Emperor Jacob I of South Africa arrived in Ivoj Nob on board the imperial jumbo jet, accompanied by his large entourage of servants, bureacrats, and clerics. He has come here to meet Emperor Jean, in order to improve relations with South Africa's traditional arch-enemy, Syawla.

Tensions over the Congolese issue has impaired relations between Syawla and South Africa, but now that South Africa has reconciled with the Catholic Church, both Emperors are seeking to bury old rivalries and sign a treaty of friendship. In particular, Emperor Jacob hopes that the Syawlans will support the South African claims against Neo-Macedonian occupation of western South Africa, and also against the Congolese occupation of the Ladysmith enclave.

The Speaker for the Imperial Senate welcomed the South African Emperor to the country. He directed Jacob across to where a car was waiting. After a short drive the car pulled up outside the newly refurbished Ivoj Nob Cathedral. Jacob was taken to the front of the empty church, where he and only his closest associates sat to hear mass; with the South African Emperor sat alone at the front. On the other side of the nave, in the front row, sat alone, was the Syawlan Emperor Jean, his associates crowding the rows behind. After the Cardinal finished saying mass, the two Emperors left via the back of the Church for the crypt where the two great men chatted alone, out of earshot of their associates.

After a few hours they emerged. Within hours, Jacob had returned to South Africa, with the treaty signed, sealed and then stored away secretly.

"Today is a milestone for Africa; we are pleased to announce that South Africa and Syawla have agreed to become friends and allies after a wasted generation of misunderstanding and rivalry. Our two nations will bury any of our conflict in the past, so that we may work together to secure peace and prosperity for this conitnent. Syawla and South Africa constitutes a formidable bloc in African politics; we will work together to achieve our shared goals. Ultimately we will see through the abolishment of injustice and imperialism on this continent, and we hope that other nations of Africa will join us in friendship."

-Statement from the Imperial Court

***

The Emperor worked over the next few weeks to consolidate the alliance; approving economic, dplomatic, and military exchanges between the nations. Secretly, Emperor Jacob had an intense personal dislike for Emperor Jean, and fear of Syawla's rising power and interferences in southern Africa. But ever the pragmatist - with a compassionate streak - Jacob decided that if Jean was wiling to reach out to South Africa, then why not take him up on the offer? After all, a nation never had permanent enemies or permanent friends, just permanent interests. Jacob knew that even though he was the autocrat that could indulge in every whim, he had to put his personal grudges aside, for it was clear that casting South AFricas fortune with Syawla was the best route of action... Soth Africa was in a weakend position from the wars, and if anything, this alliance with Syawla will at least buy some time.

Jacob was quite pleased with the secret proviso that Syawla would support South Africa's claims against Le Leopold Congo's occupation of the Richards Bay Enclave in eastrn South Africa. Jacob also secured Syawlan support for South African claims against Neo-Macedonia. It would be easy to take advantag of Neo_macedonia's civil war and there would be no objection from any quarters if South Africa were to make war against the apostate General Hadrianus. THe specifics of any move aginst Neo-Macedonia woudl be extremely complicated, and many military and diplomatic preparations must be made first.

I am glad to be informed that the the brothers in faith, Jean and Jacob, have managed to end the tension and hostility that once ruled exchanges between South Africa and Syawla. Catholics should never fight one and another and it is most wonderful to see that the two Emperors have decided to take the lead in this most Catholic principle.
