A 11-year old girl named Elizabeth, in Bloemfontein, South Africa has been arrested for charges of blasphemy and heresy. Her crime was uttering words she claimed St. Christopher revealed to her as prophetic visions of the future. She claims she was playing in a field one day when the patron saint of travelers, appeared as an apparition from the sky and spoke to her in Latin interspersed with Greek, even though she has never learned Latin or Greek before. The Inquisition is convinced that the girl is spewing lies and deceit, and she is currently in prison awaiting trial. Any mention of these "prophecies" is a crime punishable by death in South Africa. However, before her arrest, the girl's alleged prophecies were shared with her family and friends, and word quickly spread across the country. The prophecies of St. Christopher told to "Elizabeth" (translated from Latin and Greek): "Go forth in the name of our Lord, He is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Let these glorious words resound: we have already triumphed, for the Lord Christ has disclosed the gates of hell and opened us to the kingdom of heaven. Praise the Lord of Heaven and Earth. Remember and recite these words. Christ is learned in them and Christ is known in them. O Lord of Abraham and Lord of Isaac, let your praises ring throughout the world! Let us praise you in each breath and let us praise you in each heartbeat. Son of Pippin and son of the Hammer - you have made a man out of a child, made an empire out of tribes! Son of Carloman and son of Carloman - do you see that one way is lighted by the Lord and one is darkened by the devil? Father of a thousand troubles - the Queen of Heaven weeps for you. The Lord said 'among two or three gathered in my name, there am I.' But Charles, why is a false prophet among you? The conflagration spreads eastwards, and the Blood of Emmanuel is dishonored. The name of this Judas is Robert. O Lord of Daniel and Lord of Samson, deliver us from the evil, and deliver us to the bountiful kingdom, bound by your blood. Clouds and serpents obscure our sights, the Adversary is on the warpath. Terrible heeresy! Deceivers come from the East, the West, the South, the North. The weight of the world hinges on New Rome. ['Cardones Novae Romae oneram terram gerant'] Irene may suckle from Aaron's teat. What is the end of Aaron the Accursed? The hearts of men called for an usurper to Bring us Victory. ['Nikephorus'] O Lord of apostates and Lord of heretics - you are the master of all Creation. Let the enemy know your judgment." |

OOC Its intended to be like the NeoMacedonian prophecies, so it is all open to interpretation. I have semi-specific things in mind when I wrote them, but the interpretations can still be really flexible. And possibly all the prophecies turn out to be duds. :D |

*COUGH* UNC *COUGH* FOR BOTH *COUGH* However realistically I think it'll be Duke and Uconn in the championship for men's b-ball. Though I would like to see our home town team of UNCW beat Duke. |

OOC:  for Ohio State..... lost 70-52 against Georgetown IC: The girl responsible for all these prophecies has been given a secret trial, and has been declared a false prophet and witch. According to Canon Law she will be burned at the stake. The Holy Inquisition of South Africa submitted a top secret document to Genesis City detailing the investigation. South African Inquisitors believe that the prophecies are highly subversive, and that they encourage rebellion against the Catholic Church. Although the prophecies remain somewhat popular in the rural countryside of South Africa, the Inquisition has imposed a zero-tolerance policy for anyone caught discussing, distributing, or having anything to do with the prophecies. THousands of Inquisitional police are being deployed to catch offenders, and several dozen individuals have already been executed for discussing these prophecies. |

Private and Confidential To: Cardinal Afonso Suares de Albergaria, Regent of South Africa From: Pope Emmanuel III I see no reason why this prophecy must be suppressed. I immediately ask that the girl be allowed to live, should she not you will have committed murder. I also demand that the Inquisition officially stop the persecution of the people who believe in this prophecy, but make sure the prophecy is suppressed withut bloodshed until further notice. Finally, I ask that the girl in question be sent to have an audience with me in Genesis City. I will determine whether she is a true Catholic and then, I will determine whether this prophecy is heresy or not. |

Secret transmission To: Pope Emmanuel III From: THe South African Inquisition Your concerns and orders have been noted. The girl will be immediately spared of her execution. She will arrive in Genesis City, escorted by the highest military security. (OOC: Do you want to conduct an intervieew of the girl in this thread?) ****** In South Africa the Inquisition has revealed that the controversial prophetess has been spared at the last minute. The fact that direct intervention came from the Pope has been kept a secret, in order to avoid making it appear that the prophet has been vindicated. The South African Inquisition did publicly acknowledge the girl will be sent to Genesis City for an investigation by the Catholic European Inquisition. Meanwhile, the violent crackdown on the propehecies has been suspended. Although the prophecies are still strictly censored, people are only given warnings and occasional jail times, but executions and other extreme measures have ended. The Holy Inquisition has publicly stated that further official investigation must be conducted, in order to determine whether the purported prophecies are heretical or correct. |

OOC: Yeah, that's what I planned to do. I will ask a serious of questions and then you can post the reply, to which I will make my judgement as to whether or not the prophecies are heresy and whether or not the girl is a heretic. Is that okay? |

The little girl moved quietly and reverently through the grand hall in which she ahd found herself. She had been travelling for nearly 14 hours, but the Holy Father had summoned her and so she must travel an eternity should he command it. Her long veil nearly touched the floor and willowed in the slight breeze that went through the hall. She held the hand of an older South African nun as they walked closer and closer to a large group of people. In front of her was a Cardinal from South Africa, his hands twitching nervously as they approached the crowd and the seated Holy Father. "Your Holiness, the South African delegation with the girl, Elizabeth, is here for you to see." said a monk who introduced the South Africans. The Cardinal immediately went down on one knee, kissing the Pope's ring as was custom. The nuns then all did the same, kissing the ring. The little girl stood there in front of the Pope, however, not moving. The crowd around went quiet as she did not move forward to show her reverence for the Holy Father. The South African Cardinal became increasingly agitated at this defiance. "My South African Prince, do you not teach your people the respect that they must show to their Holy Father?" the Pope asked. "Erm...of course...of course we do Your Holiness." he replied stutteringly. He looked at the little girl and gave her a stern look. The little girl of 11 merely shrugged off this look but did move forward and went bended on one knee in front of the Holy Father. "Forgive me Your Holiness, but I am in shock that I may be so most fortunate to see Your Holiness in person, it is something that I have prayed for!" The tension eased within the crowd, the Pope laughed and the crowd followed suit. The Holy Father picked the little girl up and kissed her on both cheeks, before she went back to where she had previously stood. The Holy Father quickly skimmed through some papers which were handed to him and then began to question the little girl. "So...Elizabeth...that is your name yes?" "Yes Your Holiness, came her reply" "Wonderful, and you are 11 years old are you not?" "I am Your Holiness" "Good, good. Now, tell me what you think of these 'prophecies' that you claim St. Christopher revealed to you." .... "And tell me do you love the Holy Mother Church? Would you wish to do it harm?" .... "Tell me, would you die for the Blessed Virgin, our Holy Mother?" .... "And, do you love your Holy Father? Do you love me? Will you love my successor?" .... "Do you believe in the Saints? Do you believe in the Sacraments?" .... |

OOC: CE did you ever see that post I made in the NM news thread after the prophecies? NM has built a palace in honor of the Pope and his future line of successors. So should the Pope ever have business in Africa, the palace is there for his use. (Think of it as a vacation home of sorts  ) |

OOC: I'm going to tweak the order of the questions just slightly. IC: The Holy Father quickly skimmed through some papers which were handed to him and then began to question the little girl. "So...Elizabeth...that is your name yes?" "Yes Your Holiness, came her reply" "Wonderful, and you are 11 years old are you not?" "I am Your Holiness" The Pope smiled warmly and said, "Good, good. You are a most wonderful child, Elizabeth. Now, I will ask you some questions and I want you to answer with your deepest sincerity. Answer me with whatever is in your heart and your soul. Do you understand?" "Yes, Your Holiness." "Elizabeth, do you believe in the Saints? Do you believe in the Sacraments?" The girl replied, "Yes I do, Holy Father. I believe in the Sacraments and the Saints. I want nothing more than to be close to the Saints and to be loved by them." "Tell me, would you die for the Blessed Virgin, our Holy Mother?" Elizabeth said, "I will live for the Virgin Mary and I will die for the Virgin Mary." "And, do you love your Holy Father? Do you love me? Will you love my successor?" She said, "Yes. Every morning and every night I pray for you, Holy Father." "And tell me do you love the Holy Mother Church? Would you wish to do it harm?" Elizabeth replied, "I love the Church in each moment I am alive. I want to see the Church triumphant, Holy Father. I will put myself between our Church and those who wish it harm." The South African Cardinal, Adrian Arribe, was put at ease by Elizabeth's piety and maturity. He could see on the Pope's face that Emmanuel III was satisfied with the girl's answers. Finally the Pope said, "Now, tell me what you think of these 'prophecies' that you claim St. Christopher revealed to you." Elizabeth started speaking in perfect Latin. This however, did not shock or surprise anyone in the room; the South African Inquisition's briefing to the Pope stated that the girl would frequently start speaking in Latin and Greek, mostly cryptic comments with obscure scriptural or historical references. She claimed she does not know the meaning of the words she utters. However, South African Inquisitors identified that her father had been a professor of medieval literature at a Catholic university, who was fired from his job after repeatedly failing to show up for class. Perhaps Elizabeth's father coached her to say these things. But she also had been separated from her father since infancy, because her parents were estranged. In any case, there was no easy explanation for the girl's odd habits. "Holy Father, great mortal dangers threaten our Church. The prophecies are a warning from the Saints. The future is hardship and war. Evils assail the precious Body of Christ from all directions." Tears started to stream down her eyes but she continued. "Legions of devils and demons are marching from the wastelands.... the deserts, the forests,... Genesis City burns under the fires of heresy.... I... I don't know if the Church can... survive!" Cardinal Arribe's face was red with anger, and he thundered at the girl in Latin, "Quiet, heretic! You deserve to die for your blasphemy. The Church bears the Apostolic mission in its bosom and will see the word of our Lord through all time and against all adversaries! Have you lost faith that the Church is charged to save humanity forever? No matter what sins and depravity in the earth [peccati pravitatesque seculorum] the church will always be here, standing as the lamppost of our Lord, a searchlight among the wilderness. Do you believe that the vessel of Christ can fail???" By this time Elizabeth was sobbing and she replied in a screaming voice to the South African Cardinal,, "NO! You don't understand! Don't you see? How will we survive?? How can I make you see!! It is useless to argue light with the blind... Satan's forces are powerful, and the the Church is in mortal danger!! This is the message from the Holy Saints who see with perfect clarity. This is what the Traveller has told me. Seeing that the Church... the Church I love with all my existence and all my life... seeing that the Church will know this fate... I cannot describe the horror and the loneliness... the sadness that I feel, standing in a condemned world...." She was weeping and sobbing uncontrollably, and the entire room stood still, mortified by the outburst. |

"SILENCE! All of you!" the Pope screamed. The Cardinal immediately got down his knees and asked for pardon, the girl just stood there staring at the Holy Father. "Elizabeth, Satan will never be able to get us if we truly believe in Our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for our sins and released us from Satan's grip. We have no need to worry. Our faith, our Christian lives, our repentance for our sins will bring us into the grace of the Lord, his Divine Mercy, will protect us at the final judgement." OOC: TC, you can have the girl argue against this if you wish. |
