The South African people woke up to the shocking and somber news that their monarch, Cardinal Emperor John I, has died today of a massive stroke. The founder of the modern Catholic South African Empire, will be honored by his supporters for his uncompromising religious devotion and his work to unite all races and indeed all of humanity under the Catholic Church. His detractors will point out his absolute religious intolerance and his willingness to spread war and imperialism in this world to achieve his goals. His work to bring hundreds of millions of South Africans out of poverty and to restore South Africa as an internationally-respected country will be contrasted with the brutal genocides he ordered against non-Catholics, claiming at least 2 million lives of Protestants, Mulsims, Hindus, Jews, and pagans in the nation. John I was aged 72, having reigned 23 years. His secret will document has been revealed, and his successor shall be another clergyman: the Archbishop of Durban, Cardinal Maurits Snouck-Hurgronje, who will take the title Cardinal Emperor Maurice I. It is not expected that Cardinal Emperor Maurice will deviate from the national policies and goals set by his predecssor. An official month of mourning has been designated, and a funeral is planned in the streets of Adowa for the people to see their passed leader. |

I am truly sadden to hear of the passing of Cardinal Emperor John I. He was a brilliant and dedicated man to the true faith and Catholics everywhere will truly miss him. I will pray that his soul reaches the heavenly kingdom and that his successor will be able to carry on his legacy and keep South Africa a true bastion of Catholicism. Hopefully the devoted nation of this nigh irreplaceable man will find a worthy ruler in Cardinal Emperor Maurice. As for John, Norightsia prays for his soul. Our flags fly half-mast, and the Emperor will attend personally the funeral, if at all possible. |

Cardinal Emperor Maurice and the South African nation are grateful for all the nations' show of support. A 5-hour funeral was conducted at the Basilica of St. Mark in Adowa, with foreign dignitaries and millions of curious onlookers present. Pope Urban XII conducted the funerary mass, after which the deceased emperor's casket was pulled through the streets of the city to recieve the adulation of ordinary people lining up in witness.
