Air Traffic Disrupted by Taftan Eruption Air traffic throughout the nation was disrupted by a large ash plume coming from Mount Taftan today. Located approximately one hundred miles north-northeast of Iranshahr, Taftan is the most active volcano in the region and has been showing high levels of seismic activity in the past few weeks. Many flights were delayed as they were diverted around the twenty thousand foot plume. Though a minor eruption, the area around the volcano has been evacuated while scientists study the volcanic event. 82 Dead After Airline Crashes into Gulf Eighty two people have been found dead this morning after Persia Air flight 281 crashed into the Gulf of Oman late last night. The plane, which was bound for Cairo, reported engine trouble only thirty minutes after leaving Iranshahr. The plane's black box has not been found yet. Aiding in the search are the navy's destroyers PNS Kabul and PNS Logar. More news will be reported as it becomes available. |

Death Toll up to 104 More bodies were found in the water today following the crash of Persia Air flight 281 yesterday. Salvage workers have since arrived on site and are working on recovering as much of the plane as possible so that an investigation of the event can be conducted. The black box has still not been found. Taftan Continues to Erupt Mount Taftan erupted again this afternoon. Though much smaller than yesterday's eruption, the ash plume again caused chaos for air traffic. Sistan-UN Relations Deteriorate In the weeks since the unintentional Christmas bombing of Assab by Sistani aircraft, relations between the Principality and the UN have steadily grown worse, with some talk of a UN invasion of Sistan circulating. Though the government has admitted that the planes were Sistani, they claim that the attack was an unintentional result of bad weather. They claim that while the attack was a mistake, the real blame for the damage falls on the CNNP government. The Prince stated this morning that had the CNNP government not allowed the fire caused by the incindiary bombs to spread unopposed, the damage would have been isolated and rather minor. To illustrate his point, he pointed out the death tolls resulting from the Allied firebombings of Dresden and Tokyo during world war two, and the death tolls of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki*. The Prince went further, proclaiming that the damage following the attack on Assab was intentionally allowed to spread out of control by the CNNP in order to turn the international community against Sistan and weaken the defense of the developing nation of Asherton. *25,000 were killed in Dresden, 100,000 in Tokyo, 80,000 in Hiroshima, and 70,000 in Nagasaki. Another attack with a death toll close to that of Assab's is the firebombing raid on Kobe, Japan which killed around 8,800 people, or a bit more than half of the deathtoll in Assab. The Kobe and Tokyo attacks were each carried out by some 330 B-17s, and the Dresden attack was carried out by almost 800 Lancaster bombers. When you consider that the Assab attack was carried out by only 24 small prop driven fighters and 36 slightly larger prop driven bombers, the damage is clearly very out of proportion. |

Vice Presidente Silvio Berlusconi: We will maintain that the bottom line is that it was Sistani negligence in this matter that caused the unnecessary suffering of thousands of people. Say what they want, the use of incendiaries against churches that were crammed pack for Sunday morning, Christmas morning services will cause substantial loss of human life...napalm is not a surgical airstrike weapon, it is intended to kill indescriminately large numbers of people. While there is some evidence of mishandling of the fire, the facts remain Sistani negligence in the first degree... They never did apologize and give us the slightest international courtesey (Probably misspelled it). Further fueling our belief that the attack was intentional and, claimed accidental, done without remorse for their actions. Our nation will not tolerate it. We do mourn the loss of those people of Flight 281, and pray for their families... |

Death Toll Rises to 173 as Fuselage Raised The rear half of Persia Air flight 281 was recovered by salvage workers today. As it was pulled from the sea, damage to the wings and engines of the Boeing 727 made it clear what happened. Impact damage to engine and flight surfaces, along with data from the black box that was found today, indicates a series of catastrophic bird strikes. Memorial services will be held on Pier 32 in Chabahar this Saturday. Taftan Quiet For First Time in Days Today, Mount Taftan showed little activity, with the only registered earthquake, a 3.2 on the Richter Scale, happening at 3:24am last night. Military on High Alert More rumors of war from a number of rogue Catholic and UN nations has lead Sistani military leaders to prepare for the worst. Reserve units throughout the nation have been activated, anti-submarine nets have been placed in Chabahar bay, and anti-aircraft equipment has been set up and manned throughout the nation. The Prince maintains that the Holy League and United Nations have no authority over Sistan, and he will not sumbit to bullying tactics. Sistan Enters Nuclear Club With help from Scythiran scientists, Sistan detonated it's first domestically produced atomic weapon today in the Indian Ocean. Another test is schedueled for tomorrow. Provided the second test is successful, it is expected that the military will order full scale production of nuclear weapons to aid in the defense of the nation. Bahu Kalat, Ren-Faire to Begin Saturday Medieval re-enactors from across Europe, North America, and the Middle East are expected to vist Bahu Kalat this weekend for the anual Sistan Renaissance Fair that runs for six weeks begining this Saturday. Among the planned events is a re-enacting of the 1187 Battle of Hattin. |

OOC: Yeah, well he had Scythirus's help. Still, you may not want to join the nuke club. You're a free target now. If anyone wanted to attack you, you're going to be pretty much alone. |

If I couldn't travel through Sythirus without him confirming a pre-approvement, you can't have nukes from Scythirus without demonstrating and agreement, and he ain't here, so no nukes. I will not take your word that he said "OK". You are NOT a nuclear power. Period. |

Taftan Activity Subsides Geologists at Khash University are reporting that seismic activity around Mt. Taftan has died down significantly in the past few days. Should the lack of activity continue, it is expected that the government will allow people living on and around the mountain to return to their homes by Friday. Nuclear Test Successful The government has reported that it's second atomic weapons test was successful and domestic nuclear weapons production is slated to begin immedietly. Expect aerospace, chemical, and mining stocks to gain a few points by the time the market closes today. Ren-Faire Opens With Violence Violence erupted at the Bahu Kalat Fairgrounds today after people playing Islamic soldiers got into a fight with visiting Europeans who were to be playing crusaders over historical accuracy. After a breif brawl, six men were sent to the hospital with sword wounds and twenty two went to the county jail to cool off. The faire is expected to continue normally. |
