A few years had passed since the nation's birth, and it's military was growing quickly. No longer the rag-tag army without a matching uniform among the men and second-hand rifles and artillery, the Sistani military was now a potent force that excelled in fighting in the harsh terrain that made up much of the nation and the no-man's land in the west.

The navy was growing, with the Cascade class the heavy cruiser Sistan taking the flag of the fleet. With her twelve 12" guns, 10" thick armor, and heavy secondary battery, she was practically a battleship. Three others of her class had just had their keels laid, and six keels had been laid for the slightly smaller Olympic class heavy cruisers. A number of assorted light cruisers and destroyers had already been completed, as well as a fleet of diesel-electric attack subs. The subs, while vulnerable on the surface, were far quieter on battery power than nuke boats.

By far, the best equipped branch of the military was the Sistani Air Force, which had recently been outfitted with the advanced fifth generation fighter, the A2M Talon. After data was collected during the failed New Harumfian invasion, adjustments were made to the A2M1, and the A2M2 entered full production. Already, another fighter was in the works. The as of yet unnamed A3M would be larger, faster, and have a much bigger payload, though at the cost of a bit of maneuverability loss.

A new, domestically produced AWACS craft had been completed and was christened the E1M "Sky Eye". The Sky Eye had a more powerful RADAR and ECM package than the much older E-3 Sentries used by most other nations, and a special version with a longer fuselage was produced with a large missile bay and called the EA1M Thunderhead. The Thunderhead's powerful RADAR and large payload of long range air-to-air missiles made the craft capable of owning the skies over small nations for six hours before needing to refuel.

With these new weapons, Prince Mansur was confident that his military was capable of expanding the nation's borders and still protect the nation. As such, he had ordered his forces west to do just that. Tanks, APCs, artillery, and supply trucks poured across the border at three points. One, just west of Chabahar along the coast. The second, larger of the forces, crossed northwest of Iranshahr. A third, less mechanized group crossed west of Iranshahr. In the south, force one was escorted by a task force of destroyers and light cruisers lead by the Sistan. In the north, forces two and three were on their own. Meanwhile, the E1M Sky Eye "Oka Nieba" patrolled the skies, ready to call in fighters at the first sign of trouble.

Embassador Hermann Geoffs, The King's representative to the Holy League, speaks in the press room at the Thomasopolous Palace:

We, the peace loving people of New Harumf, wish to express a deep protest regarding expansionist plots of Sistan. We encourage all nations to join is in lodging complaints with the international community. I also will lodge an official complaint with the Holy League. This type of aggressive action cannot and must not go on. This is Geoffs, speaking on the behalf of the King.

It wasn't long before the southern army ran into resistance. Forty miles into the no-man's land the advance scouts discovered a small town allied to one of the area's many warlords. A few rifle shots and a belt of .50 cal. BMG ammo later, and the unarmored jeep was broadcasting it's fate to the main force in the form of thick, black smoke. Half an hour later, the main force discovered the wrecked vehicle and what had destroyed it. A dozen men were lying in a muddy pool of their own blood before the Sistani forces had managed to get a shot off. By that time, however, the mortar fire from the hills north of the town had reached the forces, and the commander of one of the light tanks caught a shell in his lap as it plunged through the open hatch. He was the lucky one. Though wounded fairly seriously, the other three men in his tank were still alive when the flames reached them. They did not stay that way for long.

Over the course of ten minutes, the shelling claimed the lives of three dozen men and rendered fourteen vehicles flaming wrecks. The enemy forces were holed up in the hills, protected from the Sistani armor by the steep, rocky slopes. Likewise, infantry would be mowed down by the camping guerillas. A few radio messages later, the problem was mostly solved. The Sistan rotated her twelve mighty 12" guns to the north as well as eight of her smaller 6" guns. Throughout the fleet, the light cruisers and their destroyer escorts aimed their powerful 8" and 6" guns at the hills. With a roar, the Sistan opened fire, and her fleet answered with a barrage of it's own.

Back at the village, only dull thumps in the distance and a chorus of screams warned of what was about to occur. The first salvo of shells slammed into the hills, scattering small trees, rocks, and bodies for hundreds of feet around each newly formed crater. One by one the nests of the guerillas were obliterated, and the forces below were able to let out sighs of relief. After the last shell landed, more than twenty minutes after the first, thick smoke hung in the air like the tattered robes of death himself, cloaking the carnage until the infantry sent to clean up got close. A few small groups had survived the shelling in shallow caves, but a couple of frag grenades fixed that.

Less than an hour after it began, the battle of Beheshti Hills was over.
