Posted Image "Sire, Jiran Hjork's airplane has landed." "Excellent." Postponed several times, forgotten in the midst of everything going on Europe, the "dinner" between Neu Kaiser Gustavus Adolphus of Prussia and President Jiran Hjork of Yshurak was finally going to occur. Upon affirmation, the Kaiser had sent a special VIP version of the prototype Me P.1108/I, one of Prussia's designs for a new conventional heavy bomber. With luck, they would not just be having dinner. *** The President's motorcade left the airport. There was no crowd to greet him, just Prussian soldiers of the 1st Infantry Division lined up along the road and in a pair of APC's - one in front, one behind the luxurious limousine - along with 6 squad cars of local police. Whether it was a show of force to impress the President, or just Prussian paranoia, Jiran Hjork didn't care - he was too busy enjoying the comforts of the limousine. And thinking of what was to come. *** "Sire, the Yshurakian delegation is here." "So it begins..." |

Jiran Hjork was probably the least paranoid man in the world. He probably appeared unnervingly relaxed to onlookers, keeping an ever cool head. He was certain that unless Prussia wanted to invite his country's untested wrath, that the Kaiser would behave himself at the dinner. Allowing himself to be escorted through the many hallways of the Kaiser's great home, he let his eyes dance around admiring the architecture and decorum. When he was finally brought to the banquet hall, Jiran promptly took Gustavus' hand in his and gave it a firm shake. "A pleasure to finally meet you in person, Neu Kaiser!" |

"The pleasure is all mine dear President! Come, let us eat." They entered the banquet hall, and the respective entourages sat down for a formal meal fit for, well, a Neu Kaiser and a President. "A toast - to Europe and all that she may accomplish!" "Here here!" They chit-chatted throughout the feast, deliberately being nonchalant and making small talk with everyone. Jiran Hjork politely listened to the Neu Kaiser babbling on and on about his entrepeneurial fortune. What, did he forget that I'm communist? thought the President with a smile to himself. Several courses - and slackened belts - later, the Neu Kaiser stood. Everyone else quickly did the same. "I wonder, sir, if you would care to join me for a private dessert?" "I think that would be most splendid." *** As the Neu Kaiser and the President walked to Gustavus' private chambers, Jiran Hjork realized that he had to tie his shoe. "You go on ahead, I'll be there in a moment." As soon as Gustavus disappeared from sight, a man stepped out from the shadows. "President Jiran Hjork." "Crown Prince Ruprecht? It is good to see you up-close, you are the spitting image of your father. But now, I must go - " "Just one thing, sir." "Yes?" His voice dropped down to a low whisper. "My father, as you may have noticed, is a little... off." Jiran Hjork agreed but outwardly did nothing, just stared at the Crown Prince. "I assure you that I do not take after my father in that regard. My father wants your military and little else, to be frank. But I look forward to the day when you and I work together - for the good of Europe." The Crown Prince walked off. Jiran Hjork paused, and walked towards the Neu Kaiser's room. |

Jiran Hjork waltzed calmly into Gustavus' chambers, once again admiring the architecture around him. As soon as he came in, Gustavus offered him a comfortable chair to sit down on while they would wait for dessert. Starting to push past middle age, Jiran found the seat incredibly forgiving to his aging muscles. "You live like a king, Gustavus," Jiran said in a joking tone, since that's pretty much what the Neu Kaiser was. "But I also know you invited me here for more than just idle chit chat. Shall we discuss the real matters of why we've come together today?" |

OOC: Um, right, let's just assume this has been a meeting of several day's, with tours of Danzig and all that jazz or something "Prussia is surrounded, blocked. Poland to the south, Saxe-Coburg to the west, Laeplaen to the north, NeoRome to the east. War has almost come to Europe several times, and only the word of the Pope will decided whether this current crisis will cause general war to break out. We simply cannot hold back Poland and Saxe-Coburg. One or the other, but not both." "Our economic and religious idealogies may be quite different, Mr. President. But there is no doubt in my mind that, should the Catholic League go to war, and should they defeat us, then there is no doubt in my mind that they will eventually seek to 'convert' your atheist country, make your citizens see the light... by force. I mean no disrespect, sir, but I do not believe that Yshurak could fight off the Catholic League on her own." "We may lack much in common, but what we do have in common is the threat from Catholic Europe and her hegemony. My son is at a secret conference in the Middle East, conferring with several nations on the Papal risk - but with Scythirus wholly unpredictable, they cannot risk an exposure of their flank." "The result is an equilibrium on all fronts. Saxe-Coburg and Poland would have to work together to defeat my Prussia, but we cannot take the war to them. The Middle Eastern nations cannot open a second front to the south because Scythirus threatens - but neither can they move on Scythirus without risking yet another Papal move into Syria and Palestine." "The European Peace Council is weak and cannot be considered true allies. And so YOU, President Hjork, are the weight that can unbalance the scale." "Please do not take that as an insult in any way. I truly believe that the only reason that the Church has not yet made moves upon your nation is because we are the more obvious threat. Your nation is the sleeping bear of the east, the nation that everyone but myself has overlooked." "I ask for your nation's friendship and strength in these dark times. I suppose, too, that I am also asking that we prepare for war - in hopes of peace." |

President Jiran Hjork thought quietly to himself after he listened to the Neu Kaiser's proposal. Indeed they had many differences, communism being unapproving of monarchies and religions, both of which Prussia held in spades. But they did have a common problem, the far more militant and bloated Holy League. It'd be a proletariat's nightmare if Catholic Europe ever decided to flex its muscle against anti-Catholic or anti-religious countries in Europe. He gave a weigh of both the pros and cons before coming to a full decision. "Yshurak will accept an alliance with Prussia," Mr. Hjork said. "But a limited one. We will only come to your full military aid in the incidence that Catholic Europe and its fanatical Pope suddenly acquires the idea to 'convert' the continent. I must confess such a possibility has plagued my sleep for some time now...." |

"Excellent, excellent! We should prepare the paperwork as soon as possible! But first, have I told you about my fortune..." Jiran laughed inwardly. OOC: We should make a separate treaty topic - "The Baltic Treaty" or some such name, I dunno. I need to know what Yshurak's stipulations are before I can write anything though |

OOC: Trade will remain mostly open and autonomous, subject only to typical national regulations. Also, Yshurak will only desire a joint military action with Prussia in the incidence the Holy League decides to go on a Crusade. Otherwise, militaries and governments will not trade information of any kind. Those're the core basics. |
