I used a fair amount a scenery in here that I'd like to share. Reference for the South Imperial Villa. Very pretty. - The Beach: The water is shallow enough along the shoreline for Sonic to walk. ![]() - The Falls: With rocks scattered throughout to create a pathway. ![]() - The Meadow: Stretches of grassland decorated with wildflowers towards the center of the island. ![]() - The Grotto: A rocky path leading to a private cove. Only fast mobians can reach and clear this area.

Shadow and a few other mobians who managed to figure out what was going on were allowed a few minutes to console Sonic before they had to clear the room for preparations. His friends were told that reconstruction surgery would take anywhere from three to six hours leading Sonic to be heavily sedated for the remainder of the night. Since Sonic was not going to be coherent visitors would not be allowed to see him again until visiting hours tomorrow morning. For that reason the mobians were told to return to their barracks since they would get no news on hour the surgery went unless the unexpected happened. They did not say it directly but there was a small almost insignificant chance that Sonic might not survive the surgery but that was true for any type of surgery. It was a risky gamble but they knew that if they did not do surgery then Sonic would not survive. Various monitoring devices were put on the blue hedgehog to keep track of his breathing, heart rate, and brain functions during the surgery. The last thing to go into place was a mask that would supply him with oxygen and an anesthetic for the surgery. " Okay Mr. Hedgehog - " The anesthesiologist was obligated to tell him what was about to happen. " -we're about to put you to sleep for surgery. You won't feel a thing. " That much was true. He wouldn't feel much of anything once they hit him with the gas. The mask was secured around his muzzle with nylon straps that were tightened at the back of his head. " Now try to count backwards from ten for me. " Most Overlanders were out for the count by four or three. Since mobian bodies were much smaller then humans they estimated that Sonic would be able to get to six at best. This was a measure of how much anesthesia would be needed. If they managed to get down to zero they weren't using nearly enough. Sonic put on a brave face, reassuring his friends and family that he was going to be fine. Even he couldn't think of anything going wrong. He wasn't exactly worried about waking up from the surgery so long as it was successful in regards to his leg. The thought of never being able to walk again frightened him more than anything. As he was brought in though and it was almost that time, Sonic's heart rate did go up a bit. He was a little nervous, after all. But he kept a straight face and abided by the doctors' orders. Here's hoping for everyone's sake that things would work out okay for the blue hedgehog. With whatever was about to happen to Mobius, they'd need all the help they can get. Nodding slightly in understanding, Sonic focused on taking even breaths and counting down. " 10... 9... 8..." The stuff was working fast, he could tell. He was calming down and his voice was slow, his eyelids heavy ... " 7...6... " His eyelids closed, the next number became a little slurred... " 5... " and the number after that didn't follow. As Sonic found it harder to speak he'd find that the world around him was changing. The undeniable pain that he felt throughout his body simply melted away in favor of more pleasant feelings. Wherever he was in that moment was a comfortably warm place. His hard hospital bed was replaced with something much softer. A plush foam mattress dressed in high quality silk sheets. The texture was luxurious against the skin and designed to smooth the fur. This place was warm enough that a comforter was not needed so a thin layer of these expensive sheets were used in its place. They even had an unusual smell from what was usually found with sheets washed in the usual detergents. These smelled like thick lavender and oils that were designed to soothe the body into a restful slumber. Where was he? Not in his hospital room for sure. The room that Sonic was currently in was nothing like anything he'd been in before. A gentle morning breeze brought in from over the ocean filtered through the open space of this villa. The home overlooked one of the most crystalline beaches on Mobius from an elevation just a few hundred feet from the shore. The location of their room allowed for him to see the beautiful rising sun over the ocean since the entire wall opposite of the bed was removed for an open ledge that he could simply jump out of if desired. An unusual sight indeed but what was more unusual was that Sonic was not in the bed by himself. He was currently sleeping cross the chest of another mobian who quietly rested beside him. An arm was wrapped around his waist to pull him into his body while his head laid against his slightly moist neck. They were entangled in an undoubtedly intimate matter. The problem? It wasn't Shadow. Was this a dream? Or had he... No, it had to be a dream. Such a pleasant one at that. The atmosphere was completely different than the chaotic world he left just moments ago. All he felt was peace and tranquility as he relaxed against the body of a warm figure, assuming it was Shadow. Who else could it have been? The thought never even occured to him until he opened his eyes. And even still, he was taking in his surroundings, not so much the person he laid so intimately next to. It was hard not to notice the green fur, however. Sonic breathed in nice and slow, taking in the pleasant smell but let his breath out fast, as if it had been taken from him. Moving back as he struggled to sit up on the bed, he took in the hedgehog that had been with him. His eyes were utterly confused, as much as he had been when he first woke up to this world. " What ... " He looked around again. There was nothing he recognized aside from the moebian on the bed with him. Scourge... But... how? This dream may very well turn into a nightmare. But the setting definitely wasn't something he'd suspect to be chosen. Everything else just felt so right. It was surreal. Slight movement on the bed was enough to stir him awake. He was a light sleeper thanks to the way that he was raised. Having to constantly watch his back at every turn and run away from angry boyfriends meant that he couldn't afford to go into a deep sleep. It didn't mean that he didn't get a full night's sleep. He learned to deal with it quite well and always came out refreshed from it as a result. In response to the movement his droopy pointed ears rose to pick up the sound of a familiar voice. After they rocked back and forth to confirm it his own body moved around to begin the process of getting up. A heavy sigh showed that he was reluctant in doing so since he'd been so comfortable before. His body stretched as his light blue eyes opened to focus on the mobian that was laying beside him. Just the sight of him made him smile slightly. It filled his heart with a warmth he'd almost forgotten in his prior bitterness. No matter how much he'd been 'wronged' in his mind he couldn't deny that he wasn't happy to see him now. " Mornin' babe. " He greeted him with a small yawn escaping his lips. Scourge wasn't quite ready to get out of bed yet. He'd have to settle for getting an early morning fondle. At least that's the way his hand appeared to be going when it reached up to cup his chin. The green hedgehog was sporting some kind of gold accessory on his left wrist that became visible with that movement. A gold ring with emeralds embedded into it. If Sonic got a good look at himself he'd see that he had something similar on his right wrist. It was the ring that crumbled away last night. Scourge was all too casual but the affection he saw in his eyes and heard in his voice was all too real. He's seen it before. Maybe not quite like this, but when he had been captured and held at Scourge's castle when he was King. He had learned there that the green hedgehog had more than just an obsession with him. He wanted him to be his 'Queen.' The title still made him flustered but maybe those memories were coming back from his subconscious? Obviously, this couldn't be real. " I ... " Sonic wasn't sure whether to lash out or run. Instead, he found himself frozen against his hand as he spotted the ring. It didn't occur to him that he had one too until after that. There was definitely a weight on his wrist that he didn't notice before. So what did that mean? If his had crumbled in real life, did it mean the other got destroyed? Obviously they were connected. " Where are we? " Sonic decided to ask, hoping to distract the green hedgehog as he raised his hand to take hold of his wrist to move his away from his hot cheek. It didn't look like Scourge was aiming to hurt him here. He scratched the underside of Sonic's chin with the tips of his fingers and was working his way up to cup his cheek for a kiss when the blue hedgehog started to exhibit some unusual behavior. He didn't want to be pet? Normally his lover was a glutton for affection to the point that it interfered with his work. The smile on his face faltered though it wasn't replaced with a frown just yet. Maybe Blue just wasn't affectionate in the mornings. Green couldn't write it off as Blue just not liking him. That was impossible! He didn't seem too phased that Sonic questioned where they were. In fact he chuckled as he recalled just how they got here. " Sorry for not givin' you the Grand Tour last night babe but we were kind of ... busy. " A devious grin came as a result of his own wording. Last night was something that he'd never forget. He'd never had such passion in ravaging someone in his life! They immediately went to the bedroom and stayed there the entire night enjoying each other's bodies and company. Just the very thought of it was riling him up again. " This is the South Imperial Villa on Westside Island. We started building here months ago but I didn't want to tell you. Wanted it to be a surprise. " Was this Westside Island? Sonic might be able to see that they were in Emerald Hills if he went outside. About five miles away from here on the opposite side of the island was the airstrip that Sonic and Tails used in their adventures many years ago. The old airstrip wasn't looking that old these days. Since they needed to fly in equipment to build the villa the airstrip was expanded and renovated to accommodate modern transportation. It wasn't as if Westside Island was heavily populated these days, though. The villa was the only residential structure on the restored island. Busy? Sonic got the gist of that alright. This dream was a bit too real for his tastes. But now that he mentioned it... there was some sort of deja vu he was feeling. Like a dream, he was starting to adjust to this life as if it was real. He was surprised he could have even told it apart from reality in the first place. But now that line was beginning to blur. What was real and what wasn't? " I see. " Sonic said warily, still feeling a bit drowsy. He just realized then he might have felt a little sore in the backside too. He knew that feeling. But there could be two reasons why he felt sore back there. As he started to forget where he really came from, he preferred this idea much better. " Westside Island? " He stared at him questioningly. This was quite the fancy ordeal here. The blue hedgehog found himself looking around rather than staring defensively at him. His tense shoulders started to relax a little too. He became much more curious about this dream world as he tempted himself to get up and get more of a tour than apparently he got last night. Very busy. Moebian traditions when it came to certain events were different then those of the mobians. Without going into detail Scourge had to wait a month, thirty days, for the previous night. On the day of he rushed the proceedings along so he could spend time with the one who mattered the most to him. Literally whisking him away from the Grand Imperial Palace where they lived to this private retreat where they could get down to the real business. He wanted it so bad that he made ample preparation in the days leading up to it so he could have it, and him, all to himself. Scourge nodded as he began making movements to finally get off the bed. Rather then cross over on his own side he decided to cross over Sonic's side while giving him a blatant show of affection. Crawling on all fours he moved to press his snout and cheek against Sonic's chest and rub the length of his body across it like a feline ending with a slight bump of his hip. His tail wagged for a bit towards the end. " I heard you were fond of this place as a child. When we came to look there wasn't much left of it - " He presumed it was because of Eggman. " - so we had to rebuild. " He slipped off that side of the bed with a light thud. Where were his boots ... or his jacket for that matter? Everything that happened last night was a pleasant blur that only hindered him slightly this morning. " Think of it as my little weddin' present to you. " Scourge looked back at him with a smug grin. Sonic was surprised to learn that Scourge had done all of this. While he was a bit distracted by the way he started to move over him, he wasn't sure what grabbed his attention the most. " You... did all of this for me? " Of course this had to be a dream. Scourge couldn't be so selfless, could he? He knew he had strove desperately to get him before, or what else he could remember while beginning to absorb this new reality. But who would have guessed he could have another side? He thought he was his other side and that Scourge was all he could be. As he stood up, Sonic hesitantly followed, standing up by his side and realizing his shoes were missing too. He started to look for them but stumbled a step when he made that last comment. Looking back at the vibrant green hedgehog, he choked, " W-Wedding? " They... they got married? Just what did those doctors give him? The last thing Sonic wanted to think about with anyone was marriage. It was hard enough to get him to really settle for someone let alone think about something so serious. But... apparently it had happened, and he had been glad? Guess so. " I'm... not sure what to say. " He could take it like he was speechless he was just so happy. Sonic looked towards the window to wander over, thinking, but letting his eyes distract himself with the view. He felt his foot hit one of his shoes while he was at it but took his time putting them back on despite his haste to get outside and explore. " Of course. " Budget be damned he found a way to save at least one part of Sonic's childhood during the Globalization Project. Mobotropolis was gone (again), Knothole had been destroyed), and New Mobotropolis had been refurbished into a more efficient Kingdom that oversaw the whole of Mobius. The project called for what were essentially ruins of the old world to be torn down in favor of modern residences. Many mobians would have electricity, running water, and other common amenities seem in their Kingdom for the first time in their lives now that the project was underway. Scourge didn't want to completely build over the older areas, however. He knew how much this world meant to his lover and tried his best to arrange for some things that were not called for in the original plan. Knothole Village, the place where Sonic grew up, was going to be rebuilt to its pre-city glory and used as a historical retirement community for older mobians. They were currently debating whether or not the old grounds where the original city of Mobotropolis was built would be suitable for life. If not they can always rebuild the old city elsewhere. Green nearly laughed when Blue acted surprised about the wedding. They both knew it was coming though he tried to downplay it. The wedding was one of the most watched events in the Kingdom's broadcasting history. Despite that Scourge was adamant about having the actual ceremony precisely thirty minutes long (the minimum) since neither hedgehog wanted to stand at the altar for hours. What they had was far from a traditional wedding but at least all of Sonic's family and friends could attend. He found his boots and was on his way over to the edge where Sonic stood shortly after. Sonic was acting a bit odd this morning but he chalked it up to him being overwhelmed by yesterday's events and their meaning. He was now the second most powerful person in the world. The literal 'Queen' of the King who managed to unite Mobius in little over a year. The same moebian who wrapped his arms around Sonic's waist from behind to pull him against his chest. " I love you, baby. " He whispered to him softly. " Just say you love me again. " He never got tired of hearing it. |

What was this dream trying to show him? Or did it mean anything at all? It could be just nonsense. When he woke up, he could just ignore it completely. After all, reality and fantasy were completely different things. But there was still the idea of what could have been. Sonic had been close to being the Queen once when Scourge had taken over. Though he wasn't captured for very long, in such a short time, he was able to see a different side to the other. Small, and a side that could have easily went unnoticed, but he recalled an instance where he was able to talk him into giving some of the rebellion (and his friends) mercy once. What kind of influence would he have had if he had went along with it all? Sonic couldn't help but wonder now, and if whether or not, he had made a mistake. But it wasn't something he could have objected to when Shadow entered the scene so abruptly. The time that elapsed then was so quick, he barely had a chance to react and they were gone. Sonic once again tensed up at the arms that went around him. Just briefly surprised, he forced himself to relax. The body he felt next to him was making him feel warm, comfort he found in what was once a black and striped figure. Love? Could Scourge really express such a selfless emotion? He wasn't so sure before but there was no doubting the sincerity in Scourge's voice. Sonic almost smiled. It was amusing, almost touching. " Enough with all the mushy stuff. " Sonic murmured, using his natural attitude to squirm out of having to say it back. He might have felt it, a feeling he would have blamed solely on the fact that it was all just a dream, but he didn't have to say it. " Show me around now, eh? " Scourge's plans had been cut down before they had a chance to get started. That very week the Empire was attacked Project PROMISE was set up to be voted on by the people. Analysts projected the measure would be passed by a modest margin. Moebians (and mobians for that matter) were tired of living their lives in a world filled with constant war and uncertainty. One united Kingdom was what the original King of Acorn wanted. It was just going to be realized under the leadership of another. He didn't seem all that surprised that Sonic brushed him off. His disappointment only lasted for a moment or two as he stepped back to give him his space. Sonic had a tendency to get flustered whenever he showed affection to him in public. That much he didn't mind. He shouldn't have been trying to get one up on him during their council meetings anyway. All he knew was that sometimes when he was alone Blue really did show him how much he loved him. That was all that he needed to know, really. Green found his jacket. It was thrown across the chair pulled up to the desk. He slipped it over his shoulders and felt the weight of his shades inside of it. Once they were back where they belonged he was ready to go. " If you think you can keep up. " That was Sonic's only warning before he shot off from his position in a burst of speed. In case Sonic wasn't quite paying attention or just didn't know to follow his lead he'd give him a little extra motivation ... ... a slap on his backside as he sped past. The villa was designed so they could bypass the stairs and just jump down to the lower level. Once they were outside they just needed to go through the backyard's fence and follow the beaten path down to the beach. There was something that ignired inside of him. A flicker of adrenaline he felt and a warm rush when Scourge challenged him - and even went so far as to smack his behind! Perhaps it was the influence of this new world, but the discomfort he felt around him was beginning to fade completely. He felt a spark of interest in the green hedgehog he never got to know. He thought he knew him but he could have never been so wrong. " Yeah, right. " Sonic was after him in a second. What felt like eternity reacting to that stinging smack to his rump was only a second before he was racing off after him. He had no idea where they were goinng but he couldn't help but love the air against his face, the sunlight and the gorgeous scenery. He pumped his legs hard. Completely forgetting the fact that in another world, he wouldn't be able to reach these speeds for a long time. He hunkered lower, laying his spines back for a streamline effect as he started to catch up, grinning to himself. He was having fun. He didn't hold back an inch for Blue. Nothing less then his best speed would be acceptable for the one he knew could match him. Sonic should enjoy running along the sandy beaches now because they'd have to slow down slightly for the nearly untouched terrain on the interior of the island. When Sonic asked to be shown around he wasn't going to disappoint. With their speed they could go throughout the island in a matter of minutes as opposed to the few hours it took the team surveying to map out everything. This place was beautiful. At the opposite end of the beach where some rocky formations were Scourge took off from the sands and started to climb upwards. It could have been dangerous but the top side of the rocks were usually dry at this point in the morning. The chances of slipping from here were minimal if they moved fast. They'd have to circle around the winding path of rocks and waterfalls to get to a rope bridge that lead them deeper into the island. This island was rich with water though not all of it was deeper then they were tall. Scourge took them over a waterfall that had a narrow path of rocks that they could run across so he could see the beauty of this place up close. That string of rocks took them down under a rock formation of the island where they could run across some larger rocks in a grotto. They had to run and jump for these but it wouldn't be too much for Sonic to handle would it? Heck he wasn't used to running around places like this and he hardly broke a sweat! " This way! " He called back to Sonic once they came out of the grotto. Scourge suddenly ran to the right and down a grassy path so Sonic could see the wildflowers that grew on this island. There were several meadows filled with beautiful flowers that they could run through. When they were together like this warming themselves in the sun these Spring Flowers had a wonderful aroma. It smelled so fresh and clean ... They must have cut clear across the island because there were more rock formations ahead. Scourge set an example by jutting out there first and planting his feet firmly on the ground so he could slide down the incline to the beach below. At the bottom they had to jump and run across the very shallow water (it didn't even come to their ankles) to a quiet resting spot on the beach. It was there that Scourge slowed to a stop. Talk about breathtaking! Sonic had never had a dream like this before. Hopefully not something he'd quickly forget either. The blue hedgehog couldn't get enough of the sights, sounds and smells as he raced along behind Scourge. The green hedgehog kept in the lead for the most part considering Sonic didn't know his way around in the first place. Sonic could only wish life could stay so simple. So... beautiful. Sonic had no problems keeping up despite the crystaline waters that sometimes threatened him. He was great at keeping control of his speed. He had no problems running around the rock formations, across the bridge, and to the beach. A place this nice was a good motivational tool to keep his spirits up and to keep trying to make this a reality. If you want something bad enough, it's bound to happen eventually, right? Seems at least Scourge's efforts in this world paid off. " Wow! " Sonic whistled for emphasis as he came to a stop next to Scourge. " This place is amazing. " And for Scourge's efforts, Sonic had a little prize he plucked along the way for him. He wasn't sure if he liked them, but he raised the flower up for him to take if he wanted. It smelt nice, anyway. " I can't believe you made this all possible ... " There was just a bit of a twinkle in those eyes. Fondness, maybe? That was the type of reaction that he wanted to get out of him with that tour. He just wished he could see the look of wonderment on their face as they were running through all of this. His reaction at the end would have to suffice. His bright mood was enough to make him smile softly. There may have been a hint of red on his darker furred cheeks to. Might have been the way that the sun hit his fur at this angle or what he had in his fingers as he approached. Was that for him? Blue shouldn't have. His nose twitched slightly in agitation even before he could get the flower in his fingers. Scourge had some allergies that made these wild flowers undesirable but he wouldn't refuse the flower, either. He took it in his fingers to study as he complimented the other. " You know that castle we live in back home? That's kind of a present to myself for working so hard to make all this happen. " It was a Hell of a lot of work to do in a year. More then some Kings did in their entire lifetime. " This - " He gestured to the island around them. " - is all a present for you for hanging in here this past year. I know it's been hard for you, baby, so I appreciate it ... " And once again he reached out for Sonic. This time he used his free hand to catch his chin so he could pull him in - " ... and I appreciate you. " - for a - SNEEZE! There it is. He knew that damned flower was going to stir up his hay-fever. Sonic couldn't begin to thank Scourge. And he thought he had to thank him? He doubted it was because of him this place was as nice as it was. If he was capable of such a thing, his reality wouldn't be in the state it was now. As Scourge reached out for him, he tempted to shy away but held his ground. Looking into those eyes, he saw a lot of himself in there. Not the selfless jerk that only enjoyed to bully and gain power. Someone that was capable of good, of caring for others, and... who was apparently allergic to flowers. Sonic flinched back, but couldn't help but look amused. " You know, you aren't so bad yourself. " He reached a hand in to distract him, fingers going for the ear. He only thought to try for there considering how sensitive his own were. Meanwhile, his other hand went to take the flower away as the pad of his thumb worked the velvety inside of a green digit. Wouldn't want him sneezing all over him. Sniff. Well he still enjoyed being King of the Free World and all. It's just that he found that other things could be enjoyable in his life. Every once in a while he'd call in a personal day so he could curl up in bed with a certain blue hedgehog. Sometimes they'd go down to the park and he'd pretend that he was interested in the flowers. Other times they'd go into town and have a light lunch in an uptown cafe. It was strange really. It wasn't just work all the time like it was before. He straightened up a bit when Sonic actually reached out for him. There we go. Now he was starting to act like himself again. His ear was sensitive. It rocked into his fingers in anticipation before laying down as he insisted on that light petting. The flower incident was forgiven and forgotten. He'd savor this moment instead. The hand on his chin moved to his cheek again. Smoothing over the area with the pad of his own thumb he'd settle for a light show of affection. This time he just aimed for a brief kiss on the forehead. " We skipped out on breakfast again. " He pointed out. Running around the island did give him an appetite and it didn't help that he skipped dinner last night in favor of other ... activities. " How about we head back to the villa for a bit? I know four chili dogs that have our names all over them. " Sonic hated to do away with such a perfectly good flower but given Scourge's allergies, he thought it best to just casually toss it aside. He watched him intently, paying more mind now to the way he reacted against his fingers. He didn't exactly ignore the way he caressed him either. The beige fur couldn't conceal the slight pinkish hue beginning to taint his skin underneath. There was definitely something ... charming about this Scourge. But his feelings for the green hedgehog was a bit of a mystery to begin with. He was an enemy upmost and foremost, but the two shared a kiss once before feelings had even stirred for a striped hedgehog that were never delved into. " Chili dogs? " That really got his attention. He seemed to snap out of whatever he was thinking about as his ears perked forward. He abandoned his ear and gave a firm nod. Now that he mentioned it, he was pretty hungry! But then again, when didn't he have such a big appetite? " Race ya back! " This time he could make good of it too. He remembered the gist of the way he came and was certain he could find his way back. Best Scourge keep up too or else by the time he got there, he just might have all those chili dogs eaten! ...And to repay him back for a little incident, a sharp pinch was delivered against his backside. " The best there is. " That old hedgehog Chuck sure knew how to make a mean chili dog. Scourge liked them so much that he made it a requirement for all chefs being hired in the Imperial Palace to know how to prepare them the same way Chuck would. Uncle Chuck still ran his diner in the market district of the Kingdom but there was nothing like having a high quality chili dog prepared hot and fresh in one's own home. Now Sonic could have chili dogs whenever he wanted for free in the comfort of the Grand Imperial Palace. For their honeymoon they'd have to rely on memory since he didn't want to chance bringing a personal chef to ruin their honeymoon. Gasp! That sneaky bastard! He nearly jumped out of his fur at that sudden pinch, eyes growing, but then narrowing when he caught sight of his target in the distance. " You don't want me to catch you, Blue! " He was going right into the shallowest part of the beach whether he wanted to try and swim or not! Scourge knew the other was less then ecstatic about water which was why he enjoyed hanging that fear over his head. He'd never really try to down Blue but he didn't want him knowing that! " Come back here! " As Scourge ran after his now playful lover the scenery around them became brighter and brighter. They could have attributed that to the now heated sun beaming down on the white beach but it was beginning to get TOO bright. To the point that Sonic could no longer see. When the details all around him faded into that white light an awful pain came back to Sonic. All over his body, actually. The worst of it was in the leg that was now covered in a thick plaster cast. It took then ten hours to piece Sonic's leg back together but they did it. Now he can begin the long road to recovery. The bright white light was from a flashlight being shone in his eye by the Head Surgeon. " Can you hear me, Mr. Hedgehog? " Sonic chuckled to himself but didn't look back. He kept running, feeling uplifted, unable to stop. Especially considering the prize that awaited him when he won! Of course, he knew Scourge would put up a good run. He wasn't sure he wanted to find out what he'd do if he caught him either! But he'd be lying if he didn't admit the idea excited him like no other. Sonic squinted his eyes against the bright light, ignoring it at first. He didn't realize something was wrong right away. Then it just became too much. He started to slow down, he felt distressed and a rush of emotions he had banished for this new reality. The pain in his leg was unbearable. His eyes were beginning to focus now, but he woke up rather abruptly. " Scourge? " No, he wasn't around. That was a good thing for this world, right? It was just a dream. Something he realized a little too late as he struggled to sit upright and push the annoying light away from him. So he was conscious. Coherent seemed to be another story since the name that he allowed to slip wasn't what the doctor expected. It was enough to make him relent on the light and pull back. " No. Doctor Quack. " He told his patient flatly. Sonic's words may have been a little disturbing but he'd chalk it up to the anesthesia still being in his system. It was known to make the patients dream of some really strange things. " Well I have some good news for you. The operation too a bit longer then expected but we concluded that it was a success. Given your unusual healing properties we estimate that your recovery time will be a tenth of a normal patient's. Three days of bed rest and four days in a brace all of which you cannot even consider going up to your usual speeds. " All in all it meant that Sonic would be off his feet for a week while healing. This may not have seemed like a long time to patients who spend months recuperating from broken bones but many things could happen in a week's time. Dr. Quack put down some prescriptions on a table beside Sonic's bed. One was an oral pain medication that he'll be weaned on gradually over the next three days. Another was a calcium supplement to encourage the growth of new bone while the last was an energy supplement. He theorized that Sonic would be burning off a lot of energy healing his broken leg so this will help balance him out. " Take one of each when you wake up and another set when you go to sleep at night. " That was simple enough wasn't it? ... there had to be more. " Your family and friends will be down to see you shortly. You'll be able to eat your breakfast while you talk to them. " He pointed over to his 'breakfast' as he said that. Those were not chili dogs. Dr. Quack ensured he'd get none of those until he completely recovered. Instead he'd have to put up with eating bland and lightly: gruel and pink hospital gelatin. Sonic didn't realize what he might have said outloud to the doctor. He was highly disoriented as he separated what was indeed a dream and what was going on now. Apparently he had to go through some kind of surgery. Ah yes, it came back to him pretty fast. Hard not to with a painful reminder acting as his mending leg. Sonic relaxed onto his back again, taking in a deep breath, trying to calm himself and ignore the discomfort. He looked sleepily at Dr. Quack as he explained. A success? Well that was a pretty big relief. His main concern was being able to walk/run again. It was going to be a pain trying to get through the week not being able to do anything though. Especially since the Kingdom was in such bad shape. As he sorted out his medicine, Sonic seemed vaguely interested. He was paying attention though, especially since he would have liked a pain killer now. What the doctor had to say after that was the most troubling since he's awakened to this distraught world. Just looking over at the slop that he was expected to eat made him turn white and want to gas himself again. " Haven't I suffered enough? " Sonic said rather dramatically, ears drooping down as he looked back at Dr. Quack, eyes begging for mercy. " Where's some of those chili dogs mom made? " What was wrong with him havin' one of those? Huh? " No outside food for three days, Sonic. " Dr. Quack wasn't afraid to berate him like a child if it meant he'd listen! " I mean it. Your body has suffered a series of shocks over the last few days to the point where even you need some time to recover. One Chili Dog can be the difference between being able to walk on your own for a week and being in the bed for -another- week. " That was not a gross exaggeration. Since Quack was curious as to how Sonic could heal so fast he did a little research into those Chili Dogs. Turned out they were just junk food with pitiful amounts of essential vitamins. It had to be some sort of miracle Sonic was as healthy as he was eating those! " You should eat that. It's filled with nutrients that will put you on the road to a speedy recovery. " The trade of was that the food didn't have any flavor. The gelatin was just the regular kind in the generic box with some food coloring to make it look nice. The same could be said for the gruel. Bland food was supposed to help a patient adjust easier from surgery. Regular food mixed with the anesthesia could have made him sick! Dr. Quack looked towards the door now. " And hurry. The Commander ordered us to get your friends in to see you quickly so a long list of tests can be done to insure that your bone is realigned smoothly. We also have to draw blood, do another X-ray, and - ... " Dr. Quack just went on and on about the fun filled day that Sonic was going to have here in the hospital. The sheer dreariness of this world now around him could be felt in the antiseptic laden air of the infirmary and its stark sterile walls. Nothing like the sandy beaches that Sonic was on minutes ago. Something told him he wouldn't get much leeway with the doctor. It didn't hurt to try though. It was obvious Sonic was seriously considering the matter of whether or not to risk a second week of bed rest just for a chili dog. Of course, in the end, he wouldn't try for it. But he was going to miss his diet greatly, espsecially if that was the only items on the menu in the meantime. Yeah, he was definitely starting to miss that dream. " Ugh, if I hurry, I'm sure that'll make me sick too. " Just the sight of the food made him make a funny face. He was afraid it'd taste foul. At least when he did try a bite, it wouldn't have much of a taste at all. As Dr. Quack started to explain the outline of what he had to look forward to today, Sonic just stared, eyes growing distant. He lost him at some point, saying way too many things at once, and none of those things sounding the least bit fun or comfortable. " ...Can't I just go back to sleep? " He practically groaned, closing his eyes and leaning his head back again. He was not looking forward to this. |

Not a Spoiler ...

" Just eat it. " It was like dealing with a child! Dr. Quack knew that dealing with a real injury when it came to Sonic would be nothing short of a nightmare. Sonic didn't have to be admitted into the hospital overnight in years. He'd be spending at least the next three days here if they didn't get permission from Commander Tower to move him back to his room. In the very least he would be spending the rest of the day here where they would preform the aforementioned battery of tests to ensure that his leg was realigned properly with no ill side effects. So when Sonic asked the obvious question he received an obvious answer. " Absolutely not. " There was no chance that he would just be able to 'sleep it off'. It didn't matter if he didn't want to do those tests. " We need to make sure that you're healing properly. Since you're leg's your livelihood we want to make especially sure that you will be able to walk just fine on it. You don't want to try limping around with a cane for the rest of your life like I have to. " That was meant to be a jest. He was forced on his cane for completely different reasons. To lighten the mood he thought some friendly company was in order. " Some of your friends are waiting outside. " He mentioned that right off the bat. News that Sonic was injured filtered through the base overnight despite the Commander wanting to keep it under wraps. That meant that he had quite a strong following here in the morning. " We're only allotting thirty minutes for you to receive visitors this morning. You'll be able to see your friends again this evening after the tests are done. " Why so restrictive? Commander's Orders. He didn't want them to waste too much time with merrymaking when there was work to be done. " Is there anyone you'd like to see in particular? " |

Anything to delay eating this stuff. Sonic was sitting up, just about to take a very small scoop and give it a taste when he asked him who he'd like to see. He paused then, the stressful grimace on his face in anticipation relaxing into something much more pleasant. He immediately knew who and couldn't help but feel strangely guilty over what happened in a rather silly dream. "Shadow." Sonic mumbled casually, flicking his tongue out experimentally at the food. It tasted incrediblly bland and he gave a rather desperate look over at Dr. Quack as if to verify that this was indeed the only thing he could eat and to give the cruel and unjust doctor one more chance to show the poor blue hedgehog some mercy.

Sonic was probably wasting his acting skills on someone that saw them from multiple patients day-in and day-out. He might have better luck with the individual that came in the room now. Shadow worked hard to restrain his visible anxiety, forcing himself to walk slower than he would have liked. (As his name was called, he couldn't help but jump to his feet in the waiting area, however.) At least he had turned in the report this time, and now had nothing on his hands to keep him from focusing on the blue hedgehog. He stood next to the bed, watching the plate of indistinguishable matter that fell prey to Sonic's hesitant probing, "How are you feeling?" His eyes shifted up, hoping to meet Sonic's, if only briefly. |

Sonic looked much more eager to talk with Shadow than to finish his meal. Despite Dr. Quack's insistence. While he left to give the two a little alone time, Sonic abandoned his idea to eat right away. He decided to focus more on the striped hedgehog, glad to see him after that tense surgery. He wished he'd learn to relax a little more. "Much better now that you're here... and are going to fetch me my mom's chili dogs." He put on an innocent smile, nice and big. Maybe if he was lucky, he didn't know about the doc's orders of havin' to eat slop for the next week. Though he highly doubted Shadow would be able to bring them in without getting caught. And if he did get caught, he knew the other hedgehog wouldn't let him eat it either. |

Shadow's expression began to lighten at the hedgehog's reply, but fell in realization before he curved his lips in a confident smirk. "Ah, and here I thought you wanted to see me, but you just wanted a delivery boy. " Mm, are you sure that's alright?" His ears perked genuinely and looked at Sonic, then to the food presented. "I suppose it tastes better to you, but I believe that is the healthier option." Who was he kidding? Since when was his own health ever on Sonic's mind? At least it didn't look like he was aware of the rules for the week quite yet, but he wasn't going into it blindly, either. Shadow knew Sonic's usual cocky grin, and this wasn't it. |

Sonic smirked at Shadow's response but he was a little tense when he suggested it was healthier. How come healthy food never tastes good? He'd rather just stuff some vitamins in his chili dogs and actually enjoy what he eats. He motioned with a finger for him to get a little closer. Those eyes promised nothing but trouble. "Is that right? Well, I might be able to force it down me. Otherwise, I can just settle for you." Still as spunky as ever, it seemed. While a broken leg was going to drastically grate on Sonic's nerves over the week or so it was going to take to heal, Sonic seemed to be putting on a rather good show considering he just got out of surgery. |

Ohhh no, he wasn't falling for that. Not with that look. The stern look he gave right back was fixed in place. Not here, not now. As much as he'd like to roam his fingers through that rich blue fur, the Commander's words were fresh on his mind and he could not trust Sonic when it came to out-and-out temptation. Yesterday morning was proof enough that Sonic did not follow the rules, and Shadow was little more than a follower under even the worst influence. His expression changed soon, though, serious and troubled, but less dissident. "I... This may seem like a bad time, but I... Do you trust me?" Edited by Shadow the Hedgehog, Mar 8 2010, 06:28 PM.

Sonic couldn't help but look a little disappointed when Shadow didn't come closer. His ears folded, attempting to suck it up when Shadow got that serious look. One that meant his funny antics would have to be restrained. He looked a bit confused as well when he first asked whether or not he trusted him. There wasn't a doubt in his mind or even a hesitation when he replied. "Of course." |

"How much?" Like Sonic, he didn't miss a beat, but now he was looking away. It would seem he had something pressing on his mind, but he was hesitant or even resistant to talk about it directly. Shadow knew what he had planned was dangerous for ...well, it was more than just their relationship that he was worried about, but that seemed to be at the front of his thoughts for the time being. He stared at the wall, burying his gaze in a particularly blank patch of the structure, unable to face the undoubtedly inquisitive looks he was given. |

Sonic looked a bit uncomfortable. He wasn't sure where this was coming from. Seemed a little random. He must have something very important to say but he couldn't guess as to what. He tried. He tried very hard to predict what he was thinking about before he actually clued him in. "What's wrong?" Sonic pursed his lips thoughtfully, that uneasiness morphing into concern before he decided to brush it off. Maybe Shadow was just feeling emotional since his latest ordeal. He'd be lying if he denied that he didn't either. Thankfully, Shadow didn't see half of what Rob did to him ... "I'd trust you with my life. You should know that by now." |

The first question was met with silence. It wasn't "wrong" so much as... Hm, what was the word for it, anyway? He waited for Sonic to finish, then said, "Good. That is sufficient." Whatever he was thinking of, that must have made his conclusion. Shadow closed his eyes, then, and breathed deeply one time. That was almost out of the way. Just one more thing to take care of in a moment. He obliged Sonic after taking his moment to himself, meeting Sonic's eyes as if the conversation never happened. He scooted up on the side of the bed, smirking lightly. "Do I have to spoon-feed you, blue hedgehog?" That's right. Let's talk about food again. |

Sonic wasn't distracted that easily. Especially at the awful subject matter he decided to bring up. In the end, Shadow just might have to do that. "No explanation?" Obviously he referring to that whole trust issue thing. He grinned wryly. "Feeling a little insecure, tough guy?" Sonic teased lightly, hoping he'd indulge him with a good reason for what just transpired. Perhaps a little motivation could help, but as Sonic attempted to shift and sit up more, he just barely managed to hide the faint grimace in doing so. His body had taken a lot this past week and now he was definitely feelin' it. |

Sonic would have no such luck, but he would at the least get a dry smile in return. "That is not the case," he assured the hedgehog, even if it was not the response he would have preferred. His expression turned into concern as he caught that flicker of discomfort on his partner's face, and he reacted quickly. Placing one hand below his spines and another on a gloved hand, he offered to help Sonic sit up if he desired, but there was very limited mobility with his leg bolted to the bed. "Careful," he warned. He didn't think he had to say anything, but it came naturally. |

Sonic smirked a little but was grateful for his assistance. "Since when aren't I careful?" Yeah, he didn't need to answer that. "Anyway, you're actin' awfully funny. If it's this whole situation, don't worry about it, alright? I'll be up on my feet again in no time." He reached a hand out for him, rubbing behind his ear and then adding on the pressure to pull him in close for a much needed kiss. He held on for as long as he could before he'd allow Shadow to breathe, letting his ear slip away from his grasp.

It was a bit of walk from the courtyard, but Sally had finally made it to the hospital wing. Along the way, she had questioned a few idle G.U.N. soldiers, inquiring about Sonic and his current condition. From what she had gathered, in short, he had been attacked by a deranged teal hedgehog, Rob O' the Hedge, which resulted the latter breaking his leg. Apparently, the incident had occurred in the headquarter's training room while the two were alone. That brief recollection alone was enough to stun the princess. What in the world would compel Rob to harm Sonic? And if Rob really is as unstable as the soldiers are depicting him to be, then why we did they even allow Sonic alone with him? What did he want with Sonic anyway? Her mind was spinning with numerous questions, the answers to most of them generally unknown. All frustrating nonetheless. She made note to have a few words with Commander Tower about the lack of information coming her way. It was completely unacceptable; she should've been notified about this as soon as possible! "Honestly..." she muttered as she walked further into the sector. Natural blue eyes scanned the relatively bland, neutral setting. She pursed her lips. "What a joyful setting," the chipmunk remarked wryly, idly glancing around. Hospitals were such dreary places. "Hmm. Dr. Quack is tending to Sonic." She continued to search for his room. Looking out for the old doctor, listening for the hedgehog's whining. No doubt he was complaining about something. "Anyway, you're actin' awfully funny. If it's this whole situation, don't worry about it, alright? I'll be up on my feet again in no time." Sally paused in her steps, smirking. "Found him." The princess began to quicken her pace a little, feelings of slight anxiety and reluctance slowly returning to her. Wondering curiously who he was talking to, pondering how she should greet him. Yeah, she was having a "Sally moment" by overanalyzing a simple situation. She couldn't help it. It was in her nature to do so. Finally, the auburn-haired female reached his room. Exhaling a quick sigh before peering through the threshold. This would be the first time the two really talked in how long...? Jeez, not even she knew. A lot longer than I would care to admit. She exhaled again. "Well, nothing's going to get done if I'm just standing here.. I better get moving." Her light blue boots clanked against the dense hospital floor as she entered the room, opening her mouth to greet the bedridden hedgehog. However, she found herself unable to speak as she gazed at the scene before her. Sally's eyes widened in pure confusion, her mouth hung slightly agape, but she managed to compose herself rather quickly. Although, she was beginning to feel very foolish. Perhaps, she shouldn't have barged in. They were obviously having a private moment. Well, she was here now. No use in turning back. She feigned a loud cough in order to grasp the hedgehogs' attention. "Excuse me?" Sal frowned sheepishly, leaning tensely against the door frame. This was certainly an awkward situation... |

The kiss broke just a little too late. Blue ears raised at the familiar sound of somebody's voice. Sonic let Shadow go, looking over at Sal like a deer caught in headlights. He quickly tried to cover the surprised expression with something a little more heartwarming. But his relationship with Shadow had never really been talked about amongst his friends or famil; and he wasn't even sure who knew about it. He imagined Shadow would feel the most awkward out of the situation and didn't seem at all surprised when the striped hedgehog suddenly excused himself from the room to wait until they have finished talking. Sonic sighed, ears lowering. Yes, this was definitely an awkward moment, but nothing he couldn't fix with his charm. "Hey, Sal." He brightened with a small smile, gesturing for her to come closer. He wouldn't focus on what she saw already. It's not like she hasn't rubbed his nose in her own relationships in the past anyway. Though there was always that strange tension between the two no matter who they were with. Sonic just guessed it was all part of her being his ex. "How's things? Hope you don't think I've just been layin' around on the job... Kind of the only thing I can do at the moment." There was a joking tone in his voice. Leave it to him to try to find light of such a serious situation. Edited by Sonic the Hedgehog, Mar 12 2010, 10:48 AM.

She wasn't quite sure what to make of what she just witnessed. Were Sonic and Shadow...? Sally was never one to pry in other's relationships, especially Sonic's, but this was... quite a shock. It wasn't that she was against those who chose to... go about that route, it's just that she didn't think Sonic rolled that way. Nor did she suspect that he had feelings for Shadow. But, she wouldn't question him about it. It wasn't her business to meddle in. He... could be with whoever he wanted to. "Hey, yourself," she responded, managing a small smile as she stepped closer to his bedside. If he wasn't going to talk about it, then she wouldn't either. No need to make an awkward moment even more uncomfortable. A more serious expression overtook her features. "I heard what happened." She glanced down his casted leg, wincing slightly. This was just ridiculous, all that's happened. "Well, bits and pieces anyway. Mind filling me in on the rest?" |

Sonic was more apt to talk to her about what happened than Amy, anyway. He didn't know how much the pink hedgehog was aware of Rob's stability at this point but he didn't want to be the one to break it all to her. Sally was different. He could share things with her no matter how dire the circumstances. Besides that, he always had a way of thinking positive about the situation, and that eventually, it was all going to get better. As to Rob's mental state, he couldn't be sure. "To be honest, I wasn't informed very well of the situation. All I knew was that Rob wanted to speak to me alone." For that, he sounded bitter. "If the Commander would have told me what he was capable of..." Then he wouldn't be like this. He would have been a lot more cautious. There was no doubt about it that the blue hedgehog wanted to give the Commander a piece of his mind. "For some reason, Rob went totally against me. He attacked me and I just..." He was a little embarrassed to say he couldn't fight him off. Even more so as to what Rob did to him aside from the obvious physical injuries. The blue hedgehog looked away, disturbed. "It didn't go down very well, we'll just put it at that." As if it wasn't obvious enough. He looked back at her, trying to appear pleasant despite the gruesome outcome. "Don't worry about me though, I'll recover." Edited by Sonic the Hedgehog, Mar 14 2010, 11:54 PM.

Listening to his explanation, Sally had taken a seat on a nearby stool near his bedside, resting her chin thoughtfully on a lazy fist. She was about to question why Rob wanted to speak to him alone, but his next comment had her furrowing her brow in contempt. "Yeah," the chipmunk growled, rolling her eyes. "The Commander has developed quite a knack for leaving out essential details." She pressed an agitated hand to her temple. "This is getting ridiculous! How could he not relay that information to you? You would've been more prepared and this all could've been prevented!" Frowning worriedly when Sonic vaguely described Rob's assault upon him. The princess could tell that he was a tad embarrassed about the whole ordeal, and so she wouldn't press him for more details regarding that. His broken leg was evidence enough. Shaking her slowly, her concerned blue gaze glanced over the hedgehog's injured limb. "It doesn't make sense. Why would he attack you? What anger does he harbor against you that would drive him to do that?" The tomboy was mainly speaking to herself at this point; she knew that Sonic was just as clueless as she was. Which was a problem. Tower and G.U.N. knew more about this predicament than both of them, and that did not sit right with her. Her thoughts diverted back to her previous conversation with Geoffrey regarding the Overlander's treatment of Mobians. Sal really didn't want to look upon them with abhorrence, as they were allowing her and her Kingdom to reside in their HQ while they attempted to get back on their feet. However, not even the astute princess could deny the tension developing in their temporary alliance. Our welcome here may be running out soon... Sally cast him small grin, raising her brow at his expected response. "How can I not worry about you? You're always getting into trouble someway or another." She chuckled. "I'll know you'll recover, Sonic. It's just a matter of whether you'll give yourself enough time to recover." Her eyes narrowed, purposefully stressing the word, 'time'. "I'm being serious here. We need you back on your A-game as soon as possible." |

He should have known they would get caught at some point. He never really intended to kiss Sonic.. not now. Between his own plans and the Commander's orders, it certainly complicated things and tore mercilessly at his insides like some kind of emotional hurricane that Shadow did not enjoy. That wasn't to say he disliked kissing his partner. However, it made judgement cloudy, and increased his hesitance. He had a mission, though, that he could not give up on so easily, even if he did wish to do so. When he left the room, he folded his hands, staring out a window. Outside seemed so foreign all of a sudden. What lay beyond his creature comforts had been gradually slipping into the past, but it could only be temporary at best. He knew that to begin with, but he hoped it wouldn't be so soon. Still, there were steps to take to make sure that those comforts would be there, waiting for him, when he needed them most. He gave the two familiars a moment to chat, then knocked on the door lightly, nerves calmed from their bust, but not from his future set of action. "May I come back in a moment?" |

Sonic looked away from her, waving a hand dismissively. "Don't sweat it, Sal. I'll be on my feet in no time, saving your butts like always." He made it sound like a chore but the grin sneaking up on his lips hinted that he was just teasing again. An ear swiveled at the slight knock coming from the door. He looked over as Shadow peeked in, brightening a little, but immediately reminded of that earlier awkwardness. He could outweigh that with his amusement that the other seemed more embarrassed to have left the room in such a hurry. "Of course." He waved him in. |

Sal could only roll her eyes at his response, rivaling his teasing grin with a small one of her own. Typical. "I figured you'd say that. Just be sure that you do." Upon hearing a faint knock at the door, she turned, looking at Shadow peek his head through the doorway. That uneasy feeling began to bubble in her chest again at his reappearance. Well, it never went away, she just to ignore momentarily. Simply dismissing the sentiment would be much harder with both of them in the room. The princess looked back Sonic, noticing a certain brightness in his face. She made sure not show her surprise, rather "slight" hurt (as she liked to put it), and maintain her neutral look. How long after we... did they...? No. She couldn't dwell on that question. Not when there were more... pressing issues to focus on. Sitting upright on her stool, casting him an amiable smile. Sally had never interfered, really, in any of his relationships before. So, she she certainly wasn't going to start now. Even with that "slight" hurt piercing her heart. "Sure. Come on in." |
