---Resplendent News Network---

"Hi, this is Sophia with Resplendent News Network at Antioch, bringing you this evening's breaking news. His Imperial Majesty, our beloved Emperor, has announced to the local and world media that he has an important statement to make. We are broadcasting live, in front of the palace of the Theotokos in Antioch, waiting for his statement. Oh! There he is!"

The newscaster, along with most other people in the area, kneel as the Emperor of the Resplendent Dawn ascends the podium prepared for the speech. He is accompanied by a young man, the Prince of Antioch, who stands at his right hand. He nods to the people assembled before him, indicating that they should stand again. Once the crowd has returned to their feet, he begins to speak,

"Greetings, my beloved people, and to all of you who are guests in our land. I am pleased to see you all here, as I prepare to make an announcement that is of the highest importance to our nation.

In the years that I have been blessed to be your Emperor, I have been joyful, and eager to do the duty that Our Lord has prepared for me. I have done all that I could to make sure that His flock has been cared for on this Earth, where it was in my ability. However, I have also grown tired, weary. I, I have come to the conclusion that I am no longer in a state of mind where I can do the duties of a monarch. It is for this reason, that I wish to abdicate.

You will recognize my son Constantine, standing beside me. This young man possesses all the qualities necessary for a good ruler. Where I have at times not had the resolve or the strength to serve the nation, my son, I can see, will far surpass me in the abilities of a ruler. Have no fear, for with him, our glorious empire will be in good hands. Also, many wise and able men, such as Foreign Minister Ibrahim, and His Beatitude, Patriarch Photios, will help and guide him. I forsee a time of prosperity and peace for our empire.

Yes, there are tensions around the world. Yes, our times are marked by wars, and rumors of wars. But no, I am not abandoning you, my people. I feel that my abdication would be best for our country, and I have no doubts about the capabilities of my son. Tomorrow morning, in Saint Kephas Cathedral Church, Constantine will be crowned Most Pious and Holy Emperor of the Resplendent Dawn. I bid you all to love and respect him, as you have done for me. Thank you."

The newscaster begains to speak again:

"Wow. I mean, there have been rumors about this for some time now, but it is a very rare event, isn't it. Anyway, RNN will keep you updated with any further news, and will broadcast the coronation ceremony tomorrow morning."

THIS IS WWN...

...cheese production increased by 7%. And now for a story from the Middle East.

The Emperor of the Resplendent Dawn abdicated today in an effort to speed the succession of his son, Prince Constantine, who will be crowned tomorrow in Antioch.

The voluntary denial of power raised eyebrows across the globe. In Prussia, Neu Kaiser Gustavus Adolphus cruelly scorned Prince Constantine and the move by his father, saying that "Putting in the hands of a babe control of one of the bastions against Catholic aggression is ridiculous and dangerous!"

Closer to home, Sheik Saddam bin Mohammed of Egyria had no comment on the Emperor's abdication, although he did wish the young prince "...the best of luck in leading your nation to peace and prosperity."

Meanwhile, in Micronesia...

NRN: NeoRoman News

Ground was broken today for the construction of the Augustus Coliseum....

In international news today, The Emperor of the Resplendent Dawn abdicated himself to allow his youthful son, Prince Constantine assume the thrown. When asked about the situation, NeoCaesar Julius Augustus had this to say:

We are sadden that the good Emperor has chosen this course. It was always my hope that when NeoRome began it's diplomatic relations with the Resplendent Dawn, I would get the esteemed honor of meeting his excellency the Emperor himself. However, I do not blame him for his actions. The world is ever changing and there comes a time in ever man's life, I believe, that he comes to realize that he has done all he can, and that he should now leave the world in the capable hands of the young for truly it is there world. May the good Emperor's name be celebrated for many years to come, and may the soon to be Emperor Constantine see as much success as his father did while in power.

After speaking with the NeoCaesar, we then contacted Grand Governor Philippicus Bardanes of Sardinia and Corsica via satellite, and he had this to say:

We send out congratulations to Prince Constantine. We hope that his reign as Emperor will see peaceful times. We hope that his father will find peace as he steps down from the thrown and we too, hope to see his name celebrated for many years to come.

In other news, Imperial Representative Alexius Comnenus arrived in NeoRome today to speak with his excellency on diplomatic relations with Middle Eastern nations...

"The Kingdom of Sicily is sad that our friend Melchior is no longer be Emperor but also is confident and happy that Resplendent Dawn will no doubt have a great future in the hands of this energetic and capable young man. We are confident that, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the wise and virtuous Melchior, whose foresight saw the nation through unspeakable hardships and war, has made the best decision for the country."

Wadj is saddened at the actions of Emperor Melchior. He was a wise and just ruler, and he shall be missed greatly. I am, however, looking forward to working with Prince Constantine. I know him to be a kind and knowledgeable man. I hope that Emperor Melchior's retirement will bring him peace and happiness.

This morning, Prince Constantine was crowned Emperor in the Antiochene Cathedral, according to the rites of the Church.

On a related note, are there any single ladies interested in dating and possibly marrying a newly crowned Emperor??

Again, I miss my chance to get back into the RD family.

However, maybe he could marry the Catholic daughter of Emperor Emmanuel or a Catholic female descendant of Emperor Emmanuel.

Constantine could think that it would be a good way of ending the claims of that family to the throne and therefore the Catholic threat to the throne.

That's actually a very good idea. Question: can second cousins marry? Is that too close or not?

Well, they can always get dispensations...

As far as real life secular law goes, I knows that (at least in the UK) you can marry a first cousin and so, therefore, second cousins are definetly allowed to marry.

Anyway, Royal Families (and especially Imperial Families) always marry in very close degrees of familial relationship. The Habsburgs even had cases of uncle marrying neice!

Then again, there were also high amounts of madness, or at least eccentricity, in the Hapsburgs.

Inbreeding is underrated. The mad kings were inbred, but so were the good kings.

It will make for more interesting RP's. And, Tri Lat is right in what he says. Mad Kings and good Kings were all part of the same very small gene pool.
