Following the war, Emperor Melchior has been somewhat uncertain about things. As a result, he has turned more surely toward the Church, and is trying to adopt a more humble tone.

As a result he has decreed that he will no longer be referred to as His Imperial Holiness, feeling that it is presumptous for a secular ruler to use such a style. (he will still be titled Most Pious and Holy Emperor though, as he does believe the rank is sanctified, though not necessarilly he himself)

Furthermore, he has passed on to his sons some of his excess titles.

His oldest son is now Constantine, Prince of Antioch. Prince of Antioch is a title that functions similar to the British Prince of Wales.

His third son Josiah has inherited the title Duke of Damascus, the Emperor's title before he became Emperor.

His second son was skipped in this reckoning because he was made King Alexander of Gallia, the kingdom formed in Europe. (Resplendent France)

I'm curious as to how Queen Matilda will react to Princess Matilda. On the one hand the Queen is a devout, militant Catholic, the CE mastermind, greeting her daughter, pregnant out of wedlock with the Patruan Prince, having spent the whole war in Patrua. On the other hand, the Queen is a woman who has just been through hell, and Matilda is one of her only remaining children.

OOC: Now, I have hinted in a post (which is to do with Pope Emmanuel I) that he had hitched another plan which he failed to realise because he died.

However, Queen Matilda was like a daughter to Pope Emmanuel I and would've done all she could to carry on his wishes - everything.

As her daughter, I expect, and will RP, that Queen Matilda will be most loving to her daughter - in her eyes she is the only one left to rebuild the family (along with Cardinal Benedict and her grand-nephew, the baby Prince August).

The air base had been a bustling microcosm. Hectic traffic of assorted military vehicles and aircraft were standing or passing as if the war was still going on. But it wasn’t. For Patrua, the war had stopped the moment news reached command that one of the participants had fired a nuke into Catholic Europe’s heart. The scurrying activity had mostly to do with the withdrawal of troops and equipment back to the Empire. The base near Antioch had been given by the Resplendent Dawn authorities to the Imperial Patruan Air Force’s 42nd Fighter Wing and 262nd Combat Support Squadron for the duration of the war. Now, it was a pivotal link in the massive return home.

That morning, it was even busier than usual. A special flight would be coming in. Class-A material from the Imperial Palace. Runway A1 was closed off to all other traffic. Several guys from the Imperial Guard had arrived last night, together with an EA-80 transport plane carrying a limousine, and had put a safety perimeter in effect. Getting anywhere close to Runway A-1 had just become impossible. Some non-military guys were walking around though. NISA no doubt. Areas not pertaining to the air base but that were in the landing flight path of the plane, had received visits from canvassing security personnel too. Some had to evacuate their houses for the morning others got a sniper visiting their roof.

The actual arrival happened faster than one would have thought judging by the preparations. Escorting planes first started circling the air and then the Imperial A340-600 came and touched down, immediately to be surrounded by legionaries, jeeps and even a Cobra. Mobile stairs were driven to the door which upon opening started to fount bodyguards and NISA agents. The limousine drove to the foot of the stairs where apart from Patruan security forces, a man was standing clearly not belonging to them. He was a representative of the Resplendent Dawn government, sent to welcome the high-profile passenger. When the passenger finally appeared at the hatch, it was a bit of an anti-climax. The frail lady with a protruding belly was dressed completely in black and wore a veil, a clothing style she hadn’t been able to abandon for so long, far longer than her worst nightmares could have predicted. In spite of what the initial image could have told, she kept her proud and upright pose and walked with royal and maternal dignity down the stairs. Few words were exchanged with the Resplendent Dawn diplomat, whom her aide received some documents from, after which she took a seat in the limousine. The motorcade –mostly military except for the stretch- then drove at high speed out of the airport towards Antioch.

The streets had been vacated prior to the arrival, to minimize safety lapses and legionaries stood alongside the route to keep Resplendent Dawn civilians from climbing over or moving the steel fences that had been put along the sidewalks. Still euphoric with the victory bulletin, the Dawn citizens kept giving flowers and pouring orange blossom water over the soldier’s hands. Girls kissed them and various citizens insisted to having their picture taken with the soldiers. Curious as they were to why the steel fences had been put, they lined up at them and awaited, meanwhile attempting to socialize with the Patruan grunts. Charmed though as they were, the latter were declining the offers, flowers and picture requests, concentrating on the job at hand.

When finally, the motorcade rushed by, the excited civilians cheered and threw flowers again. The limousine after all, had two little flags on the hood, just above the headlights. One of them, few would know as it was the coat-of-arms of the Patruan Imperial Family, but they recognized the other one all too well. The Patruan flag showed that whoever was traveling in the stretch must have been someone worth cheering for. Especially if they got an escort of the brave Patruan soldiers. Maybe even, it was the Emperor himself behind those tinted windows. Little did they know, and if they had , they certainly would not have been as cheerful. Princess Matilda was Catholic European, the hateful people that had caused them so much suffering.

The motorcade pulled up the small paved entry that was closed of by a road bar and spikes. To the sides a barbed-wired fence ran along the road as far as they eye could see. From out of a small concrete building, a Resplendent Dawn sentry walked to the jeep that was the first in the motorcade. The driver gave a small note and said something, after which the guard went back into his building. While the road bar went up, he came out, nodded and gave the note back. He saluted to the driver who did likewise and drove in towards the larger compound in the middle of the terrain demarcated by the fence, followed by the rest of the motorcade. The sign they entered under read "Fort Dimitris - RD Military Prison".

Her Majesty had gone inside, and the limousine and the other military vehicles waited outside the central compound. The legionaries and the driver could take a break until Her Highness would leave again and so they lighted their cigarettes and chatted with the Resplendent Dawn guard who was happy too that he finally had some diversion. Princess Matilda, Her aide, bodyguards, some military escorts and a NISA agent went inside. Her Majesty wanted to see Her mother again, before it was too late.

For all her life Queen Matilda had been in control of things - her children, her servants and most importantly herself. Now all had changed and her fate rested solely in the hands of God, whom she had tried to serve so piously throughout her long life.

As she sat in a cold castle room, although clad with the things she needed, she realised just what had happened. She had been used to the highest reception. She had been, for a long time, the most important living woman in Catholic Europe. The mother of three Popes, mother of Kings and grandmother to the most important men - Emperors and Popes. She had lived in complete luxury. Her rooms were covered in the finest of fabrics, she had servants to deal with her every need and desire.

Now, in a foreign and very hostile land, one that she had been so close to adding to her list, she sat alone, isolated, in a cold and hard room. The clothes she wore, a white and gold veil of her regal status and purity, and a set of platinum rosary beads were all that remained to her name. But she was in exalted company, a Pope of her own flesh and blood amongst them.

She sat there, on the end of her hard and itchy bed and begin to pray. She slowly lowered herself onto her knees and began the rosary. Prayer was all could she manage now for, it would seem, the end would be bleak and unjust. Her whole lifes work, ambitions and desire. A plan handed down to her would now cost her her life and she must pray fervently for forgiveness.

As she knelt there deep in prayer, she thought back to her wedding day. A young girl of 15, she had been beautiful, strong and determined. The world lay at her feet, her prospects would only be limited by God - but it seemed God had limited them in the most shocking of ways.

Now, in her early 80's and having suffered the biggest crisis in her life, the end seemed to be near. And although it may be painful she was prepared to leave thi life and enter the next. She had grown to old to carry on fighting, to persist in her plans. She had been humbled.

Princess Matilda walked though the cold, neon-lit concrete hallway. Here and there there signs were applied to the walls and on the ceiling and on the wall, tubes of all kinds ran the length of corridor. They were the only colours in the otherwise grim palette. The Resplendent Dawn Lieutenant and his deputy walked in front of them and behind them, another two soldiers. Princess Matilda and her aide, her four bodyguards, the NISA agent and another four Patruan legionaries, none of them spoke. The only sound was the echoing cold tapping of their footsteps. They turned another corridor that ended in a gate, guarded by three RD soldiers. The highest in rank saluted the Lieutenant, who reciprocated the salute and gave the order to open the gate.

"Visitors for Queen Matilda. Open the gate."

The Corporal had a look at the security clearance code the Lieutenant gave him. He watched at the company in front of him and pointed towards the four legionaries.

"Sure, but the I'm afraid the soldiers have to stay behind."

The Lieutenant looked to the Patruans and opened his mouth to apologize to the visitors but Princess Matilda raised her hand and mumbled.

"It's okay. They will stay here."

The soldiers gave the Corporal an angry look and provocatively kept staring at him. They came to save their puny nation and this is their reward? Some cocky idiot that bosses them around? Grudgingly they sat themselves down on a long bench at the wall, still staring at the Corporal who started to feel uneasy and turned his back to the legionaries. The Resplendent Dawn soldiers that had followed the Patruan delegacy had to stay behind too. They relaxed a bit, put their guns down and sat down on the opposite bench.

The Princess was guided up some steel stairs by the Lieutenant. They stopped at another locked door guarded by another RD soldier. Meanwhile they had entered a level where some filtered sunlight shone through narrow window slits high up the walls. The door was unlocked and they walked into a small vestibule of which the walls were lined with benches. The Lieutenant spoke again.

"Your Highness, I am afraid I will have to ask your bodyguards and... this gentleman here..."

He nodded to the NISA agent who looked to him from behind dark sunglasses.

"... either to remain here or hand over their weapons."

For the first time, the NISA agent spoke. An icy voice clean and clear, nicely articulated and devoid of any dialect.

"I do not have to, Lieutenant Christopoulos. I have a Class-Six clearance."

He handed the dazzled Lieutenant a brown envelope. The Lieutenant clearly was a bit dumbfounded as to how the man knew his name and to what he said. Class-Six was something that normally could be authorized only by the highest echelons of the Resplendent Dawn secret service. He took the envelope and opened it. The document checked out. The Lieutenant was puzzled but had to let the man through.

"Uh... Enjoy your visit, Sir."

The bodyguards went outside again. The aide was excused by Her Majesty too. She looked at the NISA agent.

"Dear Sir, I beg you. I would highly appreciate it if I could spend the little time with my mother the Queen in private. Without the prying eyes of your agency."

The man replied quick, clean and icy as before without even the slightest sign of compassion.

"I have my orders, Your Majesty. Rest assured that Your Majesty can speak freely."

Princess Matilda sighed. It was the best she could get apparently. She nodded to the Lieutenant who unlocked the door and opened it. Her heart skipped a beat when she finally saw her mother. Overmanned by joy and sadness at the same time, she burst into tears and ran in.

OOC.
Jamie, you wanna do the conversation? Don't mind the NISA guy, he won't intervene in any way.

The door opened. Queen Matilda knelt there, not moving. It was probably of no real importance and so she would continue in her prayers. But, unlike before, she heard the clicking of heels on a hard and cold stone floor. However, she remained steadfast, determined to not be put off by the enemy during the Holy Rosary.

Princess Matilda walked slowly in. Her first sight of her mother in ages was one that she wanted to hold onto forever, as it was likely her mother may not live for much longer. Before her eyes an elderly woman, but a determined and strong woman, knelt deep in prayer. Just like her, she was covered in a long dress and veil, a mantilla shrouding her face although her mother was dressed in white and gold. Princess Matilda walked across the stone floor. Her shoes clicking, but this did not make her mother look. Finally, she plucked up the courage and broke the silence.

[PM]"Mamma. It's me, your daughter."

Queen matilda stopped her prayer. She remained silent for a few seconds and then gave a cold and callous reply.

[QM]"I have no daughter. They have all died tragic and sad deaths. ALL of them."

Princess Matilda was shocked and horrified to to hear this. She fought back tears. The NISA agent went to comfort her but she hit his arm and ordered him to sit in the corner, away from her and her mother.

[PM]"Dearest Mamma. Please don't ignore me. I beg you. Acknowledge me please. I beseech you. I am your only hope. I am the only person able to continue our once great and glorious family. I carry the sole survivor."

With this Queen Matilda stopped all prayer. She could no longer ignore her daughter, her eldest daughter. Slowly, she moved her head. She must not appear to be eager for that would not show the anger that she felt. Slowly, she raised her head. Her eyes pearing upwards to her daughter. The black mantilla slowly fell away from her face showing the glare of an angry woman. Her deep brown eyes transfixed on her rebellious daughter. But she something which she did not expect or even know about.

[QM]"You are pregnant."

[PM]"Yes Mamma. I am. That is why I have come to see you. I have changed. I have become a mother and, after the evil that attacked our family and now faces the las remaining few, I have seen the errors of my ways and I come to save you."

Queen Matilda called the NISA guy to help her up. He came over and picked her up slowly. She was no longer as fit as she used to be. She sat down on the foot of her bed. Her daughter remained standing whilst the NISA agent brought a chair over to her. She sat down facing her mother. The NISA agent went back to the corner.

[QM]"I was so angry at you. You shamed the whole family. You knew all along that he was not suitable. He is not even Catholic. And now you are pregnant. I hope that your child will be brought up as a traditional Catholic for you have shamed this family enough. If your Papa was alive he would have never allowed this to happen.....which is why I was chosen not him."

[PM]"Huh. I am confused Mamma. What do you mean? Of course my child will be brought up as a Catholic"

[QM]"Your Papa, my beautiful husband, was too small thinking. He allowed things to get in the way of the more important ideals. The Holy Father, Pope St. Emmanuel I knew this. I, however, was not like your Papa. And, like the great man he was, Pope St. Emmanuel I knew that also.

The most important thing was for us to ensure the region came under the control of Catholic power. That was to be achieved by any means, even marrying heretics, blasphemers or infidels. Your Papa was not able to see the wider picture. He could not allow his children to marry non-Catholics. That attitude would never ensure a Catholic region. That is why I was confided in. That is why Pope St. Emmanuel I chose me."

[PM]"Mamma, I am confused. I don't understand. What about Amadeo. He married Maryam and she was a heretic"

[QM]"No, your brother was very lucky. Maryam converted to Catholicism before the marriage and thus your Papa could accept it. However, that would never happen with a Patruan. And that is why I was needed. I would allow a mixed-marriage, unlike your Papa in order to ensure a Catholic succession. We have planned all along for you to fall in love with Gravir. If we had really disapproved it would have been more than easy for me to stop the relationship - think of your brother Leopold."

Princess Matilda grew slightly uncomfortable at the mention of her rebellious brother. He had died mysteriously after marrying a commoner. No one has ever found out what happened to him.

[PM]"Are you saying I was a pawn? That my relationship with Gravir is what was planned all along. That my baby is what you have wanted?"

[QM]"Yes. You must realise that. You must ensure that your child becomes ruler, becomes Emperor."

[PM]"I can not do that. Gravir is too far from the throne."

[QM]"That is rubbish. Think of the wider picture. Marriage. Do you promise me, on my deathbed for I will not live too long, that you have changed. That you have come to save our family after you deserted it. For the blood needs saving if we are to rule in Gods Glory."

[PM]"Mamma, I swear to the Blessed Virgin Mary that as a daughter to her and to you I will do everything to further the Holy Cause. But you will be at my side. You will help me and I will not fail."

[QM]"Thankyou my daughter. I knew that you would never fail us. I will pray for when I am in Heaven. I will pray for your child for the ned is near for me"

[PM]"No, Mamma. I have coem to tell you that their is hope. You can survive alive. The Emperor will grant you exile in Patrua. You can live and help me in this cause."

[QM]"No. I must die honourably. This must be the end. I can no longer help you. I am an old woman and must pay for my sins, as we all must do one day. I can not stay in this world. I must be in the next."

Princess Matilda grabbed her mothers hands. She ebnt her head down and began to sob.

[QM]"Do not cry my daughter. You are our only hope left. Along with your cousin, Benedict, and the baby August, you must make sure that Catholic Europe stands up again. That it is not humiliated ever again. And, most importantly, you are the only one of whom the ancient blood truly flows. You are the only one who can ensure that we do not die out, that our family will live on. Promise me that you will do that."

[PM]"Mamma, I promise."

[QM]"Good. Now go. Do not come to watch me die, for it will not aide you in any way. Refrain from seeing your last family members have their lives ended by the enemy. You must not tempt Lucifer for Satan will give everything to destroy us and he has nearly succeeded."

With that Quuen Matilda motioned to the NISA agent to come and take her daughter away. Princess Matilda, still sobbing was held up and helped out of the room. The door was shut and Quuen Matilda was by herself again.

[QM]"Do not fail me my daughter. You are our only hope"

Interesting conversation, and somewhat disturbing. Her love life, her rebellion manipulated by puppeteers, very creepy and tragic. And their plans for Patrua! Will Prince Gravir have a problem with the kid being raised Catholic, I wonder?

He won't. I don't know what image you have gotten of Patrua, but it is secular. That means that religion has no place in politics but otherwise, people are free to profess whatever belief they want as long as they do not harass others with it (Constitution, Article 28). So Gravir nor anyone else will try to stop them. The Imperial Family has a Shadaist tradition but there have been Copts and Muslims members too.

Oh, I realize fully that Patrua is secular. I was wondering if the Prince would have wanted his child raised Shadaist or something, or maybe given exposure to both traditions. Whether he as going to let Matilda do her thing in that regard, or whether he would want some input in that matter.

His problem is that He's stuck in the army for five years doing His military service. By the time He'll get to spend more time with His kid, it'll be 4-5 years old. Princess Matilda will have a head-start. Taken together with the fact that afterwards too, the mother will be spending most time with the kid, there's a good chance that the Prince's requests will not have the necessary opportunity to have an impact. It will have a hard time at school learning about evolution theory and stuff, but after hours, you're allowed to do whatever you want and with the religious portion of the younger school-going population, that means private education about their specific religion.

The atmosphere on the luxurious and custom-built Imperial plane was none too good. The Princess had withdrawn to the Imperial Quarters whence sobs could be heard. To see Her mother one last time, so determined to suffer Her faith had been heartbreaking. The cold and distant NISA agent sat in one of the compartiments on the comfortable lower deck that was preserved for the travelling entourage. Two of the legionnaires were playing cards with two of the bodyguards. The other two soldiers were taking a nap. These were Imperial Guard, they were here to protect Her Majesty and would do so day and night. They had the night shift. Same went for the bodyguards. One of them was sleeping in the bunks of the personnel sleeping compartiment in the front while the other was guarding the door of the Imperial Quarters. Her aide sat nearby, waiting for Her Highness to allow her back in. The NISA agent sat isolated from the rest. He hadn't spoken to either of them. Barkas, one of the Imperial Guard soldiers had provoked him once into saying something after they'd arrived in the Resplendent Dawn. "Look, we must've picked up a raven during the flight." He had said. The agent was wearing a black suit and black glasses. Like many Patruans, he also had black hair. The guys had laughed with the joke. Until the agent replied, that was. "Funny, private Barkas," He had said "And I was amazed you managed not to wet your pants during the flight." Only few of the guys knew that Barkas, when he was a kid used to wet his bed. Up until he was nine. He didn't speak about it a lot. He had once confided in them during a 48-hour safety operation when all of them had sat together and told each other confidential stuff. How this guy knew, was a mystery but it did spoil the fun.

So, the fun was over and tension hung in the air during the rest of the trip. No one liked the NISA guy and it seemed to be likewise the other way around. The table where the agent sat was filled with stuff. A laptop to start with, but also two tiny cameras he had gotten out of his sunglasses and tie; a small microphone that had emerged from his button and a small recording device which had been in his pocket. He had linked the latter to his lap-top and was busy typing stuff. These NISA guys always gave everybody the creeps.

Meanwhile, in the lavish private Imperial Quarters, Princess Matilda had stopped praying. She had started the rosary because it helped Her focus instead of losing herself in endless sadness. She prayed for Her mother's well-being and painless ascension to heaven. She prayed for Her child and prayed for strength. Strength that had constantly been drained out of Her ever She fled to Patrua. Now it seemed She had been nothing more than a puppet of Her mother. She had broken with Her family which She had never seen again because Her mother had planned so.

She was confused by the mixed feelings Sadness for the inevitable loss of a mother, but also because of Her mother's betrayal. Anger because of this abuse and because of all She had lost in going along with it. Her mother's words kept resonating through Her head:

"... you are the only one of whom the ancient blood truly flows. You are the only one who can ensure that we do not die out, that our family will live on. Promise me that you will do that."

She put away the rosary. The typical Royal Rosary all members of the South Kingdom once had. Soon, She would be the only one left. Exhausted from the emotional turmoil and hypnoyized by the gentle hum of the plane, Princess Matilda finally fell asleep on the large bed.

OOC: Well, I'm glad you all liked my post. I wasn't exactly sure how to write because there were a few issues that I needed to bring up in the post. But, I hope, I got the basic message across in it. And, having finished being cryptic I can reveal what Pope Emmanuel I's 3rd plan was.

As I wrote, all those months ago when I got rid of him, he did have a third plan which he had not lived to see out - basically that was for Matilda and Gravir to produce Catholic children in the Patruan Royal Family and bring them to the throne. Now, whilst they may not have intended for them to fall in love (that could've been genuine) they quickly recognised the opportunity that was now in front of them and grabbed it by both hands. Firmly.

That was the basic message that I wanted to get across. Also I wanted to resonate the importance that Matilda will be the 'only one left'. Her, her child, Cardinal Benedict and three year old Prince August are the only Catholic European Royals left. Benedict will become Pope and so he won't have any children and August is far too young at the moment. Thus, it brings home to Matilda the importance of continuing the family line - because, effectively she is the only one who can do it.

What will the Papacy do?

With the massacre of virtually all of the Royal Family of Catholic Europe there remains, at present, only 4 people alive of the Blood Royal - Pope Benedict XVII, Queen Matilda, Prince August and Princess Matilda (although Her Royal Highness is pregnant). This poses a major problem for the Papacy indeed.

Papal rules were changed by Pope Cristiano V meaning that the Papal successor has to be of Royal Blood. This was fine as the Royal Family exploded in size and there were plenty of males to choose from. However, with the death of almost all the members of the Royal Family, there now remains only two males alive - and one of them is already the Pope.

This poses a constitutional problem. If Prince August, the only male alive, is named as Papal heir then there will be no issue from him - meaning there will be no future Popes.

It all rests on Princess Matilda producing a son. However, she is old and one son may not be enough to guarantee that the Papacy does not become permanently sede vacante. If she has daughters then the problem will come all too soon as Prince August would be compelled to join the Church - the end of his papal reign would signal the death of the Papacy.

The Pope, Pope Benedict XVII, must now figure out whether a 226 year old tradition must be scrapped as the last of the Family blood dries up or if a miracle can be found to this terrible problem.

--- A Patrua Press Agency Release ---

The Herald

IT'S A BOY!

Caputa (PPA)
Princess Matilda has given birth. After a complicated 18 hours of labour, the doctors at the Imperial Military Hospital in Caputa witnessed the first little cries of a baby Prince. A short briefing afterwards, they said a caesarian had been necessary but that both mother and child were in good condition.

The hospital lobby was bustling with press and security personnel since Tuesday morning, when Princess Matilda, highly pregnant, did not show at Saint Mary's Cathedral in Zephyros but was spotted in an Imperial motorcade racing on the Caputa Outer Ringway. The hospital, also filled with wounded from the recently ended War of Succession, became an instant hotspot for the international press. His Majestic Highness, the Glorious Prince of Patrua, Prince Gravir was granted leave from the Imperial Military Academy in Zephyros and was ferried in by helicopter. In retrospect, no such stunt had been needed for they were only contractions. Since yesterday evening, the final contractions had started and according to Major Samali, the Doctor that performed the birth, "Her Majesty’s condition was deemed too weak to successfully deliver and potentially put the baby at hazard." But he added, "Both baby and mother are in excellent condition and shall leave the hospital soon." The baby weighed a healthy 3250 grams and was fairly large at 54 centimeters. "A sizeable and healthy baby which contrasts markedly with the mother's condition."

That Princess Matilda is at present in a weakened condition is no surprise. From Her arrival in the Empire onwards, She was plagued one misfortune after another. First there was the criticism and family expulsion that followed Her flight to Patrua, then the horrendous War of Succession and its intricacies which lost Her all but three members of Her family and saw the grim face of war with many Catholic Europeans losing their lives ending in the unspeakable and gruesome nuclear explosion that tore Genesis City apart. With the Princess alone to bear Her grief, separated from Her shrinking family and His Beloved Majesty, the Glorious Prince of Patrua who is doing His military service. "It is no secret that Her Majesty has lived a stressful life." Samali admitted, "This has had its repercussions with regard to the delivery and the mother's current condition." Caesarians are known to imperil further childbirth with women. It remains to be seen whether the Imperial couple will indeed be arrested in possible future wishes.

The Glorious Prince shortly appeared with the baby, clearly moved. "It is truly the most beautiful gift a man and woman can get. The wonder of new life is a very emotional experience and some badly needed good news after the painful sequence of events the mother has gone through." When asked whether the young Prince had been given a name, His Exquisite Majesty said "We have decided on 'Gravir', after myself and my Godfather." The name is official, although the baby will be baptized before the Imperial parents will report it to the authorities - a concession to the Princess' Catholic upbringing.

OOC.

I was torn between two personal messages from you. One said she was "to have one child, a boy named Gravir." The other one said I could "choose at random and do as much as flip a coin." So I decided to take the middle road, I flipped a coin with heads for boy (a 2 euro coin from France) and as it turned out heads, I decided to go along with the Gravir thing for the coin proved it was his destiny.

Ooo! I like it lol! Now, I just need to work out what this means for the Papacy and Catholic Europe. This little boy will likely have a very big impact on Catholic Europe.

A Royal Saint

Despite her recent death, and doing away with tradition, Pope Benedict XVII has made his grandmother, Queen Matilda, a saint.

Numerous people, especially those affected by the nuclear bomb in Genesis City have claimed that praying to her afte her martyrdom has cured them of terrible illnesses and diseases which have arisen from the radioactive fallout from the bomb.

She had already been claimed Blessed, for her martyrdom, and the Church actively sought out two miracles for her to be canonized. They did not have to search for long. A young boy of 5, apparently cured of cancer, and an elderly woman, who was also cured of cancer, were chosen as the two miracles necessary for the Queen's canonization.

Her cult is expected to be extremely popular throughout Catholic Europe for she was an extremely popular woman. An order of monks and nuns, dedicated to her, has already been set up and schools are being renamed after her, especially in areas which were devastated by the War.

Her official name will now be St. Queen Matilda.

Patriarch Photios snickered. How could that woman Matilda, who did the evil one's work until her death, be a saint? Does saint even mean anything to the Latins anymore, he thought to himself.

Lol! Well, secretly, I think Pope Benedict XVII canonized her to make a point to the world. Although, that's not to say that people who have prayed to her have been cured.

PRINCE OR PRIEST?

Prince Gravir the Younger is just a boy still, but His destiny is already being plotted. As goes the tradition in Catholic Europe, the first-born son often is poised for a clerical career. However that would mean that little Gravir will not be marrying or perpetuating the line of the third son of the Imperial crown. Additionally, the Empire demands that all males, without exception, fulfill their military service first. Without exemption for the clergy, Prince Gravir the Younger can expect His five years in. Not only is the little Excellency facing these two arduous paths so soon in life, He is also at the epicentre of a fierce debate at the 3rd Catholic Coucil, currently going on in Catholic Europe to decide on the succession of the bishop of Rome. Two candidates are in competition, with Prince August slightly in the lead, having the favour of most Catholic Europeans for his being of pure Catholic European blood. Prince Gravir's mixed heritage is a strong disadvantage, but He enjoys closer lineage to the former bishop of Rome and direct descent from Saint Queen Matilda. Cardinal August has been a strong advocate for Prince Gravir's candidacy, but he faces stiff opposition by the Catholic European cardinals while the other foreign cardinals put forward their own candidates or opt for a return to the conclaves. We still have some time before the child Prince turns an adult age and fulfills His military duty but the schools He will be attending shall point out which career has been laid out for them.

A Royal Engagement

Saving the dynasty

With the serious concerns about the Papal Succession and the imminent death of the Blood Royal, Pope Benedict XVII today announced that his cousin, the 15 year old Prince August, great-grandson of Saint Queen Matilda, has been betrothed to Princess Kasia of Poland, also 15 years old.

It is thought that the Holy Father, extremely concerned with the Papal succession crisis, was in correspondance with King Kazimerz II of Poland, and decided to arrange the marriage between Prince August and Princess Kasia after His Majesty agreed to it.

This, however, raises a number of questions and anxieties about the future for Catholic Europe, the Papacy and the Church as a whole. The fact that Prince August has been practically written out of ever becoming Pope, for he can not be Pope and married, means that the baby Prince Gravir of Patrua is the only eligible person, in the entire world, to succeed Pope Benedict XVII.

This is bound to be a sore issue for Catholic Europeans but Pope Benedict XVII is aware that if God wills it he could die tomorrow or in a few years time and if Prince August had been chosen to succeed the Holy Father then the line would die out with Prince Gravir as Pope and the Church would descend into anarchy.

However, by marrying off Prince August there is a chance that a number of heirs can be produced, ensuring the continuation of the Papacy and the Blood Royal.

OOC: Patrua, both prince Gravir and Prince August are direct descendants of Saint Queen Matilda. The only difference is that Prince Gravir is a grandson whilst Prince August is a great-grandson.

I know, but this was an article by Celeb Magazine, which is more tabloid-like and not part of the PPA unlike The Herald... They don't explicitly deny that Prince August is a direct descendant, they just selectively omit. Populist way of writing, that's all ;)
