With the supply of fuel and ammunition, the Coastal Blitzkrieg was about to get underway. A single highway ran the length of the coast, but at last survelliance, the Western Alliance had retreated to Berbera, a major city between the UNF's capital and the Western Alliance's capital of Djibouti. The tanks, now able to move after their long slumber, rumbled to life as the fuel reached their engines. Shells were loaded, artillery was put onto trailers, and infantry were loaded into APCs... the Blitzkrieg had begun. -------------------------------- Ibrahim stood over all the wreckage of the burned out vehicles of the Southeastern Front. His forces, like the attack the previous day, had gone off with few casualties due to the enemy commander's incompetance. Aidid approached Ibrahim with his hands above his head. "I surrender to you, friend! Please, do not harm me or my men!" "Its not me you should be begging for mercy from," Ibrahim said with an AK-47 pointed at the warlord and his broken army. "Get moving and maybe you'll live to see the Imam. Move!" |

Christmas morning. Not a time most people would want to be going to war, but for the Muslim Sistani populous, it was just another Sunday. Clouds had rolled into the area the previous night, and try as they might to give Asherton a white Christmas, all the clouds could do is drizzle rain onto the land below. Many roads quickly turned into quagmires as convoys of vehicles and platoons of infantry churned the water into the dirt. It did not seem to be a very good day to be out at all. However, this wasn't an issue for Sistan's fighters and bombers. One by one, the prop-driven aircraft screamed down their runways, taking to the skies in groups of four. The most important part of a blitzkrieg was air support, and the pilots of the bomb and rocket laden planes were going to do everything in their power to support the ground forces and ensure the success of the blitzkrieg. -Karin, North coast of Asherton, 200 miles WSW of Boosaaso- For the 42nd fighter wing's Mobius Squadron, this mission was going to be simple. Today, they would be working with the 12th bomber wing's "Camel Busters" to shatter any Western Alliance resistance. To the north, flashes could be seen through the rain and mist as cruiser squadrons one and two softened up a Western Alliance position with merciless bombardment. Below, the pilots could see the town of Karin, where retreating WA forces were making a stand against UNF and Sistani forces. That was when they saw their target. It was an artillery base. Though well defended from the ground, the armor and machinegun nests that defended the steep hill from ground forces would be useless against aircraft. The pilots of the two squadrons exchanged short radio messages and hand signals before moving in to attack. One by one the planes rolled over and entered a steep dive. As their speed climbed, the planes fell, accelerating to several hundred knots before dropping bombs and pulling up. As the first tank was gutted by an A1K2 dropped 250lb bomb, soldiers and machinegunners did their best to fill the sky with enough lead to drop their attackers. The two squadrons climbed furiously to gain altitude in preparation for another attack. Two of the fighters had to turn for home, however, as stray rounds had entered their engine housings and severed oil lines; a fact made painfuly clear by the black streak that trailed down the fuselage. -Aseb, CNNP, 300 miles West of Boosaaso- At Aseb were two other fighter squadrons from the 42nd, and three bomber squadrons from the 12th. They were supposed to attack Djibouti in preparation for a future invasion, but the bad weather had caused them to drift about a hundred miles off course. When they saw the city below, they naturally assumed it to be their target. Unlike the group at Karin, the squadrons at Aseb were coming in level and low. For the next ten minutes, the five squadrons bombed and strafed the city, covering several city blocks with napalm. Targets of particular focus, and the first hit, were the churches that mocked the Muslim pilots with their spires, capped with large lowercase t's. It was Christmas morning, Sunday no less, and the buildings were packed. People ran screaming out of the wooden buildings to safety. Safety only until the napalm was dropped. Just as suddenly as the attack began, the inadverdant attack on Aseb ended, the pilots gone Winchester and heading home. |

CNN Special: Host Amy Kournikova- Today, it has been recently confirmed that at 11:00 this morning while at the Christmas Mass in the Basilica d'Addis Ababa, Presidente Augusto Pinochet was hastily carried away by the Cheka to an undisclosed underground location in the Amhara Plateau. It came as reports and fears of another "terrorist" attack might befall the capital city and the president ordered the public announcement systems and sirens to go off and warn people across the country about the potential danger of an attack. It was confirmed by the Federales that the attack on Assab (Aseb) was not the result of terrorists but by Sistani aircraft. Local authorities had the local populace to believe that UNF terrorists were to blame but eyewitness accounts of the attack and official state intelligence have confirmed that the attack was by the Sistani Airforce. As of press time, it has been undetermined as to whether or not the Sistani government ordered the attack or not. Vice-Presidente Silvio Berlusconi (and acting "Provost" Premeir of The CNNP) has reported earlier today that it is still confidential as to whether the attack was accidental or deliberate on the part of the Sistani government. We have been told that President Augusto Pinochet has been in his office in the Presmodium tying up the phone line with the Sistani government trying to ascertain the all the details of the flight squadron in question. Diplomats from Sistan have been calling and answering questions frantically as well, trying to give a legitamate explanation for the attack. More importantly is the scene here in Assab, it was mostly churches that bore the brunt of the assault; although a few shops and stores suffered mild burn damage as fire fighters were able to gain control of the situation before it escalated into a city wide fire. Damage estimates run from 365 million denars to 769 million denars, but the most horrific of all the figures is the death and wounded toll...about 15,000 are estimated by local authorities to be died while the number being admitted to local hospitals has been about 20,000 and both numbers are expected to grow as the hours pass by. Rescue workers say the next 2 days are the most crucial in determining the survival odds of someone who was wounded seriously in the attack, that after 2 days, the person is expected to have sucumbed to their injuries. This has been a Christmas many will not soon forget. This is Amy Kournikova reporting live in Assab. As people are lifted from the wreckage and the smoke and fire die off, the omnimous hum of tank engines and army trucks drive past. The air shreiks with the sound of S37's flying overhead, causing a massive red banner tied to a post on top of a building to flap wildly in the air towards the sea...depicting a gold emblem in the top corner...the hammer and sickle. OOC Sorry for the late reply. I have consulted the maps and Djibouti city belogns to Asherton. IC "South Africa strongly condemns Sistan's act of war against oru Catholic brothers the CNNP. The South African govnerment demands an official apology and payment of indemnities from Sistan to CNNP. Sistan's savage attack is an attack and provocation against Christians everywhere." -The Imperial Court |

"Allah guided the hands of the pilots of that bomber group," the Imam said after morning prayers with his lieutenants still in the Capital. "I pray for more attacks against the infidels, of course I would prefer it if they were more intentional." "Its a good thing the news services of the Catholics aren't here or we'd be in real deep," Lieutenant Aziz, commander of the First Corp said to the Imam. "My forces are currently surrounding Berbera and artillery is beginning to take positions. With your permission, wise Imam, I would like to issue an ultimatum to the city. If they don't surrender to my forces immediately, I am going to flatten them and let Allah sort them out." "Make it so, Lieutenant," the Imam replied. "Pretty soon, you will be one of many who will conquer the Western Alliance stronghold of Djibouti." "Thank you, Imam. May Allah smile upon us all." The Lieutenant left, bound for the Berbera front. "Oh, while you're out there, radio Ibrahim and tell him to hurry up and move to the east. I want all of the southern approaches to Djibouti seized before we approach from the coast." "Yes, Imam." ------------------------------------------------------ "Citizens and soldiers of Berbera! We, the forces of UNF, have completely surrounded your city and have many artillery pieces zeroed in on the forces and buildings of your city," a strong, unwaivering voice called out over AM/FM/Shortwave radio into the city of Berbera. "If you are truly followers of Allah, you will join us in the fight against the godless democratic forces in control of your city and surrender. If you surrender, by our Imam's word, we will spare your lives. If you resist, we will level the city and permit no one to leave alive. You have 24 hours to comply or unless you open fire on our forces. Have a nice day." |

As noon approached on the second day, tanks continued to move into position around Berbera. Posted Image The clock inside the Lieutenant's command vehicle clicked to T+00:00... Berbera had not sent a reply, but radio traffic was active on the bandwidth they had used. They had received the message, but gave no reply, effectively telling the UNF to bring it on. "Commence artillery barrage! Spare no one!" The Lieutenant called out over his radio. The 105mm artillery pieces sprung to life as propeller planes could be heard approaching. Buildings began to crumble under the weight of the artillery barrage with surprisingly little counter-battery fire. "We have them by the balls, we will probably have their surrender by daybreak tomorrow," Aziz noted. "Continue the bombardment and notify me if the situation changes." |

As the sun glared down at Berbera and shells arced into the city, several squadrons of Okikazes and Tigers crested the hills to the south like a swarm of locusts. Each of the fighters and bombers was loaded with 250lb bombs and rockets. With the precision of someone covering their eyes and throwing a dart at a map, the planes bombed any random target they could hit, taking special care to avoid damaging the mosques. Their wing commanders had recieved orders directly from the Imam, and they did not intend to risk his fury by destroying the muslim temples. Off shore, the cruisers Taftan, Atashkuh, Alamkuh, Haft Khan, and Alanehsar added their part of the support, tossing 12", 8", and 6" shells into the doomed city. Around them, a number of destroyers kept a close watch for any hostiles, be they in the air or sea. On the ground around Berbera, Sistani troops and armor waited to be sent into the soon to be shattered town. |

Aziz watched the action from a hilltop to the east of town, watching the buildings crumble under the heavy fire provided to his forces from the Sistani Navy. "Lieutenant, we have an urgent radio communication coming from Berbera. They are wishing to negotiate their surrender," the radio operator of his command vehicle called out to him. Aziz walked up to the command vehicle and took the mouthpiece. "This is Lieutenant Aziz of UNF Northern Army, to whom am I speaking?" Aziz called over the radio. "This is General Abbas of the Western Alliance First Corps," a voice called out on the other end. There was a long silence as a Sistani 12" shell landed somewhere close, giving Aziz a clue to where the General was. "We wish to negotiate our surrender." "There is no negotiation," Aziz replied. "You will either surrender to us unconditionally or you will tell Allah himself of our victory over your forces before you go to Hell. Discuss it with your lieutenants while I continue to oversee your destruction." Frantic yelling could be heard over the other end, the general no doubt having placed his hand on the "transmit" button. "Alright! Alright! Stop shelling us, for the love of Allah! We surrender! Please, just don't hurt us," General Abbas said over the radio. "The Imam will appreciate your willingness to surrender. Just make sure all your men are disarmed when we arrive and no one will be hurt. Fuck this up and I will personally see that you and your officers are slaughtered like animals, do you understand?" Aziz asked, deadly serious when it came to killing the officers if anyone resisted. "You have my word that no one will fire on your forces," Abbas replied. "Good, we will arrive in an hour. All forces, hold your fire!" ====================== Tens of thousands of men were marched from Berbera back towards the UNF capital for processing in the rear area of the Northern Army's offensive. Aziz, in his command vehicle, rolled up to a group of injuried officers, dirty from dust that was shook loose in their command bunker by the Sistani bombardment. "Which one of you is General Abbas?" "I am General Abbas," a middle-aged man, dressed in an old military uniform, said as he stood up. He had a gash that had been tended to by an UNF medic, but the blood still flowed slightly from the wound. "You are to come with me back to see the Imam, he wishes to speak with you personally," Aziz replied. "I suggest to you that you beg for forgiveness from Allah before you arrive, for your sake." The old general nodded as he got into the jeep, which sped back to the Berbera airport for a flight to Bossasso. |

Ibrahim's forces continued to push through the southern part of the country unhindered, Western Alliance forces having pulled back well beyond the expected area of confrontation outside of Djibouti. According to intelligence flights, the Western Alliance had pulled back within the city and were in total disarray. Ibrahim decided to radio the city and negotiate its surrender. "This is UNF Southern Army to the forces of Djibouti City," Ibrahim began his broadcast from his command vehicle. "You are outmatched, outmanned and outgunned. We will be within artillery range of your city within five hours and by then, we will have begun air operations to burn Djibouti City to the ground. What do you say to that?" Silence filled the airwaves on that frequency as Ibrahim continued his advance on Djibouti City from the southeast. Suddenly, the radio crackled to life. "This is the First Speaker of the Western Alliance. Who is this?" "You may call me Ibrahim," Ibrahim started. "The UNF demands your immediate surrender. If you are truly honorable, your forces will join our forces and end this war once and for all without excessive bloodshed. If you surrender before we begin shelling, I will ask on your behalf to the Imam to spare your lives and to not prosecute your government members for Treason. However, if my trust is abused and members of your government begin causing trouble, I will personally have you arrested and executed. Do you understand?" "Our forces will join yours immediately," Abbas radioed. "The Western Alliance surrenders and transfers governmental control to the UNF. I look forward to meeting you in person to conclude this." "As do I, UNF Southern Army out." Ibrahim immediately got onto the direct line with the UNF Northern Army. "Aziz, I beat you to it, Djibouti is in our hands!" "You liar! You're not even there yet!" Aziz called back over the radio. "But I negotiated their surrender," Ibrahim radioed. "Therefore, I was the first to capture Djibouti." "I'm not paying up on our bet, Ibrahim," Aziz replied. "Does the Imam know of this?" "Not yet, I was about to contact him but I thought you should be the first to know," Ibrahim radioed. "I will contact you when I reach Djibouti, Ibrahim out." Ibrahim turned the dial to contact the Imam. "Wise Imam, I am obliged to report that the Western Alliance is no more," Ibrahim radioed. "I plead with you though to spare the lives of their government officials. Their surrender has benefitted us greatly, and we can now move on to bigger and better things." "I am very pleased with you Ibrahim, you have proven yourself a man worthy of my praise once again," The Imam radioed. "I will spare their lives and not arrest them, as long as they don't cause problems for us." "I had already anticipated that Imam and they agreed to it," Ibrahim reported. "I might have to name you as my successor if you keep this up," The Imam said after a brief chuckle. "Very good then. I will talk to you after the surrender is written up and signed by the Western Alliance. See you then." "Likewise, Great Imam." |
