Providence psych0ruins A gust of wind had been blowing for six days now, seemingly eternally sweeping the black plains of the quiet planet. The ebony ground of said planet seemed to be of a dark sand, as the wind stirred up clouds of the sand that rose into the air like charred phantoms before again settling. The flat nature of the planet led for there to be nothing that would stop the wind in its endless parade across the strange desert. It might have gone on forever, billowing until one day the star the planet orbited consumed it in a great cataclysm of fire. But incineration was not what ended the wind’s journey- it found respite against a pillar. It seemed made of the same stuff of the ground, but perhaps hardened into a more sturdy form. It held the same black color. It was of a simple cylindrical shape, with a square base on its top and bottom. The pedestal was about ten feet tall. A being twice that height approached the pillar now. His skin, although black, was not of the same complexion of the soil. His bright red robes also stood out on the dark planet, like a drop of blood in a tanker of crude oil. His singular, burning white eye also spoke of a foreign nature. The man was a visitor, not a denizen. Although he had not be given this name, and would not be given this name for hundreds of years, he is known to some as Providence. Monsoon Providence walked towards the pillar. He had been walking for a few days now- although it didn’t feel as if it was long to Providence. His lifespan was that of millions of years. He would grow to watch stars die and civilizations fall. Time was not of much concern to him. This pillar was the first thing that he had found in his wanderings. The first sign of life on the planet. Or, at least, something of notice. On the pillar rested an orb, fitting perfectly on the surface of the pillar. It was a dull red, reflective in nature. Providence took a few moments to observe it, gazing into the artifact’s surface. With a tentative hand, he reached down and grasped the sphere in one hand. Upon being lifted from its place of rest, its surface lit up and released a brilliant red light, as if it were a beacon. A hole in the fabric of the universe was cut, and from it spilled odd creatures. A large, black being of a somewhat circular form. It had thin legs that ended in dull points, although it didn’t need them. It floated above the ground. Its arms were strong, with claws that looked as if they could rip open feet of titanium. From its head protruded two tentacles, and purple eyes adorned its body in various places- the most notable of which was the largest, center eye. This was trained on Providence now, filled with malice. Three smaller beings accompanied the creature, which bared resemblance to it- minus the tentacles and the extra eyes. Providence put the orb down, but they did not back off. It appeared there was simply not way of solving this peacefully. Providence drew his sword. Hailstorm One of the smaller beings, which we call Imps, flung itself at Providence. One quick flick of the wrist sliced through the Imp with almost no effort, disintegrating it into black sand which drifted to the ground. Providence raised a hand, causing compressed blasts of energy to dispatch the other two smaller beings. No sooner than the last one went down, however, did the still-standing portal vomit another one. But Providence didn’t have time for that, as the largest Imp, the Imp Vanguard, hurtled towards him. He quickly teleported out of the way of the beast as its hand swiped empty air. To Providence’s surprise, however, it followed him with some teleportation of its own. It took a swing at Providence, who had been preoccupied trying to blast the Imp Vanguard with the same energy he had killed its two minions with. The beast’s blow connected with him, but it would be its last act. Providence cut deep into its flesh over and over with a series of fast and brutal strikes. The being quickly let out an ungodly screech and disintegrated like the others. The portal closed after spitting out another smaller Imp. This just left Providence with two minuscule Imps to deal with. He dispatched them both with one wide sword swing. Providence had seen enough at this point. In a small burst of light, he teleported away. |
