CIVIL WAR!; Egyria descends into anarchy!

THIS IS WWN...

The nation once known as the Socialist Sheikdom of Egyria has collapsed into anarchy. This results from yesterday's death of the extremely popular Sheik, Omar bin Kazali and, by a cruel twist of fate, the entire Council of Ministers.

Catholic European or Scythirian involvement is suspected, but little evidence exists either way.

Egyrian military forces apparently attempted to stay the fracturing, but soon found themselves set against each other as each military commander believed their course was the best course.

The result is that former Egyria is now little more than a Yugoslavic-esque group of miniature states, united by little else but the vindication of Sheik Kazali.

No less than nine of these states now exist in Egypt, and in tiny Syria, there is even more chaos with 11 factions vying for supremacy.

In both regions, arguably the most legitimate claim to government comes from the 'Adhamah Home Guard, the elite sector of the Egyrian military, which is in control of both capitals, Thebesia in Egypt and Mamluk in Syria.

It is not quite clear how the world will react to this turn of events. Nathan Goldin, a former officer in the United States military and WWN's advisor on such matters, had this to say:

"Certainly the collapse of Egyria has caused a vast power vacuum to appear in the Middle East. Nations with a certain grudge against Egyria, such as Catholic Europe or Scythirus, might seek to seize power - or, perhaps in Catholic Europe's case, exploit the exposed flank of The Resplendent Dawn or the other small Arab republics on the borders of the Anatolian peninsula. Then again, there is the possibility of Patrua stepping in to protect Egyria - or, on the other hand, decide that instability in Africa is unfavorable to them and simply take Egypt for themselves. There's really no one way the region may act - but I for one wouldn't be surprised if a second War of Succession arose."

In the case of war it seems unlikely that the Egyrian military would be able to mount an effective defense. While relatively intact in terms of numbers and armaments, it seems unlikely the various military leaders would be willing to work together.

Pride, then again, may prove to be what saves Egyria.

This is John Clark, WWN, New York.

This comes as no surprise to the people of West Asian Catalonia. Our only worry is if the recent factions will spill over onto our land, so close to the Syrian conflict. We pray that all sides can reconsile and that peace can be restored.

OOC: Ah, the Catholics are blamed yet again! For RP sakes, so you guys know, Catholic Europe is no longer interested in non-Catholic affairs. It has too much to deal with domestically to bother about non-Catholics. The Pope will obviously give his opinions but that is it.

And another War of Succession, that will mean two wil be raging in the region at the same time. Don't mean to be rude guys but can we not think of something original?

OOC: I figured as much OOC but the record is against you IC.

Well, this isn't about some leader who wants his own way (no offense to all). This is about the stake of an entire COUNTRY

OOC: Okay, I agree. The region is, IC, pretty anti-Catholic so it stands to reason.

OOC: Well, with Scythirus' insane plan to kill off the rulers of the Middle East, it stands to reason that a few wars of Succession would occur, if any of the assassination attempts were to succeed. Besides, a war with Scythirus was inevitable, after what he did to the representatives of the nations sent to question him about the nuclear bomb. This was just a breaking point to resolve the unresolved conflicts from the War of the Dawnsian Succession. At least, thats the way I see it.

IC: Wadj hopes that Egyria can regain control of the situation before too many lives are lost.

OOC.
There's no reason these two conflicts can't both be parts of a Second War of Succession. After all, they both organically evolved from the aftermath of the first one, no?

IC.
"With the news of Egyria descending into anarchy and civil war, the Imperial Council has been quick in its reaction. Seeing a second valuable member of the alliance against Catholic European expansionism being subject to the wolf-packs of war, is truly a saddening experience. The Empire has announced that the Legionistani border with Egyria will be closed. The airspace, nautical borders and land borders will be tightly controlled by the Imperial Armed Forces and violations will be dealt with in the most effective way. In Syrian Egyria, the Eleventh Legion, the last remnant of the Patruan detachment that protected the Resplendent Dawn in the First War of Succession, has been ordered to cancel its preparations for repatriation and go to stand-by status in case Patrua needs to contain the conflict from spreading to a weakened Catholic Europe or keep a divided Syrian Egyria from falling to foreign annexation. In Legionistan, the Seventh, Eight and recently returned Second and Fourth Legions are kept on stand by for the same reason.
The Empire has no desire to exploit the vulnerable situation Egyria is in by annexing parts of it and we wish to ease the minds of those that sparked such worried hypotheses at WWN.

As civil war in such a scattered nation would undoubtedly cause a tremendous toll on the civilian population, the Empire invites all leaders to a peace conference in Elesion, Legionistan so that a compromise can be reached rather than war be pursued. Therefore, the Empire will refrain from choosing favourites. The diplomatic delegations will be checked and tightly escorted from the Legionistani borders to Elesion. I myself shall attempt to broker an accord."

OOC: That seems quite reasonable. It makes more sense than having two wars at once.

The Scythirian government has made no comment about Omar bin Kazali's death or the civil war that has broken loose.

"The offer to gather around in a neutral nation and prevent the outbreak of hostilities has been categorically denied by every single faction. It seems that neither is committed to peace, so the Empire will withdraw the offer again. The border remains closed and the Second Legion in Legionistan and the Eleventh Legion in the Resplendent Dawn will be closely monitoring the borders. We will uphold a policy of non-intervention but preserve the right to engage any faction that either crosses the border or gets within shooting range of the border. We have seen the irreconcilable and incommunicative stubborness of the faction leaders, now they can expect quite the same treatment from the Empire's leadership. We will set up camps alongside the border of Legionistan to accommodate the expected flood of refugees. Our Imperial Armed Forces will guarantee their safety once they are within the Empire's borders. The Twelfth and Thirteenth Legions currently stationed in Legionistan too, will be assisting the Second in keeping the border tightly sealed. In Syria, the Eleventh will be assisting the Resplendent Dawn in wontrolling border security and engaging trespassers. We currently have no knowledge as to whether Catholic Europe or the Resplendent Dawn will be installing refugee camps or not. We hope that the different factions will use their sense and leadership to find a diplomatic solution rather than to wage war over a country that belongs to them all."

Catholic Europe has no plans to open official refugee camps to any seeking refuge from the Civil War in Egyria.

Our borders, however, are always open for any Catholic seeking refuge or immigration to Catholic Europe. Non-Catholics are also welcome on condition that they convert to Catholicism should they wish to enter Catholic Europe for any reason other than tourism.

We would welcome refugees in order to work to rebuild the country.

As ever Nag Ehgoeg's boarders are open to any refugee despite our recent politcal reforms. However we can no longer afford an outreach program so immegrants must be willing to travel to the far side of the region... then take part in "Who wants to be an Immigrant?" followed by getting a minium wage dead end job... Did I mention we abolishde the minium wage laws?
