OOC: The Church, in Catholic Europe, is essentially in a state of crisis, especially with regards to Papal succession. The War has completely ravaged Catholic Europe and the Church and thus Pope Benedict XVII feels that there is great need for a third Council to be called. The First Council, called the Council of Genesis City, was a very liberal Council, infact I have just finished reading it and am astonished at quite how liberal it was! The Second Council, called the Council of Tridenta, undid all of the liberalism of the First Council, being convened by Pope Emmanuel I and, most importantly for this Council, proclaimed the dogma that the Pope must be of Royal Blood. Seriously, I need this thread to establish a legitimate way forward - what to do with the Papacy etc. |

Although X&C is a secular country, there are numerous Catholics here, and their head is Bishop Jose DiPesto, a very conservative man from Seville. He is 91 years old, but in good health, and would like to take one final pilgrimage to see the newest Pope, recieve his blessing, and contribute what he can to the council. He asks the pontif's blessing for such a journey, and has been praying that recent tensions between the King and the Pope will not interfere. |

Okay, well, especially with the news that there is now a Prince Gravir of Catholic Europe the succession is not as important although it still remains a very delicate issue. |

If you're ever interested in setting up a Catholic temple in the distant Japanese lands of Kiru Tao, I'll be more than interested. The country practices freedom of religion, and thus there'll bound to be a Catholic minority in it. |

The Council will begin on Tuesday. The first topic of discussion will be on the Papal succession crisis. Thereafter much talk will be given to missionary work in Asia and Europe as well as any other topics which the delegates from the various nations wish to discuss. Much of the Council will be presided over by Cardinal Rodrigo rather than His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVII. Although, it will be opened by the Holy Father. |

Archbishop Syongmin Han has arrived in Genesis City to attend the council. He slipped out of the country just before the start of the campaign against religion and will not be allowed to return to Manchuria. The Manchurian government is requesting that Catholic Europe turn this subversive and traitor over for punishment. |

CEN News Update "Not since the very beginning of Pope St. Emmanuel I's reign has the Church had a General Council. Hundreds of foreign Cardinals, Bishops, Priests, Monks and nuns have been arriving in Morena, a monastic village in North Catholic Europe. His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVII, has officially opened the Council after celebrating Mass along with 500 of the Cardinals. Prayers were said that this Council would be given the inspiration, through the Holy Spirit, to find a suitable solution to the Papal Succession Crisis - a taboo subject." More updates to follow. |

May I suggest you put a slate of candidates together, including foreign nationals, and allow all nations with a Cardinal to vote?? You can, as the nation with the most Cardinals, reserve the right to over-rule the vote. I think the hereditary Pope thingy ending would do a lot to apease your neighbors. |

Hmm, I think I may have to end the Hereditary Pope thingy. It's not really what I want but for the RP to be credible it will have to happen eventually. As it stands there are only two heirs left - Prince August and Prince Gravir. After that the whole Royal Family will have died and no one will be there to take over the succession. Another option is to allow the Pope to beget a male heir - but that would be highly controversial I guess. As for your suggestions - allowing nations to vote, when they may not even be majority Catholic nations, is just far too radical to be even considered. It would be like saying the Pope doesn't have to be Catholic to be Catholic. This really is a major crisis for Catholic Europe. The fact that there are, virtually, no heirs for future generations from the Royal Family means that Catholic Europe would not have a leader. In effect, anarchy would assume rule in Catholic Europe. This is a major crisis. |

There is always the problem of my nations name. No, I think that a mass conversion to Orthodoxy would just not be feasible lol. |
