I feel your pain Ford. That's why I'm only getting a two year Chem degree and switching to Econ as my four year one. Chem sucks after a while and there's little money in it anyway. |

I FUCKING LOVE COLLEGE DON'T YOU LOVE COLLEGE WHY DON'T YOU LOVE COLLEGE *vomits exorbitant textbook prices and pointless classes that will never do you any good like the moment you sign up for them you know "GEE WIZ, THIS IS MONEY WASTED!" and all semester you just want it to be over but that break from college won't save you because college is always there* the moment I started college I pre-emptively gave up and accepted my fate as an English major I just don't hate myself enough to try and get any other degree that actually may matter |

I dropped out of college and regret it, but at the same time, it's not like anything I learn or any degree I get will actually translate into anything of major value. Every job in the world is pure shit, whether you're a CEO of some big company or a motherfucking janitor. All I want is money without effort. But seeing as how that's not an option, I guess I have to learn something to make myself valuable. But learning is fucking lame when it's required. |

I'd be willing to wager that being a CEO is a lot better than being a janitor. Though I'm an administrator and a gardener at my job and I love every minute of it. Real talk, I sincerely think some of you guys should consider seeing a therapist for depression. There's been a lot of negativity coming from you guys who've usually been pretty upbeat in spite of everything else. I say this from the perspective of a guy who finally decided to do something productive about his clinical depression and oh my god wellbutrin is the a gift from the baby jesus. |

Being a CEO is a lot better than being a janitor from a monetary perspective. But the actual work part of it seems just as shitty as cleaning up literal shit. I went to someone a few years ago and even took medication briefly, but I didn't think either of them did anything worthwhile (though my parents disagreed). So I stopped both. I could very well be depressed, but I don't really know. I can think of a few reasons why I would be, but I can also think of other reasons why I wouldn't. I think if I were to guess, then I'd say yeah, I'm probably depressed. I've certainly got some issues at the very least. In the end, I'm ignorant though. I don't really know what depression is all about. I'm not qualified to diagnose myself. |

There's not really a reason to not see a therapist if you're showing symptoms in the first place. Hell, just having someone to talk to the heavier stuff that you might feel weird about telling other people is a big stress reliever. Not that psychologists and medication aren't awesome as well, but therapists aren't exclusively for people with mental illnesses. |

I dunno aboot TGG or Nobi, but I'm always like this. I don't think there's a major problem with either Nobi or myself most of the time, we just are different than "normal" people in terms of optimism and being upbeat. Different doesn't mean bad unless the person who feels and thinks that way either sees it a problem themselves or it interferes with them doing stuff like eating or working. Which I don't think it does. The meds try to "correct" that differentness to being like most people, when different doesn't mean bad. It just means different. Your default state doesn't have to be happiness all the time, it can be consigned contentment, or neutral. Most people probably get too caught up in what they think they should be doing/feeling or what other people are doing/feeling, rather than just doing what comes natural; so they take meds to try to come to this nonexistent ideal when they're really fine, experiencing the world as it is rather than a snake oil illusion. I also think being too happy makes you more oblivious to the truth about both yourself and external things that happen. It's probably just as bad as being extremely depressed in that regard. |

Berfer you sound like a 13 year old who's just starting their hollow teenage rebellion. Or Jaden Smith on Twitter. Same thing, really. Nobi if you think you're showing signs of depression or if you just want to talk to someone about your problems without worrying about feeling judged, I totally recommend seeing someone for this. There's no shame in having troubles, and like Hippo said therapy isn't just for people with illnesses. Sometimes you just need to get something off your chest. And it won't always be an instant fix. You may have to look around and try other therapists until you find someone you feel comfortable with. Feeling down all the time is no way to live, bro. |

The thing is, I haven't felt down in a long time. I take great pleasure in life even though I don't have the courage to make anything out of it. The fact that I haven't felt truly sad in a while is one of the main reasons I'm inclined to say I don't have depression. But like I said, there's something wrong. Just not sure what to label it. I still have no interest in seeing a therapist either way. Waste of money and time. |

Well depressive realism is a thing, to a certain extent at least. As are optimism bias, illusions of control, and illusory superiority. Generally, being too happy makes you see things as inaccurately as somebody extremely depressed in most situations. http://www.healthguidance.org/entry/15809/1/What-Is-Depressive-Realism.html Edited by lordberfer00, Jul 8 2015, 01:22:15 PM.
