Imperator Ix

It had been hard coming up with a story that would satisfy Blaze. For one, she could see right though him. Blaze could easily tell when Silver was lying. "Look, all I'm saying is that I escaped," the white hedgehog said while trying to look innocent. "So I don't really see what the problem is since I'm already here..." He was surprised that Blaze was as scared as she was when he found her. She was terrified! Did she really care that much? It made him feel terrible, lying to her like this...well, more like hiding the truth, but still. Ix had said not to tell where he was and Silver was determined to keep that promise. He owed Ix a lot. It was the least he could do. "Anyway...sorry I worried you."

One of the runes in Silver's bracelet started emitting dim light in regular intervals, and it almost brought to mind a phone, that had call waiting. If Silver answered, he then heard voice of the imperator: "Sorry to interrupt your reunion, but I would need you here. I have your very first mission for you. Try to come as soon as possible. Ix out."

The rune cut Blaze off of what she wanted to say. Silver blinked and looked at his new bracelet confused. It had been about a day since he'd come back and already Ix was calling? "Uh...Sorry Blaze. I need to see what's wrong with this." He couldn't tell her that it was a communicator to someone who he was pretty sure she didn't know. Maybe she did, she was a princess. But that didn't matter right now. "Yes?" Silver listened. "A mission already? But..." He looked sadly back at Blaze, not wanting to leave her. But he had to choice. "Alright...I'll be right there." Apologizing to his friend, Silver pressed another button on his bracelet and soon disappeared back onto the ARK.

Imperator was already waiting for him, and then started talking before Silver had even managed to open his mouth: "Sorry to call you back so soon, but this is urgent. I have a task for you, one that only you can do." Ix pressed with his finger one particular part of his scepter, and it started showing little image in front of it. "Just few moments ago, one of my nocturians teleported to mobius against orders. This was not as bad, but he also somehow managed to obtain important piece of data from my personal archive in Nocturne. I have really no idea how he managed to take it, or even what did he actually steal, but nonethless, he can't be allowed to give it to anyone who managed to make him good enough offer to turn him into traitor."

Silver examined the image carefully and listened to Ix's explanation. A traitor? These people seemed so loyal to Ix. Why would one of them turn traitor and take valuble pieces of information? Oh well, Silver wasn't supposed to question. Just take action. "Understood. Where did he land?" If he had the general idea, it shouldn't take very long to find that echidna.

Ix continued explaining, and images of scepter changed according to his speech: "that is the weird part. He teleported to old city of overlanders, called Megapolis. It is ruined metropolis, and now one has lived there for decades, and not even Robotnik has paid any interest to it for years. There should not be anything there. But still he went there, knowing that I have locked his teleported, and he can't run anywhere from there. I fear that there is something hidden in there. Your mission is simple. Retvieve the data, capture the traitor, and if possible, try to find out what motivated him to this act."

Nodding, fists clenched, Silver stood his ground. He was ready. "Megapolis. Got it." He'd never been there before personally but he had heard stories. Nobody was living there so hopefully it wouldn't be too hard to find this guy. His new bracelet was turning out to be very useful. Silver had figured out that he could punch in any place on Mobius and go there by this thing. Putting in Megapolis, Silver had his mission and transported away.

Silver appeared on top of a large building, one of many skyscrapers that Megapolis had. It was raining, and bleak ruined city was not very pretty sight. There where old car wrecks and much debris on the streets, reminder of destruction what Robotnik caused when he staged his coup all those years ago to start Eggman Empire. Silver had a tracking device in his bracelet, that could pinpoint the direction of traitor's suit, that had nocturnian technology, but still this city was huge.

Such a desolate wasteland reminded him of his original future. Destruction as far as the eye could see. It was a rarity whenever it rained though. That only came when Angel Island hovered over and the water washed over the destroyed city. For a second it almost overwhelmed Silver. So much destruction, so many memories. But a faint light coming from his bracelet snapped him out of it. "What's it doing now?" Examining it, trying desperately to ignore everything else around him, he found the tracking device. How convenient. "Guess running around ruined places like this all my life have paid off somehow." First thing's first, head towards the source of the tracking.

Tracking signal showed direction to the west, where the center of city was. If Silver would follow the signal, he would sooner or later end to the entracne of old subway station, It seemed that traitorous nocturnian had went underground. However, unknown to SIlver, entrance of subway station was rigged with explosives. Traitor, named Rex, had noticed the energy burst that came when Silver teleported here with his scanners, and had made some preparation in case of pursuers. Of course, echidna could had just dumped his suit, but nocturnian soldier did not want to loose it, because without it he would be almost helpless in fight. And there where still something in this city, something that had been here since Robotnik's army had invaded the city...

"Underground, huh?" Silver couldn't even see the bottom of the stairs. It was pitch dark down there. Yet that didn't deter him in the slightest. Moving down the stairs and holding up his hand, it was enveloped in his signature blue glow, illuminating quite a ways down. This could work for now.

Unfortunately, that didn't help when it came to the explosives. If Silver had been a fraction of a second slower, he would have lost a leg. But his keen senses picked up on the fact that he had stepped on a landmine just in time. Floating high above the explosion, it had managed to catch just a bit of his foot. Nothing too serious though. "Whew..." For now, he'd have to fly to avoid tripping anymore of those.

Rex, walking deeper in the subways, heard the faint sound of mine exploding. It seemed that his pursuers ahd caught up with him. Well, it was not really so bad anyway. He was only short way from meeting point. But then echidna came across some old eggbots, who were lying on the ground. Quick inspection revealed that they were still working. Rex repaired the for moment, and managed to activate half dozen of them. Echidna just sent them towards the direction whre he came, they would meet those who pursued him, and then at least slow them down for moment...

With his whole body glowing now, it was much easier to see in this dark place. No sense in setting off even more bombs. Now it all just depended on how long Silver could use his powers to float like this. He wasn't sure his exact limit. At least this was a nice test.

What the...Eggman robots? "You've got to be kidding me..." There weren't many of them. Was this a joke? Not much for stalling, that's for sure. One swipe of his had made Silver's "threat" of the robots no more. No wonder people were saying Robotnik was loosing his mind.

Rex came to the meeting point. From here track went ito four differenet directions. Subways were just as ruined as rest of the city. It was almost sad to notice all old newspapers and other junk, and maybe even some bones here and there. It was so easy to imagine how people here had lived here in peace, going to the work, and having generally norma life. Rex of course did not really think of all that, he was just a soldier doing his work. Echidna waited, until saw a cloaked figure come to him.

Eerie, and almost mechanical voice said: "Do you have it?"

Echidna answered: "Yes, but there is someone following me.

Dark figure just smirked. "Well then, go and kill him, We don't want anyone telling about this meeting. Give me that data, and go take care of that intruder.

Rex managed to give the data recoder, and then cursed. When Silver's light started coming. White hedgehog was flying after all, so he was travelling much faster than Rex had through all this junk.

Too late for them. Silver had already seen the transaction. Cursing to himself as well, that wasn't good. The information was already given away! He had to act fast. Glowing threateningly, "I suggest you hand that over." He wasn't going to attack yet, though he doubted they'd just hand it over easily.

Cloaked figure looked at Silver, and said almost to quiet to hear. "Silver the Hero? Oh, I guess this makes sense after all." Figure waved his hand towards white hedgehog, and said to echidna: "Kill him, I meet up with you in place we agreed. After saying this, figure pressed a button in it's belt, and disappeared from sight.

Echidna rose his hand covered by nocturnian suit, and blade with humming blue glow appeared from it. "Gladly, this kid is nothing else than trouble. I don't understand why Imperator protects him."

"No-!" Silver growled under his breath. He'd gotten away! Son of a...Well, at least there was someone here to take his agression out on. Silver would just have to beat the information out of this guy. Make him tell where that meeting point is. He was not in the mood for peaceful negotiations now. He wouldn't fail again. Not this time. "Nothing else than trouble, huh? Maybe for you." Honestly, Silver didn't understand why Ix protected him as well. But that didn't matter right now. The blade didn't faze him. He was ready to get this over with.

Echidna just smiled. He was member of elite unit in nocturnian army, that was famous for it's espionage and assasination skills. He had been watching Ix's and Silver's duel from the monitors, exactly like half of echidnas in base had, and knew what white hedgehog could do. "Trust me kid, I am more than you can bargained for. " Echidna assassin suddenly threw a flash grenande towards Silver, and then started running into one of the corridors, intending to make young hedgehog lose sight of him. Echidna was little troubled however by way his employerd had places his words...

Damn flashbangs. How Silver hated them a lot. Dirty trick too. He screeched as his eyesight went white and covered them with his hands as well. This was not a good start for him. Ears twitched, immediately using his other senses to pinpoint Rex's location. As a psychic, he was used to using his ears and giving up on his eyesight. But that didn't mean he had to be blinded. "I don't know...Haven't impressed me so far." An obvious bluff as Silver focused solely on hearing footsteps.

Rex did not bother to answer, that would only make it easier for Silver to pinpoint his location. Echidna jumped on pile of debris, and then to then clinged into pipe that was just under ceiling. Rex's suit silenced his movements somewhat, and echidna was talented sneaker. Plan was rather simple. Silver would come here to look for him, and Rex intended to drop on him from his hiding spot, and then strike him with his energy blade. Echidna went between two pipes, and then stayed there, confident that young hedgehog would not notice him before it would be to late.

For once, Silver was wishing his fur was a different color. Even without his glow, he was still easy to notice in the darkness, purely because he fur was so bright. It would be impossible to hide from this guy for enough time to get his eyesight back, especially with his target so good at espionage. For now, Silver's back was against a wall so Rex couldn't get him from behind. And he listened for the other's movements. Nothing. Did he leave? He opened his eyes slightly and was relieved that some things were coming into focus from what the darkness actually didn't conceal. And the echidna was nowhere around from what he could tell. Just great. He wandered around, making sure to keep close to a wall, while he listened for any movements.

Rex followed young hedgehog, and just smiled. Silver had no real experience from fights like these, and echidna was going to use every advantage he had. since psychic could easily immobilize him if would be able to see him. Assassin took small stone, and then throw it into the floor. Stone hit the ground with almost no sound, but still it could be heard. Echidna went little deeper into his hiding place, and waited for Silver to come and look what had caused the noise. It was good thing that young hedgehog was almost blind here with this darkness, and Rex had complete nightvision sensors in his suit.

Another ear twitch and Silver's head turned towards the sound. Was that him? The white hedgehog made his was over to what he assumed was the place that made the sound. No, he couldn't hear anything anymore...And he couldn't see anybody around with his limited eyesight. Not a good sign. He was away from the wall now and hurriedly tried to make his way back to it. Not noticing the shadowed figure in the pipes above him.

Less experenced assassin would had probably shouted some sort of victorius line when falling towards Silver, but Rex did not bother, and rather kept element of surprise as long as possible. Echidna dropped on white hedgehog, and tried to both slice him with his arm blade, and also make him fall to the ground, preferrably so echidna would be on the top of wrestling mobians.

Lucky for Silver, he managed to hear the swift noise of the blade just before it touched quills, ducking onto the ground. However, that still allowed Rex to go along with the second part of his attack. Once Silver felt a weight on top of him, he knew dodging that sword strike was the least of his worries now. How could he get caught so easily?

"You lack killer instinct boy, that is why you are weak. You would not had survived even a single day in Twilight Cage." Echidna stabbed again and then again at Silver, determined to at least injure young hedgehog somehow, before he would have chance to do his magic, or rather psionics in this case. Rex was stronger than Silver in ear physical strenght, and assassin was using that as advantage, trying to at best of his ability to keep young hedgehog's face on the ground, and not give him time to concentrate.

It certainly was hard to concentrate with his face forced into the ground and the stabbing going on his back. If Rex listened hard enough, he could hear Silver's muffled screams. It was the last straw for him. Personally, he'd had enough of getting injuries. Durring a small pause from the stabbing, Silver took a deep breath and threw his hand out behind him as best as he could, ignoring the blinding pain it caused his back, and threw Rex across the room. Immediately standing up just in case. "D-doesn't matter...I can still take you out!"

Echidna grunted when hit the wall, but did not stay down. He had not managed to do any serious injury, but at least Silver was bleeding now, and would at least fight little less effectively because of his numerous small wounds. "Can you?" Rex started running towards Silver, activating his arm again, and turning it from blade to cannon. Echidna came at young hedgehog, shooting blasts of energy, and trying to once again enter close combat, where he had advantage. "To me it seems that you are the one whose blood is filling the floor."

Silver took some initiative and picked up a piece of rubble from the ground. It crumbled when the blast hit it but at least it served its purpose. The white hedgehog continued to do this while runing towards the exit, or at least what he hoped was the exit. Hopefully he'd be followed up there. "Nothing new. I can handle this. You should worry about yourself."

Rex kept running and shooting, but in the run changed his arm cannon into yet another weapon, that looked like claws of some sort. "Well I guess you are used to get beaten by others, little whiner as you are. And you are forgetting one thing." Rex pressed another button in his suit, and disappeared, only to appear in front Silver just before white hedgehog had managed to get into the street from the stairs. Assassin tried to kick young hedgehog back down, and then jump after him. "I know what I have to do to kill you, you can't say the same."

"And you're forgetting something," Silver grinned, managing to catch Rex's kick and stopping him in his tracks. "I know all about your little suit, what it can do and all that. Your past leader told me." Past leader, because he wasn't coming back after this. Using his powers, Silver managed to push Rex all the way out of the abandoned subway and into the outside. Now he could see, the flashbang's affects were gone. "Who said I was staying the same?"

Echidna was honestly surprised about this turn of events, but just smiled some more. "You can't win by throwing me around, and I can win by stabbing you in the eye." Rex again came closer, and this time kicked a small stone in the ground towards Silver's face, before leaping at him again. He had to act quickly enough that young hedgehog would not have time to react. It was still raining.

Now that his target was in plain sight, Silver had no trouble knowing what Rex was going to do. Kicking a rock at him. Was he serious? He didn't even have to move his arms to stop that thing in its tracks. Unfortunately for Rex, that wave of energy included him too. Silver was so calm now, but inside he was raging. It was obvious he was not in the mood to be messed with and being stabbed before certainly did not help that. Perhaps Iblis had left more of a residue inside of him than even Ix realized. The white hedgehog had absolutely no qualms of manipulating Rex's every movement to his will. That included bending his back a little too far than it should be. And he was enjoying this.

Rex indeed found himself suddenly floating in air, and a small shout of pain escaped from assassin, when his spine was near the cracking point. "Well, it seems that Ix's new errand boy can bite after all." Echidna could not move even when he tried, and was just waiting for Silver to move him little closer to white hedgehog, so assassin could use his claw. "So, what you intend to do now?"

Silver put a hand to his chin, like he was pondering something. "I'm not sure. I could always twist your body around so much that it could never possibly heal. Or break every bone in your body. Maybe have you slit your own throat with those claws of yours." He pointed to them.

"Or...you could tell me where the person who hired you went and I might let you live." Might being the keyword in that sentence.

Rex was used to threats, but still echidna blinked few times too much when Silver listed what he could do to him. Well, now it was about wich one of them would have enough guts..."And please elaboriate why I would do that, since you could just snap my neck when I have told you. What proof I have you don't just throw car at me when I tell you where I am supposed to meet him?" Echidna was almost ready. Claw in his left hand was not a melee weapon unlike it looked, but it still needed few moments to recharge...

"Because unlike you, I always keep my word. If you tell the truth, I'll let you live. I guarentee that." And he would know when Rex was lying. It was easy to check a specific place in the abandoned city for lifeforms with his bracelet. He could always do that without Rex's help but this way was so much more convenient. He didn't have to search the entire city for lifeforms. "And even if I did throw a car at you, I know you'd have some way to defened yourself. I'm sure you learned at least that for Ix, unless you're more pathetic than I thought."

Rex just chuckled a little at Silver's remark, and then said: "Yeah, we have both learned thing or two from him. It was my job to get that piece of data and give it to my client, so I guess it won't be so bad if that thing has to deal with you afterwards. Say, you let me free of this hold of yours, and I tell you where to go? We both know that I can't best you in the open. I might be a traitor, but I am not a liar."

Silver scoffed. "A traitor and a liar are pretty much the same things. Why in the world should I release you when you haven't told me anything? I'll release you when you've told me what I want to know. Then you can do whatever you want, I don't care." It was up to the Imperator what he wanted to do with this traitor. But Silver at least let up his hold a little, so Rex's back wasn't bending the way it wasn't supposed to anymore.

Echidna thought for moment his choises, and then decided to bet on Silver's honesty. "Allright, I tell you. Meeting point is there." Rex managed to rise his finger and point at most probably tallest building in all city, that loomed on horizon behind Silver. "We were supposed to meet on top of that tower, it is where overlander leaders used to live when this city was still in use. I bet it is right now watching us from there." Echidna had one last trick up in his sleeve, now it was just about Silver making one mistake...

Silver rose a brow, honestly surprised that Rex revealed this information. Now the question was, is it the right information? Checking his bracelet and making sure the echidna was still trapped, it scanned the area around where Rex had pointed for life forms. One. It was a safe bet then. This place was abandoned. Hopefully that was the right guy. "It's watching us, huh?" Even so, Silver still had a job to do. He started walking away, releasing his hold on Rex when he was a safe distance away. He always kept his promises.

So did Rex, but he had not at any point promised not to try to kill Silver again. Echidna hit his hand on the ground right after Silver released him, and activated his arm weapon. In one second, huge electrical wave spread through the water on the streets, hitting Silver also. It was good luck that it was raining, this trick would not have worked otherwise. Rex kept his arm on the ground until young hedgehog had collapsed to the ground from continual shock or otherwise being distracted for moment, and then teleported again in front of him, claws trying to slice young hedgehog's throat wide open.

Oh boy, he knew this feeling all to well now. Once he heard that spark, Silver felt his breath hitch. Having being shocked nearly to death only a few days before had left Silver with a very irrational fear of lightning. Kind of like Sonic's fear of water. He screamed in agony as the shocks coarsed through his body and hating this familiar feeling. He'd never forget it. And he'd had enough. Silver collapsed and almost didn't feel Rex coming for his throat.

Almost.

His eyes flared, now beyond angry. His hand shot out, grasping the claws in his hand. Not even flinching as they tore through the skin on his palm. Grasping the claws and yanking them off, Silver slashed right back with them. He didn't care where he was aiming, he just wanted this person to pay.

Rex's victorius smile disappeared when echidna saw the rage in Silver's eyes, this was not good. Echidna was surprised at young hedgehog's strenght, and had no real time to react before Silver had suddenly tore claws from his hand, and then stabbed him with them. Assassin grasped when with more or less sheer luck, young hedgehog hit the claws into his chest through echidna's suit. Rex took step backwards, but then suddenly snarled angrily, and started strangling Silver with his hands, determined to finally kill him. Echidna had removed his helmet when young hedgehog had released him, and now stared with eyes full of determination at Silver's face. Assassin did not really care that claws went deeper into his chest at the same time, and just continued. Blood was already falling to the Silver's hands from echidna's wounded chest, and this whole situation would had looked rather gruesome if someone would had watched, and someone indeed did.

Breathing was not important anymore. Silver gagged slightly as the grip on his neck tightened mercilessly but dug the claws deeper into the other's chest. Once it was obvious Rex was not going to let go, and before he got too lightheaded, Silver blasted Rex away with his powers. "I warned you..." Silver growled while standing up and rubbing his neck, coughing a few times. He loomed over the now helpless echidna, glaring twice as harsh as before. Reaching down and ripping the claws out from his chest. "I am not in the mood for this." Taking advantage of his now worst fear was crossing the line. Without mercy, Silver slashed at him again and again. "This is for before!" The white hedgehog was referring to when Rex stabbed him in the back when they were underground. "And this is for your betrayal!" Just like that, Silver was out of control. Rex's back was bent all the way and a loud crack rang out. His spine was shattered.

Echidna screamed in pain when Silver slashed him again and again, but then Rex's screaming stopped when his spine cracked. Assassin was staring at white hedgehog with face full of fear, blood dripping from his mouth. There was blood everywhere, and even Silver's normally white fur had slight crimsom coloring in it's edges. Water under them turned red, and almost like mocking Silver that there was no coming back, rain stopped, so blood was not even washed away. For a small moment, even city seemed like little darker, and it suddenly became much easier to see misery and pain people had endured here, before they had been mercilessly butchered. Rex was just newest visitor in this city, who would never leave. Sometimes death was peaceful, but bloody corpse that echidna had became, could not have been more repulsive.

"...Hmph." Silver turned his head away at the disgusting sight. He set his sights on the building that Rex had pointed to before he died, before something hit him.

He'd just killed someone.

Silver didn't make it very far. His eyes widened and his breath caught in his throat, falling to his knees. "W-what...what did I just do..? How could I have..." He looked at his hands and saw the blood running down onto the earth beneath him. Now he clutched his knees, head down low and tears mixing with the falling rain. How could he have done such a thing? He didn't even care before! What was wrong with him? Silver couldn't even bare to look back at the damage he did. It was too awful. "I...I...oh my g-" The drenched hedgehog didn't get a chance to finish his sentence before whatever was in his stomach came back up, yet washing away instantly. "What's wrong with me...?"

Things were not going to turn any easier. Echidna's one arm suddenly rose a little just for second, and then hit the ground again with loud splash. Rex was somehow still alive, clinging to last ounces of life in his broken body. Assassin somehow managed to turn his head one last time towards Silver, and managed to stare at white hedgehog for small moment, before anger finally left his eyes, finally having been overcome by cold of death.

The splash caught his attention, looking back shocked. He was still alive? A bit of happiness swelled within Silver and he stared right back into those eyes. Filled with anger but he didn't care. At least he was alive, right?

Wrong. Just as soon as he saw that anger, it vanished and was replaced with nothing. A blank look. Now he knew Rex was dead, killed by his own hands. The tears returned. "No..."

It was silent for moment, and then suddenly someone started laughing. Voice of laughter echoed everywhere around Silver, clearly mocking him. It continued and continued, with no signs of stopping. It started raining again, altough not as much as it had used to. But still that voice kept laughing. It was male, and not very old, but it still managed to sound more cruel than it should had been able to.

Silver didn't even notice the laughing at first. He was lost in his own world for a while. But once he realized it, his anger returned. And it scared him a little. That anger was what killed Rex. If the person laughing wasn't careful, it might be turned against them too. "Who's there...?" Silver growled, standing up. How dare they laugh! Someone just died!

A cloaked figure walked into view. It was most probably same person who had took the data earlier. It laughed some more, and then said: "Sorry, this is just so amusing. I would had thought that Rex could had at least managed to injure you properly before getting killed." Figure walked to dead echidna, and then kicked his body sneerfully. "But you are even more pathetic. I guess things here are really different."

That made Silver stand up, growling even more. He may have killed Rex but he never would have kicked his body like that. Never! "What are you doing?! You hired the guy, right?" To Silver, it almost sounded like he had expected Rex to die. But that couldn't be, could it?

Figure nodded, and explained still using same mocking voice: "Yes I did. But I never really did believe that he could kill you, you have too much Chaos energy in you. I am little curious though. Why are you working for Ix? Especially if you don't have enough guts even to kill your enemy who is trying to kill you, and not cry because of it later on." Figure took hold of Rex's dreadlocks, and then pulled his body up, and showed his bloody corpse some more to Silver. "You did do quite good work, he is even little more dead than I expected him to be, with spine in pieces and all that."

Silver flinched horribly when the figure grabbed the corpse by the dreadlocks. This person had no soul. He held his hand out, taking the body from the other's grasp and setting it down gently by his side. "You wanted him to die? What's wrong with you?" Silver didn't bother to answer the other's questions. Why should he?

Cloaked figure did not resist when Silver took the corpse, and just laughed at his remark. "What's wrong with me? Better question is that what is wrong in you? If you are such crybaby with violence, why did you mutilate his body so much? And I am so interested about you only because I know your reputation. There where I come for, you are called Silver the Hero. But you don't seem so heroic to me, considering you the passion you had when you killed Rex." Something else than his personality was wrong with cloaked figure also. It's lines seemed little blurry, and when you looked carefully at it's stature, it had a strange body shape under it's cloak.

"....Hero?" What was this guy's problem? He'd never heard anybody call him that. He was no hero anyway. Aparently unlike this person, he actually had ]emotions, including regrets. He'd never killed anyone before this. But now...he was starting to get that feeling again. The anger was coming back, directed at this deformed...whatever it was. "I never said I was a hero. Never was. I was just...angry." Silver began to glow again. "And if you know what's best for you, you'd get out of my sight."

Cloaked figure laughed some more, which probably was not wisest thing to do, but laughed anyway. "Yes, angry. And now are going to do the same thing to me? Crack my spine and so on, just because I annoyed you little? I doubt it, since I have this." Figure took from his pocket a small machine. It was a data recorder Rex had stolen. "I wonder, if you were not even ready to kill, what would you say, if I would tell you what is in this little machine? Ix never told you what is in it, did he?"

What scared Silver even more was that he was almost considering it. It wasn't the fact that this figure was disturbing him, but the fact that he would mock his own fallen minion. The lowest of the low, someone Silver couldn't show mercy to. But once he brought his target out, that made Silver stop. He was going to tell? No, Ix had never said what exactly that information was that Rex had stolen... "And why should I believe you'll tell me the truth on what's on that disk?"

Cloaked figure laughed again, and then pressed a button in recorder. Suddenly it projected some sort of image in air in front of it. It was a cannon of some sort, with multiple readouts and charts flashing around it. "Because I will show it to you. These are blueprints of a weapon of mass destruction. A weapon that will probably be built in Ark, since it's vast size makes it difficult to build anywhere else. That is why that old geezer what so relentless about it. He does not want anyone else to know, that he is planning to build a weapon, that would make Ark's original cannon to look like child's toy. Do you want to get this back to Ix? So he can have a power to kill thousands of people by pressing a button? How could you aprove it, if you can't accept even one death? Please tell me." It did not make sense why figure would had showed this information to Silver, unless he hoped that it would make young hedgehog to betray Ix, but still, it was a risky gambit, bringing Silver's target into plain view.

A giant cannon? Silver wasn't even aware that the ARK even had the Eclipse Cannon. And now Ix was planning to build one even stronger? The white hedgehog's eyes widened when examining these blueprints. It was all there. Written in a languange he couldn't understand but the pictures and the figure's words were enough to put the pieces together. "I..." His mind was racing. Should he return this? And if he didn't, what would this guy do with it? Maybe he should just destroy it...

No, he wanted answers. If Ix didn't give him any, he wouldn't be seeing those blueprints again. Silver got into a fighter's stance. "I still need those. We can do this the easy or hard way. Your choice."

"So you still want it back? Have you evev thought why I stole it? Are you ready to fight me, if my reason was so it could not be used, and Rex betrayed his people only because did not want to have part in mass genocide? Would you be ready to take it back, and then give it to Imperator, who did not even bother to tell you what you were getting back?" Figure closed the recorder and kept it in his hand, and then took fighting stance also. Strange thing was, it was exactly the same that Silver had taken.

"Who's to say you won't use it for the same exact thing?" Silver had no intention of giving it back to Ix if it really was what he just saw. Nothing like that should be allowed to be created. "And what makes you think I'll give it back to him?" The white hedgehog had to raise a brow. It was almost like looking into a shadowed mirror. He'd seen them before where he originally came from. Fighting a shadow of yourself. What was this guy planning to do? "Any way you look at it, that thing's not going to be built."

Cloaked figure laughed once again, and then said: "Give it back to him? Do you really think you can fool him? I doubt you have suddenly became such a good liar, that you can just make him to believe I destroyed it or something else like that. How do you know, that he is not listening us right now, using that bracelet you have?" Figure smiled under his hood, and then continued: "But I would not rather fight, it agreed not to do it when I came here, and we all have to follow the rules."

"Even if he is listening, I'm still not giving it to him until he answers some questions." And even then Silver still might not give it to him. Personally, he didn't want to fight either, but it looked like he might not have a choice if this guy wouldn't give it to him. "Fine then, what are you going to do with that information?" And what rules was he talking about?

Cloaked figure was clearly enjoying Silver's confusion. "Oh, that is something I am not allowed to tell. But let me show you something else, you will probably find it most interesting." Figure started chanting something, and started almost dancing, like it would be part of some sort of ritual. Then suddenly they were not in Megapolis anymore. Instead, they were standing on cliff, it was night. "Please look behind you, I am not attacking you. I am not allowed to harm anyone." Behind Silver was truly horrible sight. There was a great city, but it was in flames. Sky itself looked like polluted and burning, and even ground they were standing on was devoid of any life. "This is what will happen if you continue following Ix. Whole world will be in this state. And you can believe it will be, I was there all that time when it happened."

Silver eyed the weird figure curriously. The depicted dance transported them to something Silver found very familiar. Very much like Megapolis, but with everything on fire. Yes, this looked exactly like his original future. "But...how?" Is this what that cannon was supposed to do? And how did this person know all of this? "You were...there?"

Figure walked also the edge of cliff, just few meters from Silver, and then said, suddenly with a very calm and almost friendly voice. All malice and evil had disappeared from it's talk. "As you can probably guess, I am not from this world, or from this timeline. And this is what that cannon will do. But do you know what is best part of it all? It will not be Ix who pressed the button that killed almost half of this planet, it will be you."

OOC: This gives rather good idea what they see.

Part 2, this one was little shorter than last one.

Ah, so his intuition was correct. For Silver, it was easy to tell if people traveled through time. He felt it with Ix and certainly felt it around Sonic. This person had it too.

"What...?" Silver was too stunned for words. He had to be joking. "That's crazy! Why would I...I would never!" The white hedgehog was quite offended of the accusation, yet he couldn't help but get the weird feeling of Deja vu. Getting a taste of his own medicine, much? This all just felt way too familiar.

Cloaked figure just laughed little, and then said, at the same time gesturing towards burning city: "Yes you would, and I can tell you why. To sum it up, overlanders were concerned how succesful you and Ix were, and launched full scale nuclear attack against you, and against all mobians. Ix had already been defeated by Sonic and his friends who had been tricked to help humans, who intended to kill all mobians in one strike. You had a choise. Either do nothing, and let all mobians everywhere, including yourself to die, or then stop the attack. And only way to do it, was to destroy all nuclear launch sites humans had. And guess what was only way to do it, before attack could have been launched?"

So he'd had a choice in the matter...and he'd chosen to press the button. Either that or die. Yet the blast had caused so many other deaths. A Kobiyashimaru in other words. A no-win situation. People would die no matter what he did. Silver understood this. But he didn't understand so many other things.

"So I launched the cannon...but why are you here then? What would taking these blueprints accomplish? All it would do is provide another scenario for Mobians to die...because they launched nuclear war at us."

Figure smiled, and now when it was little closer Silver, he could see that under it's hood, it had iron mask, that covered it's entire face. "but that is the whole point. I do not want world that will end that way. It is too quick." Terrain around them started to shift, and soon they were back in Megapolis, ad Rex's bloody corpse was there also behind them. Silver could maybe notice it, but his wristband was shining dimly, like someone was trying to contanct it, but could not get through very well.

Typical. A mask. Not that he particulary cared what this person looked like. But why hide his face? He never understood that. "Too quick? I don't understand..." What was too quick? The death of the planet? What did that mean? Silver didn't notice at all the runes on his bracelet were going off in alarm. He didn't care either even if he had noticed. All he focused on was this strange figure. Was he Mobian or Human? He couldn't tell, not with the mask on. "When does this happen? How far into the future are you from?"

Cloaked figure actually let out something that almost sounded like laugh, like something in this situation amused it greatly. "Oh, it will happen soon. Within year of this moment. Of course, even if you will betray Ix, nothing will change. Humans will still do the attack, and everyone will die. And even if something would happen and humans would not do it, there are about three other ways how world will be ending soon, but none of them will kill everyone on this planet, I have made sure of that. And who said I am from future?" If Silver would look at him, white hedgehog could see that between the mask and hood, were something that were little wrongly shaped to be proper hair, dreadlocks?

Silver growled. He was tired of this guy making no sense. "So what am I supposed to do?! Why are you here if it's going to happen any other way? And how do you know all of thi-" He was stopped in his frantic questioning with something that Silver just couldn't believe.

"Wait, what? You're not from the future? Then how..." The white hedgehog was way beyond confused now. None of this was making any sense. He put a hand to his head, his vision starting to spin. What was happening to him? He was so angry...but why? Too many unanswered questions were swimming around in Silver's head. It was maddening.

Masked figure did not stop at that, and only increased white hedgehog's confusion. " I am here, because I want you to know, that there is no hope. World will burn! But that will not be end, it will be just the beginning. There will be much more despair and misery before it will be over." Figure rose it'sbandaged hand, and touched Silver's hand. Instantly, white hedgehog would be going through most horrible experience of his life. He saw a world, where everything was dead, where everyone was gone. He saw Blaze's bloody corpse, Rob's just as mutilated body, even Ix's dead body, that was covered in blood. And then he saw himself, walking in that sea of bodies in that dead world, alone, forever, being haunted by memories of everyone had loved. That one instant, overwhelming amount of despair, saddnes and misery invaded Silver's mind, and tried to mentally break him, make him become insane because of that horrible world that he saw. And dark figure just smiled, and did not let go.

He'd managed to back away only slightly as the figure stalked towards him, saying those horrible things. "D-don't come any closer..." But Silver was too stunned to get away. As soon as their hands made contact, the white hedgehog's face went blank, his mind somewhere else completely, while his body collapsed to the ground.

"Blaze! BLAZE!" She was the first one he saw. There was blood everywhere, her blood. Her eyes were open yet they were lifeless. No pulse, no breathing, nothing. The same was with Rob, and even Ix. He'd never felt this much despair before. This was not happening.

On the outside, the figure could make out the soft begging coming from his victim. "Make it stop, make it stop..."

Masked figure just laughed, grabbed Silver by his chest, and pulled him up to same level where his masked face was. And then it spoke, with voice, that suddenly sounded like pure despair "It will not stop, not before you understand it. You shall be mine, your heart broken, your body mutilated, and your mind shattered. I have planned this for over three thousand years, and it is finally starting to happen. And when everything is over, you will walk in that changed world, with only death and misery to comfort you, because that is what I will." More pictures of carnage and death filled Silver's vision, more his loved ones dead, and with more terrible images. And worst of all, grim knowledge, that it would continue forever, and all that time, white hedgehog would be alone....

It was common knowledge, at least to Blaze, that Silver hated being alone. Seeing her dead, seeing everyone he cared about dead, and knowing he was alone...was impossible to describe. He even saw his parents. They had been killed years before and seeing them like this just made Silver want to die himself.

Yet he could hear every word of what was said. "Why...me?" He whimpered softly. "What do you want from me...?"

"Why? You dare to ask me why? Because you are one of Three Hedgehog Heroes, and there is troublesome prophecy, that says, that if you three will stand united against me, I shall lose. Sonic is already dead to my knowledge, killed by rocket when he was in hospital as you most likely clearly remember, and shadow will be under by influence, he has too many regrets over his past to escape me." Dark figure laughed some more, clearly enjoyniing mental torture that he was doing to Silver's mind.

It hurt to hear him talk about Sonic and Shadow like that. But Sonic was dead. He'd seen it, he'd found his body. He didn't know Shadow very well, but Silver knew he was a very secluded person. Whatever dark secrets he had, could they really be used against him like that?

"Make it stop...please..." It was getting to the point where Silver was wanting to die. Anything to make this stop.

He could feel it. Silver's resistance was almost broken, just a moment more, and white hedgehog's mind would be completely scarred by visions he showed to hedgehog. But then something happaned. Silver's bracelet started emitting white light, and then there was bright flash, that interrupted cloaked figure, who dropped Silver to the ground, amazed, because Ix had just appeared in front of him, and was just behind young hedgehog on the ground.

Old echidna stepped over him, and was now between dark figure, and young hedgehog, clearly indicating that masked echidna would have to through Imperator to get Silver.

Just when Silver felt like he was going to die, something happened. Maybe it was death. The visions had stopped and his mind was left a blank slate. Though they still haunted him, at least they weren't being forced into his mind anymore. Maybe he was dead, because this was bliss.

Apparently not. Things started to come into focus and had to blink twice in order to convince himself that it was really Ix standing above him. "Imperator...?" Disbelief was clearly evident. How did he get here?

Dark figure just looked angrily at Imperator, and then said with mocking voice: "Came to save your new toy? Useless, his mind is already broken, I am rather sure he won't be much use to you anymore, so you can just give him to me, and I will give your precious blueprints back, deal?"

Old echidna was silent for moment, and then said last words of invocation. Wave of chaos energy hit masked echidna, who stepped little backwards. It seemed that Imperator was not going to give young hedgehog to this mysterious creature.

A little dazed and haunted by those terrible visions, Silver could barely focus on the two. Another minute of that and his mind surely wouldn have been shattered. Luckily, Ix came just in time. He could only make out a few words of what was said. Give him up for the blueprints. Silver was sure Ix would take that offer.

When he wasn't handed over, the white hedgehog looked up confused. No? Why not? Ix could have easily gotten the prints back. He'd failed in this mission...just like all the rest. And his first one for Ix as well. It would have been much to his benefit to hand him over.

Dark figure did not seem to be even barely injured by the chaos bolt, and just started staring at Imperator, black spheres of pure void trying to break mind of old echidna.

Surprisingly, Ix did not react even slightest, and just stepped back to Silver, grabbed young hedgehog's hand with his own, and then pressed button in his belt. Flash of light, and they were gone from Megapolis on their way to Ark, leaving dark figure alone, with body of Rex in front of him.

Masked echidna stared at empty space where they had been for moment, and then started laughing, before turned back and walked away, disappearing in the shadows. There was still time for him to get Silver later....

And then they were back on the ARK. How? Silver didn't even bother to question. No need to anyway. Him and Ix had ended up in the ARK's main hub. The white hedgehog's blank looks was still there, the images still flashing around in his mind. Why wouldn't they go away? It was like they were stuck there.

"I'm sorry..." he muttered to Ix. Apologizing for his completely failed mission. He'd almost had it. But almost wasn't good enough in this case. He'd even killed a person in the process. Was he even supposed to do that? Ix didn't specify...

Old echidna gently put Silver to the ground, and for the first time, actually looked at young hedgehog's eyes after appearing. Ix's eyes were surprisingly not showing any anger, only worry. "No need to. That thing caught you by surprise, and I am right now more worried about you, than some blueprints. Sorry by the way, that I did not tell what they were, confusion he managed to cause in your mind with them were probably the reason he could invade your mind so easily. I do not accuse my subordinates of failing, if mission was more than originally intended." Ix dropped down to his other knee, and then started gesturing another spell, placing his hand on the Silver's chest at the same time.

"But..." The white hedgehog just sat there, unable to finish his sentence. He couldn't admit to what he'd done. He knew Ix had killed before, but it was just so hard to accept. Silver still couldn't understand what had come over him to get himself so angry. Angry enough to kill. He didn't protest when Ix put his hand on him. He didn't care what the aged echidna would do. All of this was just too much to take in. "Why didn't you tell me?"

Impererator said last words of spell, and chaos energy started going from his scepter to Silver. It healed those few injures Silver had, and also made him feel little better. It did not remove those memories, but washed away small amount of despair they caused. "Because I knew that you would ask me why I had them. It was a test of sort, to see would you be able to get the data back, without checking what it was. Now I see I should had told you about them."

"Yeah..." To be honest, Silver didn't even think about looking at the blueprints once he had aquired them. It just never came to mind. Maybe that still was what Silver wished would happen. But he had to know now. What in the world was Ix planning to do with a weapon like that. He eyed the echidna warily. "Well?"

Ix sighed, and then surprisingly, smiled sadly. "I am not proud about that weapon, but it is true, I intend to build it, into this very Ark. But I am not going to try to destroy the planet below us, like Eggman did. I designed that weapon myself, and it is true that it can create terrible destruction, if used with full power. And that is the reason why I will build it. Sooner or later, Eggman or overlanders will probably came to conclusion, that me and my people are too dangerous, and will try to destroy this station, where hundreds of my people are already living. That weapons is going to work as insurance against that outcome. If they intend to massacre my people just because I want peace, and them to stop their meaningless wars, I believe I have right to defend myself and my people. I said you already, peace will not come with talking and idealistic belief that everyone will accept peace."

Silver listened and stared at the echidna as he explained. The white hedgehog's figure seemed casual but his eyes...there was something off about them. "I see. Not like I could stop you even if I wanted to." He wasn't part of this clan. Never was and never would be. By this point, he really didn't care what happened. In fact, he already knew. That strange guy had told him. Those visions had messed with his head a little too long. Silver sounded so...uncaring. "Just don't tell me where it is." The words that person had said to him still echoed through his head. He'd use that cannon.

Ix was hurt my by that remark than he should have been, but white echidna just sighed again. But then Imperator noticed the difference in Silver's voice, and strange stare in his eyes. Ix suddenly became very worried, what that thing had done to young hedgehog. "You could. If you would want to stop that cannon from ever coming to be, you could just strike me down now. I can barely stand, since it took all my power just to stop that masked echidna from tearing my mind apart. I am rather sure, you could kill me right here and right now, and then use your bracelet quickly enough to escape my people. Then you could go to the Sonic and his friends, they would welcome you as hero, when you would tell them what I tried to build." Ix was also disturbingly calm about this topic. "I do not know that he showed you, but you should know probably first what that thing was, before you believe everything he said to you."

"Sonic's dead," he muttered softly. "I found the body. Barely anything left." Silver then looked to Ix, eyes stern but still very blank. "I'm not going to do that. I'm no hero. Please don't call me that. And don't get me started on killing you, because I won't do that either." He'd already seen Ix's broken and battered body once in those visions. He didn't want to see it again.

A slight pause. The feeling of uselessness coming back. "Besides, I didn't get the blueprints back. That guy still has them. It's going to be hard to build that thing if you don't have the instructions." Silver ignored Ix's remark about what exactly he saw. He'd rather not talk about it and Ix didn't need to know anyway.

"Just because blueprints are gone, does not mean that there are no copies anywhere else." White echidna tapped his forehead, with his finger." I made those plans, I can make them again." Ix sighed again, there was certainly something wrong with Silver. "That thing, fed on your despair, I could feel it. It took sustenance from despair and misery it caused to you. Judging from your reaction, I would say it showed you something terrible either from the past or the future, and then told it's own twisted version of it. And somehow I doubt Sonic is really dead, he has died already, something like two or three times in the past, and always has come back. And his friend Knuckles, wasn't he dead too at one point? And there are also benevolent gods, not all of them are as wicked as Mephiles."

"Then why send me out to get them?" Silver glared at Ix, a little annoyed now. The only thing that had been acconplished was that he knew he was even more useless now. "I know what it did. It told me everything. I honestly don't understand why you didn't just get the prints and leave me behind." So not only was Mephiles after him, but now this guy was. What did he do to deserve all of this? He wondered how Sonic ever did manage through all the stress. "I don't know what happened before I met Sonic, all I know was that he was dead when I found him. Enough said." And enough to talk about on that morbid subject.

Ix was silent for moment, and then poked Silver's forehead with his finger once. "Use that brains of yours please. I sent you to get those blueprints back, because I do not wan another weapon of mass destruction created. Just because I am trying to building a weapon, I do not want that power to be in other hands also, one cannon capable of destroying nation is enough on this planet." When Silver mentioned about deal that it had offered to Imperator, Ix suddenly took one step closer to young hedgehog, and gazes of two met. "What did that thing do to you, if you can't understand even that? I might be practical person, but I will be damned the day I will sentence someone else to get tortured in a way that thing did to you, for my own gain. I do not treat those who work for me as trash that can be sacrificed whenever that would be convinient for me."

Silver didn't know whether or not that person would use those prints or not. According to them, he wanted the world to "die slower" and shooting a cannon would be too fast for it. Ignoring the fact that it was a completely twisted thought, it could probably build it anyway.

As soon as their gazes met, Silver tore his eyes away. He didn't deserve to look the Imperator in the eye. "Would've saved you a lot of problems. I was almost dead anyway and you could have easily gotten something much more useful than me." That was all he could take. Silver quickly stood up, pressing a few buttons on the bracelet. "I'm sorry, I need some time to myself. I'm going back on Mobius. Excuse me." Unlike the rest of the clan, Silver wasn't bound by its rules. He needed some time to think. Just like that, he had transported away.

Ix just sighed again when Silver disappeared, youngsters these days.... "I hope you being with your friends will calm you down. That thing did something to you that can never be undone, but if you lose your resolve to fight, prophecy can't never be completed, and time of blood and misery will come. And that is what that thing most probably wants. He could have killed you, but instead hopes, that you will do something that will help his goals, in that state of mind as you are. Be strong Silver, no one else can take your place." For a fleeting moment Ix thought about following young hedgehog, but then decided not to, and just hoped, that Silver would come back sooner or later.
