Silver: This had to have been a record or something. Sonic’s back was practically covered in gashes and welts. There was barely any blue fur left to see without it being marred terribly. How did he stand it? How could he keep going the way he was? Any more abuse to his back and it would never heal. But Silver was happy to at least clean and bandage. Still...this would take a while a heal. It was hard enough trying to help. Just a slight touch would have the blue hedgehog whimpering in pain. He felt so guilty for it but it had to be done. "Alright...that should be okay for now...I’ll probably have to change your bandages again in a few hours or so." Silver peered around Sonic’s side to look him in the eyes. "You doing okay?" Sonic: Scars were definitely a possibility, if several hadn't already tried to form. It was hard to tell when his back was always blistering or swollen from acting out or doing something wrong. Some days were worse than others. Considering his first day started him out with over fifty lashes, it was hard for the marred skin to heal even when future punishments only required him to have ten (not to forget that one extra). What Silver might notice whenever he cared for the blue hedgehog was how fast his recovery rate was. Also considering those hardened quills that protected him from some of the pressure of that frightening bull whip, Sonic was able to take more than an average mobian could. Even so, his pain tolerance seemed to be incredibly high. That really wasn't the case. It was that stubborn will, that spirit that was just being chiseled away. And all for what? Just to blend in with the crowd, to be another slave for the selfish green hedgehog who's interest seemed all too real in Silver. What point did he serve? Sonic was feeling particularly bad today. While he never actually seemed happy on any given day (aside from the rare chances he was allowed to go to the grotto to run), depression was really starting to seep in, and his body and mind was getting awfully tired. Sitting on his knees, slumped, he struggled to get through the usual routine. Even after his beatings, the torture wasn't at all over. Simply cleaning and bandaging the wounds was a painstaking manner in its self. Hitched breaths and agonizing whimpers played all too often throughout the procedure. Sonic remained quiet after, eyes at the floor as his fingers gripped at the top of his thighs, holding tight and accidentally breaking skin. Even after the bandaging, Sonic's back ached around those spines, quills of which had flattened once he was done. They only seemed to rise in Scourge's presence in an effort to show off, to flaunt the fact that he was still a free thinker, and that he wasn't just another nobody he could abuse and degrade. Or rather he could, but it didn't bother him. However... in the confinement of near solitude, out of his sight, they stayed down, and his ears didn't look too lively today either. Sonic had a lot on his mind. The question Silver asked seemed a little silly but he wouldn't poke fun. He was anything but okay; and when the other tried to look at him, he looked away, shutting his eyes. He wouldn't even look himself in a mirror, afraid of what his eyes might reveal these days. Today, Silver would know just how much progress Scourge was making. Silver: When he received no answer, Silver rose a brow. That was odd. Usually Sonic would answer him. But that look in his eyes...ah, depression. He was well acquainted with the feeling. Sonic was getting to the stage where he would begrudgingly have to accept his fate. It started with the feelings of helplessness, depression, worthlessness. Every slave went through it. While it was easier for Silver to accept since he had been born into this, for Sonic...a free spirit...it must have been torture. In all seventeen years of being a slave, Silver knew that the psychological torture was worse than the physical torture. Being told you were nothing every day of your life took some toles. The white hedgehog wasn’t sure if it was a good or bad thing that he had grown used to it by now. Sonic had only been doing this for a few weeks. It would take at years before he got the hang of at least the basics. Giving a sigh, the Head Slave stood up, holding out his arm to Sonic to help him do the same. He’d need the help to get over to his so-called "bed." The day was over with, but they had to wake up early. No different than any other day. "You should probably get some rest..." Again, no answer. Now he was starting to worry. What could he say to someone like this? Sonic: What might have set him apart from every other slave was Sonic's sheer determination to not give in. It would take even longer than it would a normal slave to get the basics and hang of things since Sonic resisted for so long. It seemed even the toughest individual could be worn down eventually, however. Sonic opened his eyes with a frown, glancing awkwardly over at the other white hedgehog. While he pitied him for having been born in this life, he couldn't help but think he had it so much easier. In a way, it was better for those who have been born into this. At least then they wouldn't know the life that Sonic had grown so fond of and attached to. To have to give that up and live in a cage was probably more painful than having something better to compare it too. Silver wouldn't know what he was missing out on and that was probably for the best. Sonic did answer him this time. But he didn't take his offer to try to stand. He continued to sit there, and it wasn't until a long pause, that may have made him think he wouldn't answer at all, that Sonic shook his head and finally spoke up. "I'm not tired." A lie but he couldn't find it in him to lay down and just go to sleep, knowing that he'd have the same thing to look forward to the very next morning. Silver: Maybe it was for the best. Silver made the perfect slave. Having known nothing else besides being a slave, everything just came naturally. There was no doubt that if he had grown up like Sonic had, he’d be acting the same way. Albeit less stubborn. Seeing Sonic down like this made him start to feel guilty. That spark he had seen in Sonic’s eyes when he first captured him all those weeks ago was no longer there. Somehow, he missed it. It was inspiring to watch. Now...those emeralds had dulled. Just looking at them made him depressed. "You have dark circles under your eyes," he retorted matter-of-factly. It would be no surprise if Sonic had barely gotten any sleep since coming into this life. Going from a bed to something that vaguely resembled a cot was a huge change. "Not to mention your body needs the rest. Please? You’ll be kicking yourself when morning comes if you don’t..." Sonic: He knew his time was running out. With every day that passed he felt more and more worn down. It didn't help that he wasn't getting adequate sleep or a very good diet. Though the small canned meals he was provided three times a day gave him his vitamins, Sonic barely ate enough to survive. It wasn't unheard of for the blue hedgehog to refuse dinner, breakfast or both. He had yet to acquire a taste for the wretched meal. He had lost a substantial amount of weight already, much more noticeable since his fur wasn't as thick as Silver's. The white hedgehog wouldn't have anything to hide these days, however. Considering what he got to eat. Sonic's peach and blue coat was thin but soft like velvet. Or used to be. Now it felt dry and neglected since he didn't get much water to bathe with either, let alone any good shampoo or conditioner. Bones were easily visible from what used to be such a strong, and fine physique. Sonic ignored these details and was coming across the idea of not caring by the end of it. Maybe he'd starve to death but at least it'd be better than becoming a mindless server and living in fear. One of the things he's been dwelling on a while though was the fact that no one around seemed to know his name, or wanted to know it. One might think Scourge would be interested in knowing the hedgehog's name that's given him such a fight after all these weeks. It's been so long since he's heard it, it worried him. With a name he still had his identity and he didn't want to ever forget the spirited blue hedgehog he once was. No matter what he'd end up becoming in the end. "Call me Sonic." A name wasn't important to most, just something to give their Masters a way of calling them easier. Sonic didn't mind so much that Scourge never used it, but he'd like it if Silver did more. Looking at the white hedgehog, who was the only one he got along with in the house (since all the other slaves didn't seem to care to interact with him, resented him for his disobedience, or were too afraid to do anything but work). If it wasn't for Scourge always taking him up as company, Sonic might not have felt so alone. Unrelenting, Sonic seemed to completely overlook or ignore Silver's advice. Silver: "Sonic..." Silver felt his lips twitch into the tiniest of smiles. Something nobody had seen, not even Scourge, or even Finitevus, on the hedgehog’s face. Why did he smile? The name was so perfect. The first time hearing Sonic’s actual name, he couldn’t help but crack a smile. "It...suits you..." And yet as soon as it appeared, the smile vanished. Silver sat on his cot, facing the blue hedgehog but not daring to move any closer. While Sonic may not have hated him, the white hedgehog could tell there was some resentment. The last thing he wanted was to start a brawl. Even if Sonic had the cuffs on, Silver knew he’d get pummeled. And risk getting them both into trouble. Why did he care so much? Sonic was unlike anyone he’d ever met. There was just something about the blue hedgehog that kept Silver’s interest and the reason he kept helping him out. Even if Sonic didn’t want it, he’d still help. Chalk it up to being Head Slave, sure, but he knew there was more to it than that, despite what Sonic may think. He would have liked to spend more time with Sonic, but Scourge’s constant "alone times" kept tearing him away (and Silver did not want to talk about what happened during those times. If he wasn’t mellow before, then he certainly was now). Sonic: Sonic was a little surprised. His ears finally started moving and rose up a little when he realized Silver seemed happy about something. Being in such a tense air all the time where everyone else knew only fear, even smiles on others were rare, but he couldn't help but feel everyone was happier than himself. Silver should be, or at the very least content. He seemed to have it better than anyone here. But he wasn't sure if he ever saw something so genuine on his face before. Something that was really -him- and not this dependent, shy facade he showed the world. For a second, he seemed utterly and completely at ease. It lifted Sonic's spirits, if just a tad. "Thank you... for being nice to me. Even if you have to be." It troubled him slightly to think that it too was mostly an act. Even the slightest negative thoughts towards him or the other slaves got Silver in trouble, and he was such a pushover, he imagined he'd never express his true feelings in the situation. But even so, he did appreciate it. It made things if just an ounce more bearable. Silver: Even if it was part of his job description to be nice to other slaves, it was also his duty to be strict and make sure they knew everything they needed to. Of course, he got more annoyed than strict, and not just at Sonic. But it was that thing about the blue hedgehog that was hard to ignore. After all, he didn’t have to offer to take his punishment for him or have to add his own water rights to Sonic’s and leave himself with no water for a day. Or even bandage up his wounds like this. He could have asked any other slave but Silver chose to do it himself. And he had absolutely no idea why. "It’s...nothing. I...enjoy your company, so..." He looked down, cheeks tinted pink. A position he found himself in a lot these days, mostly around Scourge. Now would be a good time to stop talking or he’d just embarrass himself even more. Sonic: True, Silver did put himself out there way more than necessary. He wasn't exactly sure why either, but he was grateful. It was just then he realized he didn't show it nearly enough. He felt kind of bad about that, and wished he could have showed the guy a lot better side of himself. He was always too busy being upset, defiant, or something or another at Scourge. "You enjoy my company?" Sonic looked pleasantly surprised. "You're different." He smiled, a glimmer of that natural confidence gleaming through. "Can't say your Master likes it much." His tone was obviously mocking and playful. He still found it difficult to call him Master himself and rarely did. Only when he absolutely had to. Silver: He nodded, though Silver’s ears went down at that next statement. Talking in a quiet voice. "I’m not different. I’m just a slave. Nothing more..." But everything less. He barely had the rights to his own body anymore. Shivering, curling his arms around himself. Scourge hadn’t done anything drastic yet but...the things that had happened left permanent scars. If Sonic ever was broken and took his place as the Master’s pleasure slave...well, a part of him hoped that wouldn’t happen. "The Master is...hard to please. But I’m sure you already knew that." It felt wrong, talking about their master in such a way. Sonic: The blue hedgehog let out a heavy sigh, exaggerating in every way possible. It was just that first comment he made that drove him nuts. It was that thought that hurt him the most when looking at anyone like this. The fact that everyone thought of themselves as... nothing... it just was heartbreaking. Even he couldn't deny the fact that he disliked himself more than he ever thought possible while in Scourge's care. Not necessarily because he too believed he was a nobody, but for ever giving in, and accepting the shame and humility he faced on a daily basis. He thought that he should be stronger, if not for himself, for these people that were too weak to take up for themselves. It was just that mindset that would inevitably get him killed one day. "He's a bully and that's it. What truly makes a person is their integrity and their heart. He uses others and takes the easy, nasty way out to get quick rewards, big whoop." Even in this stage of depression, Sonic had no problem speaking out and laying down the truth. "I'd rather do things the right way, to help others, and to make something bigger, and better than just mean. I... I used to want to believe that the good guys always win in the long run. I know now that isn't always the case. But for you, for anyone else that couldn't keep up, however... I will keep going. After all, there isn't anybody who can run longer or better than I can." He smiled reassuringly at Silver, even though his own fate wasn't exactly certain yet. There was definitely something to the blue hedgehog that was unique. "I will never give up." (OOC: Yes, that's supposed to sound familiar >3) Silver: It was that unique personality that drew Silver to Sonic in the first place. That was...wow. In awe one moment, the next he cracked his second smile. While he was certain talking about the master like that would get Sonic killed, he was glad nobody but himself had heard it. He didn’t approve but agreed with some parts. "That was inspiring...You’re pretty amazing, Sonic." Silver noticed his cheeks getting a little bit warmer after that statement. Now his ears were starting to feel a little warm too. Was it a fever? No, he felt perfectly normal health wise. "Just...you have to be careful when saying those kinds of things. I’m glad nobody else was around to hear that." Having to rely on someone, let alone Silver, was something Sonic still wasn’t used to. He...wanted to protect the blue hedgehog. Sonic: It was just too bad Scourge couldn't appreciate the same light that Silver seemed to enjoy so much. Instead, if at all means possible, he sought to extinguish what little amount he had left. And yet, even that flicker was enough to give Silver inspiration. For that, Sonic was thankful. Even if he couldn't reach out to any of the other slaves, it seemed he found a friend in the white hedgehog. Finally moving, he crawled over to sit next to the other hedgehog, looking him over and reaching out to toy with him. Not much, seeing as how Scourge must do it plenty. But he couldn't help but brush his fingers against one of his cheeks. "You really are soft..." Hearing Scourge say it did tempt some curiosity. What really drew him in was all that blushing, however. "You worry too much." It was kind of cute but not something Sonic wanted to see him do. "Relax? Whatever happens, happens." Silver: Oh that’s right. Sonic lost his gloves a while back. Probably the reason why he hand touching his cheek was incredibly soft as well. As Silver tried to voice that, his voice suddenly decided to leave him. The only sound that came out was a choked cry of surprise. He could feel those fingers raking through his fur, the touches so gentle. Out of instinct, he quickly backed up from those gentle touches. "Y-yes well...you never seem to worry...So someone has to do it for you..." Not that Sonic never worrying was a bad thing. It was another admirable trait to the blue hedgehog. "I-it’s a little hard to...relax..." Sonic: Sonic frowned, unsure if he should look apologetic or not. He couldn't have been anymore gentle, but he supposed contact in general still wasn't something he's adjusted to. That, or Scourge has only traumatized him further with the concept. He wouldn't persist unlike another green hedgehog. He gave him his space and offered a disarming smile. Probably the most he's gave out since he's been here. "Don't let me burden you. I wasn't meant to live forever." And one day he would die. It was no manner of if, but when. It may come sooner than later given his conduct but he'd have it no other way. Silver: "Maybe not, but you should live as long as possible." Rubbing his cheek where Sonic’s hand had been seconds before. It hadn’t felt bad, per se, it just startled him. He sighed. He’d been thinking about this for a while. It was clear Sonic didn’t belong in this world, that staying here would cause him to do some terrible things. Either to other people...or to himself if he would go by that last statement. "You know, I...I’m kind of the reason you’re in this situation. If I hadn’t caught you, you’d probably be free right now." He looked at Sonic, eyes sad and confused. "Why don’t you hate me? I understand completely if you do but you just don’t show it. How come you haven’t...I don’t know...broken my legs or something?" Sonic: Sonic blinked, startled by his inquiry. "Break your legs?" He wouldn't wish that on his worst enemies! "Dude, there's no way I have a chance against those spooky powers." He smirked, obviously teasing. "Besides, I... don't really blame you. I mean, it's how you were raised. You had no choice." While he may not have done the same thing himself, everyone was different. And he could tell, despite the demands he had to follow, Silver had a good heart. Silver: "I can’t even use my powers now." He gestured to his cuffs. "But my point is...if you trust me enough, I’ll try to help you out of here." His look turned serious. "Looking at you now and when I first met you, I’ve realized something. I shouldn’t have done what I did, drag you back here. You don’t belong here and you never will. I-I want to redeem myself to you...give you help that’s actually worth something. In other words...help you get free. "You’re a good person, Sonic. You don’t deserve to be here, to live this life. You deserve so much better. I’ve seen you try to defend others here, even if it means getting punishment yourself. I just...I want to help." Why was he trembling? He was scared of what Sonic would say, would do. Even more so what Scourge would do if he ever found out he spoke of such things. What was wrong with him? Silver had never talked like this before. Sonic seemed to have brought out something new in him. Sonic: Whoa... hold on a second here! Where did that come from? Sonic was stunned. This shy slave, that jumped at even the slightest touch, was willing to make a deal like that? The blue hedgehog couldn't believe it. For someone that had been born and raised in slavery... it didn't make sense. Helping him out as he had been alone was more than he thought he could ask for. Sonic wasn't sure what to say. He thought he'd be happy at the idea but... "Silver..." The white hedgehog was strong. Stronger than him. "I... can't ask you to do that." And it was an obvious strain to get those words out. But why? It looked like it was the break he had been waiting for. But there was some truth in what Scourge was trying to beat into him. Outside these walls, he'd have no place to go, and could end up in worse hands than the green hedgehog. The mark that scarred his skin would never allow him to be an equal. That of course went for Silver as well. While he was willing to put his life on the line to find a way around this, he was afraid of bringing the white hedgehog with him, or leaving him behind if he were to help him. For Silver, he had such a good thing going for him, Sonic couldn't ruin his life just to save his own. "That... means a lot, it really does. But if I'm going to make it out of here, I'm not going to risk your life to do it." Silver: Now it was Silver’s turn to look confused. "But...but...I thought you..." Didn’t Sonic want to be free? Was it because the blue hedgehog didn’t trust him enough? The markings were easy enough to hide. So why...? Risk his life? Was he really that concerned? "You shouldn’t waste your time worrying about me. I don’t care what happens to me." There was no doubt that Silver would either be killed or crippled for life if he were to be found out. He honestly didn’t care. "I have nothing ahead of me except for this. This isn’t even life to people like you. Please...I want to help, please let me help." Sonic: Sonic smiled. Well, he was determined now, wasn't he? Didn't think he'd have the nerve to insist something that was pretty daring to begin with. "Alright, alright... We'll see." By that he meant they couldn't go rushing into it either way. "Can't do anything with these inhibitors..." Sonic couldn't promise he'd be able to get his off given Scourge's attitude towards him. Silver, on the other hand, would probably have more luck in that field despite how much more dangerous his power was. "We'll talk about it some other time. Until then, I think I'll get some rest now." He talked him into it. Well, sort of. |
