And here my future teacher is giving me a god damned assignment before I even finish this year. Gotta do it by the first day of next school year. I gotta read like three novels and then do assignments about them. The assignments aren't much but god damn three novels? Granted I have three months but fuck. Anyways, there's a list of ones I can choose from. The ones that I'm sort of interested in I've bolded. A Farewell to Arms A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man As I Lay Dying Bleak House Ethan Frome Heart of Darkness Hedda Gabler Jude the Obscure The Awakening The Bell Jar The Memory Keeper's Daughter The Metamorphosis The Scarlet Letter The Stranger Reservation Blues Waiting for Godot Winesburg, Ohio On the paper the authors' names are also listed. The main ones I've instantly recognized are Ernest Hemmingway, Charles Dickens, and Nathaniel Hawthorne. Some sound familiar but they're not ringing a bell. I'll probably check out what the bolded ones are about before I choose but I figured there's a chance that some of you here read and might know some of these. Yup, never read any of those. Though I've heard The Scarlet Letter is utter crap, so avoid that like the plague. And Heart of Darkness is supposed to be the novel that Apocalypse Now was based off of. |

I had to read the Scarlet Letter for English. Avoid it and any other works by Nathaniel Hawthorne as if they were the key to triggering the apocalypse (which they very well might). It is complete and utter monotony the entire way through. |

Oh and I've read a single Charles Dickins book called Great Expectations. It was truly awful Don't know if his others are like that, but it's possible. |

Well I mean one of his first masks IS the Fluffy mask after all. That won't be its function, but hey. Also, I can't decide between the rest for a third one. |

I've never read "A Scarlett Letter" but I too heard it was terrible. The name of that book "As I Lay Dying" sounds interesting. Edited by Axem Red, May 23 2012, 03:17:34 PM.

Fuckin' AP classes, too many pointless rules for my tastes and things that you're supposed to think are important. Do what Nobi said and read "A Clockwork Orange", you won't regret it. Also, "Heart of Darkness", "A Farewell to Arms", and "As I Lay Dying" are my recommendations. That list of books isn't full of any really good ones though, just classics. For some really good books, I'd recommend: The Dark Tower The Divine Comedy One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest A Clockwork Orange At the Mountains of Madness The Stand La Principa Discordia Shadow over Innsmouth The Simarillion The Fountainhead Call of Cthulhu Rime of the Ancient Mariner (long poem, like the Divine Comedy) It is depressing when the supposedly advanced English class is full of prudes who read classics just for the sake of it, but that's how they keep their title. |
