

Having an election where the candidates are more or less the same, then completely disregarding the results when the least hostile of the bunch is choosen just seems like a waste of time to me... in a friendly way.

OOC: Actually, I had every intention of choosing the one that people voted for, but I thought, IC, that it would make good sense for the Senate to choose a man who would protect Egyptian Wadj's border with TC. I also picked him, quite frankly, because he's Egyptian/Eliasian, and he therefore makes the Wadji presence in Egypt more acceptable internationally. This also makes sense IC. But I did pay attention to the poll, and that's why I made Dastghayb the heir to the throne.

"The Trilateral Commission condemns this new leader of Wadj. Following in the footsteps of his craven predecessor Ibrahim, Hassan Solaimani has completed the transformation of Wadj from the proud, principled, independent nation it once was, into yet another frothing, small-minded attack dog of Paradise. This is a man who has collaborated in the death and destruction of hundreds of millions of United Eliasians - his own countrymen no less - in the name of Wadji imperialism.

Hassan Solaimani enters the top ranks of history's opportunists, imperialists, and knaves. Solaimani is no more than a modern day Hitler, a power hungry foreigner who adopts a new country and promotes imperialistic schemes. We urge the Mid East to remain wary of this Sultan of Wadj."
