The fledgling Commonwealth of Desert Lands wishes to make its entry into the military side of Middle Eastern relations known. Our army is comprised thusly: 10,000 M1A2 Abrams tanks 700 F-16 fighter jets 200 F-15E fighter jets 5,434 M16 rifles (to be issued to 5,434 servicemen, both infantry and support) The military budget for the Commonwealth of Desert lands is $344,746,908,000, making up 31% of the national budget, and 9.6% of the GDP. |

<_< Newbie I presume? This is not a realistic army, please tone it down to acceptable proportions. Don't come to tell us about how the stuff mentioned can be bought with the budget of the calculator. The calculator clearly says Enough for: which means the equivalent. But it does NOT deal with maintenance, wages, oil, gas, ammunition, food, infrastructure, communications, electricity bills, logistics, training,... It is assumed that in times of peace, not to affect the economy, up to 0.5% of your population can serve in the army. Why? Because your 172,000,000 inhabitants are not all fit young men in the bloom of their life. There are children, women, disabled, elderly,... And still you'd need to have enough left to keep your 'thriving' economy going... You can have at most 860.000 men in your army. And don't forget that as a rule of thumb, for each fighting soldier (and I'm even not talking about ships, tanks and planes (!), you need at least 5 people employed in logistics. A RL nation like China, boasting over a billion inhabitants doesn't even have an army your size. Don't come and tell us that your puny nation's forces would outnumber theirs. So please, revise this army or face moderator intervention in your post. Thank you. |

The numbers may seem a tad high. However, military service is compulsory, and even those not physically able to be in the fighting force are armed support staff. |

If all those physically able serve in the army and even those not physically able in support roles, how does your economy keep going? Without a workforce, no economy (even a war economy is only sustainable for 50 years or so without severe repercussions; look at North Korea), without an economy no subsistence (without foreign aid), without subsistence, no workforce... and no army. The 0.5% was including compulsory military service. In real life, it would be more around 0.1%. You'd still need to lower the amount of tanks and planes and increase the number of infantry. You probably don't know a lot about strategy but even a force of 10,000 Abrams tanks is easily defeated without other armor/infantry support. |
