Well, what if Sakha was baptized first...

There are a number of conditions first before the Pope would accept it:

1) He has to renounce the fact that he is God on earth.
2) He has to be baptized in the Catholic Faith.
3) He has to fully and publicly acknowledge his submission to the Pope on spiritual issues (and preferably temporal issues).

Plus, as an added bonus to please the Pope:

4) Join the Holy League.
5) Convert his nation to Catholicism.
6) Submit to the will of the Pope temporally.

Sakha is prepared to:

1) Publically admit that he is not YHWH
2) Be baptized into the Roman Catholic Church
3) Recognize the Pope as the sole head and spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church
4) Join the Holy League
5) Urge his citizens to accept baptism in the Roman Catholic Church

OOC: Well, then consider him accepted in to the Church.

Can I also ask why you are doing this?

Wait and see. I'll probably RP some of this later, so it won't be official until then.

OOC: Yeah, godparents. Hmmm.... You see, I wanted the Pope but if hes not showing up, no way. Although I don't get why he won't show up, not even those crazy Muslims refuse to show just because an "infidel" is there. Of course if the Pope doesn't come, GQ would be outraged too.

Well, you invite heretics and that to sit in the Pope's presence. If you look at the Reformation period, Popes refused to attend ecumenical councils with Protestant leaders.

OOC: The Pope should attend, though. Maybe this isn't the spirit of your version of Catholism, but possibly converting world leaders to your cause would be a very big deal.

I leave that up to my Cardinals. GQ has pissed the Pope off before for allowing heretics and infidels to functions etc.

There are some issues that Sakha needs worked out:

1) Sakhan clergy must be at least predominantly native Sakhans. The reason is that Greater Sakha is an intensely xenophobic country, and the people tend to scorn foreigners. So it is unlikely that they will respect the clergy or take the Church seriously unless the church officials are Sakhans.

2) In Sakhan culture, lifelong bachelors are generally treated with contempt. It would probably be beneficial to ordain some married men in GS, to show the people that the priests are worthy of respect.

You could remedy that by having services moderated by married men, who help the priests when in church. Or you could just not tell people that preists aren't married...

CE:

The story we discussed here is more involved then I have time for. Sorry, but I don't think we'll do it now. Maybe another time, but for now Sakha will remain infidel and blasphemer.

That's fine by me. Just understand that the Pope will still not be accepting of the God-King being a godfather.

Fine then. Will the Raja act as Godfather?

You mean James Brooke II? He'd be happy to, but be warned that he's an Epicopalian. I don't know if that would go over too well with the Pope.

I know he's Epicopalian. I am wondering what the Pope would do. The Raja is one of the Emperor's closest friends.

Well, the Pope is disgusted that an Emperor who calls himself a Catholic has friends who are heretics. If the two were citizens in Catholic Europe then most of the Emperor's 'friends' would be burned at the stake. The Emperor would have no friends left.

But, if needs be, a heretic is better than someone who claims they are God.

I just realized that leaders of all the world's nations were invited, not just Asia. Since I haven't gotten rid of any my nations as I'd planned to, I will tentatively RSVP on behalf of all them. God-king Sakha will certainly attend. The Emperor of the Resplendent Dawn will attend if the negotiations at Baghdad proceed smoothly and finish in time. The King of Gallia will come unless there is something preventing him from doing so. Dr Camizu will attend if his country is stable (watch Dream's End for details). Finally, the leader of the ruling monatic order of the Twilight Citadel will also attend, as will some of the monks. (BTW, what is the title of the leader of a monatstic order, like the Franciscans or the Benedictines, etc.?)

Abbot.

And I guess the Pope could at least lie and say his sick or something. Or politely decline. The Pope and GQ don't get along becaus GQ chafes under authority I guess lol  . But its not like GQ himself is saying he's God, or is a heretic. The same sense of loyalty that binds him to the church binds him to his friends.
