It was a beautiful afternoon in Arakyne. The sun was positioned perfectly over the high white walls of the palace gardens . This Tuesday beheld the very same ritual as beheld by its predecessor. Iqbal Amin sat in the center of the circular grass lawn in the middle of the garden. With him sat his wife Fahira and his twelve-year-old daughter Saba. The sat upon a blanket and ate their lunch in the utter peace and serenity of the garden, while the slight breeze gently played with their hair and clothing. When they had eaten their fill, Saba lay down on the blanket and rested while Iqbal and Fahira discussed the day’s events. “…and we should be to the Spring Palace before eleven tonight,” Iqbal finished. “ I look forward to it with all my heart. It has been such a long time since we have been able to be together as a family,” Fahira said. The quiet serenity of the garden was shattered by the sound of boots against the manicured rock path. Three men in the uniform of the palace guard approached and saluted. “Mr. Amin, you are needed at the palace. It appears something has come up. It sounded rather urgent.” “Thank you, Captain. Fahira, it appears I will have to catch up with you and Saba later. I will meet you at the Spring Palace tomorrow morning, if not sooner.” He turned on his heel and rushed back to the palace with the three guards. |
