Dream's End: A Tale of the Land of Camizu Members of African Continent, and other members of our NationStates community, I would like to welcome you to a very special story. This is, as the title indicates, a story of the land of Camizu. This story is for all those who have enjoyed the land of Camizu and its characters in the past. Whether you loved Dr Archibald Camizu or hated him, if Camizu ever mattered to you, then this story is for you. This story will have a strong significance in Camizu, certainly in Africa, and perhaps, if we play our cards properly, in all the world. This story will be told in a very specific way. I have organized it into a series of chapters. Each chapter has a basic set of events, which I will post from time to time, but any players who like can interact with the events as you would normally. I will begin each chapter, and make a few major structural posts in each chapter, but you will control how the chapter flows. Before I post the first part of the story, I would like to see who is interested in participating. Even if you don't sign up now, feel free to post later. I just want to get a rough sense of how much activity will be here before we start. After I get some volunteers, and when I have the time, I will post the Prologue of the story. I hope you all enjoy this story as much as I will. This will be a memorable story of the land of Camizu. |

OOC: I'm glad to see how much enthusiasm there is for this. Well, I have the first instalment of the prologue, to ease us all into the story. IC: Prologue: Whither? In which are determined the results of the Camizuan election. “Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.” -Thomas Paine Marcus Garoon paced back and forth in the conference room, anxiously awaiting the results of the official tabulations. The television blared on about poll results and patriotism in the background, but Marcus didn’t care. The television networks were still mostly state dominated. The results, however, would be checked and announced by a United Nations official. That was the only thing he had the television for. Tammy looked over at him from where she was sitting. Sympathetically, she tried to calm him, “Marcus, there’s nothing to worry about. We’re leading in every poll done by outside observers, and the Liberal Democrats are following us. If we form a coalition with them, we’ve got the government.” Marcus paused and looked around the room at the other faces. They echoed Tammy, trying to assure him of their outlook. It was true. The Social Reform Party and the Liberal Democratic Party together had more than seventy percent of the votes according to polls administered by outside agencies, but the Camizuan polls were antoher matter… “Tammy, we have good polls, but the Doctor does too! According to his polls, he’s got eighty-five percent of the votes, and he claims his share is increasing. Sure we can’t trust his polls, but does that mean we can trust ours?” Standing behind him, Gavon put a hand on his shoulder to calm him. “Marcus,” he began, “Even Archibald Camizu can’t deceive the entire United Nations. Every thing coming out of the city is going to be scrutinized. You can be sure that the UN will review every tally if Camizu wins, or gets even a substantial share of the vote. Relax.” Marcus was about to reply, when something on the television caught his attention. It was time. “The preliminary totals have come in from ninety percent of the voting districts,” the state network announcer proclaimed. Tammy quickly looked around the room, urging everybody to quiet down to hear the results. The announcer continued, “—and despite some increased support for the agitators in some of the cities, it seem that the true patriots have come out in force for the election.” After the commentary blathered on for a little while longer, the United Nations representative came out to announce the official results. Marcus heard Gavon mutter a short prayer before the proclamation. “It seems,” began the UN official, “that Doctor Archibald Camizu, and his Camizu First party have won seventy-nine percent of the votes. I realize some of you will be suspicious, and I was at first too. We’ve reviewed the results and will do so again. We had observers at ever polling location. However, the results appear legitimate. I must offer my tentative congratulations to the Doctor.” The UN man looked drained as the cameras shifted away from him. So did some of the others in the room. Marcus said nothing. He turned his eyes to each person in the room in turn: Tammy, Gavon, Jeremy, and the rest. Not one met his gaze. |

The government of Al Araam has long watched Dr. Archibald Camizu's regime with a skeptical eye. If these election results are in fact valid, they will lend a shred of credibility to Dr. Camizu's otherwise bleak record with our government. If it is revealed that they have been tampered with, however, it will be the Doctor's undoing. -Mohommed Abdel Foreign Minister Al Araam |

Dioscorsus Pameratus cursed the TV in his dingy apartment just down the street from the Norightsian embassy. He had been sent by the Q-CVII to rig the elections in favor of candidate Marcus Garoon. He had, however, apparently failed. No doubt the government would be displeased at his lack of aptitude. He knew what he had to do. He climbed into his beat up CC Osprey sedan and drove for a while to avoid connection with the embassy. He then drove up to the embassy, and was promptly let inside by the legionairres. Inside the complex, he was confronted by a trio of men in dark green suits. Q-CVII operatives, attaches of the ambassador. They of course wanted to know why Garoon had so dismally lost the election. Dioscosus's only answer was that Camizu had out-rigged him. Regardless, he was dragged to a secret holding cell while the government tried to sort out his mistake. Statement of the Norightsian Government We applaud the democratic process in Camizu. We only question its validity. Although Dr. Camizu would obviously, given his character and philanthropy, never rig the elections, we dare say an overzealous follower might have. We suggest the good doctor look into it. |

OOC: Norightsia, your post had me cracking up. With the other guy trying to rig the elections! Absolutely hilarious. IC: The Doctor's stern face looked comfortable on the televison, as if he was used to having cameras on him. He seemed relaxed an pleased as he prepared to address the people of Camizu and the nations of the world. No tension or fear marred his face. "Today is a great day," he began proudly, "but not just for me. No, today is a great day for all the people of Camizu. For today we have finished checking all the vote tallies and offiically confirmed my victory. I want to congratulate all the people of my nation on this historic accomplishment. The first election in Camizuan history has been completed without any problems. The voter turnout was remarkably high, around seventy-five percent. That is higher than in many established democracies. Today is indeed a great day. "Now I must thank all of you who voted for me. It honors me greatly to know that the people of this great land have appreciated my service to the nation, and have seen fit to have me continue in that service. Truely there is nothing greater than to serve one's people. Now I must also thank all the nations who have offered us congratulations on this historic occasion. It is wonderful to know that the world, as well as the nation, supports me so strongly! And I assure you, I, along with the United Nations officials in the country have done everything to make sure that the elections were as fair as possible. "I would also like to thank the United Nations, for making this possible. Now that the elections are done, however, the UN officials are no longer needed. I have taken the liberty of sending them home earlier today. That is, with a few exceptions. Several have elected to remain and work for me. And regretably, a few of the officials were arrested on drug-related charges during their stay in Camizu. It is sad, but any large organization will have some bad members. Let us not ruin our joy because of them. "Finally, I would like to say some words to my challengers. I thank you for your participation in this process and for being gracious competitors. I hope that in the future, we can all work together for the benefit of this fine nation of Camizu. Once again, thank you all. This is truely a great day." Once Doctor Camizu was back in his office, he called his assistant to him. After waiting five or six minutes, the man walked into the room and stood at attention. Archibald turned to the man from the book he had opened and addressed him: "Go to Intelligence and tell them to prepare lists of all members of opposition parties and their major supporters. Also find any United Nations officials who are lingering unduly or foreigners acting suspiciously. Have them assemble any relevant data and deliver it to the commander of the Old Bohemian Regiment. That is all." Doctor Camizu turned back to his book, satisfaction on his face. |

You're welcome. That was a compliment. I enjoyed that post so much. I found it amusing that somebody else was trying to rig the elections in the other direction. There was no chance in hell that the election was going to go fairly. |
