Gods, I'm Goregous...

Enos-Jakosha has killed the God of Lust, a man by the name of Kitara. The punishment? Well, something like this has never happened before... but likely death... So how will he escape? Or... will he? And what's going on with the mysterious reclusive Ista?

(These intros are just the corniest! ^^)

Gods, I'm Goregous...

Enos Jakosha made his way slowly over to the god's residence, feeling uneasy. Maybe it was the clouds of despair, wafting heavy around the place. Maybe it was the dread and fear of the act he had just committed. News traveled fast in the Fourth Circle.

God of Despair's home was rather dark place, since even though Ista was rather nice peson for god with his domain, he still had to keep up proper home, and people did not actually think that he should have happy home with flowers, so obsidian and skulls they were. Doors were just as evil looking, with screaming faces on them. Doors opened to Enos, altough Ista was not in entrance hall behind it anywhere to be seen.

"Hello?" He said softly. He had never actually been over here before. They never invited each other over for crumpets and tea in the Fourth Circle. It was generally picnics out in the garden, if they wanted, or meeting on the mortal plain for curry. He had never asked why, assuming the situation to be embarrassing. Now he knew that Ista's home was just plain creepy. The door opened inward without a tug at the handle, frightening him a bit more. "Ista??"

When Enos stepped in, doors slammed themselves shut. For moment nothing happened, and then cloaked figure who covered his face, came to echidna god. "Honored Enos-Jakosha, Master of Despair is waiting for you, please follow me." Cloaked person just started walking away towards basement, waiting Enos to follow him.

He jumped a little bit when he heard the doors slam. No way out. Then an eyebrow raised at the cloaked figure. 'He has a servant? Huh.' The god followed the cloaked figure cautiously, trying to be aware of any traps.

Cloaked figure lead Enos to the basement, and there opened huge doors at the end of stairs. behind them was a another large hall, but creepy thing was what was inside it. Most part of room was occupied by huge pool of water, that was light blue or maybe white, but not in any sense water. Also, there was no way to say how deep it was. There was a platform hovering in the air at the middle, where Ista was sitting, and looking at water. God of Despair rose his head, and then said when he saw Enos. "Oh, you came? You have really done it this time, I must say that much." Cloaked figure just walked away, and seemingly disappeared in shadows, its task done.

Enos-Jakosha shifted from one foot to the other nervously. "I know... I thought I would come and tell you, before they found out the whole picture... The entire Fourth Circle is in uproar over this..." He smiled faintly. "I seem to have a knack for sensationalism... There's talk of taking away my power... or banishment..." He looked away, and his eyes grew dark. "Blast, I never meant for any of this. Who would have thought she could bring so much grief!..." He realised who he was talking to, and chuckled darkly. "Of course. How could I realise it would go so far as to come to this... Do you want to know how it went? Who attacked first? Who is guilty? Or have you set your mind, one way or the other... or seen the outcome..."

Ista smiled just as happily as Enos had, and then answered: "I have not seen the outcome, and did not see this in advance, and that is what is bothering me. Death of god is an event of terrible importance, and I did not see any of it. That was when I started to think about this, and is also reason why I have been looking at this pool for last two days."

He looked at the pool curiously, seeing nothing, and then looked back at Ista with concern. "Are... are you alright? This must be of great mental strain on you, and you should rest... so why are you looking at a pool?" He was equally concerned about the issue of the lack of vision. This had never happened to Ista before, as long as the two had known each other.

Ista gestured towards the pool, and then started explaining: "Because this pool is Well of Destiny, artifact that wa used by last god of destiny, who disappeared centuries ago. Few decades afterwards, I came and took it, since now one was using it. It shows pattern of past, present and future to anyone who can see it. It can show me outcomes, possible endings, and everything between, but since it shows so much, filtering it all is rather hard." When water was looked more carefully, there could be seen ripples, that formed into pictures, and those pictures flashed in quick succession.

"...So you took on the powers of the God of Destiny?" This made sense to the god. "But... if you cannot see things so clearly any more... are you losing your power?" He glared down at the water, as if it were to blame, but also trying to see the images Ista was. To him, it was still a blank puddle.

Ista grunted when Enos said about him losing his power to see the future, but then just answered: "I can see thing clearly, that is strange thing, but there was not even a hint of your deed in pattern of destiny. Now I can see what will follow, like it had been there always, but invisible to me. I can't believe that a single event could be shrouded from me if I would be losing my powers, it must be something else."

"Then... who is hiding it from you?" He wondered aloud. "These don't sound like fair events at all. Maybe it was never meant to happen." He looked back into the darkness again, and was unable to suppress a shiver. "I think your shouded servant is watching me, and truth, is freaking me out..."

"I do not know, but if it is something, then whoever he is, is outside destiny, and there are only two things that can be so." Ista stopped staring at well again, and then just said: "Karak, go away, you are spooking our guest." There was something alike a wind blowing, and then presence was gone. God of Despair continued: "Don't mind them, those things are part of my domain, so I have to use their services.I am just happy that there are not too many mortals capable of doing what they had done, otherwise there would be even more of them."

...He understood none of that, but felt it better not to pry. "Uh... right...Well... would you like me to tell you about the... 'event'... then?" Hoping that the God of Despair would be on his side, hoping for one person to believe him.

Ista noticed Enos's curiosity, and then continued: "Oh, they are mortals who have caused enough despair and sadness to others, that they become something like shades of pure misery, Most of them were either dictators, mass murderes, or other monsters who took pleasure in causing despair. And I am rather curious about what happend, since my visions about event are still blurry. So tell me, how did you end up killing one of us?"

Enos-Jakosha hesitated, and then sat on the ground. "I... was on my mountain retreat. Living the ascetic lifestyle the past few months. Trying to get away from... her... Just meditating peacefully. ...She wanted my return... maybe she got bored of her various 'friends'... sent Kitara after me... I had no idea he was so loyal to her... I tried to talk some sense into him, about what she really was like, mad with power, filled with grotesque soul distortion... he wouldn't listen. He was intent on seduction, so I would come along willingly... and I touched his skin and destroyed him completely. As a vigilant defender of justice, I know that was a crime, and that it should be justly punished in court... but I was defending myself...honestly..." He looked away. "And she will be on the panel, judging me..."

Ista could do much else than sigh, and then say: "And I believe you, but that won't help very much: Truth to be told, I am still little shocked about your wife, since I could not her becoming divine being either. It is like someone is actually trying to cause destruction. Council won't look at your act very nicely, that much I can say. You are either a murderer, or then just god of destruction who went little overboard, but in any case, your wife will win. Her influence will grow, and your repuation will be tarnished, and somehow I think, that it was what she intended from the beginning."

"Who could it be? I'm the God of Destruction. Surely I would have knowledge of whoever is doing this?" He looked away. "Dammit. I should have known making her goddess was a bad idea. She wins? How could she be so popular to rally them against me? ...No... I killed a god, no one will trust me anyway..." He clenched his fist. "So what do I do??"

Ista tried once again to get clear picture from future by looking at pool, and then just sighed again. "It was rather nice way to make council unable to touch her, that is for sure, they could not touch her, since killing god is strictly forbidden, but that it the problem now." Finally Ista took a small stone and threw it to the pool angrily, and then rose up. "Whoever it is, he is either completely outside from destiny, or then time traveller, who can see future also. And I am not sure what you can do. You were attacked, so you can't really be blamed. Of course if you could somehow prove that your wife is behind everything, thing's would be different. I can't see a single future that is going to end happily, and somehow I also think that is what our unwanted manipulator wants. This is beginning of the end to us."

"What proof do I have, other than my word?" He wrang his hands helplessly. "I'm quite thourough in my destruction. There is not a shred of Kitara left, or evidence linking him to my wife. She will deny everything, though anyone who knows her should know what her intentions were. I doubt she is the manipulator. She may be evil, but she did not intend this. She wants something else, not death or banishment." He smiled a little. "'Us?' 'Our?' You are too kind. This is my fault, and my problem. While I am saddened that there is some error or manipulator in the events of destiny, this is my punishment to come, and my end. I don't want you suffering at my side. You must remain, even if I am gone. Too many gods destroyed, too many old friends lost to this... feud... and she'll just have all control."

Gods, I'm Goregous...

Ista smiled sadly when Enos said about him talking about "us". "I intend to support you best to my ability, it is not like council can do much anything to me, since Despair is outside their rules. But I did not mean us as you and me, I meant as our people. As gods." Echidna floated his platform outside the pool, and then stepped in front of Enos. "Your wife is not the manipulator, that much is sure, rather she is just a pawn to manipulator, one of his chess pieces."

"Pawns for pawns," he growled. "Fantastic. Would the manipulator be a god then? I cannot imagine a mortal at the helm..." He stepped back. "No one is outside the rules, Ista. The laws are what keep us sane and cilivilized. You start thinking like that... and that way leads to darkness and pain. I should never have killed... well, it's too late now..." His fist struck his open palm. "Augh! Conspiracy in our midst! I do not blame you for believing this to be the end of things... And I brought it on..."

Ista suddenly blinked. "Yes, of course you are right, without rules we gods would just destroy the world sooner or later. So why did I say that?" God of Despair closed his eyes, and momentarily placed his hand on his forehead, before continued: "You are not to blame completely, I am rather sure, that even if you would not have done it, someone else would had, sooner or later. And he is either a god, or then something else than mortal. And that scares me, what else there can be, than god, who could manipulate so easily other gods?"

He honestly had no answer to that, so he let the question hang in silence. "Something like that is scary..." he pondered quietly. "What should I do then? Defend myself, at risking the gods warring between themselves, or sacrifice myself for the continued peace?"

Ista just shook his head, uncertain. "I do not know. If you defend yourself, there will be much bickering among gods, and if you just accept punishment they decide to thrust upon you, you will probably be out of picture for some time. I would advice that you decide yourself, when you hear what they have in mind. I intend to come there also, Despair always comes uninvited."

"...I will be truthful, but I will not try to convince them to believe my innocence. The benefit of the many outweigh the needs of the few... I hope, if they banish me, that I may return soon..." He patted Ista's shoulder. "Your sight will return. It must..."

Ista smiled to his friend, and just said. "Nevertheless, I will come with you to the trial, and will say my opinion, that is my right as one of gods. And I will probably talk to your wife at some point there too, she might know who our mysterious manipulator is, even though she doesn't realize it herself."

"You are too good of a friend." He smiled faintly. "I think they will come to have me tried within the week... I was going to talk to Mefilos. He seemed rather heartbroken about all of this..."

"I can believe that, Mefilos has always been little...emotional. Death of one of us was probably hard to take, or the fact that you did it. But let's leave now, council is most likely waiting for you to arrive from your little detour to my home." Ista gestured Enos to come, and started leaving the room, expecting echidna god to follow him.

Gods, I'm Goregous...

The guilty god was indeed put on watch and 'house arrest' until the courtroom could be assembled. He promised on his word of honor that he would not leave, but they still left guards at every exit. He was somewhat sad that he couldn't tell Mefilos and Iblis about the incident, but there was no time.

The Fourth Circle had never had any need of a prison. It was highly unusual. They had used the courtroom before, but mainly for meetings, and legal issues, and the few occasional misdemeanors. The most could be accused of previously was perhaps torture or killing of mortals for fun, which was always a good way to wreck a reputation.

No one had ever purposefully killed a god before, out of malignant or just apathetic intent. If it had been done before, it was because of accident, or poor checking of equipment on scurnag runs, leading to death. And those were also shames. But this... was something new and horrifying.

The date came quickly, and nearly everyone who was not associated wished that the perpetrator would get a very vile and harsh punishment.

The Courtroom was filled, this fine morning. Every god and goddess who could possibly fit filled the rows lining the walls, above the Floor. It was not every day that a god was put on trial. A Council-member, none the less.

Ista walked in the hall, avoiding other gods more or less completely, since he was not a social type. God of Despair tried to find Enos-Jakosha in here somewhere, even though he did not really have clear picture, was his friend allowed to walk freely here before the trial or not. He looked at the faces of many gods here, and tried to see, were all major gods here, as they should be.

Enos-Jakosha was standing between two pillars, bound in cuffs and chained to the pillars with glowing gold chain. He wasn't struggling, because, first, they could not be removed by him, and second, he had decided not to fight for himself.

Ista noticed his friend, and then came to him, not really caring was it against the rules or not. It was not like those chains really served any purpose, since Enos had already came here of his own will, and was not going anywhere. It was all just for a show, much like mortals did in their trials, that were more public events to satisfy their hunger for violence, than means to pass justice. Ista despised all these gods here, since they had lowered themselves to a same level. God of Despair just sighed, and said to Enos when he had came to him: "And so it begins, today's show."

He smiled slowly. "Yes... I did not know if you would be showing up or not... I shouldn't have doubted you... They're keeping Mephi-sama locked in his house, for fear he might try to - I don't know - break me free, or something to that extent."

Ista just shook his head sadly, and then answered to his friend: "I hope that he won't do anything that he will regret later on." They had come to Ista too and said that he should not leave his house for the duration of trial, but then again, no one really wanted to stay in a gothic castle that was his home and keep him under watch, so God of Despair had departed anyway."Perhaps I will go talk to him at some point. But for now, I guess we have to let this farce start." After saying this, Ista walked away, since it was not really safe to talk here, with all curious gods watching at them. He had just wanted to make clear to everyone, whose side he was here in this day.

The Council members were dressed in solemn black robes, sitting very high and dignified in their chairs. "Let the trial commence," the Head ordered, and banged his gavel. "Enos-Jakosha, you have been charged with the murder of Kitara, the God of Lust, and not only completely destroying him, without leaving any remnant, but also taking upon his powers. How do you plead?" The god looked up blankly. His wife was on the Council too, looking all too smug. He remained silent.

Ista just leaned to the wall of the great hall, and listened what Council said. This was stupid and idiotic, and they had to all know it. Why did they all deserve to be all high and mighty in those chairs, and act like all-knowing beings, they most certainly were not. Things should be changed. Wait, why what was that? Ista touched his forehead with his hand, and tried to cope with sudden headache he had gotten. God of Despair remained silent, and just let the trial go on.

Enos finally spoke. "No contest." The 'judge' leaned forward. "Ah! So you agree that it is the truth?" He looked up bleakly. "Is it?" He asked back. "That is what we are asking!" The judge got irritated easily. Enos sighed. "Go on with your 'evidence'." The judge crossed his arms. "You were on the mountain top in the Spine Mountains. Why?" The god was silent again.

Ista was now getting dizzy as he tried to pay attention to the trial. There was something wrong with him. Something was happening, now... No, what was this? It was like there were two voices inside his head, each on trying to decide themselves what he would do. God of Despair fell to his knees, and tried to keep his mind clear.

Enerjak gave his account, very bluntly and truthfully, leaving out Shivasu. The god had come, and attacked him, and tried to put him into a bad situation, so he had killed him. He did not even speak for his own self defence. He just detailed out how he had killed the god. This stunned both the council and the gods watching. He did not look very good at all.

Ista managed to finally regain his composure, and just sighed when he heard what Enos told to the council. This was not going to be pretty, or nice. God of Despair started making his way through the crowd of gods, wanting to get little closer. If judge was going to do that what Ista thought he would, then he would have to at least get understand what they were doing.

"So... you fully eroded away his body and life force... because he was bothering you on the mountain?" The judges asked incredulously. Enos was silent, though his eyes flickered to Ista, before closing.

The God of Despair stopped just before the empty area where Enos and judges were, and clenched his fists, this was going too far. But Ista stayed silent for now, he wanted to know the sentence, before he would say what he thought of this all aloud.

"...Council adjourns for a 5 minute recess. Meet back here for the verdict." Everyone filed out, but Enos was forced to continue standing, chained up. In the empty, echoing courtroom, he laughed.

Ista stayed here, and even though he did not go to Enos, he sent his thought to him. "What do you find so funny in all this? They are throwing dice in their meeting room what they will do to you."

"My life is in my hands... aye," he choked out. "But... the look on her face!! Ha! She will wallow in her secret sins, and she will be plagued by this, either way!" He smiled, and rubbed a little at his wrists. The cuffs hurt. He could barely move.

"Well, there is still something I will do before this all is over. I have no reputation to keep, so I can just say aloud what I think of all this. They will realize what they really are. Argh, not again...anyway, let's see what will happen." Ista stayed silent then, and just waited that trial would continue, and that they would invoke their judgement.

The judges walked in, when the rest assembled in the courtroom. Most of them looked sheepish, and Shivasu looked smug. "Enos-Jakosha, you have pleaded guilty, and have described your murder quite effectively." The goddess leaned in, to catch his resigned look. "However, the Lord of the Dead has called to our attention a matter most interesting... and so our judgement is limited by this new insight. Yet, you have killed a god, and you must be punished. You will be released to the mortal world, without use of your powers, without any contact from the mortals. You will spend seven days and nights in the mortal world, and will be watched. If ever so much as crime, or a word against should slip from your lips, you will be brought back for harsher punishment. Understood?" Shivasu was now aghast.

Enos bowed as far as he could with the chains. "...Thank you for your generosity with my life. I intend only to peacefully meditate, as usual." The last sentence was a bit more bitter than he intended, but it was drawing the attention back to his last situation. "I wish only to tell my friends that I will be gone, and get my rosary beads." His head bowed peacefully, hiding his smirk of triumph.

Well now Ista was surprised. He had expected something much worse. Like being chained to cliff in underworld and vulture eating your organs every day, or something else as classical. But that was rather light sentence. If Enos would just manage to avoid smashing something in next seven days, all this would be over quickly. What had God of Death revealed to the council, that they had altered their original decision so much? But this was good, now he would not need to do anything too drastic. God of Despair smiled to Enos quickly, and then disappeared from the hall, since trial was over.
