OOC:

Norightsia, your post had me cracking up.  With the other guy trying to rig the elections!  Absolutely hilarious.

Uh...Thanks?

You're welcome. That was a compliment. I enjoyed that post so much. I found it amusing that somebody else was trying to rig the elections in the other direction. There was no chance in hell that the election was going to go fairly.

Sweet! :wasclose:

We would also like to congratulate Doctor Camizu's victory in the Camizu elections. We do feel, however, that the election results should be scrutinized carefully in order to rule out any wrongdoing.

-President Reza Famika

Our Government concurs with its ally Very Pith Stanistan in the issue of the elections in Camizu. We send our congratulations to Dr. Camizu on his re-election but we believe it is of the utmost importance for the sake of respect for the rule of law and free and fair elections that the United Nations should continue to fully and thoroughly scrutinise any kind of wrongdoing in the Camizuan elections.
However, we can surely say that can be seen as a step in the right direction for Camizu, forward looking to become a genuine and true democracy.

Benjamin Soubies, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Great Denizistan

Josh Adams has ben part of the UN elections verification commission for years, but he has never seen anything like this. Each ballot box was brought to the UN observers by Dr. Camizu's own guard, already opened, all seals broken. Why bother, he had thought, but they went through the motions. Only about 20 to 30% of the ballots he examined were fully voted, the remaining 70 to 80%, all for the good doctor, simply were marked for the one election. The other minor elections and referendums were left unmarked. Josh knew what this meant, but he wasn't allowed to say anything.

He was packing in his hotel room, preparing for his trip back to New Harumf. He stopped and stared ahead, then picked up the phone, "Yes, front desk? Yes, I've changed my mind. I think I'll be staying a few days more. Yes. Yes, thank you."

Josh started unpacking, when there was a loud knock on his door........

Chapter 1: Forward
In which popular feeling turns against the Good Doctor.

“In the absence of justice, what is sovereignty but organized robbery?”
Saint Augustine, Bishop of Hippo Regius

Archibald Camizu listened to the report, a dismayed look on his face. Lieutenant Simmon continued to brief him on the riot, oblivious to the growing irritation on his face. Finally, when the officer had finished his report, Camizu asked him a question.

“Lieutenant, do you have any idea how this riot began?”

Simmon answered, “Well, as I was saying we can’t pinpoint it exactly, but we think it has something to do with the political leaders that we arrested. There were others in the crowd, and—“

Camizu finished, “And they stirred up the crowd. It should be expected I suppose. They couldn’t defeat me in an election, so they try to turn the crowd against me. So here’s another question for you. Why hasn’t this riot been taken care of?”

“Well, if you’ll excuse me sir, the commander didn’t want to fire on the civilians if we didn’t have to. He thought we could talk to them or something.”

“And how did that work out?”

“Not very well, sir.” Lieutenant Simmon could feel the Doctor’s gaze on him, threatening to burn right through him.

“Well, you certainly must do something. I’d hate to have my City damaged by the rioting. That would be highly irritating; especially considering the monument I was building to commemorate the election. If you wish to try and persuade them to leave, you are free to do so.”

“And if they refuse, sir?”

“Have them convey my greeting to my old friend, Prince Fritz of Saxe-Coburg.”

*****

The crowd passed through the streets on the way to the palace, trampling, looting, vandalizing, crying out for justice and freedom. When they came to Camizu square, the found themselves confronted with a line of soldiers. The pushed and screamed that they had to get to the palace, but the line refused to break. The officer in charge of the division looked contemptuously at them, as he ordered them to cease their march and return to their homes.

The reaction of the crowd was mixed. Some grew scared and started to disperse, while others grew angry. Finally, toward the front, one of the political reformists managed to quiet the crowd to hear the officer’s message.

“Doctor Camizu has given you all a task. You are now ambassadors. Your duty is to convey the Good Doctor’s regards to an old acquaintance, Prince Fritz of Saxe-Coburg.”

Prince Fritz had been dead for years, and the soon the gathered demonstrators would be too.

Camizu's regulars were marching against another group of rioters that ran toward the docks. There was a long flight of stairs down to the water, and the crowd was tripping over itself trying to get down, when the soldiers stopped at the top of the steps, aimed, and fired into the crowd.

One woman, near the top, had her infant in a stroller. When the rifles fired, she jerked her hands to her ears, letting go of the baby carraige. Down the steps it rolled, bouncing the child inside, past wounded and dying rioters, but no one would reach out to stop it. The mother watched from the top, screaming, "My baby." and reaching toward the alusive carraige. As it got near the bottom of the long steps, the soldiers opened fire once again, and the crowd panicked - the baby and the carraige disappeared.

Dioscosus could hear the shots from his cell in the Norightsian embassy. As fate would have it, the compound was just two blocks down from Camizu Square, at the closer end of Embassy Square. The soldiers immediately took to the walls of the compound in order to see the massacre. Of course none of them fired back, that would be far to dangerous. This sort of thing happened frequently anyways, and it was no cause to abandon the embassy for New Medea.

The Ambassador was in a metting with the Camizuan Police Chief when the fire erupted. The African joked about it, and didn't seemed concerned at all. In fact, he was totally unfazed and continued the meeting without the slightest curiosity. Afterwards, the Ambassador put what information he could glean fom the guards and the policeman into just another report to Velorya. However, the part about Dioscorsus and the failure to rig the elections was absent.

After the massacre in Camizu city, the situation degenerated further. Protests turned to riots in the larger cities, while smaller cities outright declared independence from the capital. In some cities, rebellions emerged after divisions defected to the rebels. Much of the country has decended into chaos, as Dr Camizu attempts to maintain control of the country.

Dr Camizu announced his baptism into the Roman Catholic Faith publically, and had his baptism broadcasted throughout Camizu. Furthermore, he has asked that missionaries and inquisitors be sent into the country to help convert the population. He believes that the faith will help quell the unrest in the country.

Although a somewhat dubious development, I cannot help but celebrate when more are converted. I praise God that the Camizuans now have the chance to recieve the light of Christ. That is all I can say at this time.

My dear doctor I apologize for not realizing the delicate situation you now face when I sent you a letter about the meeting. These events are truly unfortunate for you and your nation, especially in these troubling times. As you are most assuredly aware of, we do operate an oZ branch in the nation of Mwanza Jamhuri and any assistance it can be to you, you merely need to do little more than ask. Just as a precaution I have already put a jet on stand by should you need a speedy getaway from Africa. Always remember that the order is behind you and in return so is oZ.

It was night when Dioscorsus was hauled out of his cell by the two Q-CVII Operatives. He was showered, his teeth brushed, and a new set of clothes provided. The operatives offered no information, but Dioscorsus didn't need any. He complied without complaint, and then was taken outside and shoved into a darke green SUV.

The vehicle roared down the streets, and out towards the edge of town. Dioscorsus was on his back in the final row of seats. At one point one of the operatives turned back and briefed him. He knew better than to speak:

"We are going to the military airbase just outside of town. A couple of C-130s full of a century of legionaires are arriving soon. We will also be recieving a Lt. Varus Nilion. He needs a briefing on the Camizuan situation. We are not going to the Camizuan authorities because we don't want them to knoew we are interested. Overtly, we are here to keep the peace, but our covert op is to undermine the Camizuan government. With the peacekeeping troops as a front, we will attempt to incite the rebels with anything we can. You have a knowledge of the Camizuan government, and have a lot of contacts from your failed op. This is your chance to redeem yourself. Don't mess up. "

Dioscorsus nodded, and waited as the SUV approached the landing strip.

"A mighty fortress is our God......"

The hymn continued at the rally, filled with thousands of anti-catholic people waiting for the beginning of their march for Saberanism. With the News of Saber's Martyrdom, hundreds of thousands have taken to the streets in the capital to protest Camazu's conversion.

"Onward Christian soldiers...."

The march began, but as they turned the first corner nearing the palace, a bragade of armed infantry stood, rifles posed. They opened fire, and the first ranks of the march went down, while those behind them paniced, and ran in all directions. Shots after shots rang out, and it is feared that hundreds of protesters were gunned down

OOC:

A couple weeks have passed since this story was last updated, and I do not think that I have the time to carry out the ambitious plans that I had for this tale when it started. Would anybody be overly disappointed if I simply outlined the basic events that follow, and the end of the Camizuan state?
