Salamae has never been known for its military prowess. Out of a population of nearly 5 million, only 12,000 citizens are on active military duty. Half of the armed forces are centered in the capital city of Al-Saucisson; the other 6,000 are divided up amongst several small military outposts across the country and near borders. Patrols are usually done on motorcycles but may be done on horseback in some more rural and far-flung areas. Another 12,000 citizens are on military reserve and can be called up if necessary. The Salami military dress uniform is a khaki color with gold epaulettes and black knee-boots. Salami soldiers are all issued an honorary (yet fully functional) shamshir sword which they may wear in public after their military service is over as a badge of honor. Knowing all too well their limited numbers, the Salami military relies heavily on landmines and mine fields. Salamae is not party to any UN landmine treaties and will not be for the forseeable future. |
