The Very Model of a Modern Major General

SBC: Sarawakhan Broadcasting Company Hello. I'm Stoughton Dorcestershire-St. Brent, and this is SBC News at six. In our top story tonight, increased civil unrest in Armenon has prompted the EIC to send in additional troops for the protection of King Iajuddin Sangsad and the rest of the Armenoni Royal Family. Raja Reginald Brooke had this to say on the situation: "I fully support this action taken by the East India Company. King Iajuddin Sangsad has always been a close ally of Sarawakh and my personal friend. I would hate to see his nation torn by civil war." The EIC says that its agents have been noticing increased restlessness in the people of Armenon, and that they have reason to suspect that a revolution is imminent. The troops will be used as a supplement to the EIC troops already in place at the request of King Sangsad. In other news, Norightsia and Van Demans Land continue to feud over their respective annexations... The mob gathered in front of the palace the next morning. "Out with the white oppressor!" they chanted a scant fifty yards from the heavily armed East India Company foot soldiers who had been guarding the king. "Down with the King!" The mob quickly swelled and in the wet, sticky heat of midday more than a thousand enraged Armenonians stood in front of the palace. The ranks of the East India Company's soldiers had also been reinforced and about fifty soldiers armed with automatic rifles now stood facing the mob. The first beer bottle came hurtling towards the East India Company men at 1:12. One of the soldiers fired a burst into the air with his rifle to try and calm the crowd down but it seemed to have the opposite effect. At once the crowd roared and more bottles and other assorted debris and rubbish were thrown at the soldiers. More bursts were fired into the air as the crowd rushed forward. As the crowd closed to twenty five yards it became clear that they would not stop short of the soldiers. The East India Company men shouldered their weapons and began blazing away. For several seconds the automatic rifles created a wall of flames and hot lead in front of the charging mob. The front two rows of the mob absorbed the majority of the bullets and many were mutilated beyond recognition. But the crowd kept coming, roaring as they ran towards the soldiers some of whom fumbled about their waists for a second magazine while the others prepared for hand to hand combat. The wave of humans broke upon the East India Company soldiers and they were separated and overwhelmed. They were outnumbered twenty to one and quickly succumbed to the waves of painful blows to the face, gut, shins, groin and anywhere else that could concievably, or sometimes inconceivably, be struck. The first line rushed forward into the palace and was followed by the remainder of the mob. Behind them they left the fifty broken and bleeding bodies of the East India Company soldiers and innumerable peasants who had fallen pray their wall of lead. |

Maron Hesion was the last soldier surviving. He was sure most of his ribs were broken, as well as his nose, and possibly his arm. Even opening his eyes was painful. Looking up, he saw a straggler from the mob pilfering valuables from his comrades. Enraged, he searched for his rifle, but he could not find it. Now the man was over an Sarwakhan trooper a few feet away from Maron. This would not stand. realizing he still had his sidearm, he fumbled it out and aimed at the thief. The man saw the gun and began to call for help, but was cut short by a shot to the temple. Some minutes later, Maron stood up, barely able to keep his feet. He looked around confusedly. "How had they done it?" He daren't bend down to get a rifle, so he hobbled off the steps towards town. He would find medical care. Somehow... Three hours later, Maron has still not reached the hospital. He was hiding. Unable to do anything but lean, he had made it into a shed. But they were looking for him. He still couldn't fathom how they'd managed to break through 50 armed guards. It was useless to try and figure it out. He had to keep his wits about him, or he would join his comrades. It had taken all his strength to find this place, and he could do nothing more until he could at least rest. He knew he needed urgent care, but they would see him. He strongly doubted he would make it home. Home. Norightsia. Out of this hell of a jungle filled with revolting peasents and snakes. What had he dome to deserve this? At that moment he snapped. He could not escape, but he could fight. His pistol was half empty. He has had to shoot it serveral more times to get to where he was now. Loudly, clumsily, painfully, he reloded it. Immediately a rebel peasent came in. The man had a gun but could not point it before Maron shot him. Surprisingly, no one came to investigate. Elated, Maron hobbled out of the shack. Right into the muzzle of a stolen EIC rifle. "FREEZE!" Was the order. He could not speak, so he shot the man in the leg. Unable to hold the gun level through the pain, the rebel fired multiple rounds through the empty shed. Maron shot him again, this time in the chest. He looked around. No one again. He started to move but couldn't, and collapsed in the remote jungle clearing with the dead rebels. |

Sargeant Brynmor got together as many surviving men as he could. There were ten in all, 3 Norightsians and 7 Sarawakhans. They were retreating into the interior of the Palace, the angry mob close on their heels. "Look," he said in a thick Welsh accent, "We've got to protect Lord Disraeli and the King. They have locked themselves, and about twenty other members of the King's court, into a room on the second floor. We have to get there before the mob does." They ran through the palace, up a beatiful curved marble staircase, and into a hallway. Sargeant Brynmor knocked on one of the doors. "Its Sargeant Brynmor, Your Highness," he yelled. The lock on the door clicked and it opened. Lord Disraeli peered out. "What's going on?" asked Lord Disraeli. "The Mob has breached the outer perimeter. They'll be here any minute," answered Sargeant Brynmor. "We have at least ten rifles in here. I can help you with the defence," said Lord Disraeli. "So can I," said King Sangsad from within the room. A chorus of other voices also pledged their help. Sargeant Brynmor looked inside and took a quick estimation. There were about twelve people, including Disraeli and King Sangsad, that were capable of defending the room. "Wonderful, your Highness. I have a plan. Take all the furniture you have in there, and divide it in half. Give us one half, and we'll set up a perimeter outside your door. You take the other half and set up one just inside the door. We'll try and hold them off for as long as we can. If they kill us, they'll break down the door. At least you'll be ready for them." They began their preparations. Luckily the room was filled with furniture, and they managed to make a respectable perimeter around the room. They heard a loud shout coming from the direction of the stairwell. The mob had arrived. |

Kasnyian Forces have entered Armenon from the west, in order to quell any of the resistance fighters from entering Kasnyia which have halted their advance just before the capital, awaiting word from the King of Armenon and the EIC to enter. Even if no such word is given however, Kasnyia will keeps its troops in western Armenon to make sure their revolutionaries don't join with Kasnyia's rebels. |

As the first line of the mob dissappeared into the palace's huge arched entrance way, Divyesh Hemachandra tripped over the body of one of the soldiers. Sprawled on his belly in a pool of blood they were right in front of his face and would have been impossible to ignore. "Grenades!" he yelled in Hindi. He snatched two out of the combat harness of the nearest soldier and then pulled himself up to a kneeling position and took four more off of two other nearby soldiers. Those around him also paused to free a few from the soldiers combat webbing. The mob spead out through all the corridors of the palace. No one knew exactly where to find the kings quarters but it was only a matter of time before one of the hundreds stumbled across the barricade of the last defenders. The sound of automatic weapons fire caused each and every one of the enraged citizens of Armenon that stormed the palace that day to cease their room by room search of the palace and make their way towards the deafening sound. Divyesh was in the third group to arrive on the scene. He peeked around the corner and quickly pulled his head back to escape the shower of rock fragments that were freed by the bullets of the defenders. The first group was now slowly bleeding to death on the floor of the thirty feet of corridor that separated the mob from the defender's barricade and about three quarters of the second group had met the same fate. The third group, however, had a distinct advantage. Divyesh pulled the pin on one of his recently liberated grenades and cocked back his arm to throw it. He took one step sideways so that the right side of his body, his right arm and with it, the primed grenade were visible to the defenders. A few of the EIC soldiers lifted their weapons to fire but when they saw what was held by Divyesh's upstretched arm they threw themselves to the ground behind the hastily assembled pile of furniture which was serving as their portection. The grenade flew threw the air, came crashing to the ground and slid along the marble floor. Divyesh had the presence of mind to step back behind the wall, unlike a few of his fellow rebels who were watching the grenade progress down the hallway. The grenade came to rest near the bottom of the pile of furniture under the back of a wooden chair. It sat there for what seemed like hours but in reality was probably no longer than a second and a half. The explosion was deafening. The pile of furniture that was supposed to be protecting the Kings's few valiant defenders was in an instant transformed into thousands of deadly splinnters that hurtled away from the site of the blast in all directions. Most lodged themselves in the defenders while a small portion found the few unintelligent rebels who had underesimated the destructive force vested in that one small grenade. The bodies were instantly grizzled by splinters leavin the defenders disfigured and largely unrecognizable. One of the rebels lay slumped against the bannister with a eight inch sliver of oak from a desk lodged in his thigh above the knee. For almost a minute the rebels waited, shocked by the noise and destruction of the grenade, then they began to advance at a quick walk toward the door that had been protected by the barricade. As Divyesh advanced he could see that two of the great doors three hinges had been severed and the door look as if it were perched rather precariously in the door jamb. Divyesh summoned all the strength he could muster and dealt the door a mighty blow with his foot. The remaining hinge broke and the door fell inwards to reveal the Council Chambers. Standing facing the doors were nearly twenty aging men with rifles that outdated them by atleast a century, in some cases two. They had broken open the cabinet that housed King's antique hunting rifle collection and had used the ancient powderhorns, papers and balls to load the rifles. Due to the fact that few of the men had ever been taught how to properly operate a muzzle loaded rifle, the vast majority of the rifles did not fire correctly. There was a great deal of racket as the powder from the ten rifles was ignited, but in most case all that was yielded was a .50 cal musket ball barely rolling out of the tip of the barrel. King Sangsad however had operated such a rifle many times in his life and his .50 cal ball of lead flew true, striking Divyesh square in the forehead. His body was pushed to the ground and trampled as the mob rushed into the room. With no chance to fire another volley most of the ministers attempted to flee. Upon finding that the only way out of the room was the one by which the rebels were pouring in one cowardly finance minister hurled himself through one of the large plate glass windows and plummeted two stories to his death. King Sangsad and Lord Disraeli drew the swords on their hips and faced the mob back to back. One by one the citizens of Armenon were hacked to peices by the swords of their rulers. This continued until Lord Disraeli's sword became lodged in the spin of one of the mob. He tried to extricate it from the dying commoner to no avail and he was beaten from all sides. He fell to the ground and assumed the fetal position but the people kept beating him until they beat the will to live from him. With one last scream of agony Lord Disraeli left the realm of the living. Hearing his scream King Sangsad fell upon his own sword, prefering his death to be at his own had rather than at the hand of thos he had loved and served for much of his life. |

OOC: Bravo Al Araam! Its like a scene out of the Sepoy Rebellion of 1857! I always thought Disraeli would go down fighting. IC: Raja Reginald Brooke walked out onto the balcony of his palace in Kuching. He looked grave and serious. He pulled a sheaf of papers out of his suitcoat, and adjusted the microphone. "My fellow citizens of Sarawakh, I have grave and unfortunate news. King Sangsad of Armenon has been killed by an unruly and bloodthristy mob. The East India Company representative in Armenon, Lord Disraeli, has unfortunately suffered the same fate, as have at least 200 Sarawakhan and 100 Norightsian soldiers have also perished. Dhaka is in an uproar. EIC and loyal Armenoni forces have grouped together in the East India Company Fort Wensleydale outside the city. They are currently under siege by the rebels. Though some towns have remained loyal to King Sangsad and the EIC, many have killed their EIC representatives and looted EIC outposts. It is a very dangerous situation. King Sangsad, unfortunately, has no living direct descendants, and I have asked the EIC to find his closest living relative to ensure that he has a successor. I do, however, have some good news. I would like to thank the nation of Kasnyia for their assistance in controlling the rebels. Though our nations have had their differences in the past, I hope that we can work together to neutralize this threat. But the work of the Sarawakhan and Norightsian EICs, as well as the Kasnyian army, is not enough to secure Armenon. That is why, at the request of the Sarawakhan EIC, I have decided to send troops of the Sarawakhan Royal Army into Armenon to ensure that the rebels are rebuffed. I can only hope that the brave soldiers of Sarawakh, Norightsia, and Kasnyia can bring this horrible matter to a close." |

We would be willing to send some troops to support the Kasnyian government. Since the conflicts within the region have intensified, we have had our military on standby for nearly a month. At any time we can send up to 15,000 ground forces. More than that would take some preparation upwards of a week. We offer these forces freely to help stabalize the Kasnyian government. Ask, and they are yours on loan. |

LOYALIST-HELD TERRITORY, ARMENONI COAST The last Norightsians boarded their ship, and began the journey home. Private Mahatma Apoorva, of the 34th EIC Infantry, looked bitterly at his Lieutenant. "Why do the Norightsians abandon us in our time of need? I wish to regain my country. I wish to have a King once more. Will they not help us?" Lieutenant Shipton looked his best soldier in the eye. "I know it seems like they are abandoning us, but they have their own problems. They need to fight Van Demans Land now. We cannot blame them for defending their own nation," he answered. "Still, they did leave at a rather awkward time. But look what has come out of this. Sarawakh and Kasnyia have dropped their old feud." Private Apoorva stared at his officer. "But I am Armenoni. I want Armenon to regain its strength. I joined the EIC army because they would bring wealth to Armenon. While I wish Sarawakh the very best, I am Armenoni at heart." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DHAKA, EIC FORT WENSLEYDALE The loyal Armenonis and the EIC had been trapped in Fort Wensleydale for two weeks. All communications with the outside world had been cut. They didn't even know if anyone knew they were there. Every day was a long period of boredom punctuated by intense periods of mortal danger. Food was running low, and the well was beginning to dry up. Many Sarawakhans, used to air-conditioning and other bourgeious pleasures, got heat sickness. The Armenonis were less susceptible to this, but it was excruciatingly hot, and many of them succumbed as well. When soldiers were on duty, they crouched by the wall and shot into the seething mass of rebels below. When they were not on duty they sat in the mud. Some played cards and talked, but most of them just sat under the glaring sun. Time was running out. More were dying each day. Colonel Adaire was not handling the responsibility of command very well. Major General Marshall had died the previous week, and he had been next in command. He tried to bring the soldiers spirits up, to help them to believe that soon they would be rescued, but hope was running out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NARAYANGANJ, ARMENON, LOYALIST-CONTROLLED TERRITORY Operation Hornbill, the relief force being sent to Fort Wensleydale, was getting off to a slow start. General Donovan had to wade through miles of bureaucratic nonsense. Finally, after signing a form in quadruplicate, he snapped. "Damnation! Don't they know that there are people in Fort Wensleydale? Our people! Loyal Armenonis! We have to save them! I can't dicker around all day signing bloody forms! These people need our help! My God!" He picked up a telephone, a direct connection to the Raja. "Hello, Your Highness. This is General Donovan. ... Well your highness, I was wondering if I could get your permission to start the relief force towards Fort Wensleydale. ... Yes your Highness. ... I was forced to sign forms your Highness. ... My thoughts exactly your Highness. ... Goodbye." Donovan hung up the phone with a gleeful look on his face. The expedition was about to begin. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PUBLIC SPEECH BY RAJA REGINALD BROOKE OF SARAWAKH "My fellow citizens. I have good news, which I am sure will be heartining to all of you after Norightsia's decision to pull out of Armenon. We have located a successor to the Armenoni throne: Dhananjay Nidhish. Dhananjay will be crowned in Chittagong next week. He is King Sangsad's third cousin twice removed. I have given him lodging in my palace, and have found him to be an admiral youth, who has accomplished much for his age. Though he is only seventeen, I know that he will make a wise and honorable ruler of Armenon. |

OOC: The Armenonis that wish for Armenon to be free from outside influences can be called Rebels or possibly Nationalists or something that makes them sound more patriotic. To themselves they are patriots, fighting for the freedom of their country from outside rule. This is the death of Armenon as far as I go. I will no longer be an active participant in this region, though I was thinking about starting an Armenoni government in exile. They would be an organization somewhat like the Palestinian leadership. Sort of a loose conglomerate of patriots and terrorist that make life difficult for the occupying forces and the imposter government. Perhaps they may even make a resurgance if I decide at some time in the future that I have the time to spend again. |

CHITTAGONG, ARMENON--THE CORONATION CEREMONY Dhananjay Nidhish stood in front of his people on a high dais. The national anthem of Armenon played in the background. EIC troops stood eveywhere. Though the rebellion had not spread this far south, they did not want to take any chances. An EIC delegation sat on one side of Dhananjay, and a delegation of Armenoni noblemen sat on the other. The national anthem stopped. A representative of the East India Company walked slowly towards the Dananjay and presented the crown on a velvet pillow. Dananjay smiled and took the crown in both hands. He placed it upon his head, and the onlookers cheered wildly. An EIC representative walked to the microphone and said "I present to you Dananjay Nidhish, King of Armenon!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OPERATION HORNBILL--THE RELIEF OF FORT WENSLEYDALE The EIC soldiers had slogged through Armenon, and had finally made their way to fort Wensleydale. The Rebels had put up a terrible fight, but they had been beaten. An EIC charge finally broke the ranks of the rebels and they fled. General Donovan rode through the gates, past throngs of cheering Sarawakhans and Armenonis. Colonel Adaire stood in front of his office, wearing his best dress uniform. "So good of you to come, General Donovan," said Colonel Adair urbanely. "The pleasure was all mine, old fellow," said General Donovan genially. The men shook hands emphatically while the entire garrison cheered wildly. Fort Wensleydale had been relieved. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RANGPUR, NORTHERN ARMENON The EIC was pushing northward at an alarming rate. The rebels fled before the oncoming loyalists. They had chosen to make their last stand in the ancient fort at Rangpur. Three thousand rebel soldiers were besieged in the fort, and food was running out. But they would not surrender to the Sarawakhan devils who had made Armenon a nation of slaves. The seige lasted for weeks. The rebels were strong. Finally halfway through the fourth week the EIC breached the walls. Chaos reigned. Most of them died in the first charge. Thirty five rebels fortified themselves in the armory and held out for seven more days, but evenrually they too fell. The EIC proclaimed victory. Sarawakh had won its prize. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DHAKA, ARMENON King Nidhish stood on the balcony of the heavily damaged palace. He was making a speech to his people. "Armenon has gone through many trials and hardships. Through all of them we have had the support of the Raj of Sarawakh. Through all of them, the East India Company has been by our side. We owe our lives to the assistance of Sarawakh and the EIC. Now Armenon must rebuild. We are not a wealthy nation. We are not a large nation. We need the protection of Sarawakh and the EIC to survive. That is why I am officially declaring Armenon a protectorate of Sarawakh." |

Armenon was a nation torn. A nation split between ideals. Subservience and Rebellion. Peace and Strife. The youth of Armenon were chafed by the Raj's rule. They looked back upon a time where their nation had been free. Loknaf Madhav was twenty six and the fire of rebellion coursed through his veins. East India Company soldiers had abducted his parents from their home just past the outskirts of Dhaka and tortured and killed them. He had fled the country, like many Armenonians, when it became clear that the rebellion had failed and Sarawakh would take control. He now lived in a small city-state to the north of his homeland. There was not a day that went by that he did not think of his parents and their murders. Not a day that he didn't think of his homeland. Not a day that he didn't yearn to take a stand against the Sarawakan oppressors. Someday he would avenge his parents' deaths. Someday he would return to his homeland. Someday he would make his stand. Someday... |

I am afraid that I cannot comply with the wishes of Kasnyia. King Nidhish made no mention of Kasnyia in his proclamation of protectorate status. I do, however, wish to repay my Kasnyian allies in full. Perhaps you would be so kind as to name other, non-territorial, rewards? I would be quite willing to do almost anything else. Respectfully Yours, Raja Reginald Brooke of Sarawakh |
