I’m sure we’re all familiar with Pokemon here, so I won’t put up a summary.

Red will played by me (Sally) and Green by Tails. This RP is based primarily on game-verse of Pokemon (not the manga), in a sort of AU setting set a few years after the events of Pokemon R/B/Y. That means a few things:

1) The events of Pokemon G/S/C have transpired, making Green the Viridian City Gym Leader, and Red, the “Champion” of the Kanto region.
2) Since this RP is set does possess AU qualities, some aspects have changed. For instance, the Elite Four is composed of those present in R/B/Y games oppose to G/S/C. (Lorelei, Bruno, Agatha, and Lance instead of Will, Koga, Bruno, and Karen, with Lance as the Champion.) Yes, I am aware that Kanto and Johto “share” an Elite Four, but this is just how things are goin’ down here…
3) Yes, Red will talk. Why? Because it would things really complicated (for me) if he retained his “silent protagonist” role. Heh.
4) And, yes, it’s Green not Blue. Blue will be in reference to the female trainer, who looks like this → http://images2.fanpop.com/images/photos/7400000/Blue-chan-blue-pokemon-7447096-300-300.jpg Not that’s she popping up in here…

This is mainly being posted here because we’re too lazy to do so over AIM, lol. By the way, Tails, sorry for the meh title! XD
---

It wasn’t unusual for Green to close the Viridian gym for a few days and set off on his own. Staying in one place wasn’t his style. His challengers didn’t like it, but it wasn’t like Green cared much. Most of them would be to easy to beat and not give a thrilling battle.

This was why he decided to stop by the Indigo Plateau, where a certain rival of his might entertain him. Certainly not with conversations, but perhaps a battle, or a “hello.” It had been, after all, several months sense they had last seen each other, and that was when Green had passed on his title as Champion to Red.

The initial resentment from being beaten by his rival and loosing such a well praised title had worn off, and he was otherwise satisfied by being the Viridian gym leader.

Of course, as he stepped towards the doors of the Pokemon League, he wasn’t sure if Red would even be there. Perhaps he would be gone training. If so, Green would just come back another day.

Three months. It’s been three whole months since Red had officially become the Champion of the Kanto region. Three months since that rigorous battle against that arrogant rival of his, Green, for the top battle title in the land. One would think that he would’ve gotten used to the position by now. Or at least got over the initial shock of it. Just standing here, in the Indigo Plateau, was still an exhilarating experience for him.

He had been training here with his Pokemon for the past couple of hours, having defeated a hopeful challenger with relative ease. He didn’t want to sound condescending, but he wondered how the boy even made it past Lorelei. What type of trainer pits a Gengar against a Snorlax, anyway? That was just ridiculous! ‘Guess I can't reprimand him too bad. If he managed to defeat the Elite Four, then he had to have some talent.’

An image of Green suddenly infiltrated his head. Red smirked at the thought of him. As much of a royal jerk and narcissist he was, the black-haired male had to admit that he always did keep him on his toes. It was never a dull moment with him around. He hadn’t seen much of him since he knocked him out of his Champion role. What was he, the Viridian City Gym Leader? ‘That’s what mom said anyway...’

Without notice, Pikachu leapt into his arms, quirking his head up at its master curiously. “Pika?”

The young Champion chuckled, casting the electric mouse a sheepish grin. “Oh, sorry about that Pikachu. I got lost in my thoughts for a lil’ bit.” He placed him onto his shoulder. “We’re going to take a break, alright?”
Little did he know that he would soon be receiving an unexpected visitor…

Stepping through the doors of the Indigo Plateau felt somewhat the same as it did before, though he did not have the same goal in mind. It made him reminence, just a little, for sometimes it was hard to believe nearly six years ago his journey as a trainer began, and he had gotten so far.

The nurse at the Pokemon Center was treating some boys Pokemon. The trainer seemed rather put out, and Green imagined he had just lost to one of the Elite Four or even the Champion. Otherwise, the building seemed rather empty aside from the usual workers. Since he wasnt planning on having a profession battle, he crossed the room to what he recalled was a hallway to the individual Elite Four arenas. It was quite conveniant, he thought, for simple visits or the likes.

After greeting the guard who was standing by, he headed straight for final room where Red would be.

Heh. He supposed he probably should've been training outdoors instead of being cooped up in the building. Red couldn't help himself, though. This room was made for epic battles to take place in. He was the epitome of greatness Trainers all over the world aspired to be. Not everyone could call themselve a Champion.

Not an official one, anymore. Sure, the journey was long and rigorous, but it was just as virtuous and rewarding. Grinning, he removed his trademark cap momentarily to scratch at his messy, black hair. He chuckled, "I'm standing here reminiscing like an old man. I'm only seventeen, jeez."

Pikachu chuckled at his statement, purring against his cheek gleefully. It was then that the door suddenly slammed open, automatically causing the advanced Trainer to divert his hazel gaze toward that way. "Who is it now?" It wasn't the door that Trainers entered through for a battle... it was another hidden one. The one where other Elite Four members and visitors entered through. Although, what could anyone really have to say to him now? The media frenzy over his new role had been died down. Narrowing his gaze, he quirked his head in mild curiosity. Was it his mom again? "Who is it?"

"Just me," responded the spiky-haired Leader as he reveiled himself through the entrance. There was that usual vainness in his voice that definetly wouldn't go away around his rival. No matter how far up the top the other had gotten. He glanced around the room as he invited himself in, noting the various scars the floor and walls had accumulated from recent battles. It sure felt like an epic room, but then there was Red standing somewhere in the middle of it, looking a little out of place in Green's opinion. But perhaps he wasn't used to /not/ being a step ahead of the boy as he used to be.

"How's it going, Red?" He continued his greeting, sounding somewhat casual yet teasing.

A look of both amusement and annoyance graced the Champion's face at sight of his ol' Rival. Talk about irony. Wasn't he just thinkin' about him, or something? Meh, whatever. Red couldn't exactly say that glad or not so glad to see him. Sure, he had grown more tolerant of Green over the years, although he still held this... irritating quality about him.

"Heh. Long time no see," he smirked, placing his hands idly in his jean pockets. One would think as a young Trainer holding such a prestigious title, he would dress himself in more extravagant clothing. But, that wasn't really his style. "What do you want?" Surely, he didn't come all this way just to tease him. ...Did he?

Green studied the fellow Trainer, returning the grin with one of his own. He walked away from the door and closer to Red, for the sake of conversation. "There's not much else to do lately. Figured I'd stop by and, I dunno, bother you or something," he replied. He gazed down at Pikachu, wondering how much stronger the other boy's Pokemon could have gotten lately. Once you're best of the best, its hard to imagine there's still room for improvement.

"Nothing much to do?" Red inquired, raising a curious brow. "You're a Gym Leader. Shouldn't you be... I don't know battling challengers at the Gym or something?" Nowadays, as per the rules, anyone who wanted to challenge him had to get through the Elite Four. And knowing firsthand the brutality of all of those Trainers, especially battling them in immediate succession, wiped out a lot of his potential opponents.

Not that he complained. Most who made it to him offered him a fairly entertaining match-- even though they all lost in the end. That essentially left the capped boy with nothing to do, but enhance his Pokemon's strength. Pretty much what he was doing before. There was always room for improvement after all; perfection was inevitable. Red cast the spiky-haired male a flat look, crossing his arms over his chest. Pikachu remained silent, only casting the other boy a mere look.

"C'mon, Green, give me a break." He held up a Pokeball, twirling it around in his hands. "You've never been one for idle chatter. What do you really want?"

"That gym gets to stuffy sometimes," whined Green, almost instinctively pulling out a Pokeball from his belt. "So it'll be closed today. Or tomorrow. Or the next couple of days. Those Trainers can wait."

He glanced at the red and white ball, imagining the Pokemon inside eagerly expecting to come out. Indeed, he didnt come here to simple chat. Red generally wasnt one for that anyways, so why try? "But you're right. Why not battle? Its been a while."

The gym was too stuffy? What type of excuse was that? Trainers far and wide come to battle him, the last Gym Leader before having to come here and challenge the Elite Four and then himself, and he just closes the gym… essentially, for no reason? The boy’s flat look gradually evolved into one that expressed annoyance, having ceased twirling the Pokeball in his hand, instead grasping it tight in his hand.

“Still a pompous jerk, as usual,” Red scoffed as the electric mouse on his shoulder mimicked a similar action. The two were always in sync like that. “Some things never change I guess.” Then again, he couldn’t possibly have expected Green to have changed any, if at all, over a mere three months. Gosh, why had it seemed so much longer than that?

He quirked his head at his inquiry of a battle, his brow raised curiously. While he normally would have been enthusiastic at the prospect of battling his long-time rival, he couldn’t just jump into battles anymore. He was the Kanto League Champion. If anyone were going to get to him, they would have to go through the Elite Four first? However, did that rule apply to Gym Leaders as well? He couldn’t just waltz up here and demand for a battle, could he? Even if he –was- a former, albeit short-term, Champion.

Absent-mindedly adjusting the red and white baseball cap resting atop his head, he coughed, narrowing his gaze at the spiky-haired boy. “If you want to battle me, you’ll have to go back to the entrance and go through Lorelei to Lance. You know the routine.” As much as he loved battling, the last thing Red wanted to do was to lose his title over some silly, official rule.

Green chose to ignore the insult, simply shrugging it off as Red declined to immediately battle. He figured that problem may come up. With a slightly disapointed look on his face, he clipped the Pokeball back on his belt. "Hey, I'm not here to fight for you title," he explained. All though it would be a nice thing to claim back. Inwardly, he figured if he could beat Red in an informal match, perhaps he'd try it again through actual League rules. "Cant you, I dunno, say your going to take a break and battle me somewhere else?" He didn't remember being told he had to stay in those room all day, so why not?

He wasn’t too fazed by his disappointed look. If anything, he was glad that he wasn’t being teased for being a “wuss” or something else annoying for declining, albeit reluctantly, declining his challenge. He had to be real with himself. The last battle he had against Green was when he was battling him for the title as Champion. That battle alone was the toughest fight the seventeen-year-old had endured and won, despite his win being a narrow win. And even now, he was sure Green was still the only one, rather one of the few, who could go toe to toe with him in an intense, close-matched battle. Just thinking about made his body tremble in anticipation.

“Pika!” Pikachu exclaimed, casting its Trainer a confident smile. “Pika, Pika!”

Red chuckled. “Heh, you’re right Pikachu. It would be fun.” The ebony-haired boy turned his bemused gaze from the electric mouse to the male in front of him, that slight smirk returning to his features. “Alright, if you want a battle so bad. However, this is not an official match. Just a simple 3-on-3 match, first one to have all three Pokemon defeated, wins.”

The rules were decent enough, he thought. Red wasn’t much in the mood for a full 6-on-6 battle. That and he had just been training with his Pokemon for the past couple of hours. Nothing a quick Pokemon Center trip would fix, but still. He was positive that they itching for a raring battle just as he was.

The auburn-haired trainer nodded, the dissapointed look dissolving into one somewhat of eager excitement. It was all ways an interesting challenge battling Red, but that was why he considered him his rival, wasnt it?

He didn't imagine Red had changed his team much, or at all, and neither did he. Eager to get started, he walked to the challenger's side of the room. Turning on his heels to face the boy. "Works for me!" With a smirk, he added, "For a second I thought you'd try and chicken out on me."

“Heh,” the dark-haired boy chuckled, heading over to the opposite side of the room. Pulling out his PokeGear, of which he received from the Johto Region from Professor Oak, he texted the guards and the rest of the Elite Four to notify them that he was currently engaged… in an unofficial match, and to not disturb them. There was no point in telling them he was simply “on a break”, especially if they were battling in here. Given the intensity of which their battles usually escalated to, they were bound to figure it out anyway.

Technology was such a wonderful thing.

The confident expression on his face faltered a bit as he glanced at Green. This… was too familiar. Three months ago, the sides were flipped. Green was already the Champ, and he was behind… as usual. That’s the way it had been since day one of his journey. The auburn-haired male was always one, measly step ahead of him, no matter how hard he worked, or what accomplishments he made. Red supposed he shouldn’t get to worked up over it, and he didn’t, but he would be lying if he denied that it didn’t bother him. Even to this day, when for the first time, he was one step ahead of him.

Pikachu tugged at his cap. “Pika, pika..”

His crimson hues glistened at his Pokemon’s concern, shaking his head to deviate his worry. “Don’t worry about it Pikachu. It’s alright.” He looked back to Green, holding a Pokeball to his hip.

“This isn’t an official battle, but we should at least have a referee. Y’know, just to have a neutral perspective here.”

"You're right," agreed Green, with the urge to slap his palm to his forehead. He glanced around the room, then back at his rival. "Then call back in your referee, sense they're obviously not here right now." It made sense none would be in here right now; with how tough the League was, very few challengers probably came by a day, leaving the elite trainers time to train with no use of someone else until needed.

With a prompt nod, Red pulled back out his PokeGear, calling for a referee to come to the Champion’s room immediately. It only took a few moments for a middle-aged man to come running through the same door Green entered through, a Psyduck clumsily running alongside him. Panting slightly when he reached his position, he cast the two powerful Trainers a sheepish grin, rubbing the back of his neck.

“I got ‘ere as fast as I could,” he stated, still trying to catch his breath. “I hope ya don’t mind that I brought my Psyduck with me. We were just about to go to the pond out by Route 23, see?”

The Champion shook his hand, waving his dismissively. Had this been an official match, he supposed he wouldn’t have been so lenient. Then again, if that were the case, the referee would’ve already been in here. Heh.

“It’s alright. Just… make sure it doesn't get in the way.”

He knew from… personal experience just how much of a headache the Water Pokemon could be. Turning back to his opponent, he held out the Pokeball that was at his hip toward him, gesturing it in a challenging manner.

“This will be a 3-against-3 match, Rick,” Red explained, his focused glare still centered across the room. “The first one to have all three of their Pokemon defeated, wins.”

Rick nodded.
“Understood.” Idly he wondered why Green, of all people, would be back here for an unofficial match. Didn’t he want to reclaim his title that was stolen so quickly from him? Pah. It wasn’t his business to meddle in. “Are you ready, Green?”

The Leader nodded, eying the Psyduck and referee momentarily beforing fixing his gaze on Red. His rival had that usual, expressionless stare that made Green wonder exactly what he could be possibly planning. Unclipping the same Pokeball from his belt as he had earlier, he leaned his weight back on one leg and tossed the ball slightly in the air, catching it.

"As always, 'course I am." He waited, then, for their que to start.

Rick decided to ignore the cocky tone in the challenger’s voice, a brief smile overcoming his features before he fell back into a neutral stance. The small Psyduck, who looked to be no older than a level 5, waddled aimlessly beside him in circles. It seemed to be making itself dizzy. Jeez.

“Very well, then,” the referee reiterated. “Both of you are already aware of the conditions of this battle, and thus there is no need to restate them.” He cast both combatants a quick look before continuing. With a firm movement of his hand, he declared the start of the battle!

“Let the battle begin!”

“P-Psyduck!”

Upon the ref’s exclamation, a smile grin tugged at Red’s lips, the gesture ruining his emotionless exterior. This was sure to be very interesting. “So it begins…” he muttered. Pikachu yelped excitedly on his shoulder, standing on his hind-legs awaiting his Trainer’s first move. One could say that Pikachu was conveying the jubilant sentiments that Red refused to evoke through his own self.

The Pokeball enlarging in his hand, the Champion threw out his first Pokemon.

“Espeon, I choose you.”

"Here we go..." Green murmured, following the Champion's start with a quick swipe of his hand, the Pokeball he was holding growing in size and releasing the Pocket Monster as it fell to the ground. "Pidgeot! Come on out." The Bird Pokemon cried a battle cry as exited its confinements, stretching out its wings before folding them to its side. Green was eager to start the battle now, and so seemed Pidgeot as it recognized the other trainer and Pokemon they were up against.

((OOC: Tails-mun and I didn't RP the battle scene, so we're just cutting to the conclusion.))

Red’s Snorlax and Green’s Blastoise were locked in an intense glare. Both tired out from their rambunctious attacks upon each other. His stoic expression hidden under his cap, Red looked upon his large Normal Pokemon with an underlying anxiety. Both looked to be at their end. Their battle, so far, had been one-for-one. While his Espeon defeated his Pidgeot, Pikachu lost against his Eevee. That alone was enough to get the already high adrenaline pumping through him.

Suddenly… both Pokemon collapsed onto their backs, completely drained; they fainted.

Rick slashed his arm out toward the center of the arena.
“Both Pokemon are unable to battle! The battle is a draw!”

Psyduck flailed beside him. “Psy-Psyduck!”

“A draw?” Red muttered in disbelief. Why did that… bother him? Perhaps it was because his rival, the one who he had taken the throne from to begin with, still had the skills to take him down? What if this had been an official match? Green could have just as easily been the Champ again. Just like that. It was… nerve wrecking.

Of course, the male Trainer wouldn’t dare exhibit such feelings. Nodding toward the ref, and thus dismissing him, he recalled Snorlax back to its Pokeball. “You did well, buddy. Get some rest.” He, of course, wasn’t mad at his Pokemon. They always did their best. It was his job as a Trainer to ensure that they met all of their capabilities.

And even as the League Champion… it would seem as though he still had a lot of work to do.

Green had this look of fierce concentration, as though willing his Blastoise to make it through with just his stare. But then, both Pokemon fell, and his expression changed to a disbelieving frown as Rick declared the match a draw.

"A draw, of all things?"

In the end, that means they were about the same level and both had the capacity of winning. So where had he gone wrong? Sighing, he returned his Pokemon, smiling encouragingly at the Monster inside. "Rest now. You did great," he told it, and glanced back up at rival.

After all the teasing and unnecessary bullying, he wouldn't, not now anyway, show he really did admire the boy.

"Fine. We'll just have to have a rematch sometime in the future."

He simply nodded, casting him a small grin to show that he returned his sentiments. "Yeah." Pikachu was rested tiredly atop of his hat, little "X"s replacing its eyes to signify its defeat against Green's powerful Eevee. Idly he wondered if he would ever evolve it. 'Probably, Umbreon,' he guessed inwardly.

Placing his hands back in his pockets, he shrugged, getting ready to head to the Pokemon Center in front of the building to heal his team. They deserved a long rest. "So, is that it? You just came to battle and leave?" It's not like he was expecting more, Red was just curious. ... A little bit.

"Basically, I guess." Green, to, was about to head to the Poke`Center to give his Pokemon a good rest. "Why? Are you... dissapointed?" he teased.
A long time ago, he would have wanted to simply hang out after the battle while their Pokemon rested. Red never was much of a talker like he was, but once upon a time they were quite the best friends. Its to bad things changed like they did. Clipping Blastois's ball on his belt, he turned to to head out the door.

He cast his rival a flat look, following him out the door and to the Pokemon Center. "No, I was just wondering…" His tone was neutral, although it did entail a hint of annoyance. Green always had to say -something- to rub him even a little bit the wrong way. Hmph. Yes, they used to be best friends, and for a long period in his life, he even used to idolize him to a certain degree. Even today, he might still…

"Right," he replied, detecting the bit of annoyance behind Red's otherwise passive voice. Thats what he had intended for, anyways, to irritate the boy...
He shoved a hand in one of his pockets, eyes drooped in a casual expression. The passage back to the lobby didn't take to long to get through. When he looked around the quiet place, he noted, of course, that the boy that had been at the Poke`Center was no longer there. Probably to train, and come back one day for a rematch, Green imagined.

He wasn't in the mood to deal with his antics today, despite not seeing him for like... three months. What happened to growing tolerant of Green? That went out the window fast. Although, he wasn't angry. He was... he just needed to be alone with his Pokemon. Instead he went out to Route 23. It was a... calming route. One of his favorite. Red idly sat in the grass, sighing as the silent, spring breeze blew past him. Pikachu rested soundly in his lap, curling up against him. "Pika?" he chirped, as if it was inquiring what he was thinking. But the boy didn't reply. He only glanced down and smiled at the electric Pokemon. "..."

((OOC: The next evening... and morning.))
The sun waned somewhere over the tree tops, a deep orange that reflected nicely off the scattered clouds and dimming sky. Within the tall grass or scattered trees of Route 22, the whispery noises of Pokemon could be heard. Green could pinpoint several of the cries from experiance, as it helped to know where a possible foe was.

He had been out training most of the afternoon with his Pokemon. After experiancing a near loss at the Gym, he figured it might do him and his team some good. Not that it was his Pokemon's fault by any means, nor their training, actually. Sense returning from Indigo Plateau a few days ago, he just keep these nagging thoughts out of his head. To make matters worse, they especially liked to revolve around /Red/. Of all the people he knew.
And it wasnt just this rivalry thing, where he constantly wanted to get better then the boy. There was something else... a feeling he thought he had squashed long ago.

With a sigh, Green paused at the edge of some tall grass that eventually lead into some wooded areas. Ironically, his feet had wounded up here after switching out his Pokemon to Eevee. He'd spend the rest of the day training the fox-like Pokemon, but he really hadn't indended on traversing this particular route. He was to close to the Indigo Plateau, where /he/ was.
But Eevee seemed to be eager to train in the area, judging by how it jumped around in the grass. Shrugging, and putting his hands in his pockets, he continued down the route.

A lot of formidable Trainers had been arriving at the Indigo Plateau lately, and have been challenging the Elite Four and Champion. Heh, more than a few of them actually made it to the young Champion. The presumption amongst most of the challengers were that Red had gained his title as a fluke, and thus were not as focused against the boy than against the older, wiser Trainers below them. Of course, such immature accusations didn’t faze Red. Needless to say, every one of those pompous Trainers sustained a humiliating loss against the top Trainer in Kanto.

Even so… Red felt off.

It was an odd feeling that had stuck with him ever since his battle with Green a few days ago. He couldn't exactly pinpoint what it was, but whatever it was, it was seriously messing with his thoughts. Even Lance was beginning to notice his… “more than distant” personality. (Says the dragon maniac.) The leader of the Elite Four suggested that he take the day off to go relax or something. The caped male most likely assumed that the sudden series of battles were taking its toll on him.
Reluctantly, the dark-haired one heeded his suggestion. The way Lance had put it, he made it seem as though he was… overwhelmed or some familiar emotion. It wasn't the battles at all. No, no, he could this “Champion” stuff. It was just…

‘Ugh.’

“Pika?” the electric Pokemon quirked his head questionably at his master, his jagged, thunderbolt-shaped tail wagging playfully behind him as he rested on his broad shoulder.

This gesture made him chuckle, a small, cool grin gracing his features. “Ah, it’s nothing Pikachu. I’m just thinkin’.” The two were currently strolling around Route 22, a route fairly close to the Plateau, but far enough for him to not to see it. Admittedly, as much as he loved the Champion’s room, being outside in the open was exhilarating in its own natural way. It was on travelling along these routes, after all, that helped him and his Pokemon get to where they were today.

Looking on down the path with a neutral look, his crimson gaze perked when he noticed an Eevee playing around in the grass. How lucky! Eevee, despite being native to Kanto, were very hard to find. Even though Red already had his trusted Espeon, surely another one wouldn’t hurt? Maybe he could catch this one and get a Vaporeon or Flareon? Or maybe this Glaceon he had saw Lorelei with the other day. But then he’d have to go up north to the Sinnoh region to get that..

“Wait,” he muttered, as he looked closer at the Normal-type. “There’s something… familiar about it.”

Familiar, indeed. There was only person he knew with an unevolved Eevee…

Well, he should have expected the possibility of meeting his rival here. Stepping into view just as Eevee began to bark excitedly at the dark-haired trainer, Green resisted the urge to glare and turn the other way, because he felt undeniably nervous now. Not that he'd show it--of course not.

He straightened up and glanced evenly at Red. He'd do just as he did when they were little; hide the feelings and pretend they never existed. It worked, after all, for a short time.

Eevee ran back to its trainer, tail wagging, and then back towards Red. Whilst the boys rivals, the normal-type had taken a friendly liking to Red's Pikachu. Smiling at the creatures antics, Green followed it towards Red, the smile changing to a grin as he paused a few feet away.

"Red," he greeted. "Fancy meeting you here, huh?"

Ah. Just the person he did and did not want to see. Red smiled at the playful Eevee as it ran towards it, its mirthful expression focused on Pikachu, who in return cast it an equally friendly look. It was… cute.

“Yeah,” the capped boy replied, rivaling the Gym Leader’s grin with his own. “What are you doing out here? The Gym hasn’t been keeping you busy lately?”

Viridian City really wasn't that far from the Plateau. The main distance that set it apart was probably Victory Road. Even so, Red often liked to trail along this route in his downtime, so he was kind of surprised to see Green here…

"Eh, it has," admitted Green, inwardly examining the smile Red cast his Eevee with slight annoyance. He shoved his hands in his pockets, glancing at the copper sky. "But it was nice day out, so I closed it a 'lil early for some training."

Eevee yipped at a little at Pikachu, as if asking for it to come down and play. Green tilted his head curiously at his rival. "What about you? Gotten yourself beaten yet?"

What a lame excuse. Just because it was a “nice day” outside, didn’t validate his statement as a viable reason. The weather’s been like this for the past week. It was spring, after all. ‘He probably just got bored again.’

Another weak excuse, but at least it would have been believable, coming from his auburn-haired rival. Heh.

Red raised a brow at the slight annoyed look he was casting him, shrugging lightly as he retained his mirthful smile. The boy wasn’t one for being in such a jubilant mood, given his quiet nature, but the innocent interaction between his Pikachu and Green’s Eevee was something he couldn’t help but grin at.

Perhaps it was because it reminded of how he and his rival used to interact. The teasing and taunting had always been there, but it hadn’t yet evolved to the intense level that it was at now. Even though it had simmered down since their last, real climatic battle, and even some time before that, there was still a very high possibility that it would arise again.

The young Trainer would never admit it, but sometimes he found himself wishing that he and his childhood friend would…

‘Never mind.’

Now, he was just gettin’ too sentimental for his own taste. Or as his mom would put, “embracing your inner feelings”. The teen grimaced at the thought. That was that girly stuff his eccentric mother tended to ramble about. Ugh.

Upon Green’s last snide question, Red huffed casting him a knowing look. “If that was the case, do you really think that I would smiling right now?” As if he would allow anyone to strip his title away from him so soon. He was still becoming accustomed to it.

Of course, it didn’t help much that his most prominent competition was standing right before him…

"'Guess not," the auburn-haired teen agreed. Now that he thought about it, Red didn't smile much anyway, always having this passive look on his face. Something must have put the boy in quite the good spirits, and looking down at the two monsters between them, Green figured he new one reason.

"So your just taking a break, too, then?" He glanced at the orange-tinted sky. It looked as though it had been painted. "Its getting late."

Not that it was a problem, being out late. He'd probably be out for a while, anyway, training his Eevee until it was time to head in for the night.

Smiling wasn't really Red’s thing. Surely, he wasn’t depressed, angst-driven or anything of the sort, but its just… a gesture the young Champion wasn’t accustomed to doing. Nevertheless, his Pokemon could sense the boy’s sentiments even if he did appear callous and generally… blank. However, it wasn’t like many could read his expression anyway since he was always wearing that old baseball cap of his. Agatha often teased him for wearing such a childish article holding the prestigious title he did. Of course, he didn’t pay her any mind.

A slight grin still on his face, gleaming crimson orbs shifted up to the sunset-colored sky, idly noting the rich hues of orange, yellow, and pink it exuded. The sight, albeit a daily view, never ceased to amaze him. He could remember flying around on Charizard just to get a closer view of the mesmerizing spectacle. Nature really had its perks, eh? … Perhaps he was getting a little too sentimental about this.

“For the time being, yeah,” he finally replied, his gaze still set upwards. To his childhood friend, it might have appeared as if he were in some sort of trance. Not that that wasn't normal. “Lance said I should. He thinks that this whole Champion business is gettin’ to me or something.” Red snorted. “I keep telling him I’m fine, but he’s so persistent.”

The elite Trainer looked back to Green, shoving his hands coolly in his jean pockets, nodding. “Yeah. A couple of Zubats from Victory Road sometime come out and fly around this spot. Maybe if we’re lucky, we’ll spot a Golbat, or even a Crobat.” True, Crobat was a native to the Johto region, but with recent influxes of new Trainers all over the globe, foreign Pokemon have gradually began infiltrating the settle Kanto region. Later on, Red would have to go around and take on the Hoenn and Sinnoh regions. Since he was a Champion, would he still be able to engage in the Gym Leader challenge? If not, maybe he could disguise himself or something. After all, he was always up for new adventure and challenge.

"Oh?" He showed signs of disinterest at the topic, but nonetheless glanced around at the shadowy trees and clumps of tall grass that bordered parts of the road. He'd seen enough of Zubat from his ventures, especially in the caves that wormed under Kanto. Though, catching sight of a Crobat on such a night wouldn't be as tiresome. "Cool."

It occured to him, as he turned his gaze back on Red, that this could be the start of a... normal conversation. One that didn't quite involve his snide remarks, though he did enjoy getting a rise out of the boy. Not to mention, when has Red talked so much? It was a little bit of a contrast to Green's own current mood, where the quiet sounds of nightfall often left him in a thoughtful mood.

He opted to force himself out of such a mood, for it seemed a little out of character. "So, are you getting many challenges? Or, by 'this whole Champion bussiness gettin' to you' mean you're letting it get to you head?"

Well, he only mentioned the Zubat because they always did this weird, almost ritualistic, dance, with the leader of their… group, usually a Golbat, or on a rare occurrence, a Crobat…. ehh, Red thought it was sort of cool anyway. Didn't know about Green, though. Perhaps Professor Oak was aware of the Zubats’ peculiar tradition. Although, even though Green’s grandfather was “the world’s acclaimed Pokemon researcher”, the Champion was aware that field study wasn’t really his style. That was some other region’s Pokemon Professor’s forte. What was his name…? It was Professor Birch or some random tree last name? Agatha had mentioned him before.

Meh. It wasn't really important.

Ironically, Red was beginning to realize the awkwardness of their conversation as well. Usually, any interaction that occurred between them involved Green’s stupid teasing and him becoming gradually annoyed and/or flustered by his taunting, which would quickly escalate to an inevitable Pokemon battle between the two. It was a continuous cycle between the two Trainers, one that has persisted since the day they both set foot out of Pallet Town on their own respective journeys. Heck… it might have originated even earlier than that. This “cycle” or whatever was just one of the many aspects of their relationship that has changed since the aftermath of their battle versus each other at the Plateau.

That event was surely more impactful than either would have ever assumed it to be.

He raised a brow at the hooded Gym Leader’s inquiry, a flat look appearing on his face. Ah, now there was an expression more recognizable of the prodigy. Hadn’t he just told him he was fine? “It’s not getting to my head,” Red replied, his voice reverting back to its low and impassive tone. “I’m doing just fine… as I just said.”
Pikachu glanced up at its master curiously during his little game with Eevee, casting the boy a knowing look. The electric mouse knew the teen well.

Silent and solemn he may be, but the desire for adventure still lingered throughout Red, he could feel it. He knew it. Champions were known for travelling all over the world. After all, it wasn't a necessity for him to remain at the Plateau all of the time. He was essentially a professional Pokemon Trainer, but it wasn't like it was a real, proclaimed job. Pikachu didn’t think that Red was overwhelmed by his title, but perhaps that he just needed to… remind himself that he was that mere Trainer from Pallet Town. Heck, he had spent nearly a year training vigorously atop of Mount SiIver. It wasn’t like he could convey these thoughts to Green however, let alone his owner.

Besides... where in Kanto has Red not been to yet?

Green found he missed the somewhat cheerful expression Red held earlier, and felt a little disappointed as it was replaced by that more serious look. Had he offended the boy? Mentally, he shook his head; that good-natured look would still be there had he not. But, why did he care?

"Right, I'm sure." Whether or not that was to be taken sarcastically or not was up to Red. He glanced at Pikachu and his Eevee, taking little note of the look the electric mouse's cast its owner. He patted his thighs, calling his monster over. "Anyway, not sure about you, but I came out to do some training. Might as well get on with it."

What was with that downcast look of his? It was slight, but the expression still somewhat bewildered him. Of course, he did not express this sentiment exteriorly. Feh. What did it even matter? Impassive crimson glanced down the small, yellow Pokemon, frowning slightly at the knowing look it cast him. What was he-- certainly he didn't think something was wrong with him did he? Jeez.

"Pikachu..." The ebony-haired boy opened his arms for the electric mouse to jump into, lightly holding him as he cuddled in his grasp. "Training? Heh. Anymore training that Eevee there and he'll be an Umbreon." It was joke, maybe. His attempt to be funny, perhaps. Ha.

Green glanced to the sky, and then Eevee, who now sat closely at his feet. With a grin, he replied, "Well of course. Isn't that what I'm planning?"

The fox-like creature gave a small yip in agreement. Really, he had been holding back on his Eevee's evolution, until recently. He hadn't really thought of it much.
Stuffing his thumbs in his pocket, he glanced back at Red, for a moment a little reluctant to depart.

Red simply chuckled in response, providing some relief to the auburn-haired male that his old friend did possess some emotion. Just as quick as that lighthearted expression came, it faltered back into its indifferent state. The young Champion couldn’t help it. Most of time, people couldn’t even see his face due to his invaluable hat. He supposed it just added to his “mysterious” quality. Whatever that meant.

“Ah, I see. Maybe when you actually him, you can put it to the test against my Espeon. That's sure to be an interesting match.”

Of course, he was assuming that he was planning to evolve the Normal-type into an Umbreon. And if that were the case, then Espeon being a Psychic-type would be at a disadvantage. However, when has that stopped either of them before? That just made the match more interesting. Heh. Although, he had to wonder why Green decided to put off evolving Eevee for so long. How long had he had him? If he recalled correctly, then it has been almost as long as he has had Pikachu.

Really, Red was hardly one to talk. He had constantly received pressure from all over to evolve his Pikachu into a Raichu already, just to “move to that final step”. Yeah, Raichu was stronger and faster than Pikachu. The electric mouse’s abilities would be greatly enhanced in its final state. The youth could attest that revelation to Lt. Surge’s Raichu. Heck, he was even sure that as a Raichu, Pikachu would still retain its loyal, noble attitude.

Nevertheless, Red didn’t want to evolve ‘im. The prospect still lingered in his mind, admittedly, although it was more of an absent thought, but… Raichu just wasn’t Pikachu. There was no need to bestow him with an Everstone. It wasn't like he was going to evolve upon leveling-up… all that was needed was an exposure to a Thunderstone. There is no de-evolution. ‘Sides, he wouldn’t bed doing anything without Pikachu’s consent.

Crimson eyes glanced at his rival curiously as he stuffed his thumbs into his cargo pockets, prompting him to scratch the back of his messy head as an idle gesture. It was really late now… he had to get back to the Plateau and to his quarters there. On a nice, crisp night such as this, he would’ve slept outside, like old times, but the Elite Four and the other League staff would have jumped to some crazy conclusion that a Diglett kidnapped him or Team Rocket had ambushed him or something. All of which were ludicrous accusations. Jeez.

Why a tang of reluctance hit him as he begun to turn to leave bewildered him, causing him scrunch his nose in confusion. What was that about? Jeez. “Guess, I’ll catch ya later, “ he stated with a wave, Pikachu in tow in his arms. “See you later, Green.” Pika emitted a small, farewell cry to Eevee as he departed. Both had a feeling that they would see the duo again much sooner than they thought…

"It would, wouldn't it?" he agreed, giving a quirky grin. He didn't bother mentioning the type advantages, either, as it was so obvious. But judging the both of them, that wouldn't hinder them much in battle. He turned as well, pulling his hands from his pockets to wave.

He caught the temporary look of confusion cross the other boy's features. Green raised a brow at that, but nonetheless waved his hand in good-bye before pocketing it again. "Yep. Smell ya later, Red." And he turned to leave in a different direction, as Eevee yipped a quick farewell to Pikachu before padding after its trainer.

Smell ya later? Heh. When was the last time he heard that phrase? Just the utterance of those three words would ignite a small rage or determination within the stoic boy, influencing his desire to take down his once fleeting rival.

It didn't take long, as expected for Red and Pikachu to return to the Plateau, who were oddly greeted by Lorelei. Usually, the bespectacled Ice-type trainer was off somewhere on her home Four Island if she wasn’t here, doing it was… whatever she did there. Apparently, there was a rumor, he had heard from Misty, the Cerulean City Gym Leader, that she had a whole collection of Poke Dolls in her house. Of course, Red didn’t care about such a trivial fact, but he couldn’t help but wonder what a grown woman was doing with all of those toys…

“Hey, Red,” Lorelei grinned, casting him a slight wave. “I see you’re finally back. I would’ve gone to find you myself, but I figured you would be back soon anyway, so I just waited here!”

The dark-haired boy was a little deterred by her excessive talking. “… Okay. What do you want?”

Smirking, the gleam in the Elite Four’s glasses shone suspiciously, placing a hand to her hip. “Well, I have something I think you may be interested in. Something’s going down at the Seafoam Islands…”

In the past three months, Green had visited the Indigo Plateau twice. This was his third time.

Only, the conditions were a little different. The following day after his coincidental meet up with Red on Route 22, Lorelei--of all people, he mused--had sent him a message through the PC, requesting him to return to the Plateau. Aside from challenges he might have received that day, he had nothing better to do, and so he agreed to come. However, he wasnt sure what her reasons for summoning him was.

The Elite Trainer was, apparently, waiting for him outside. He spotted her quickly after climbing off Pidgeot (of course, he avoided going through Victory Road). Subcontiously, he glanced around for Red, half expected the boy to be around. He had been, after all, the main reason Lorelei and had sent for him, and this made him all the more curious.

It was six o’ clock in the morning. While Red wasn’t one to complain much, one of his pet peeves was to be woken up too early. Anything after sunrise was fine. Even during his “training” atop of Mt. Silver, he wasn’t an early-riser, as most would expect him to be. So, when Lorelei, really of all people, called him on his PokeGear to “tell him something super important”, needless to say, the young Champion wasn’t too pleased.

Nevertheless, he complied with the Ice-type trainer’s request, and groggily arrived at the threshold of the Plateau. Since the eminence of night still lingered, the air was still a bit nippy, but that didn’t deter the ebony-haired boy’s choice of his short-sleeved shirt. If he could stand through the freezing cold atop of Mt. Silver, then he could definitely handle a little morning breeze. Still, he folded his arms across his chest, raising a brow when he noticed Green here as well alongside his Pidgeot.

What… what was he doing here?

Well, that ruled any Plateau business he thought they might have to discuss. Green, albeit the final Gym Leader to defeat to even challenge the Elite Four, was still that… a Gym Leader. A Gym Leader that nearly deprived you of your title. Red shook his vehemently. He didn’t need to go thinkin’ about that again. Casting his rival a slight nod in welcoming, he turned toward the bespectacled woman, his expression wanting her to hurry up and say what she had to say. Maybe if she talked fast enough, he would be able to go back to sleep…

Lorelei nodded promptly at the two teens, placing her hands on her hips. Aha! Just the two boys she needed. “Alright, you two!” Well, she was in an energetic mood.
“There’s a good, legitimate reason for why I’ve called you both over. See, I figured, since even though you two were rivals, you do work well together under pressure, so I figured you two would be perfect for the job.”

Red merely blinked, his blank, neutral expression masking the true incredulousness he held toward her immense energy. This was something he would expect from Bruno or Janine, Koga’s daughter, but Lorelei? What exactly was she so excited about? “So, what do you want?” he questioned, attempting to restrain the agitation from his voice.

The Elite Four member scratched the back of her head sheepishly. She hadn’t mentioned yet? Oh, how silly of her!
“Oh, right! You guys know how Cinnabar Island blew up a few years back? Well, recently, it has been discovered that the tremors of that devastating event actually affected the Seafoam Islands, contrary to previous reports.”

She paused a bit before continuing; inwardly hoping that she had piqued the interests of the two formidable Trainers. “Apparently, a new totally undiscovered area has been revealed. However, its risk level is comparable to that of the Cerulean Cave.” Her tone resorted back to the calm, mature tone the Champion was accustomed to, that latter statement, admittedly, drawing interest from him.
“… It’s that dangerous?”

Green raised a brow, wondering how anyone could be so energetic so early in the morning. Eevee’s training last night had led him to go to bed later then usual last night, and this morning he felt a little sluggish from sleepiness. So, though he was curious as to what Lorelei had to say, he also very much wanted to return to his bed.

Nonetheless he listened to the woman’s ramblings, shoving his hands into his jeans pockets. His dark grey jacket otherwise kept him warm from the morning chilliness, though he did feel it on his nose a little. It wasn’t until the elite Trainer had mentioned the danger of the new, exposed areas of Seafoam islands that he really gained interest in what she had to say.

A new adventure would be nice, he thought. Even though he spend much of his time away from the gym he was supposed to watch over, it still wasn’t like older times when everything was new and had a goal.

“So you want us to go down and explore the undiscovered areas?” he wanted to know, pulling his hands out of his pockets to cross them over his chest. “Sounds like fun. Even though Red’ll be comin’ along.”

Red couldn't help but be a little skeptical to Lorelei's proposal. Ice-type endeavors were her thing, right?

"Why are you suggesting this to us?" he questioned, shoving his hands in his jean pocket. "I mean, why don't you just go and check it out yourself?" A soft yawn emitted from his mouth upon his inquiry, blinking rapidly in order to stay alert. Jeez, couldn't she have waited to summon them a couple hours later? Certainly then he wouldn't be in a crabby mood. ... Krabby. Heh.

The red-haired trainer smiled, wagging her finger, and casting the young Champion a knowing look.
"Oh, Red, don't be like that! It's as Green says... it is going to be fun!" She placed a hand to her voluptuous hip, smirking. "The reason I'm telling you instead of going myself is because... well, I just have a feeling you two would benefit from an adventure more than I would. After all, I already had my share of one by visiting the Snowpoint Temple in the Sinnoh region!" Lorelei snickered. Bet they didn't know did they? "Plus, Lance was telling me Red that you were still pensive about your role. Being Champion doesn't mean that you're confined to the Plateau all the time. We're all still Trainers, right?"

She motioned to the Gym Leader. "Same for you, even though you're a bit of a stranger to your own Gym." That was a reprimand, maybe.

The capped boy frowned a bit, scratching the top of his head in thought. Well, an investigation such as this couldn't hurt. And since this area was undiscovered until recently, it's risk level is probably perceived to be equivalent to that of Cerulean Cave. I don't know if Mewtwo is still in there, though. Regarding the Seafoam Islands, the main thing Red remembered from the place was that that was where Articuno resided... or at least, that's where the ice-type legendary tended to hang around. Legendary Pokemon, especially those who could fly, were never prone to staying in one place for long. Feh.

Red frowned at Green's witty comment, but chose not to respond to it. "Eh, okay. I'm game too, I guess." He would have to tell his mom before he left, though. Jeez.

(Jeez, reading over that, all your replies could practically eat mine. .-. Lol.)

Green regarded the Elite Four's -maybe- reprimand with a raised brow. Hey, he spent a decent enough time in his own gym. He just didn't... stay there like most Leaders did. He was still young after all, so why just stay in one place all the time? Gym Leader or not.

He looked over at Red. "Don't seem so glum about it. Do you honestly like staying on the mountain all the time?" he asked. Then again, when did the boy -not- look glum. "So when do we go?"

He could probably send word over to his sister or gramps, too, but that wouldn't take to long. He yawned, then, and decided to answer his own question. "We can just go back to bed and leave tomorrow."

((OOC: Lol, all I see is red. ^_^;; I just write too much. Anyway, sorry for super late response.))

Red frowned at his rival's inquiry, resisting the urge to roll his eyes. He was not always glum. He just didn’t feel the need to smile all of the time. "Mt. Silver wasn't all that bad..." was his muttered response, shoving his hands in his pocket further. Really, the frigid temperatures were one thing, but after while, he got used to it. Despite the minor annoyance he felt toward the auburn-haired Gym Leader, he could deal with him for the sake of an adventure. There was nothing he couldn't handle, right?

The bespectacled female laughed heartily at their bantering.
"Hee, you two ought to have your own sitcom! Bickering like you do." She snickered. "I would say you two were like an old married couple, but that wouldn't be right, now would it?" Her tone was playful and teasing, a bit too light for Red's current sleepy mood. He subtly chose to ignore her comment, scratching the back of his neck tiredly Right now, he just really wanted to get back to bed. A warm bed and pillow never sounded so inviting...

"Anyway, you two could leave as early as tomorrow. I trust you both remember where the Islands are?" Lorelei shrugged, responding the same as Green. She supposed she'd say it again just for reiteration. "You better! Remember to stock up before you head down there, and let me know before you guys take off, okay!"

Red cast her a flat look. "Alright, Mom." There was no need to explain all of that. Heck, most of that was a given. "So, it's settled. We depart tomorrow. Great."

Lorelei nodded, grinning mirthfully.
"Awesome. You two can head on back to bed, sleepyheads. Enjoy the warm climate while you can!" And with a swift turn, the Elite Four member disappeared back into the Plateau's confines, leaving the two Trainers alone.

The young Champion looked after her for a brief moment before emitting a small chuckle, a bemused grin present upon his stoic features. "She is so weird." He turned toward Green, shrugging."Fuchsia City is the closest city to Seafoam. We can just meet up there tomorrow."
