OOC: I understand this is early, but I may not be able to log in on the 12th due to school work I have to work on due this week. Also, I have no knowledge of courts presceding aside from the very VERY basics, so if I do something which isn't done in real courts, please bare with me and PLEASE correct me.

IC:

File from the prosecutor
Title: Accusations against Marcus Hadrianus and the evidences.

Marcus Hadrianus has committed:
1) One account of treason
2) One account of unlawful seizer of the head of state
3) One account of impersonating a head of State
4) One account of persecution of a religious group

Evidence:
1) Took control of the nation and with held the rights and privileges of it's rightful ruler, one Queen Chloe Augustus
2) Without the permission of the Imperial Senate, self-proclaimed himself "King" of Neo-Macedonia
3) Wrote letters and made government decision through written documents signing them under the name of the former King Alexander Augustus
4) Close Catholic churches and other Catholic related organizations in an attempt to suppress the general public.

OOC: I'd split this topic for the trial part but I don't have jurisdiction here...

IC:

The Egyrian lawyer* appointed for the defense of Marcus Hadrianus is Farouk Akbar.
-Press release

Confidential Defence Files

Summary: The defense will attempt to establish reasonable doubt that Marcus Hadrianus was acting in bad faith. It will be argued that Marcus Hadrianus was simply acting for what he considered to be the best interests of his nation. The defense will also argue that Catholic influence is unfairly biasing opinion against Marcus Hadrianus.

Evidence: Use of the precedent set in Egyria after Egyrian Civil War. Critical analysis of Catholic opinionation. Step-by-step discourse with Marcus Hadrianus on the nature of the actions he took during his time as head of state.

OOC:

*I'm going to assume there will be more than one lawyer for both the prosecution and the defense.

Typically, a trial begins with the opening arguments by the prosecution, then the defense. An opening argument is a long speech talking about the prosecution/defense's goals and mild criticizing of the opposite party.

Next we have the prosecution present its case. This includes "exhibits" and questioning of witnesses. Once the prosecution rests its case, the defense goes.

Finally, there is cross-examination, whereby the prosecution has one last chance to interrogate the witnesses. Once they have no further questions, the defense goes, and then the jurors convene.

There will be two "master" lawyers backed with a reasonable number of jurists. It would be nice if you (i.e. NRE and Egyria) could choose other members of the forum to play the said jurists. I'd like to know who's on your "team" if you decide to follow my suggestion.

I think we just did that :)

Yes. We'll proceed to the prosecution now. It will take as long as it takes.

OOC: No, we haven't done opening statements yet. These are just files that have been submitted to the judge independently. The "trial" part of the trial hasn't even started yet.

Prosecution, you're up :)

The court room was relatively hot, and Arrecina Tertulla began to fan herself as the Paradisian judges brought the court room to order and asked for opening statements. The Prosecution was up first and so Arrecina Tertulla stood...

Ladies and gentlemen of the paradisian Supreme Council of Justice I am here today to prove that without a doubt Marcus Hadrianus is guilty of not only treason but other offense which in our home country would mean the death penalty. I assure the Supreme Council of Justice that I will prove this fact using concrete evidence as well as truthful testimony from individuals who survived the terror which was Mr. Hadrianus's term as unlawful leader of Neo-Macedonia. I am also assured that the defense will undoubtedly try to cloud your judgment with notions that Mr. Hadrianus's was acting in the best interest of Neo-Macedonia, however if that's so then Mr. Hadrianus would have allowed the rightful heir, Queen Chloe to the thrown and we wouldn't be having this trial. Thank you

OOC: How'd I do? Like I said before I'm new at all this however, hopefully I can improve through this. At the moment my brain is exhausted so that's about all I got. However, I assure you I'll have a lot of evidence to convict Hadrianus

OOC: If you do use jurists, I'd be open for either side. Amazonia would be for the Defense, while Norightsia would be for the prosecution. If you need me let me know.

OOC: This has been about as coherent as Sadam Heusen's trial has been so far. Just a casual observation from someone expecting fireworks!!

Well, it hasn't really started yet. The Defense needs to have an opening statement. Be patient! :P
