Basic Summary: Alternate universe concerning how Rob O and Silver meet and how their feelings for each other come to light. But of course, perfection can never last forever, as foretold...

Silver stared at the huge building in front of him. He’d never seen any place to big before! Where ever he was transported, the people certainly had large buildings. It looked incredibly rich. They must have a lot of food there, right? They wouldn’t miss a few meals...he hoped.
There were lots of people guarding the castle though. Silver was never good at stealth, especially since his fur gave him away most of the time, but he snuck past the guards as best as he could. Unfortunately, just as soon as he was about to make it into the castle, a guard spotted him. “Hey, you!” And was promptly captured.
That could have gone better. He would have used his powers, but the fatigue and hunger was ailing him too much. He didn’t have the strength.
Rob O, the appointed king of Mercia, was up as usual, making his own rounds of the castle. Too used to being on the prowl, leader of the Freedom Fighters of Deerwood often did keep him up late hour patrolling the boarders and lake front. Even with peace he didn't light up in his vigilance. When news of a captured 'spy' reached the teal one's ears he was down to the dungeon to see this intruder himself.
It was quite a pitiful state he found himself in, and so early as well. This certainly wasn’t turning out to be his day. All he had wanted was some food, was that a crime? ...Apparently it was. He had heard the guards talking about their king coming down here. Certainly sounded important. The door suddenly opened and another hedgehog walked in. If this was the “king”, he definitely looked important as well. Silver stayed silent, eyeing the teal hedgehog with a raised brow.
Of course the 'king' never wore anything to show his status, always choosing to wear his usual attire that consisted of just his hood, gloves and boots. But his sheer presence was looming enough to show his importance. There was an air about him that seemed to demand respect. But there was a hollow emptiness in his eyes that sudden gleamed at the vintage of their 'guest'. It was certainly no one he had met, nor did he look like the common, well, commoner. Unarmed, this time around, he stepped around the youth who was strapped down to a chair in metal shackles. Those quills were so...odd! And being one to catch the smallest detail he saw the youth was underweight, looking starved and tired. He had to take some pity on the kid. "What is thy name?"
Silver was caught off guard by the kindness in his tone, and also by the way he spoke. ‘Thy’ instead of ‘your’? Interesting vocabulary. But then, who was he to judge. He took notice of how Rob O stared at his quills. They weren’t that weird! Blushing slightly of embarrassment, he looked down, avoiding any eye contact. Great first impression. Or second, whichever he considered it. “Silver...” the timid hedgehog muttered, voice barely registering.
He scowled, shaking his head and just chuckled. It was rather endearing how the hedgehog was so timid and shy. Motioning for the guards to release the chains. "Silver? Ah, tis a suiting name, me thinks." He lifted his brow, waiting to see if Silver would look up at him. "What brings ye to my humble home?" Too trusting perhaps, but the teal hedge was always tender hearted. He couldn't stand by and watch the young hedge starve any longer. "But perhaps ye would care for a bite first? Tis late but I am sure ye wouldst enjoy something."
That had gotten him to look up, blinking in confusion. “Oh, uh...” He was grateful then his shackles had been taken off, rubbing his sore wrists. Unfortunately, his stomach chose that moment to growl loudly, protesting its lack of nourishment. It was true, he literally hadn’t eaten in days. The blush on his face increasing, Silver looked back down again. “That...would be nice, yes...” Trying not to sound too eager but failing. Great, so he’d already made a fool of himself. What else could go wrong today?
He ordered for one of the guards to gather some leftovers from the kitchen. It would take a solid twenty minutes before they would returned with a tray full of goodies. Silence filled the air within that time. Though Rob O continued to eye the male curiously. Cooked meats, breads, soup and glass of water were served warm on a platter of polished silver and gold. Any other drink would need to be requested. Fizzy drinks and the such were unheard of around here. Taking the tray from the mangy mutt of a prison guard he laid the platter out on the table set in front of Silver. But he kept his presence close, pushing the silverware away from the youth's reach. "Now, before thy first bite, tell me why ye art here?"
Silver looked anywhere but the food. It was so tempting to forget about the silverware and just eat without it. But he kept his manners. Most of this stuff on the tray he’d never even seen before. It all looked delicious though. The questions certainly made him feel awkward though. “Well I...um...” Silver sighed. Better to tell the truth then be caught in a lie from the guards. “I...needed some food and this place looked so rich, so I thought if I took something, nobody would notice one or two things gone...I-I wasn’t going to take much, I swear!” Be that as it may, Silver was sure he was still going to be kicked out. Here it comes...
There was another long moment of silence, keeping his unwavering lime green eyes on the youth. His expression seemed dark for a moment, but quickly turned into a light and cheerful laughter. Pushing the tray slowly toward Silver within reach. "My name is Rob O the hedge. I am king of this castle..." He sighed heavily for a moment, that thought always weighted so much on his shoulders. "And I care for my people, all people. If one is in need, then I will ne'er turn them away. I doth not take kindly to thieves, but I shalt let this incident pass. Now eat."
Silver gave a small smile, silently thanking the hedgehog king before digging in. It didn’t take long for most of the food to be completely gone. The white hedgehog sighed as he finished, not even scraps were left. He’d had his fill. “Thank you very much. I...really appreciate it.” He was surprised that Rob O had even let him stay after what he said. Nobody was that kind where he was from. All were looking out for their own lives, they didn’t have time to be concerned with other people besides their families. “I don’t know how I’ll ever be able to repay you...”
He lifted his hand, shaking his head. "I have more then enough. Tis ne'er an honorable action to turn away one in need such as thy self. Please, if ye need to stay there is more then enough room for another soul here in Mercia." Picking up the mess, sending the tray away with a guard. "But seeing as ye art under my roof, by courtesy I must allow ye to rest within the walls of my home." He motioned for Silver to follow, exiting the room quickly to give the youth little time to argue or the such. It was always within the hedgehog's personality to extend his kindness where ever he saw it fit, and now it seemed the youth needed rest and some tlc. Plus there were a few more questions he had in mind that he wished to have the hedge answer him.
“Mercia...so that’s where I am...” He pondered this before Rob’s request, or rather, command, registered in his head. “Oh, but, uh-!” He was gone already? “W-wait!” Silver chased after the hedgehog king, coming next to him and trying to match his long strides. “Are you sure? I mean, you’ve already done more than enough for me and I don’t want to bother you anymore.” Silver hated being a burden on people. He’d already been one enough in his timeline, and being one here wasn’t a part of the plan! ...Whatever plan that was. He still was unsure on how he’d gotten here in the first place.
Rob O slowed his steps, wanting to let the white hedgehog keep an easier pace. Looking over at Silver with a wide and pleasing smile. Something about the youth just brought a sense of calm to his heart. Reaching out to pat him tenderly, as though he were a long known friend. "Enough, one normally thanks their host and ne'er turn away good tidings." He lead them down the hall, torches lit there way. Passive several rooms and walking up a few stairs to lead up to the higher levels. Taking him to the guest quarters. Again silence would follow.
“B-but...” Silver stopped in his tracks as he watched Rob O walk on without him, ears drooping. A sigh. He hadn’t meant to come off as rude. “I’m sorry...thank you.” He was grateful that he at least had a place to stay for the night. Getting his bearings, Silver ran to catch up with him again, now observing the scenery. How nice. He was surprised that a place this huge could be kept so clean. The room he was brought to was even better. There was a bed, a desk, the natural things a person would find in a guest room. It was plain, but charming. More than what Silver needed. “I don’t know what to say.”
"A simple thanks is fine. That and word ye would not steal anymore. Incase ye hath any problems I will have a guard posted outside thy door." More of a precaution then not trusting the youth. Rob o was a wise and often on mark judge of character and he knew he could trust the male. Motioning for Silver to enter and make himself at home. "Sleep well." He turned to leave, not about to mention he planned on asking more questions in the morning. He himself didn't plan to sleep, finding the nights rather bothersome. It was weary sharing a bed with someone he just didn't think he knew anymore.
Being labeled as a thief was beginning to annoy him. It was his own fault though. “Ahaha...I won’t. Promise.” Silver could guess that the guard was there because Rob O didn’t trust him. He didn’t know the teal hedgehog well enough to know the real reason. Watching him leave, Silver noticed the solemn look on Rob’s face before he left. What was that all about? Maybe he could ask him later. Sitting on the bed, Silver couldn’t help but smile. “This is probably the nicest bed I’ve ever slept on.” His gloves and shoes were quickly removed and he slumped into bed, falling asleep almost instantly.

Rob O, as been usual for the past several weeks, slept in another empty guest room. There would be an odd feeling in the air as breakfast was busily being made. The teal king was out and about greeting the people as he would normally do every morning. Trailing behind him was his wife. A dashing and fair red echidna. Both work masks of cheer and joy, and within the females arms their supposed 'son'. After a good hour of that they would return to enjoy a big meal. Per usual Rob O was uncomfortable. He had only regained his throne little over a year ago. This treatment had him flustered and anxious most of the time. When all goodies were finally cooked Silver would be brought his meal by one of the feline servants. No one was allowed to disturb the king and queen during meal times, and Silver was no exception.
A knock at the door awoke Silver from his slumber, sitting up and tiredly rubbing his eyes. “Yes...?” The servant opened the door and dropped off the food, politely leaving soon afterwards. Silver eyed the food, still barely recognizing any of it. Daylight shone in through the windows and he slowly slipped out of bed, going over to the food and beginning to eat. He wondered where Rob O...err, the king was. It probably wasn’t polite to address him by name. Silver had read in a book somewhere that royals were usually referred to as ‘Your Majesty.’ Odd, but that was probably what he should call the teal hedgehog. Whenever he decided to talk to him. Silver went over to the window. What an amazing view! He opened the windows and sat of the sill, admiring the surroundings. Mercia was a very beautiful place, he decided.
Rob O and his 'queen' lead themselves back to the castle to enjoy the usual fried eggs, toast and cooked meats. Though the two sat together, their son tended to by the nurse maid across the extra long table. Even separated by one foot between the two it seemed like they were miles apart. Eating in utter silence Rob o did his best to place him mind elsewhere. Remembering the young hedgehog they caught last night, there were still questions to be asked. And really he needed a reason to distance himself again this morning. Excusing himself, giving his wife a half hearted kiss, he returned to the guest section of the castle, knocking on Silver's door. "Art ye awake?"
Ears twitching, Silver looked back at the door. Coming back into the room and sitting down on the bed before answering. “Yes, I’m awake.” He called back, then deciding he should probably clean up the food mess. With a sigh, he got back up and went over to the table, gathering everything together before Rob O opened the door.
The teal king opened the door, stepping inside slowly, lightly. His thick boots didn't even make a sound as he shuffled inside. One could tell he was a master of sneaking about. Leaving the door wide open behind him. He didn't even look at Silver as he headed to the same window the youth had been staring out of previously. "Tis a grand and beholding site, nay?" Admiring the view, distant, his back to the youth. He wished things were simpler, like once had been. Once more snapping back to reality, looking over his shoulder to address Silver. "Sleep well?"
“It’s a very beautiful kingdom...” What he wouldn’t give to live in a place like this. He watched Rob O observe outside. How graceful the teal king seemed. Silver almost wished he could be like that. “Oh yes...yes I slept very well, thank you. Best sleep I’ve had in years.” Silver caught himself babbling and shook his head, getting himself out of it. “And...thank you for the breakfast.” He wasn’t even expecting it when it came. More surprises.
"Ye art a guest! What king, what Mobian would I be to deny ye what every creature needs? Food and warmth." He made a motion with his hands to stop any other thank yous or what not. He wished more people understood that these manners should go without saying, and he expected no kind words, just the continuation of kind deeds. "I..." He paused, looking back toward the horizon, staring out the window a few moments longer. "Would ye care for a personal tour?" Turning to Silver, motioning to the small kingdom below.
Silver’s ears went down, feeling incredibly awkward. In all honesty, he wasn’t used to being treated like this. All this kindness and safety was so foreign to him, since he was always used to living in fear. “I suppose it wouldn’t hurt...” A tour of this beautiful kingdom did sound nice. And even if he had said no, if he knew the hedgehog king enough, Rob O would not take no for an answer anyway. He might as well make the most of it if it was being offered.
Rob O grinned wide, walking up to Silver and patting him on the shoulder. "Ah, now that is the spirit! Would ye care to wash up before then? There is a bath down the hall to the right." He motioned to the door, giving Silver a friendly wink as he began to leave the room. "I will be waiting for ye at the castle gates. I am sure ye know where that is?" On that note he excused him politely and head down the hall to gather a few things before he would have to meet the hedgehog.
“I’m so confused...” But he did need a bath. Heading Rob’s advice, Silver picked up his shoes and gloves and walked down to the bathroom. There were towels already waiting for him there. Setting his clothes down, Silver filled up the bath and slipped in, giving off a relaxing sigh. This was wonderful. He could get used to this... “No, get a grip on yourself, Silver. You couldn’t possibly stay here.” Mumbling to himself was a bad habit of his, one he’d tried to get rid of but it always seemed to come back, so he gave up trying.
Once his soaking was finished, Silver assumed he could use one of the towels and promptly did, taking a little more time than he would have liked to get himself completely dry. Now that that was finished, Silver put back on his gloves and boots and quickly headed out to the gates, hoping that he hadn’t made Rob O wait too long.
Rob O would be conversing with the same guard that had captured Silver the night before. The large feline gave a few short nods, grinning and seeming to be rather amused by whatever they were talking about. Adjusting his gloves Rob O looked rather sheepish for a moment, shaking his head and pointing something out before he actually noticed Silver coming. Dismissing the sleek grey and black captain, welcoming Silver with a cheery smile and small wave. "Aye, for a moment I believe ye hath fallen in!" He chuckled, straightening himself up. Looking the male over and nodding approvingly. "Ready?"
As he was walking up, Silver recognized the guard that Rob O was talking to. He stopped in his tracks. What were the talking about, he wondered. The guard captain looked rather amused. Talking about throwing him back in the dungeon? Maybe not, since as soon as he was noticed by the both of them, the guard was excused. Silver sighed and continued up to the gates, ignoring Rob’s teasing. He really wasn’t in the mood. “Yes...”
The teal's grin slowly faded into a typical smile. Whatever other comment he had he kept to himself. Falling silent he turned and began to lead the male down to the small town. It was a simple living. No extensive technology, if any. There were still bakers, black smiths, cobblers. He would come to a stop occasionally, being greeted or greeting a friend or two. Around them nature was still apart of their everyday living. Wildlife walking in and out of sight. Not speaking to Silver till he spoke first.
A number of times Silver had stopped to stare at everything around him. There was so much to see. Everything was so beautiful. It was all new to him. “Wow...” He was mostly speechless. Every time he’d fall behind, Silver quickly ran to catch up. “This is amazing. I’ve never seen any place like this before.” It all seemed perfect to the white hedgehog. Luscious green everywhere, something he hadn’t seen in a long time. “Do you run this whole kingdom?”
Rob O took his time in responding to Silver's questions. Feeling a little sore from earlier. But it would eventually pass, the peaceful tranquility of his small kingdom always helped clear his mind. And seeing the smiling faces of his subjects always brought cheer to his heart. "T'was not always like this. There was a time where there was chaos and ruin. I picked up the pieces, and did what I could to bring these people together." He stopped, pressing his hand against the bark of a tree, smiling sadly. "I hath tried so hard to keep it like this, but it becomes quite taxing at times."
“You seem like a great leader. It looks perfect to me.” Silver smiled, the first time he had since coming into this predicament. “The people here adore you. I don’t blame them. For something that was in chaos, as you put it, there doesn’t seem to be any of it now.” Silver could understand that things might not work out the way its planned, but Rob O had actually been successful, unlike him. “Besides, you’ve got plenty of people to help you out, right?”
Rob O lowered his head for a moment, a look of complete sorrow on his face. A look Silver was able to avoid seeing. Straightening himself up, ears still pulling back. He offered the male a soft smile. "Aye...but I could always use more." Making a small, hidden hint in his comment. Once more on the move, winding through the town, the building began to thin out as the forest began to grow thicker and more lush. They were nearing the edge of town and heading right into Deerwood Forrest. A lightly used trail made out beneath their feet. Rob O was falling silent once more.
Silver watched him go, confused by his words. “Huh...?” Trailing slightly behind the teal king, he fell silent as well, unsure of what else to say. The way Rob O talked, there was a soft, longing tone in his voice. What did that mean?
As they approached back to the castle, Silver halted at the gates, fiddling with his fingers and unable to look up at Rob O. He supposed this was a good time to leave and not trouble him anymore. “I...thank you for all you have done, sir. Really, nobody’s ever been so kind to me before.”
"What...art ye leaving?" There was a bit of an emptiness in his tone. He felt like he was losing someone, someone close. As he would always feel whenever one of his people decided to leave and travel to new places. Though they had just met he felt like he could have built a close friendship with the youth. Turning to face him, hands behind his back and holding that air of authority about him. He nodded in understanding. "All I have done is show ye what any true soul should show. Any less wouldst make me barbaric! I only hope ye will pass on what I have done for thou."
Silver’s ears drooped down, once again feeling a little awkward. “Well I...don’t really have any authority to stay here. But I am surprised. Even though I tried to steal from you, you still treated me so well.” He blushed a little, scratching his cheek. “I don’t know how much it’s worth...but if there’s anything I can do for you, sir, I’d be happy to repay you.” Even though Rob O had said that he needed no repay, Silver was determined now. Whatever he could do, he’d do it.
"Ye remind me so much of myself. So much.." He sighed, more at himself the situation. Running his fingers through his quills. "I had my own troubles, many, that had me within the same position as thyself. But I over came them, just as I hope ye will to." He raised his hand, shaking his head as the youth asked to repay him. "Ye art honorable, and I doth nay see much of that in the world. I respect ye, for thy honesty. I wish ye only to never change that about thyself." Silence fell between them again. "Though, I could always use more help about the castle." He added idly, but then shrugged and turned away..
“Oh...?” That sounded like authority to him. He would gladly stay here if given the chance. “In that case...if you’ll allow me, I’d love to stay and help out. I can’t do much...but I’ll help out in any way I can.” Reluctant to tell Rob O what he could really do, about his powers. Silver had no idea how the people here would react to such a thing. He didn’t want to take a chance.
"The kitchen and stables always could use a few skilled hands." He eyed the boy, not sure if he could suit either. Grinning. "Well, there is room for a good guardsman. We could use someone to watch and patrol the borders. Do you think ye wouldst be interested?" Yeah, perhaps rather ironic, but he had a feeling Silver would make a pretty decent guard. And there was never any real danger to worry about so the youth would be safe. Well maybe not so safe from his fellow guards. "Oh, but I am unsure whether ye wouldst like it.."
At least he seemed interested. “I don’t know either.” He had guarded someone once, and that was only from bullies. It was indeed ironic. “I’ll do whatever you...think I’ll be best at. It doesn’t really matter to me. I can cook a little but nothing too amazing.” As for the stables, he would have no idea what to do. But anything would be better than living on the streets. It just occurred to him that he had nowhere else to go. Silver shyly looked down, arms behind his back, awaiting instructions.
"Well, I suppose we can give ye a few days trial with each. And from there, we will give ye a permanent placement." He looked up at the sky, smiling as the soft breeze ruffled his hood and soft teal fur. Pulling the hood further over his eyes, sighing softly. Reaching out he gently ruffled the boy's quills. "There is still much left in the day, ye could enjoy this time to explore on thy own. I must tend to other matters." Turning his back to Silver, heading back into the castle.
Giving off a muffled objection when Rob O messed with his quills, he silently watched him go back into the castle as he straightened them out. Not only surprised at his kindness, but Silver was also surprised that Rob O asked for so little. He was sure the teal hedgehog would ask more questions, like what was he doing there in the first place or why was he so hungry when he was first found. Silver smiled. He wasn’t complaining. The less known about him, the better. After Rob O made his way into the castle, Silver stayed a little longer outside to take in as much as he could, then went back in. He had been given permission to look around the castle and intended to do just that if he was going to be working here for a while.

Rob indeed had work to do. Running a kingdom did require plenty of paperwork, passing of law, keeping order and tending to the needs of his people. Approaching his study where he would meet up with his 'wife' of sorts. Prior they would work together, thinking and sorting out what was most dire. Now it seemed what was more dire was their crumbling marriage. behind closed doors they avoided each other as best they could, avoiding facing the problem. The animosity never helped get things done. Hunched over the latest in growth in the fields, planning how things would be done when winter comes.
As he walked around, Silver conversed with some of the guards and servants. He learned many things from them, like how the castle was supposed to be guarded and how to properly address the king. But what he found most interesting was the ‘gossip’ surrounded Rob O, something he wouldn’t normally be interested in. According to some of the servants, the king and his wife were indeed having problems. They were barely in the same room with each other for very long, only when they had to be, and they never talked. That was rather odd. He would have liked to ask about it, but it really was none of his business. And besides, they were only rumors. Nothing convincing had been announced by Rob O himself.
Before he knew it, the day had gone and it was already nighttime. Silver stiffled a yawn and rubbed his eyes, going back up to his room. What a day, but very enjoyable. He couldn’t remember the last time he had so much fun. He hadn’t seen Rob O since they’d separated earlier that day and wondered where he was. Kings must live a busy life.
Dinner would be served by the time Silver returned to the castle. A guard would escort the youth to his room, passing the dinning hall. Rob O wore a sour look and gingerly ate beside his wife with his child handled by the nursemaid. Of course the hedgehog would be fed once he go to his room. Several servants would bring in a bit of everything that was offered at dinner. Fresh bread, fruit, and smoked meat. Even offering him some fine wine, as was customary.
“Huh...?” He’d never seen such a look on Rob’s face before. It didn’t suit him. “Um, excuse me...” Silver muttered, politely tapping the guard escorting him on the shoulder. “What’s wrong with Ro - err, I mean, the king?” Professional titles was still something he had to get used to. Unfortunately, the guard gave no specific answer, saying he didn’t know either, although he speculated that it had something to do with the queen. How strange. Once Silver got to his room, the food was soon gone, enjoying it immensely, and let his mind wander into wondering what Rob O...no, the king, he had to remind himself, would assign him to.
Dinner would come and go, as it normally did. This time he was faster then usual. The argument earlier had lessened the hedgehog's appetite. While Mari-an heading to bed with Jon, he would make his usual rounds around the castle. Passing by Silver's room in the process of heading to the baths to bathe before his usual walk. It always helped him think when he was clean. Plus the walk let him let loose his stress.
As the footsteps went by his room, Silver popped his head out the door to watch Rob O walk away. He seemed tense. Probably had to do with his sour expression earlier. Looking around to make sure nobody was coming or in the hallway, Silver grinned and began to glow a soft blue color, lifting himself a few inches off the ground with his psychic powers. He checked again, still nobody around. He didn’t want to be heard by Rob O as he approached, give him a little surprise. The teal king looked like he needed some cheering up. Floating as quietly as possible, he came right behind Rob O. “What’s the matter?” Silver asked innocently, dropping down onto the floor and glow dissipating as the words left his lips.
The teal hedgehog felt something on his shoulder, but he chose to ignore it for the most part. Brushing at his shoulder, feeling as though their was some invisible string tugging at his shoulder. Rubbing the back of his neck, figuring if it was all just the stress. The moment he heard those boots touch ground he whirled on his heels, his hand reaching out to grip at Silver's chest fur, the other hand pulled back and ready to deliver a fierce blow. Blinking...and instantly releasing Silver, apologizing rapidly. "I am sorry! I hath no idea! Please, art ye ok?" Years as a renegade during the rule of the High Sheriff had done it's damage, Rob O was on his toes at all time, whether he showed it or not.
Silver had not been expecting that response. As soon as he had been grabbed, he covered his face with his hands to shield it from any damage that might have come. Wincing at the pulling of his chest fur. The release also came as a surprise. He was expecting to be slugged. “Uh...yeah. I’m okay...” Silver began to smooth out his ruffled chest fur while continuing. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean surprise you. You just looked so troubled.” There went his plan of cheering the teal king up. He’d only just made it worse.
"Many pardons, Silver. Tis very unwise to sneak up upon a warrior king." Watching Silver adjust his fur, a bit of guilt settled in the kings chest. Looking rather sheepish, rubbing the back of his head, fingers rolling between his quills. "I..ah, thank ye for thy concern. Tis naught for ye to worry." Changing the subject quickly. "So how goes thy stay? Did ye enjoy time about the town? Tomorrow ye will be placed in thy first job, excited?"
Warrior king? Interesting. “Um, in order. It’s been really nice, yes I enjoyed it very much, and I’m actually pretty nervous.” He smiled. “It’s a beautiful castle, Ro - err, uh, Your Highness.” Tripping over his own words. Silver really needed to get used to calling people by formalities. “The people here have taught me some things and they’re all very nice.” He rose a brow. “Did you decide on what you would have me do first?”
Rob rubbed his chin, easily picking up what Silver was about to say. It was rather endearing how the youth tried to fit in so quickly. Brushing off the last question. He would leave that bit of information as a surprise for the white hedgehog. It would be pretty amusing. "I am glad ye like my home, my people, and my country. Please, no more talk of work and such things, that can be saved for 'morrow. Tis nightfall and ye should rest." Lightly tapping the boy's shoulder, turning, still intending for a nice long soak before his usual nightly rounds.
“He didn’t answer my question...” With a sigh, Silver turned back to his room, quickly going inside and collapsing on the bed. This was going to be a strange way of life, he decided. But he was committed to it now, no turning back. Not that he would want to. Silver’s eyes drooped and he quickly fell asleep, only hoping that he wouldn’t have any dreams. Dreams were usually nightmares to him. Strangely enough, it was dreamless.
Rob O listened to Silver walk away, grinning. Brushing his fingers through his quills. Quickening his steps toward the baths. He would enjoy his time alone. The bath was warm, inviting. As always he had plenty of time to think, to relax. His thoughts straying this night. Staring up at the ceiling, eyes unfocusing. "Such a strange one.." Thinking about Silver. The passed by rather quickly. Rob O slipped into his bed in the late hours of early morning.
The light sleeper that he was, Silver woke up fairly early with the noise of the servants going about, about two hours after Rob O finally got to sleep. He looked out the window and golden eyes widened. A sunrise? He’d never seen those before. The sky was always red where he was from. He needed to get a closer look. Opening the window and standing on top of the sill, Silver shaded his eyes from the minor sunlight. Nope, still not close enough. He looked around, making sure nobody could see. With it clear, Silver began to glow again and floated out his window onto the castle gates that surrounded the area. Much better. The view here was unbelievable. “How beautiful. Everyone here is so lucky, getting to see this every day.”
Rob O would normally be up around this time, but he had returned home later then he had intended. Even as his wife stirred and headed to breakfast, of course she never bothered to wake him, the king was out like a light. Now alone in bed he wrapped his arms around his pillow. For a moment he opened his eyes, staring out the window, debating whether or not to close the shade. Getting to his feet, stumbling to his window and catching a wondrous and fearful sight. It just so happened Silver's bedroom was just below the king's quarters.
Silver never noticed the teal hedgehog now watching him, the sunrise just captivating him, drawing his attention away from everything else. He was so focused on it, Silver didn’t realize that he was leaning a little too close over the edge of the gates. Only realizing it when he nearly fell off. He yelped slightly before catching himself, body beginning to glow again. A sigh of relief. “Whew...that’s a long drop. I should probably head back now...” Taking one last look at the sunrise, smiling, before literally walking on thin air up to his room and going through the window.
Rob O stared, mouth agape and eyes wide as saucers. When Silver 'walked' back into his room the teal king hedgehog stumbled back. Terrified and yet morbidly curious. "An angel..?" Rubbing his eyes, shaking his head in disbelief. This must have been a dream, an illusion brought on by lack of sleep. Crawling to the window, peeking out to find nothing amiss. Ruffling his quills he would crawl back into bed, curling up till the guards grew worried.
It had been a few hours. Where was Rob? Lunch had already come and gone. Still in his room? Silver asked the guards and they had confirmed that Rob O had not come out of his quarters all day. The feline captain soon walked up to the quarters, knocking politely. “My king? Are you well? You have not left your room today. Everyone is growing worried.”
The king sat beside his window, staring out at the town at the people below. Plopped down in his chair, elbow on the sill and head in his palm. Eyes were distant and unfocused. His other hand ran over his belly, ignoring the persistent growls. Ears flickering but he wouldn't answer. He was lost in his own little world, not wanting to go back. "...."
“I am unsure if he can hear me,” the captain explained to Silver, trying again. “Your Highness, Silver is out here waiting for you. You two are to discuss negotiations on his position here at the castle, yes?” Still no answer. The captain sighed and turned to walk back, explaining to Silver that the king must be feeling unwell for him to act in such a way.
“That’s fine. I can wait. I just hope he’s okay...” With that said, the white hedgehog went back to his room and sat down on his own window sill once again. The view was never tiring. He was still unaware of the king’s quarters right above him.
Rob O wouldn't stir till late in the afternoon. But instead of heading to lunch he went directly to the guard’s quarters, having a quick word with the head of the bunch. Discussing with them his plans of having Silver join their ranks. From there he demanded that no one come follow him later, as he would seek to have a private meeting alone with the white hedgehog, and out of the castle walls. From there he stopped to grab a few bites to eat from the kitchens, ignoring any and all questions from his staff. Heading down to Silver's room, knocking at the door.
The sudden knock startled Silver to the point where he fell back into the room and onto the floor, landing with a loud “oof!” Sitting up and rubbing his head the back of his head. That was going to leave a mark. “Ah, I’m coming...” Silver opened the door and was surprised to see Rob O there. “Oh. Your, um, Highness. Are you alright?” He politely stepped out of the way, expecting the king to come into the room.
The teal king eyed Silver, as thought expecting him to do something amazing right there and then. Hands behind his back, ears flattened. He tried to keep a calm expression, but after seeing that little show, his heart always skipped a beat when ever he saw Silver, or thought about it. Shaking his head he motioned for Silver to come with him. "Now. Follow." A bit forward, and he didn't wait a moment before turning and walking down the hall toward the stairs and exit.
“Huh...?” Well that had been unexpected. Rob O always seemed to be on the move, but Silver got the feeling that he didn’t want to test the king’s patience today. Running to catch up, the white hedgehog stayed behind Rob, not wanting to aggravate him further and staying silent the whole time they walked. The king had looked at him funny. He wondered what all this was about. Probably what he was going to do in the castle from now on, so why did it seem like there was more to it than that? And why did he suddenly have a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach?
Rob O lead the male out into the court yard and around the back entrance of the castle. They would cross into the garden and pass the newly created stone statues of the old kings. Family of Amy Rose. Silver wouldn't know this, but this place was only ever seen by a select few of the castle staff. Early fall that turned the leaves dark reds and oranges. The flowers perfect and some beginning to spread their seeds. Showing him out to the back gates, a nearly hidden passage and only the captain and himself knew of. The gates were stone and thick lining of trees shaded and created a natural barrier. This had often been the spot where Rob O would come to practice and think. The lining of trees were loaded with arrows and several targets hung from branches.
Looking around, Silver could easily say this was the most beautiful place in the castle vicinity. Even the statues made him stare in awe. The arrows made him a little confused though. Where had they come from? From what he knew, none of the guards used arrows. “This is beautiful...” Silver muttered, trying to lighten up the mood. He swallowed. “So, why are we here?” Not that he was complaining.
There would be a thick silence that would fall between them. Pulling his hood further over his head, shielding his eyes to hide his emotions. Silver would notice a bow a quiver sat beside an old tree stump. The king proceeded to pick up the once discarded items, testing the bow. Picking up one of the arrows, testing the sharpness of its head in turn. "Do ye trust me?" Brushing his thumb along the shaft, in a flash he had the item notched and pointed at Silver. Attempting to get a point across, before he turned and took aim at a target planted behind the hedgehog, high into the trunk of the tree.
The arrow was pointing at him, Silver stood completely still, eyes widened. He winced as it was released but slowly opened his eyes as the arrow shot right by him, only nicking his cheek slightly. That was lucky. His powers had almost kicked in. He touched the tiny scratch and wiped the blood away before answering. “I-I...yes...” It was hard to say. The false alarm had come completely out of nowhere. What was Rob O thinking? “I don’t understand though...” The king was good with a bow, frighteningly good. But what was the purpose of his move just now?
A bit of worry struck the teal king, whatever he had planned seemed to go awry. He had been expecting the white hedgehog to use his abilities to either stop the arrow or dart out of the way. At least he didn't shoot for his heart like he originally planned. The pained and scared look on Silver's face made his heart ache and the cut, minor and superficial, still hurt him. But he would tend to that later. Pointing up to the arrow he had just shot off. "Retrieve it."
Blink. He wanted him to... “Okay...?” Retrieve the arrow. Silver looked up where the arrow had landed. That...was pretty far up. Almost to the canopy. Turning around, he debated on how to go about doing the order. Climb the tree? And risk making a fool out of himself? Not that Rob O was heartless, but he didn’t feel like being laughed at. He’d never climbed a tree before, never had the chance to.
He was about to question why the king wanted him to do this task, but the look he received made him think otherwise. Yeah, today was not the day to try Rob’s patience. With a sigh, he turned back to the tree, thinking of only one way he could get the arrow without embarrassing himself. It was a bad idea, but... “Fine...” Almost instantly, Silver was enveloped in his warm, blue glow. Slowly, he lifted off the ground and glided up to the arrow, yanking it free from the bark and dropping back down. He then handed the arrow back to Rob O, expression blank but his insides swimming with worry. Now what...? Rob O had know about his powers, had planned that he would use them. Had to, there was no other reason why they would go through this trial.
The look Rob O gave him was one of awe and terror. When Silver approached him he dropped to one knee, lowering his head. Pulling his hood back, glancing up at the white hedgehog like he was the divine essence of the world. Placing his hand upon Silver's, tears in his eyes. "Angel. Serene divinity. I... ye must forgive me. I had to know. Ye art a blessing upon my kingdom! Have the heavens sent ye?" Looking rather flushed, ears pinned back. In all truth he knew there was something about this youth, and now his vision was solid. This youth was something amazing, and he was blessed with his presence.
Silver’s cheeks tinted red as the watched the teal hedgehog drop. Was Rob O bowing to him?! “W-wait, what?” A complete turn-around, Silver slowly shook his head. All he had done was retrieve an arrow and now he was being called divine? A little too much for the white hedgehog. “I’m...not sure I understand. I’m not an angel, far from it. Just...not from here, that’s all. Nothing amazing like what you’re calling me.”
"I have seen ye take flight like a heavenly angel. Ye art a...a.." Rob shook his head, unable to think of the word but it would have been something just as great as divine entity and almighty. "I saw what ye hath done earlier. Soaring for the heavens, ye seemed so much at home." He finally stood, his eyes filled with devotion and something...else. Keeping hold of Silver's hand, both standing so close. Reaching up with his other hand, lightly touching the mark on his cheek. "I am so sorry." He whispered sadly.
“You saw that?” Silver looked away, embarrassed. That explained a lot. “I was just going back to my room. Nothing like that...” The white hedgehog couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle. “I’ve just always been like this.” The touch on his cheek drew him back to attention, looking back to Rob O and now noticing how close they were. His blush grew more fierce. “I-it’s nothing...I’ve had worse.”
"Yes, I saw...t'was a wondrous thing. An inspiring sight to witness." Watching the flush grow on the male's face, but he ignored it. Trying to wipe the blood away from the wound. "Tis a shame, to be marred so." Placing his finger under Silver's chin, tilting his head to take a better look at the wound. It was just a nic, but it still made the king feel horrible. Whispering softly, "I will be honored...if ye will become my personal bodyguard."
Silver swallowed hard. Rob O was getting a little close...His eyes shined wonderfully when the king whispered in his ear, breath catching in his throat. “R-really? Me, your personal bodyguard...?” That seemed a little much in Silver’s point of view. He was barely expecting to be a guard at all, and now this. It was endearing that Rob O trusted him enough to appoint him to such a high priority position. “If you really think I’ll be able to, then I’ll be honored as well to do so.” The white hedgehog smiled up at his king. He could barely feel the scratch now.
"Great, tonight I will announce this to the others. There will be a feast, and ye shalt join us at dinner. A welcoming, of sorts. Ye will be a guest of honor." With that he picked up his things and began to turn back toward the castle. There would be much to do, and even more to train the boy. Simply declaring him his personal body guard was just the first step. There would be training, studies and basics he would need to learn. But Rob o would bring that all up later. Figuring Silver knew how to get back he didn't stop to let him catch up. "Oh, and thy secret is safe with me, my angel."
What was that, a petname? “Uh, thank you very much...” Silver watched him go, looking around the area some more but his mind and heart were racing, while his face felt very hot. This was probably the best thing that had ever happened to him. At least his powers were still somewhat a secret, but odds were that wouldn’t be for much longer.
Silver’s ears twitched and he turned around, suddenly getting the feeling that he was being watched. Nothing. “Must be my imagination...” Then again, he’d had that feeling before. No, it wasn’t him. Couldn’t be, he couldn’t be here. Confident now, he went back to his room, not noticing a strange shadow trailing behind him.

Night would come rather quickly, the sun setting in the horizon. The towns people would come to know what was going down in the castle by morning light. Rob O wanted everyone to know just how important the newcomer had become. The teal king had felt something for the youth the moment he had laid eyes upon him. There was a sort of confidence, a tenderness he could only show his closest friends. And with Silver innocence and determination that the bond felt almost brotherly. The kitchens would be bustling, a rush to prepare for a great meal that would not only include the royal family, but Silver and many of the highest guards. All to talk and enjoy this momentous occasion. Sitting at the head of the table would be Rob O, Mari-an, the guard captain to his wife’s left, while a seat would be placed at the kings right. Empty and waiting. A servant would be at Silver's door to fetch him.
The white hedgehog followed the servant to the dining hall, face blank. He wasn’t sure what to expect now. Everyone here always seemed to catch him off guard. This was going to be very interesting, he decided. They reached the dining hall and Silver stared in awe as he surveyed the room. The castle never ceased to amaze him. He was led to his chair and gave a small smile to the king next to him, very flattered by all of this. An embarrassed pink tint evident on his face. “Amazing...”
Rob O did his best to avoid embarrassing the male further. But of course he had to declare what he had told Silver in private earlier. It was official, Silver would become his personal guard, for reasons that need not be discussed. Of course not everyone seemed happy about the kings decision. The Captain was one of them, wearing a sour expression. "I trust him, as we will all. He hath shown me... that he is perfect for the job. Strong, honest, and I am sure, loyal." He patted the boy's shoulder. "Please welcome Silver the Hedgehog into our ranks!" There would be a slight cheer, and more bitter expressions, but before anything more could be said or done the food was carried in. Meats of the local wild life, seasoned and roasted to perfection. Fruits native to the region, and drinks that ranged from water to Meade to fine wines. Mostly for the guards.
It wasn’t hard for Silver to notice the bitter looks he was getting. He winced and drew away from the glares. Best to avoid them for now. He was committed so he couldn’t very will give up the position, especially since he hadn’t technically started, to people who were...what, jealous? Hopefully they’d get used to it...Silver politely declined the wine and just took a sip of water. “I appreciate this, I really do.” He still thought it was a bit much, but he wouldn’t argue. The food was delicious!
He sighed heavily, it seemed the king had noticed the looks Silver was getting too. Just meant he was going to have to hold a meeting either after this or early morning. He would not tolerate any ill deeds or talk. Choosing to enjoy some of the wine this time around. Lightly patting the boy's shoulder again. "Pay it nay mind. Enjoy." Soon everyone would be digging in, showing as much grace and table manners as the king. Small talk floated around. And yet the king and queen never spoke a word to each other directly.
How strange. Maybe the rumors surrounding the king and queen were true. Silver wouldn’t dare ask though. It was really none of his business. Many of the people around him asked how he got the position so quickly and Silver could only shrug. He honestly didn’t know himself. It couldn’t just be because Rob O knew he could float. What else did the king know?
The banquet ended after a few hours, most of the guards getting up and leaving without a word to Silver but a polite “goodnight” to their king. Silver hardly took notice though. He stood up along with them. “This was wonderful. Thank you so much.”
Since he had been fast asleep most of the day Rob O felt no fatigue. He was actually energized, particularly because of the excitement. Yawning, though just a show to his wife. Saying good night to Silver and his wife, excusing himself. As usual, he would head to the baths before making his rounds. But he planned on making a bit of a side trip tonight. Alone.
With a sigh, Silver flopped back into his bed, taking off his shoes and gloves. What a day. And tomorrow would probably be even more eventful. There was still a nagging feeling that he was being watched though...Looking up, ears twitching, he surveyed the room. No, there was still nothing there. He shook his head. “I’m being paranoid...” Once Rob O had finished in the baths, Silver planned to take one as well. He needed to clear his mind.
Perhaps one of the most enjoyable rooms in the castle, that and the library, Rob O tended to take his time. Lathering his fur, soaking in the warm waters. Submerged up to his neck in the soothing waters, eyes closed and head tilted back. Faint images fluttered in and out, most of them around the enigmatic hedgehog. A smile on his lips. Tonight he planned to visit the catacombs of the castles, there he had to make sure.. Drying himself off and replacing his hood with a fresh pair, he hurried down the hall, for one of stealth his footfalls rather loud. He was too excited, and he needed to seek out the last bits of information. Heading for the rarely used dungeons.
The running actually caught Silver’s attention. That couldn’t have been Rob O, could it? His footsteps were usually silent, while those were quite loud. He looked at the clock. It had been almost an hour, surely the king had to have been done by now, walking out, catching a quick glimpse of...a cape? Maybe a hood. No, that couldn’t have been the king. Raising a curious brow, Silver shook his head and headed down to the baths. Even if it was the king, he knew he shouldn’t pry, no matter how much he might have wanted to. And, oh did he want to.
Rob O would have sworn he was being followed. Ears twitching, tempted to look behind him but he never paused. Heading down to the lower parts of the castle. As usual guards were stationed at the door. What most wouldn't know was most of the real treasures of the Mercian castle were hidden beneath in the catacombs. As was all of the histories of kings past, but there was a very interesting piece of information. Waving his guards aside, he walked down the winding steps, picking up a torch on the way down. Pulling his hood further over his eyes, knowing this place better then anyone. Passing by limestone walls, paintings and carvings marked every inch. Stories of conquests and love. But what brought his attention was the stories beyond these. His life, the present. It was written in gold and spelled in red. It was said a white furred stranger would come and bring with him a new age of prosperity and wealth. A being of such power it would push the kingdom into a new age. But some of the images were chaotic depicting a dark creature of ice. Running his finger over the writing. This had been written so long he wasn't even sure what most of it said. But he believed in it with all his heart. Now he flipped and searched through the treasures, a swing of his arm would reveal piles of gold and gems collected over the years. Most of it stored just encase it was ever needed. Picking out something nice, he would slowly make his way back up the stairs, putting the torch back for next time.
A content sigh. The bath was just what he needed. Walking back, he noticed Rob O coming his way and smiled. “Oh, Your Highness, I thought I heard you running down the halls? What’s going on?” Trying not to sound like a concerned parent, he was just curious on why the king’s steps were so loud before. It wasn’t like him, he assumed. Silver also noticed Rob O was carrying something, a book. Did he go to the library?
Rob was lost in his own thoughts, head down as he clung to the book tightly. Gasping and glancing up as Silver addressed him. Blinking, he hugged the book to his chest. "Oh, ye should be sleeping, resting. Tomorrow there will be much to do." Smiling at the youth's curiosity. "Ah, I was merely seeking out some light reading."
Silver looked down as his ears drooped, suddenly feeling very awkward. His heart began to race. The way Rob O looked at him made his stomach tie itself in knots, and he had no idea what that meant. “Yes, err...” Scratching behind his head, Silver gave a slight bow as he opened the door to his room. “I won’t, um, keep you then. Goodnight, sir.” The door was closed and the white hedgehog leaned his back against it, face hot once more. That could have gone better. Somehow he always managed to make a fool out of himself around the king. “I need sleep...” he muttered, collapsing into the bed and falling asleep almost instantly. Unaware of the ominous eyes staring at him from the shadows.
Rob O watched Silver leave, rather confused as to why the youth always seemed to flustered. Shaking his head, figuring the boy was just a bit overwhelmed and tired, touching his hand against the door, staring at the finished wood. A look of longing on his face. Walking away with a feeling of dread suddenly settling in his chest. Heading to bed.
In Silver’s room, the eyes watching him disappeared, soon being replaced with an actual body to come with. The being almost looked like a hedgehog but was covered in a crystalized substance...almost looking like ice. The same being that Rob O had seen in the book. A sinister chuckle was let out as the small room suddenly dropped in temperature. Silver shivered in his sleep, curling up more to get more warmth, but did not wake.
“So you have been hiding here this whole time. I must say, I never expected you to show up in a place like this.” The being put an almost gentle hand on Silver’s cheek cut cheek, slicing it up a tiny bit more with the shards on his fingers. Silver winced but still did not open his eyes, almost like he was trapped in a nightmare. “What did that king call you? An angel?” It let out another laugh, showing two rows of incredibly sharp teeth. “Angel, right. You are anything but. Do not worry though. We will be reunited soon. When the time is right.” It leaned down and gave a little bite at Silver’s neck, disappearing instantly afterwards as that made Silver’s eyes snap open and he sat up, panting.
“Was it a dream...?” He felt his cheek. More scratches, and it was bleeding badly. He could still feel the bite on his neck. Sure enough, it was bleeding too. “Wha...what...” Oh no...
Rob O tossed and turned in his sleep. He could feel the darkness. The chill ran down his spine. Something was wrong, but he didn't stir. His dreams filled with dark images, but it all seemed to dissipate and be replaced with images of Silver. Lucky for Rob O he was pretty deep sleeper.
Well he certainly couldn’t sleep now. Deciding the best thing to do for now was to get rid of the blood, Silver went into the bathroom and quickly washed the blood off his cheek and neck with a soaked rag. The cuts were still noticeable though. Hopefully they’d be healed enough by morning to not be as noticeable. The bite mark was what really worried him. He had no idea how to disguise that, and the fact it was on his neck made it even worse. The large fluff on his chest couldn’t obscure it from view. Maybe...It was a ludicrous idea, but the only one that would probably work. Silver scratched at his own neck slightly, but enough to make some marks and to hide to bite marks. People would just assume the scratches on his face and neck came from the same thing. Still unable to sleep, he walked out of his room, deciding to take a walk. Nothing better to do.
Rob O woke with a start, the images in his head suddenly just 'popped' and were gone. It felt like he was falling for a moment. Sitting up in bed, running his fingers through his quills. Just realizing he had yet to make his actual rounds tonight. That was rather odd of him. Looking over at the night stand and finding the book was opened. He didn't remember doing that. Closing it he decided he might as well make a quick round and head back to bed. Drumming his fingers against the hard bindings. Ears twitching, picking up some movements. Going to his door, only in his socks this time around. Stepping out. "Hail?"
Lost in his own thoughts, Silver failed to hear the king’s call, arms crossed and pace slow as he continued. The “dream” was still fresh in his mind. “He can’t be here. I left him behind, I escaped...” Have to remain calm, don’t even worry about it...If only it was that easy. Silver absentmindedly rubbed the scratches on his cheek, accidently opening them up again. He didn’t usually swear but... “Dammit...”
Rob O raised a brow. He was pretty sure Silver would have paused and greeted the king without hesitation. Something was wrong. The way the youth was muttering to himself, that worried him more. That and the scent of blood. The kings senses were acute as ever, and picking up on the slightest trace of blood was easy to pick up. Following behind the hedgehog, worried. "Silver?"
Paranoia kicking in, Silver froze for a split second at Rob’s words before swiftly turning around. The blue glow surrounding him, his powers shot out and engulfed the king in the hold, freezing him instantly. Almost ready to crush him but stopped as soon as he saw who it was and released him. “I-I’m so sorry! I had no idea it was you, I didn’t...” This seemed way too familiar. This scene had already played out, only the other way around. “I’m sorry...” he repeated, looking ashamed.
He barely had time to let out a strangled yelp. His body frozen, heart racing in fear. Even as he was released, gasping for breath, he couldn't get his heart out of his throat. Looking up at Silver in a mixture of emotion. Had anyone else seen what he had done he would have been killed on the spot. Climbing to his feet, he pressed himself against the wall, eyes wide. Silver could have very well killed him... Could he have been wrong about the white furred hedgehog?
He was scared. The king was actually scared of him. Oh gods, what had he done? The way Rob O looked at him...It broke Silver’s heart. Looking away, eyes beginning to sting, ignoring the blood running down his cheek. “I thought you were somebody else...I didn’t mean to...do that to you.” He doubted that would win him any points. The white hedgehog turned back around and raced off, not at all as fast as Rob O himself, but fast enough to escape out of the castle in record time. He collapsed against a tree, trying very hard not to break down. “Damn you, Mephiles...” he whimpered, slamming his fist against the bark and the other hand covering his face. “Damn you...”
"..." He opened his mouth, reached out to the youth, but it was too late. His face flushed and eyes still filled with fear. Withdrawing his hand, pressing it against his chest. Sliding down the wall, pulling his knees to his chest. Dragging his fingers through his quills, he had never been so scared... and so intrigued at the same time. His heart raced with mixed emotions. By now Silver's fleeing had stirred several of the guards interests, the captain found the king in a near fetal position. Rob refused to let anyone touch him.

Confused but determined, the guards began to check around, soon noticing Silver was not in his appointed room. The captain growled, now beginning to catch on. “Search the primacies. I want him found immediately.” With a salute, the rest of them split to search while the captain stayed behind to keep an eye on his king. “My king, what has happened?”
Silver eventually began to calm down. With a sigh, he leaned back against the tree and straightened his legs out. Now what? He had pretty much destroyed anything he could have had by a stupid mistake on his part. “They’re going to come for me. Probably kill me too.” His strength was waning, fatigue catching up with him. Closing his eyes for only a moment but soon drifted off into a light sleep.
It took a few minutes before Rob O could calm down. But still refused anyone to touch him. Climbing to his feet weakly, holding his head in his hand. Looking up at his guard captain, shaking his head. "T'was naught. Get him back, put him in his room, lock down. Don't hurt him.." It was an order. Dismissing the stripped feline and headed to his room. Fetching his book he would be waiting in Silver’s room.
Silver hadn’t made it very far from the castle. About an hour later, the guards came back with the white hedgehog. His arms were cuffed behind his back and ankles loosely chained, enough so he could walk but still restrained. Silver refused to look up, ashamed to even make eye contact with anyone. He’d been thrown to the ground by a guard trying to subdue him, not helping his injuries any. They soon made their way to Silver’s room, the white hedgehog himself being pushed roughly inside before the door slammed shut and was promptly locked. He froze. Rob O was in the room with him.
Rob O was sitting in a chair beside the window. His elbow on the sill his gaze stared out to the sky, stars twinkling and the moon high. He heard the chains rattling long before they threw Silver into the room. His ear twitched, wincing slightly. When he could finally work up the nerve he turned to look at the youth. "We...should really stop meeting as such." His voice was soft, calm, and held no anger or bitterness. Standing, placing the book down on his seat. He placed his hands behind his back, his form like a stunning teal shadow, the moonlight seemed to be working its wonder on his quills, catching an almost shimmering light. Both terrifying and benevolent. "What...happened."
Staring at the teal hedgehog, Silver’s breath caught in his throat and his heart skipped a beat. There was no real way to describe how...powerful Rob O looked. Once the eyes drew to him, Silver immediately looked away, the gaze too much for him. “I...thought you were someone else. My powers just went...well, out of control I guess. Sometimes they’re hard to handle.” There was a slight pause. “I don’t know what else to say...” He could feel that familiar stinging feeling in his eyes again, but he refused to cry.
Watching Silver flinch brought a mix of emotion. Both interest and ache. He didn't want the youth to be afraid of him, but he also demanded that this incident never happen again. When the white hedgehog actually admitted he didn't quite have a firm grasp on his powers it did soften the blow to the kings tarnished ego and lessened the need to reprimand the youth. Closing the distance between them, placing one arm on his shoulder, the other tilted his head up. Just now noticed the deep gashes and only assumed it was from the guards rough handling. He scowled, lightly touching them before pulling away.
“I’m a psychic, to put it bluntly.” Silver gave a weak shrug, shutting his mouth after that, still not daring to look Rob O in the eyes, even when the king tilted his head up to face him. He winced a little as gentle fingers brushed against his scarred cheek, quivering at the touch. It was easy to tell that Silver was nervous. Rob O hadn’t really done anything yet, which he was grateful for. No telling how long that would last though. He struggled at the uncomfortable chains but otherwise made no movements.
Making a soft 'tsk' sound with his tongue at the bloody mess. That perfect white fur marred like such seemed like such a...crime. He didn't know what a psychic was and figured it was just another word for 'angel' or 'divinity'. "Psychic aye?" Noticing Silver struggle with his chains the king smiled softly. Scratching behind his ear and retrieving a small pin he usually stowed away. Being a master thief had never quite dulled with the times of peace. Holding the item between his fingers he turned his attention to the lock and began to undo them. His eyes down, watching his work. "I know ye could have easily broken free from such feeble bindings. Ye could hath fled to the heavens and be gone. Yet ye hath stayed." He knelt, beginning to undo the latches around his ankles. "Why?"
“I can’t break chains...psychic powers don’t work that way. At least I think they don’t. As for why I didn’t run away, I was too exhausted.” Silver got the feeling Rob O didn’t quite understand what he was saying. He sighed. “I know I’ve said it once, but I’m no angel if that’s what you’re getting at. Trust me, I’m not, I’m anything but that.” He rubbed his chafed wrists before setting them down at his sides, watching Rob O work at the chains on his ankles. What a strange ability for a king to have. But who was he to talk. “Thank you...” Voice was barely a whisper, almost inaudible. Ears twitching, listening intently to every word Silver had to offer. Be it as it may he was going to stand next to the term of Angel. As for Silver's excuse as to why he didn't flee, he supposed he could buy it. "Nay matter." Removing the first and second shackle he got to his feet. Replacing the pin and heading to the dresser beside the bed. The king was always prepared. Every room was stocked with medical supplies for just these instances. Old stone castles, there were bound to be some accidents. "Sit. I must tend to those scratches. Nay a reason to catch illness." Not getting into details about that. Pulling out a lightly wrapped kit that included makeshift bandages and salve amongst other things. Turning to the youth with intent to tend to him to the best he could.
Without argument, Silver sat down on his bed, allowing Rob O to get close and clean his wounds. The only noise he made was a little grunt of pain as it was cleaned. That had stung. Other than that, remaining silent, feeling just as out of place as he felt when he had first came to this castle. He shifted back uncomfortably as the wound was bandaged, scratching at it slightly before pulling his hand down.
Cleaning up after himself Rob o was rather silent. Once everything was put away the silence between them was becoming rather bothersome. Heading to the window, going for his book, but not before glancing outside the window. The night felt like it would never end, and he rather enjoyed the thought. "I... hope this doth not change thy mind about being my personal body guard."
Silver blinked, stunned, and actually looked up at Rob O for the first time since he had gotten back. “You still want me to? Even after I...even after what I did? What I almost did?” He was still delighted about the offer but couldn’t believe that Rob O still considered him for the job. The king was more kindhearted than he originally thought. Amazing. “I’d...I’d still love to...if you’ll still have me.” That, and the fact that the guards probably would not be very happy Silver was still in the position.
"Yes. Ye still fit the part, better than anyone I have met." He ran his fingers over his book, he'd show the youth another time. Turning to face Silver, catching his eyes. The dark green luster obvious even in the shadows. Eyes half lidded, his smile secretive, almost seductive. He walked past the male, but stopped. There was a bit of hesitation. Turning to the white hedgehog, he leaned forward, cupping his chin and looking him in the eye. He studied Silver's response before inching his lips close to the others.
A nod. He couldn’t believe this. Becoming lost in his own thoughts but was soon pulled back by Rob O cupping his chin and pulling their faces close together, noses almost touching. Silver blushed furiously, unsure what was going on. Rob O made his way closer, now their lips almost touching. Silver unconsciously licked his lips then swallowed. What was this...feeling? “U-uh...Your Highness...?”
He held the position longer, their breath mingling. His eyes dropping, a lustered look in his eyes. The light green eyes were a lustered emerald, big, almost threatening to swallow Silver up. Just an illusion brought upon by the moonlight. "Please, call me Rob O." A smile crossing his face, almost waiting for something to happen. If nothing did in the next few moments he would pull back, ready to apologize.
The eyes were what did him in. They were just so beautiful. Without thinking, Silver leaned slightly forward, making their lips touch in a soft kiss. It was so shy. Silver held there for a while before pulling back, completely embarrassed. “I don’t know what came over me,” he said, almost in a teasing fashion. Rob’s lips had felt...nice. Very soft and kind. “B-but, your eyes are very beautiful...” If anything, he was the angel, not himself.
Rob O held the kiss tenderly, rubbing Silver's chin lightly. Chuckling softly, pressing his forehead against the youth's. All that was pent up inside of him was simply...gone. His heart beating rapidly in his chest, yet he felt as light as air. "Thankee." He murmured softly, pulling away. Bidding Silver a good night as he turned and began to leave.
His voice had left him, Silver only giving a shy wave as the king exited. Once the door was closed, the white hedgehog let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. That was...wow. His lips were still burning wonderfully from the kiss. But what did it mean? Silver had been acting on instinct when he kissed the teal hedgehog and the sensation was amazing...and Rob O didn’t seem to mind it either. They had shared a kiss...but then what? What would happen next?
The kiss that riled his senses, his heart a thundering roar in his chest. He didn't know what came over him. From wanting to tend to the youth's wounds, to the sudden need for closeness... it just came in on the spur of the moment. The look in Silver's eyes, the taste of his lips. What he knew was sinful had felt so right. Brushing his fingers over his lips, licking them lightly. Of course he would keep the guards stationed outside his door, heading back to bed. Not slipping into sleep so quickly, opening his book and shifted through the pages. Written within were images and stories of a white furred knight of sorts, the sheer sight of him was awe inspiring and with him he brought tranquility and a new age of progress and peace. A story hundreds of years ago, said to once more take place. "Amazing..."
Feelings of being watched gone for now, Silver slumped back into bed, blush still prominent on his cheeks, hearing the guards confirm that they were going to stay. Well, at least he was almost alone. Enough to gather his thoughts in peace. He would lay there for hours until the sun started to peek its way through the horizon. Surprised, Silver sat back up. “Morning already...” No telling what would happen. He was aching to see Rob O again...maybe share a few more kisses. He could still taste it. Wishful thinking?
The king woke to the shifting of his wife in bed. The sensation usually never stirred him from sleep, but she deliberately seemed to want to wake him. That was never a good sign. The moment they locked eyes a fight was bound to break out. Of course they knew how to keep their voices down as to avoid detection, but the heated words usually struck harder then ever throwing a fist. And in the end it was usually, oddly, Rob O who was cowed. Both dressing and leaving afterward. His anger swelling, he would avoid breakfast this morning. As for Silver, their would be breakfast in bed today, served by the Guard Captain himself. Silver's training would start today...without the supervision of the king.
With a yelp of the door opening and slamming shut, Silver quickly looked away from the eyes of the captain. He did not look happy. From the actions last night, none of the guards were probably happy with him. The captain guard set this food down on the desk and continued to stare at Silver. A mixture of resentment and confusion. What was it about Silver that the king liked so much? He couldn’t understand it.
Rob O had demanded that the Captain, Tobby the Tabby, never a fan of his own name, tend to Silver and treat him with utmost respect. Today would be an overview of the basics. He would be testing his defense, offense, reflex, and mental wit. The youth should have gotten his rest. The king, as was usual after the tussle with the wife, in the garden, seeking the silent comforts of the green leaves and wild flowers. His son would be with him this time, which was surprising. Usually Mari-an would take him along with her for the day. Seemed things were looking up already.
While Rob O was bonding with his son, Silver’s training went on throughout the day. By the end of it, Tobby had actually begun to enjoy Silver’s company. Maybe he wasn’t so bad after all. The training ended at midnight and Silver was filthy, his quills all spread out and white fur soaked in sweat. Immediately he went to the baths afterwards to relax his tired muscles. “That was rough...” he muttered, continuing to rid his body of the dirt and sweat that had accumulated on his fur.
The day passed, toting his son around with him. At times he would visit the training grounds in silence. Whenever Silver was running through a course he would call Tobby off to the side, asking about the youth's progress. Rather impressed, though he had expected more. It seemed Silver was still keeping his powers secret. Maybe that was for the best. A little secret to be kept between them. Dropping his son off with his mother, visiting Silver in the baths.
Ears perking up, turning his upper body around to face Rob O. He smiled. “Good evening,” he said politely. Truth be told, he hadn’t seen the king around for the past few days during his training, let alone talk to him. Though catching him in the baths wasn’t exactly what he had in mind. He blushed slightly, the kiss coming back into mind, but he could blame that on the heat coming from the bath.
He leaned against the door frame of the baths. His arms crossed, head resting on the frame. This may not have been the place for small talk but there had been so little time to actually get to speak to the youth. Scratching behind his ear, trying to find something appropriate to talk about... Ancients be damned, it was hard to think straight with Silver soaking so peacefully in the warm water. The flush went unnoticed. "How goes the training?"
Turning back around, relaxing in the warm water again, oblivious to Rob’s thoughts. “It’s going alright, I guess. Really tough though, but I’m learning a lot...” Rob O was correct in thinking that Silver had kept his powers a secret from the others. To him, it was just better that nobody should know. Picking up the soap, Silver began to scrub his arms.
He was silent, debating whether or not to join the white hedgehog. Since the kiss he was unsure of his feelings toward the male. Now finding himself staring, rubbing his fingers over his lips. Ears pinning back he came to a conclusion. Slowing removing his gear, just encase Silver happened to find his intentions intruding he could easily stop and place his clothes back on. First his gloves, then his hood.
Silver didn’t notice Rob’s movements until the hedgehog king actually slipped into the bath next to him. His blush turned furious. Okay, deep breaths...He couldn’t very well say anything. Rob O had the right to get into his own bath when he wanted to. He was debating whether or not to get out himself, but his body wouldn’t listen to him and he stayed put. “U-um...Rob, I...” Silver could very well guess what was on both of their minds, finally turning to look at the king.
The king's eyes were closed, completely and utterly relaxed. His chest rising a falling, the steam from the baths swirling around him, tilting his head toward Silver. One ear perked, the other resting against his head. "Hmm?" Playing it coy, opening one eye, lips curling into a small smile. "Something on thy mind?"
He wanted to play it that way? That was just cruel. “It’s just...” Feeling very awkward, Silver was tripping over his own words. “W-well, about what happened a few days ago...” He wasn’t sure what to say next. After all, it was him that had actually instigated the kiss. “I don’t know what came over me. Sorry...”
A hand would gently cup the boy's chin, holding him in place as he leaned in. Lips meeting in an unsuspecting kiss. Watching Silver squirm bothered him more then he thought it would. "Nay reason to be sorry." He murmured against the male's lips. Closing his eyes, planting soft, sweet kisses on those ever so soft lips.
A surprised squeak came from the white hedgehog when the contact first hit, too surprised to realize he wanted to kiss back. When Rob O spoke, Silver caught his breath and began to realize what was happening. Rob O really was kissing him. “Uhhn...” Confused, terribly confused, but hesitantly kissed back after a few moments. Whatever this was...Silver liked it. His cheeks and lips burning once they pulled away to breathe. “W-what...” He stared into the king’s eyes, instantly getting lost in them.
He blinked, looking a little confused himself but it was quickly replaced by a shy, almost timid smile. He was new to the sensation as well, but it didn't stop him. Brushing his thumb over his lips, staring into those perfect golden eyes. Brushing his lips against the youth's, craving more of those sweet kisses, but he would let him breath, even pull away if he wished. "Do ye...wish to stop?"
“...” His silence was misleading. “No...” Silver moved forward this time and connected their lips, much like their first experience. “I...like this. Whatever it is, I like it.” Despite the odd settings where this took place, neither of them seemed to care at the moment. Silver continued to kiss Rob O, getting a little more brave with every one, actually putting his hands on the teal hedgehog’s shoulders.
"Tis a kiss, my Angel." Did he not know the name of such a simple and tender gesture? It seemed his innocence ran a lot deeper than he thought. His other hand cupping Silver's cheek, caressing his jaw, neck, over his shoulder. Wrapping his arm around Silver's chest, holding him close.
Accepting the gesture, Silver curled up in Rob’s chest. He felt incredibly safe, the safest he’d ever felt in his life. “You called me that again...” Missing the fact that Rob O had used a possessive term. Butterflies fluttering in his stomach, Silver could feel Rob’s heart beating incredibly fast. His own heart had a rapid pace as well. Eyes half closed. Everything felt so wonderful...
"Hmm?" He murmured, brushing his lips along the male's collarbone. He had never felt such a powerful attraction before. For a male no less! Not even the moment he laid his eyes on his wife had he ever felt so...right. Nudging his cheek, kissing along his jaw to his ear, nibbling on it lightly. Fingers between the other's quills. The warmth of the waters was nothing compared to the heat building between them. Closing his eyes, lips kneading the soft flesh of Silver's ear, murring.
A tiny purr escaped from Silver as the motions around his ears continued. His ears were fairly sensitive, that much became obvious. “Mmn...” These emotions were new and strange to him but he was beginning to get the general idea. He felt something for Rob O, what it was he wasn’t sure, but it was a powerful feeling. Ignoring the fact they were the same sex, what did it matter anyway? He just enjoyed the feelings and motions. Silver was well aware what love was but...wait, love? Where had that come from?

Arms held onto Silver, weight shifting. Placing the youth on his lap as he sat back, his hands moving down to grip at the hedgehog's waist. Flicking his tongue over the male's ear, his fingers brushing up and down Silver's spine. Cupping his cheek, tilting Silver's head up, once more catching his gaze. Gods how his heart raced, his stomach knotted and he couldn't get a word out. What would he say? What could he! The feelings a great conflict he put aside for now. Pressing their noses together, breath mingling. He felt like he could stare into those glorious golden orbs forever.
Silver smiled up at him, confusion mixed with happiness written all over it. Breath speeding up, face flushed, he once more leaned forward and gave Rob O a tiny peck on the lips. Leaning against teal’s chest afterwards. “Are...you alright?” He asked, growing a little concerned at the silence. Maybe Rob O was just as confused as he was.
He frowned, wanting to keep the sensual contact. "Aye.." He cooed, resting his head on his shoulder. Rubbing his back, blowing on his ear. Confused or not, Rob O wouldn't say. He felt what he felt and that was it. He was never one to hold back, and to prove it he cupped Silver's head again, tilting his head back. "I hath never been better.. since ye hath been in my life."
“O-oh?” His eyes widened slightly. Rob O seemed determined to keep eye contact. “Well, I feel the same...My life wasn’t that great before I met you. I owe you so much, you know...” If he was going to stare, then Silver would mimic him, becoming lost in the other’s eyes. Something about them just mesmerized him. “A-and...” Silver trailed off, losing his train of thought, too perplexed by the eyes that seemed to be staring into his very soul.
He blinked, tilting his head, his smile soft and simple. Running his thumbs across the hedgehog's jaw and over his throat. He could tell he was making Silver uncomfortable with all his staring, but he just couldn't help it. Apologizing in a form of a kiss. Eyes slipping closed, brushing his tongue across his lips, seeking entry "Just...kiss me."
Unsure what he meant at first but soon figured it out when Rob O began prodding his mouth with his tongue. Hesitantly, Silver opened his mouth and allowed Rob O to slip inside, giving a soft moan. The king seemed to know what he was doing, at least to Silver. The white hedgehog tried to kiss back but was quickly becoming overwhelmed.
His tongue dipped between the inexperienced male's lips. Sliding the smooth muscle over his tongue, caressing him, coaxing him into action. Going slow, ready to stop the moment Silver gave a push. Moaning against his lips, the youth's sweet taste mixed with the sheer tenderness of the moment was stirring another feeling in his gut. Pulling his hips back, trying to avoid the close contact. Finding it was becoming harder and harder to keep himself under control. Maybe he was moving a little too fast..
He wished this moment wouldn’t end, but the both of them had to breathe. Silver pushed as gently has he could and their lips separated, the white hedgehog breathing rather hard. He put a few fingers over his lips, a tingling feeling still noticeable. That had been a rather...intimate kiss. He could find no other words to describe it. Silver noticed that something new was shone in Rob’s eyes, but he couldn’t quite place it. What was on his mind? He was about to say something but a yawn cut him off.
"Tired? I am sorry, forgive me. Ye hath been working so hard." He frowned, feeling rather selfish. Caressing his cheek, helping Silver off of his waist. Picking up the soap, lathering it in his hands. "Please, allow me to help ye finish.."
“Ah, no that’s not necessary. I can do it myself - mmph...” Rob O starting to clean his face cut him off. The feeling was actually very comfortable. He’d never had someone bathe him before. Keeping his mouth and eyes closed as his face was cleaned, he opened one eye once he started somewhere else. “You don’t...have to.”
"Shhh, just relax." Rinsing off Silver's face he lathered up his hands again, working his way over the male's neck and shoulder, running his fingers through his chest fur, his gaze lowered to watch his hands work. A somewhat distant look in the kings eyes. Never once going lower then his chest. "Turn around.." His voice more husky then he meant it to be, swallowing the lump in his throat.
Quivering slightly as Rob O washed his neck and down to his shoulders, Silver let out pleased sound as the king ran his fingers through his chest fur. “O-okay...” Strangely compliant to Rob O, just too tired to think. He slowly turned around, missing the husky tone in teal’s voice.
Working from the back of his head, tending to Silver's long quills before getting the back of his ears, neck, shoulders, taking his time working the suds in between the male's quills. At the same time he kneaded and tended to the sore muscles in the hedgehog's back. Falling into a sort of rhythm, a small smile on his face. Content with tending to the need of another. The switch in roles... was oddly liberating.
Silver had his eyes closed the whole time, finding the whole situation oddly relaxing. Rob O was very good with his hands...He couldn’t help but let out a soft whine when the washing was finished. Aww... “T-thank you very much...” He purred, rubbing his eyes tiredly. The bath (or was it a massage?) relaxed him so much he was afraid he would fall asleep in the water if he wasn’t careful. Curling up with Rob O, eyes drooping closed, breathing becoming steady. He couldn’t help it.
"T'was naught." He chuckled, rinsing himself and Silver off. Taking notice of how tired the younger hedgehog seemed to be. Offering his arms as a temporary comfort. Soon the waters would cool and that wasn't going to be comfy for long. Brushing the back of his fingers over Silver's cheek. Leaning down, brushing his lips over his ear. "Come now, t'would be odd for me to carry thee to thy bed. Wake." As much as it hurt him to he had to get the boy up and on his feet. Helping him stand and getting him a towel.
He whined, like a child not wanting to get out of bed in the morning, but complied, slowly drying himself off. His mind may have been drowsy but as they walked out into the hall, it started to wander. What did he feel for Rob O? It was obvious they were “more than just friends” at this point. So what did that make them? He stopped his thoughts with a yawn. He’d think about it in the morning. “I suppose so...the bath felt wonderful though. I appreciate it.” Silver blushed, scratching his cheek nervously. “Good night then...”
Rob O chuckled, admiring the child like behavior of his companion. Walking side by side, hands at his side, showing nothing that would give away his conflicting feelings. Rubbing behind his ears, feeling equally tired. Stretching his arms over his head, stopping outside of Silver's bedroom door. Ruffling his quills, leaning in to his ear, muttering softly. "G'night and good morrow my Angel." Pulling away he turned to walk away.
With a sigh, Silver walked into his room and got into bed. Angel, heh...if only he really knew.

Hours later, Silver woke up with a gasp, face red. He had been given a break from training today so he slept in quite late, especially for him. Because of that, he’d had plenty of time for him to dream about...well, things. Things that involved Rob O. He hadn’t been about to get the teal hedgehog out of his mind all night, and his dreams had proved that. Their kisses still rang fresh in his mind...as did his dream. So what were they now, a couple?
Wait...didn’t Rob O have a wife? “Then...why was he kissing me...?”
Rob O didn't get a wink of sleep. His body ached, and not from the lack of sleep. He knew what he had done was wrong, he was married! Unhappily, perhaps, but taken either way. He was betraying an ancient law, a sacred oath between himself and Mari-An. But did it matter that what he had between Silver made him happy? Dragging his fingers through his hair, tossing and turn all night. When morning came his wife left without a word. Alone in bed he had to face this problem. Fingers running down his face to his lips...that kiss still lingered. Eyes fluttering shut his mind returning to that moment in the bath. Why was he so tempted..
Silver felt like his heart was literally breaking. He did like Rob, that much was he was certain of...but that should not have happened. The king was already taken anyway. Hell, he even had a kid! “So then...why did he toy with me last night? For fun? Is that all I’m good for, just being used?” Not one to get angry, Silver settled on weeping silently in his hands. He was so confused. What was Rob O doing to him?
Sitting up in bed Rob O had to face the problem at hand. But what could he choose? He could have settled for his relationship...if that was what it could be called, to be done in secrecy, but it would eat at him. But he couldn't deal turning Silver away, and dismissing his wife for a love he wasn't even sure Silver shared for him? Head hung, rubbing violently at his ears. He couldn't decide, he couldn't... face the answer.
“I need some air...” Trying to avoid running into someone, Silver opened his window and jumped out, giving himself a soft landing. A quiet place to think, void of interruption. He hoped there was something like that close by. If he was gone too long, guards might come after him again. Not an experience he cared to repeat.
It was easy to say he enjoyed spending time with Rob O, especially last night. He’d never been handled so gently before the king came into his life. And Silver loved kissing him. So put all of it together and what did he get?
Rob O wouldn't see Silver's little escape, thought even if he had there would be little he could do. But he did feel something amiss. Clasping his hand over his chest, feeling an odd emptiness. He couldn't stay in bed and avoid this problem, as much as he would have liked to. Just as his duties as King required him to put himself out on a limb for those he loved, he had to face his demons. Heading to Silver's room, rubbing the back of his head, knocking lightly.
He eventually settled on hiding out in Rob’s private training grounds, the place where Rob O had first found out about his powers. He knew not many people came here and hoped said king wouldn’t for a while. The scenery helped calm him down, staring at the statues, just needing to be alone for the moment.
Silver also knew that his lifestyle had changed drastically for the better since he had come to this castle. He could not thank Rob O enough. “If he really wants to kiss me...I suppose it’s the least I owe him.”
Rob O had searched the castle, going through every inch, passing through every floor looking for Silver. He did his best not to arise suspicion, which was becoming harder to do as his search became frantic. Did Silver leave? Gods, his heart felt cold and his stomach rolled. He felt sick, brushing his hand over his stomach, feeling an emptiness. Going through the garden first... when he found no sight of the white furred hedgehog he plopped down on one of the ivory benches, hunched over with his head in his hands.
At least talk to him, Silver reasoned with himself. See what he has to say about this. It was the only thing he could do at this point. Standing up and walking out of the training grounds, he was surprised to see Rob O himself sitting on a bench. He looked upset. Concerned, Silver walked over to him. “Rob...? What’s wrong?”
Ears twitched, looking up from his hunched position. His eyes were glassy, as though he was on the verge of breaking down and actually crying. Brushing his fingers across his eyes, trying to erase the signs. Sitting back on the bench, trying to look as casual as he could, pulling it off well enough. "Silver.." His smile was soft, weak, as thought he would break down at any moment. "Tis naught. Where have ye been about?"
Silver blinked in confusion. If he didn’t know any better, he could have sworn he saw tears in the king’s eyes. Why did he look so pained? “I just...needed a quiet place to think, that’s all.” Wanting to reach out and wipe the remaining tears away but he wouldn’t dare to. “You look so sad. Did something happen?” He wasn’t fulfilling his duty as Rob’s body guard if that was the case, ears drooping down.
He shook his head, lowering his gaze as he rubbed his ear. His shoulders sagged and his expression, shielded, looked grim. He couldn't face Silver. The innocent, caring look in those big golden eyes... Gods how he wanted to loose himself in them, if only for a night. A full night...filled with just Silver in his arms. Rubbing his palm over his forehead, looking as though he was under immense strain. Why did things have to be so hard?
“Oh...” Scratching his cheek nervously, Silver spoke again, just wanting to get this over with. He needed answers. “Rob, listen...a-about last night...I know I made the first kiss, but why didn’t you...stop me? I mean, why did you go along with it?” This wasn’t coming out the way he wanted to. For all he knew, he could be making things worse.
"I love ye." He muttered softly under his breath. Looking up, meeting the youth's eyes. Those words were harder to say then he thought.. But the way Silver spoke about it made him feel like it was wrong. Like he had no similar feelings. Getting to his feet he got up to leave.
He barely heard it, but those three words made Silver’s eyes widen. “U-uhn?” He could barely make a coherent sound. Was Rob O serious? He couldn’t ask because the teal hedgehog had begun to walk away. Thankfully, his voice came back. “W-wait!” He grabbed onto Rob’s arm, expression full of confusion and something else. “Don’t leave...Did you mean that?”
The king paused, shuddering under the touch. He couldn't very well just leave, not like this. His heart ached and he wanted to be alone. He made himself look like a fool, and Silver's lack of equal comment wasn't helping. "I always mean what I say." His words more defensive then he meant.
The grip tightened on the teal arm. Silver refused to let Rob O go just yet. His heart was beating a mile a minute, happiness couldn’t be measured out, but he was still unsure. “B-but...don’t you already have someone?” That was his main worry, Rob O just using him. He couldn’t picture the hedgehog king to be that cruel...but sometimes one could never be too sure.
"Tis...complicated." Gods why did he have to bring this up? Shoulders slumping, defeated. A show of weakness he had never shown another. Pressing his hand over Silver's, looking at the hand, up along his arm to his face. In a flash he had leaned in, pressing his lips against Silver's, pushing his tongue between the male's lips. Unlike the kisses before they were in the open, public, where anyone could catch them. "Just... doth not leave me.."
Caught by surprise, Silver’s gasp made it all the more easier for Rob O to slip inside his mouth. Moaning softly, Silver hesitantly kissed back, enjoying the taste and the feeling as much as he did last night. Breathing slightly hard as he was released, cheeks pink. The kiss said it all. At least, he hoped so. “I won’t...” Silver muttered, giving Rob O a tiny smile. “I love you too.” Four simple words, yet they were the most important words he’d ever said in his life.
He wrapped his arms around the male, cheek against cheek. The soft, warm feeling of the white hedgehog in his arms was perfect. How the younger hedgehog fit was perfect, welcoming the new sensation burning in his chest as Silver offered up the same words. Just as confused about his feelings, about whether this was right or wrong. But he wouldn't be alone... and that's all that mattered. But the problem that still stood between them was... the queen.
“Mmm...” Not hesitating in the slightest, Silver hugged him back. He still was unsure about a lot of his feelings, namely what would happen when the queen did find out, but he pushed those aside for now. All he knew was that he loved Rob O and that was all he needed. With all the kind things he had done for the white hedgehog, what was not to love? Kissing him gently on the neck before pulling away, smile still on his face. He couldn’t remember the last time he had been so happy. “I’d never leave you. Promise.”
He shuddered under the light kiss. Made in the public and right over his pulse, it made his heart flutter and tempted the king all the more. Cupping Silver's chin with his forefinger and thumb, his smile wide, tender and loving. "Even if ye did, I fear I wouldst follow thou to the ends of the earth." Eyes flickering down to those lips. Brushing his thumb back and forth over them before breaking contact. As sweet and innocent as those kisses were, he would crave more. And that didn't help settle his mind at all.
Silver grinned slightly, flattered by Rob’s words. In truth, he would do the same. Silver was well aware that someone could see the two of them out in the open like this, the queen included. That would not be a pretty sight. But the moment was just to beautiful to end. “Do you...want to go somewhere private?” So taking the moment to somewhere else was the best thing to do.
Those words made him flush, another rare moment for the hedgehog. But he smiled, something a little more mischievous than usual. Nodding his head, gripping Silver by the wrist, he knew the perfect place. "Come." The castle was off limits for where they had in mind. Leading him to the king’s private training grounds.
His grin got wider. He’d actually made Rob O blush! Silver laughed cutely as the king led him on. “Perfect.” Nobody would bother them here. He wondered if the queen even knew about it. Forgetting about it, Silver embraced Rob O from behind, giving content purrs into his back. Enjoying the alone time they had. “So what would you like to do?”

(Hours later...)
Silver slowly began to dry himself as Rob O handed him a towel, completely drained from everything that happened in those few short hours. The best few hours of his life, however. Leaning heavily against Rob O when he was dry enough, eyes drooping closed. He could fall asleep right here, his body screaming at him to get some rest. Of course, his sore behind would object if he sat down, but that had to be done either way. “Stay with me...?” He whispered, wanting to hold Rob O in his arms, or the other way around.
Rob O still had stamina to spare. Feeling rather playful now, pulling Silver into his arms. Licking the rim of his ear. Laughing softly at Silver's predicament, and smiling gently at his request. He couldn't say no to a face like that. Helping Silver to his room, leaving their clothes back at the baths. Helping ease the youth into bed. "Sleep."
He didn’t need to be told twice. Curling into Rob’s lap, wrapping his arms around the teal hedgehog’s waist, Silver fell asleep almost instantly. Content purrs and a smile on his face as he slept, he made sure Rob O was close, loving his warmth and touch. Silver mumbled a few incoherent things in his sleep but otherwise made no sounds besides his gentle breathing. He was calm, content, never wanting this moment to end.
The teal king blinked, laughing softly. Silver was so innocent, so gentle. Caressing the boy's cheek, running his fingers over his quills and along his back. His eyes dropped, smiling as he watched the youth sleep. The soft rise and fall of the hedgehog's chest, the sound of his breathing, it was perfect. Watching him for a few hours before he would finally slip into unconsciousness. The blanket pulled up around them. Resting till morning... of course the shadows around them always watching.
Glowing eyes observed the hedgehog lovers from said shadows, finding the whole scenario amusing to say the least. “Mmm...so this king can honestly say he has feelings for something that does not belong to him? Interesting...And Silver seems to enjoy all of this. How typical of him. I suppose I shall wait...This is piqued my curiosity.” The figure slumped back into the shadows, an evil chuckle following in his wake. Continuing to observe. “Foolish king, you cannot take that which is not yours.”
Rob O stirred in his sleep, feeling something amiss. Ear twitching, shuddering in his sleep, he wrapped his arms protectively around Silver. The sheer presence of the darkness was giving him graphic nightmares. Even as he broke out in a cold sweat he did not wake from his sleep.
By the time midnight had come, Silver’s paranoia jolted him from his sleep, breathing rather hard from the nightmares. Rob O wasn’t the only one with them. They were so vivid. He could remember every detail from his dream. Something he wished was not true. Little did he know, the book Rob O was keeping was not far from the truth. However, a major detail was kept out, something Silver did not want to talk about, let alone think about.
Not wanting to think about it any longer, or at least try not to, Silver turned to the teal hedgehog next to him and began to stroke him behind the ears. He let out a few quiet purrs. Rob O felt so soft.
The teal king murred under Silver's touch. Even with the nightmares the hedgehog's touch seemed to calm him. His trembling stopped, his chest rising and falling slowly. Turning his head toward the youth's fingers. Beneath the sheets Rob O's tail wagged. It would have been a rather humorous sight. Muttering Silver's pet name under his breath.
Silver couldn’t help but laugh as he caught the movements of Rob’s tail under the blankets. Kissing him on the cheek before blushing when he heard the rather ironic pet name spoken. His ears drooped, brushing a few strands of quills away from the teal hedgehog’s face. “I wish I could tell you...” Silver mumbled with a sigh, not noticing the dark figure in the shadows and the chuckle it made at the words. It had obviously heard everything, including what Rob O had said.
In his dreams, seemingly a sudden shift, he drempt of Silver and himself together over looking a burning horizon. A fire consuming the land, followed by a wash of complete shadows. From what had once been a joyous field was sleeping into a cold darkness. He shuddered in his sleep, letting out a sigh that seemed to freeze in midair. It began to sound like he was drowning, flailing weakly.
“I’m sorry...” The Silver in his dream spoke, tears streaming down the white hedgehog’s cheeks. “It’s all my fault. I never meant for any of this to happen...”
“Rob...?” His king looked so pained in his sleep. “Hey...wake up.” Silver began to shake Rob O awake, figuring that this was one dream that didn’t need to be seen. “C’mon, wake up.”
Rob O tried to reach for the dream Silver. His grip fell short, a rift growing between them as the hedgehog was steadily beginning to spilt them apart. He could hear another's voice, deep, dark and very much male. It was the force that was driving his love away. Pulling his hand to his chest, feeling a growing ache in his chest. The world was ending, but all he could care about was he was losing the greatest thing to him, the only reason to live. "Silver.." All the shaking couldn't stir him, curling up in Silver's lap, silent tears rolling down his cheeks. He felt a pressure on his chest, he felt like he was dying..
The dream Silver began to back away, shaking his head as Rob O tried to catch him. It was too much to take. Just as he was about to run, the dream Silver was suddenly engulfed in a black flame, complete darkness, but the screams coming from it were real to Rob O. It seemed to last forever, and once it dispersed, Silver was shown again, white fur completely charred, eyes rolling into the back of his head. Collapsing onto the ground. No breaths came from him.
Behind him stood a dark creature that greatly stood out amongst the flames. It was hedgehog shaped, but parts of it seemed to be incased in...ice? It stood over Silver’s body, grinning like a madman.
“Rob? Rob, wake up! Can you hear me?! Wake up!”
Rob O woke up at the sight of the horrid beast standing over his lover's body. His scream was lost in his throat. Eyes wide and fearful, trembling like a child. He was covered in sweat, his cheeks stained in tears. He looked about the room blindly.. the shadows made his heart nearly stop. It wasn't until he felt Silver's warmth, his scent, that he woke from his stupor. The look he gave Silver was both terrified and relieved. Throwing his arms around him.
That look had made Silver pause. Taking a moment to realize Rob O was holding onto him as tightly as possible. “H-hey...” Returning the embrace, gently rubbing the teal hedgehog’s back. That must have been quite the dream... “Are...you okay?” Silver asked kindly, pulling back to look Rob O in the eyes, brushing some of the tears away. They made his heart break a little. Tears did not suit Rob O, but everyone needed to cry at some point. Giving him a tiny kiss on the lips as the hedgehog king refused to let him go.
Rob O was shaking like a child waking from a horrible nightmare. Of course it was indeed a horrible nightmare...possibly visions. It had felt so real! But he wasn't a child. It would take a few more moments, and a simple kiss, to break the king out of his terror. Looking Silver in the eyes, the real living Silver. Touching his face, tracing the markings around his eyes, over his cheek, running a thumb over his lips. Still here, still breathing. He kissed him again, deeper then the last. He couldn't loose him..never.
Eyes widening slightly as Rob’s hands traced around his features. As if the white hedgehog would disappear at any moment. Not hesitating to kiss him back just as deep, assuring Rob O that he was indeed real and alive. “It’s okay...I’m right here...” Silver cooed, holding onto the teal hedgehog as much as the other wanted him too. He couldn’t help but be curious though... “What...did you dream about?”
"Stay with me, beloved. Just...do not leave me." He spoke in a slow, hushed tone. Cupping Silver's head, resting it on his shoulder. The youth could hear his heart beating, still rapid from the nightmare. Stroking his quills. He didn't want to think of the horrible images. He didn't even want to close his eyes. The vision of Silver, burned and charred to nothing still made his eyes sting. "I...I drempt ye hath left me.." Not a lie, but not a complete truth. He really just didn't want the white hedgehog to think he was slipping, or something along those lines.
“But...why would I leave you? I love you.” Silver gave him a small but assuring smile. On the inside though, he was torn. It was obvious there was more about the dream than Rob O was letting on. Sure, the teal king might be devastated if Silver did leave him (which he never wanted to), but the way Rob O was acting...it couldn’t just be because of that. His lover was actually scared, no terrified. People didn’t get like that because of someone leaving them, at least he thought they didn’t. “I must’ve had some reason, didn’t I?” Referring to himself like that was a bit odd but his curiosity along with worry was up to its peak.
Hearing Silver say such words made his heart ache. Closing his eyes, ears pinned back. It pained him to bring it up, but what was he really protecting Silver from by not telling him? Maybe to make it less real then it had felt? Possibly. Letting out a heavy sigh, sliding his fingers over the hedgehog's upper arm, down over his sides. Speaking softly, his tone shaky at times. "I saw... the end. Of everything. Of light, life, the world... and ye." Everything that held meaning, he had seen it stripped and destroyed. The sudden urge to take Silver again roared in his chest. It was a stupid feeling, but it nagged at him. He felt like something was just waiting to rip him from his arms.
It was barely noticeable, but Silver paled under his fur, emitting a tiny gasp. “Y-you did?” That was a bad sign. Rob wasn’t getting close to the truth, was he? Silver had to confirm his suspicions. “What...was it like, if you don’t mind me asking? W-who was there, besides us two?” The white hedgehog was dreading the answer yet needing it at the same time.
He sighed heavily, wanting to put this behind him. But the more Silver pushed, the more he images burrowed into his head. Nuzzling Silver for a moment before pulling away. It was time he showed the male. "Please...wait here a moment." He crawled out of bed, slipping his shoes on without socks. He had to get the book, to show the beast that plagued him, and threatened to take Silver away. "I will be but a moment.." With that he exited to go back to his room, thankfully his wife was fast asleep. Grabbing the book and returning to the room.
Completely unaware of the book’s existence, let alone what was written in the pages, Silver eyed it carefully as Rob O came back an sat down on the bed. His eyes widened as it was turned to the very page the king had looked at so many times before. There, right there on the page. It was there, the dark shadow that had been plaguing him for ages. “W-what...how...where...?” No words could be said to describe the sheer astonishment Silver was feeling.
The words on the pages were written in a language he had never seen before, yet Silver could read every bit of it. Tales of himself, a dark shadow, and a living flame that threatened to destroy all life. It was all there. He couldn’t believe it.
Rob O didn't know what to expect when he decided to reveal the book to the youth. For a moment he thought Silver would call him crazy, would call this ridiculous, that this was merely fairytales. But it was what had drawn him to the white hedgehog. Rob O himself could not read the writing, but by the illustrations themselves, he was to be a hero. Or so he viewed it. Images of Silver bathed in light, descending from the heavens. Though it would be read as something much more sinister. A harbringer of the Flame. Looking at Silver, those expressions seemed to show it all. He believed. He knew.
“L-let me see that!” Grasping the book, Silver read the pages over, but the words were all the same. Telling of his roll in the story. “This...this is...where did you get this?” His eyes began to sting, the fear and pressure all coming back at once. “Who was the one in your dream?”
He was beginning to regret ever showing him the book. But it was bound to be brought up at some point or another. Blinking when Silver tore it from his hands, his brow furrowing. He didn't much like this new attitude... But the look in Silver's eyes kept his mouth shut. "Tis an ancient book, it tells of stories of Mercia, the kings of old and of times to come. Twas said a powerful profit wrote these pages near the end of his days." He gently placed a hand on Silver's wrist, looking him in the eye. Looking down at the book, flipping a few pages to show the Beast cloaked in Ice and Darkness. "He...it took ye from me."
His looked turned from apologetic to horrified. The image sent chills down his spine. “Mephiles...” came the words, wrapping his arms around himself. “It really is him...” Unable to help it, Silver buried his face in his hands, letting out quiet sobs and shaking like a leaf. He was here. He’d come for him. “I don’t understand...” the white hedgehog muttered, looking up at Rob O, ignoring the tears streaming down his cheeks. “You have this book. You know what I am, what I hold. Why did you take me in despite that?” The words on the page had come naturally to Silver, he assumed everyone could read it, including Rob O. If the king had read the book, why take him in, show him love and compassion, or even more ironic, call him an angel?
'Mephiles?' It must be the name of the demonic creature that had... He didn't need to recall. Fearful when Silver began to close in around himself. His heart wept with the youth. Reaching out about to wrap his arms around Silver, till he questioned him. Quirking his head, looking deeply confused, his ears drooped. He had enough sense to look sheepish. "I... can nay read the words of old. The script is older then the kingdom. I hath gone by what I see, not what I hath read. Ye come from the heavens, to rid the world of this darkness." He touched Silver's cheek, the other hand griping over his chest.
That certainly explained a lot. The king’s take on the story was so opposite of the truth, Silver couldn’t help but laugh. It was not a gleeful laugh but one that sounded hurt...yet sinister. A sound Rob O had never heard before. Fresh tears trailed down Silver’s cheeks that he didn’t bother to wipe away. He just continued to laugh. “You’ve got it all wrong...” The laughs gradually turned into choked sobs, turning away from Rob’s touch, unable to look at him. He didn’t feel worthy anymore.

"Silver...please..." He chewed on his bottom lip, still wrapping his arms around him. He would refuse to let the youth go, even though he was starting to become scared of him. He needed to comfort him, needed to make him stop. Those words made his heart ache. The hedgehog was confused, scared. There was no reason he should! "I have got naught wrong, beloved." He wiped away the tears, still holding strong when Silver would struggle from his grip. One hand dropping to the book, "Look, my Angel.." He flipped through the pages, past the horrid images of death and destruction. This image would take up both pages. It was a hedgehog, judging by his regal clothing, and was royalty of some sort. His features were never blurred, either by age or purpose, in the arms of a white hedgehog. Behind them the land was beautiful again, Mercia's great castle in the background, the sky filled with stars. He whispered into Silver's ear, kissing the base. "Ye will save me." Though it wasn't clear whether the figure was alive... or not.
A beautiful image. Silver’s thrashing slowly died down as he stared at it, lightly beginning to trace it over with his fingers. If only, if only...Suddenly turning around and burying his face in Rob’s chest, holding in more sobs. “B-but...how can I save you...when I’m the one who’s supposed to bring this destruction?” There, he’d said it. The one thing Silver never wanted to mention to his lover and yet had to. For his own protection.
"What do ye mean?" His hands gently stroking Silver's back, his brow furrowing. Cupping the male's cheek, tilting his head upward to look him in the eye. He still didn't understand. How could he? Did Silver know something more about those pages then he would say? His expression darkened, he needed to know. Everything. "Speak."
With a sigh, Silver turned his head away from Rob’s gaze, moving away from his chest and turning back the pages in the book. “These pages talk about a living flame that began the chaos. Once the living flame and the darkness come together, they create a god-like entity to end everything.” The white hedgehog read straight from the book, turning back to Rob once he finished. “But that living flame was captured and put into a host’s body...in other words, me.” He paused, letting the words sink in. “The creature in your dream, Mephiles, is the darkness. He’s been hunting me for ages trying to get Iblis.” Killing everyone Silver knew and cared about in the process.
The teal hedgehog fell silent, pursing his lips together, looking away from Silver. It was going to take awhile before the whole thing would set in. Sure, he was smart enough, but he just couldn't believe it. He couldn't. Holding his hands in his head, shaking it slightly. Pulling his knees to his chest, head down. But it was the last part that reached him. "But...ye doth not wish to be such evil, such darkness. Why proclaim this will be done? Ye art not alone.."
“I...I’m not saying it will happen...but that’s what’s written in this book. And...he’s followed me everywhere. Even here, if you saw him.” Silver’s ears drooped sadly as Rob O curled into himself. Was he scared? “He...Mephiles has already killed everyone I know...my family, Blaze...I don’t want him coming after you too...” That was what scared him the most. “He’ll follow me everywhere until he gets what he wants...And do anything in the process.”
In a moment the hedgehog was on his feet, arms around Silver, holding him close to his chest. He didn't care, couldn't care. He had come this far, loved him too dearly. "I will not give ye up without a fight. Just as those before me. I must protect...what is mine." Kissing him hard, holding him close. No one had the right to take him away, gods or devils. He was all Silver had.
Taking a moment before kissing back, Silver’s tears were those of happiness now. As the pulled back to breathe from the harsh kiss, Silver had to look Rob O straight in the eyes. “You’re amazing...you know that? I...after everything I’ve done, everything I’ve said...and you...” Unable to finish the sentence, Silver held onto the teal hedge tightly and buried his face in his shoulder, muffled sobs filling the room. “I love you so much...”
"I am not amazing... I am as any, my love the same.." He cooed, stroking the male's back tentatively. And he believed it. It was how he was raised, how he grew up. No man was better than the other. He did for others, to others, what he expected in return. Silver would save him, and in return he would save the youth from his loneliness. Gently scooping the hedge into his arm, carrying him back into the bed. He knew now what Silver was, what he could be, and he silently vowed he would protect him from it all. It wasn't the boy's choice to be this way, and he would not hold it against him. This reinforced the trait he so loved about the youth. His honesty. He let everything out. "Rest, my beloved."
“Thank you...” Silver muttered, still clinging onto Rob O like a lost child. He would protect his lover with his own life, like the other would do for him. Closing his eyes, Silver tried to fall asleep as Rob O had instructed. Gradually his breathing began to slow down and relax and Silver finally managed to fall asleep, curled up in Rob’s lap, refusing to be away from him. This new experience, this conformation of feelings...he never wanted to lose it.
Rob O would remain awake most of the night. Leaning his head back against the headboard, eyes looking out into the darkness outside the window. There just so happened to be a shooting star streaking across the sky. Just then his heart ached, tears swelled in his eyes. He wished, deep and sincere of his feelings, that no matter what happened, he would love this boy as much now as ever. Be it time or space, nothing would change. Rubbing Silver's ear, suddenly parting his lips, singing softly to himself..
“Dance with me, under the pale moon light~ Just tell me everything’s alright~ Show me what is wrong, show me what is right~ Just break me open, hide away the pain~ They’re waking…they’re waking~ Do you hear the old world breaking~ Shifting the winds, taking hold of me, no letting go~ Waking from my sleep, wondering when they will take me away~
Dancing with me till mornings come~ Goodbye the setting sun, moon had come and gone, leaving me in the open again~ So tired and scared~ Play with me like you don’t care~ Break me, tend me, replay the screams into the air~ Hold me, mold me, break me down~ And never swear you love me, love me~ When the time comes will you show me the way~
Twist and turn, watching them burn to the ground~ Will you let me play outside today~ Dancing in the rain~ So tired and scared~ Play with me like you don’t care~ Break me, tend me, replay the screams into the air~ Hold me, mold me, break me down and never swear you love me, love me~ Drive away my san-ity~
Dreaming one last kiss, last and only wish~”
Halfway through the song, Silver’s ears twitched and his eyes opened slightly. What was that beautiful sound...? Looking up, seeing the music was coming from Rob O. He smiled, curling closer into his lap, listening to the words. How wonderful. He’d never heard the song before...taking it all in, eagerly listening for more... “You have a lovely singing voice...” the white hedgehog muttered as Rob O finished and became silent.
Rob O never paused, even as Silver broke in. A light blush on his cheeks. He never let anyone hear him before, and he was nearly tempted to stop. Following through with his song, ending it on a tender note. The silence that followed was the embarrassment. It wasn't very male like was it? Looking down at Silver, rubbing his ear between his fingers.
Chuckling, Silver sat up in Rob’s lap and leaned against his chest, listening to the hedgehog king’s heartbeat. Quite fast for so late at night. “You don’t have to be embarrassed. It was beautiful.” He ended with pecking Rob on the cheek, adding a tiny lick there for encouragement. “You should sing more often.” Grinning slightly.
He swallowed thickly, looking away for a moment to think over what Silver had just said. If anyone was going to hear him sing it would only be him. Cupping the male's cheek, nuzzling him lightly. "Ye should sleep." Despite his words he turned his head, planting a tender kiss on his lips. Wrapping his arm around his waist, purring into his lips.
Moaning into the kiss, Silver returned it after a few seconds, still a little drowsy from his sleep. The kiss was certainly an effective way to wake him up. Silver soon began to grow bold, snaking his tongue to the entrance to the other hedgehog’s mouth. Trailing along his lips and silently asking for entrance. He was mimicking what Rob O had done before, hopefully to return the favor.

Catching his breath, Silver managed to sit up a little bit by leaning on his elbows. Watching Rob O work the last bit down there before he sat up himself. The white hedgehog stared into his eyes, utterly mesmerized by them. He could barely think straight, unconsciously licking his lips. “S-sorry...about that...” It couldn’t have been helped though.
"Too much for ye, huh?" The teal king jested, leaning down, resting his head on Silver's stomach. His arms looping around the younger hedgehog's waist. It was plenty a treat to just have Silver gasping and panting in his arms. Figuring the other male would be too tired for anything more he made himself comfortable.
Silver laughed nervously. “Just a little, yeah...” With as much experience he had, Rob O could easily overwhelm the white hedgehog. It was no secret, at least between the two lovers. Silver let out a content sigh as the other settled himself, petting behind the teal ears. “But I enjoyed every second of it,” he cooed into said ear, nipping at it slightly.
Rob O purred softly, growing only louder as Silver nipped away. His ear twitched and jerked playfully as the hedgehog continued to taunt him. Rubbing his muzzle against Silver's belly, murring. "Silver.." Continuing to tease those sensitive ears would stir that need in his gut, but finding himself too tired to dominate. Uncharacteristically submissive, burying his face in that soft chest fuzz.
With another soft chuckle, Silver released the ear, giving it a farewell lick. “Now look who’s tired...” It was a half-truth, they were both extremely tired. Looking out the window, Silver noted that the sun would be up soon. He yawned. “We should both probably get some sleep...” he mumbled, eyes drooping, his earlier release having drained him of his energy. His elbows gave out and he landed on his back again, pulling Rob O closer to him, nuzzling into his cheek. “Stay with me...?”
He was too tired to complain or argue, easily slipping right beside Silver. Cheek against cheek, arms wrapped around the white hedgehog protectively. If anyone had caught this sight it would be impossible to hide the truth. Sleep sounded really good at this point. Eyes slipping closed, he didn't think he could get up even if he wanted to. Their love making and the stress of Silver's confession had drained them both. "Forever." Was his soft, solid answer.
“Mmm...” That was all it took for the warm feeling to settle into Silver’s chest, curling up happily in Rob’s embrace. He wouldn’t let him go until morning...and even then he might have some trouble. “Good night then...” he purred softly, giving Rob’s neck one last lick before settling down, slowly drifting off into a dreamless sleep. Mumbling a few incoherent things now and then but was otherwise quiet. Nothing more needed to be said.
That night they would sleep soundly, not a soul disturbing them for the time being. But it just so happened that the Guard Captain would walk past the door, having heard the odd sounds he waited for them to die down before popping his head inside... and walking right out... Days later Rob O was once more making his rounds about the castle, for the last several nights he was forced to sleep with his wife... but he always shared Silver's company before then. And he had never been happier.
He may have had the feeling that he was being watched, however...a dark shadow loomed behind him, trailing and watching his every move. Gathering information. This foolish king thought he could save Silver from the shadows. How amusing.
Despite the guard captain having seen them together, he had not uttered a word about it. Silver noticed that he seemed to be more...cautious around the white hedgehog lately though. He wondered what that was all about but continued his training. If it got to be a problem, then he’d question it.
Years as a spy and a tracker had honed the king's skill well enough to know when something was amiss. Every step he took he could have sworn something was walking along with him... Pausing to look over his shoulder every now and then. His ears pinned back, listening out for the slightest disturbance. Slipping deeper into the winding natural maze of the gardens. The feline captain was truly only curious as to why the King would favor a child then his beautiful wife. But his loyalties were with Rob O so he made no talk of it. Though he most say there would be many who would be jealous of Silver's current...'position'.
Rob O would find Silver practicing in the gardens. Weapons weren’t really his thing, he’d much prefer to use either his fists or his psychokinesis. Since he couldn’t really use the second option in front of people, his fists would do. But the captain insisted that Silver learn how to use a weapon. Hand-to-hand combat wouldn’t work all the time. Panting and gently putting his wooden sword down to rest, he was not yet ready to use a real sword. Once his king came into view, Silver immediately brightened. “Making rounds?” He asked, watching him come closer He was unable to sense the darkness following the teal hedge, not at all as experienced as Rob when it came to that sort of thing. Though he did feel a burning in his chest...
"How fairs?" He spoke up, always wearing a wide smile in the presence of the youth. There was just something about him that always brightened his mood. That, and Silver always did look so cute when he worked up a sweat. Nodding when the white hedge spoke up. "Aye, tis a bright and peaceful day. As oft." Rob stopped in his tracks, rubbing the back of his neck. Something felt off, he raised a brow at the two of them. The cat stepped up, his own natural instinct made him edgy. His long ears twitching, baring his teeth before the feeling passed. There was something him and the king seemed to share.
“Doing alright, I guess...” He blinked as he sensed the tension between the king and the captain. Looking confused as the captain stepped down, they just seemed to stare at each other. “Something wrong?” He asked the both of them, question meant to be answered by either. What was up with the feline today anyway? Everyone just seemed to be off.
He trusted the captain with his life, and that look the cat gave him told him everything. There was never a reason for both of them to be on edge. Something was very wrong. Closing the distance between them quickly. "We should move... perhaps ye wouldst care to enjoy some lunch?" He needed a reason to get them inside, out of the open.
The burning feeling was getting worse but not enough to hinder him. Silver was still a little confused but stood up and nodded anyway. “Uh, sur-” He stopped, breath catching in his throat. There, he could sense it now. It was close, so close...Suddenly, Rob’s offer didn’t sound so bad. “Good idea.” They all needed to get to safety, if there was such a thing. He was hoping it was just his paranoia, but with Rob and the captain acting up to...that option was looking less and less likely.
Rob O was even tempted to pick up Silver and carry him. The sudden pained look in the youth's eyes meant something was wrong. Deciding to wait in the back as he ushered his friend and lover inside. But the shadow was always with them. It's cold chill in the air, haunting them.
It was then he decided to strike. Even in the castle, the people inside had shadows. Rob O would feel a hand grab onto his left ankle, the hand forcefully pulling down. The touch burned through the teal hedgehog’s boots, leaving a nasty mark, the pulling getting more severe. At Rob’s surprised yell, Silver turned, paling at the sight and going over to his lover, pulling just as hard away from the shadows. A sinister laugh filled the air and dark threads materialized from the ground, acting like rope and wrapping themselves around Rob’s torso and holding his arms in place. The threads then began to pull as well, the king falling behind...and into the shadows. “No, Rob! Rob!”
It didn't come as a real surprise, but the sheer fear the grip around his ankle induced nearly made the king's heart stop. There was something following them, but he never expected it to be living shadows! His scream came from the burns that now encircled his ankle. Looking up at them horrified, reaching out to both Silver and the captain. Both of whom tried diligently to free their friend, their king. The look of terror in the teal hedgehog's eyes would haunt the youth for a time to come. Vanishing into the darkness.
Arm still out, hoping somehow to cling to the one who was gone, Silver’s eyes grew blank, the familiar sting of tears threatening to show itself. It had happened so fast...one minute he was there and the next...his lover was gone. Silver sunk down to his knees, arm continuing to outstretch before coming to the floor in a fist. “No...!” This couldn’t be happening, it just couldn’t!
The cat was just as shocked, though perhaps it was the fact he wasn't teal's lover that he lacked in the show of tears. His face contorted into one of confusion. What just happened? Kneeling beside Silver, placing a hand on his shoulder. "What...what was that?!" Obviously he would know..
“I-it...he...” The tears came free and Silver buried his face in his hands, his screams of refusal muffled. The white hedgehog was in hysterics, unable to talk or think straight, just completely broken. “Not another one, not Rob...no, please, no...!”
Rob O woke, his body chilled, in a world he never seen before or knew. The teal hedge would find himself still tied by the shadowy ropes, some of them now around his legs and burning ankles. Others had coiled around his throat, threatening to choke him at any moment, and one covering his mouth. “Comfy?” A voice suddenly asked and a figure suddenly materializing in front of him.
"Mmnh.." Stirring from his unconscious state, Rob O almost wish he hadn't. His eyes wide, his lime green eyes glistened in fear. The beast in front of him was none other then the monster that plagued his dreams and littered the pages of his book. The monster that would try to claim Silver. The same that killed everything the boy had held dear. Struggling with the bonds, tears in his eyes. Muttering violent words against his gag.
Laughter came from said beast, echoing throughout the darkness. He could very well guess what Rob O was saying underneath the gag. Going over, Mephiles cupped the hedgehog’s chin in his hand, staring straight into his eyes and soul. “You are not very impressive for a king. I honestly can’t see what Silver sees in you.” A shrug. “No matter though. What does matter is that you are tying to take something that belongs to no one but me, and it is unwise to steal from me. For that, you must pay the price, dear Rob...” Mephiles grinned evilly, two rows of sharp teeth fully showing themselves. Since he had trailed the teal hedgehog for days, he knew everything about him. Such an easy capture. His grip on Rob’s chin tightened as he drew the captured hedge closer, licking at his cheeks and lapping up the salty tears. “Mmm...”
Rob O felt the chill the creature gave off, it was frightening, intimidating. He wanted to put as much distance between himself and the beast as possible, but that wasn’t going to happen. Closing his eyes, feeling violated when Mephiles drew in closer. Shuddering in disgust as that cold tongue flicked over his cheek. It felt so cold it burned. A knot formed in his stomach, growling deep in his throat.
The growling was like music to the shadow. Letting out his own noise, a twisted purr, licks getting more rough and sharp claws moving down to his neck. The claws lightly grazed over the sensitive neck but had enough force to leave tiny scratches, trickles of blood flowing down. Mephiles moved his mouth away from Rob’s cheeks and down to his chin, licking down there and pushing past the gag to lick around his lips. Soon he moved on, aiming to taste the entire face while his hands ravished Rob’s neck.
The hedgehog flinched from the touch. Shuddering under those wicked icy claws, his blood flowing freely. Sputtering, jerking his head way from the devilish creature and causing more damage to be done to his neck and face. This was wrong, in so many ways. Redoubling his efforts to free himself. He wouldn't be broken so easily.
“Really now?” Mephiles answered to Rob’s struggling, as if reading his mind. Without hesitation, Mephiles shot forward, biting down hard at teal’s neck, ears twitching at the noise his captive made. He moved his teeth to kneed into the soft flesh, tasting the blood and lapping it all up. All while moving his hands to slide behind Rob O, grasping the binds around his neck and pulling tighter, cutting off the captured hedgehog’s air supply. Grinning, teeth covered in Rob’s blood, he wouldn’t let up his hold soon...maybe just before the loss of consciousness. Mephiles wanted his captive to be awake for what he had planned.
He screamed into his gag. His body writhing in pain and disgust. The flesh of his neck easily giving way under those dagger like teeth. His windpipe steadily becoming crushed under those powerful jaws. His eyes wide, tears rolling down his cheeks. Gasping for air, being choked off by two means, his vision beginning to go black. He could taste his own blood build in his mouth. If he didn't suffocate then he'd drown in his own life fluids.
The choking sounds caught his attention. He figured that was enough for now, biting down harder for a split second, nearly tearing the flesh right off, before releasing Rob’s neck, also releasing his hold on the binds. As he watched the teal hedgehog try to cough up blood from the gag, Mephiles looped a finger around it, pulling it down and it settled loosely around Rob’s collar bone. He could cough up what was clogging his throat much easier now, Mephiles watching him and licking his lips. “Better?” He cooed.
He was going to be sick, what blood he couldn't cough up he was forced to swallow. It settled in his stomach and made him want to hurl. Glaring at Mephiles, trying to swallow again, which only sent waves of pain down his spine. Talking wasn't even an option! If he was sure of anything, it was his voice box had been crushed or injured. Breathing was a needed pain. But it wouldn't break him, growling, though it sounded bubbly in his throat.
----------------------------------------
A gasp, Silver looked up from his curled up position, eyes red and face wet with tears. This feeling...a feeling of dread. Something terrible had happened. Rob O was in pain... He could almost feel it... “Oh no...” he choked, tears coming back.

He moved through the shadows like a serpent made of shadows. His essence was overpowering as ever, Silver would be able to sense Mephiles before actually seeing him. But by then it would be too late. Tendrils of pure shadows, cold as death, looped around his wrist and ankles. His head rising from the depths of Silver's shadow, his smile a gleaming set of ivory and clear shards. Pulling him right through his own shadow, and right out from under Tobby's gaze.
Rob O would be strung up by ropes of shadows. His clothing gone, his wounds open and still bleeding. It was meant to be the first thing Silver would see when being dragged into Mephiles' world. A dying Rob O’ the Hedge.
A surprised yelp was all Silver managed to say before he was dragged into his shadow, Tobby’s horrified expression clear. Crying out when he landed, his hands and feet were bound, waiting a few moments before opening his eyes and struggling onto his knees. Mephiles got him. He was too careless...All thought vanished except horror and worry as the sight that “greeted” him. His lover was... “Rob! Rob! Talk to me! Please open your eyes!” Nothing from the teal king. Silver’s sobs rang out through the shadows, unable to stand seeing his lover in such a state.
Mephiles circled the two, his feet not even touching the ground. This was his world, and it was his. On a whim he had the binds around the teal's wrist and ankles tighten. The hedgehog winced, only slightly, to show he was still alive. At once his arms looped around Rob O's chest, his claws dragging across the male's, opening small gashes. "He was so much fun to play with... He screamed your name, did you know that? He begged for it.." His voice was almost tender, loving, bringing his hand to his mouth, his crystal like tongue dragging over the tips of his 'fingers'. "But I'm sure you know just how good he is. Thanks for sharing." Just as he appeared around Rob, his arms were around the white hedgehog, his claws dug into his soft fur. "Look what's you've done now... another one lost." Those sobs, the pain, it fed him, brought him closer to an aroused state.
“No...no, you didn’t...” The slight change in expression from Rob O brought some sort of comfort. As least he was alive...for now. But after hearing what happened...The white hedgehog slumped, his head hanging, body trembling. “You’re sick...” Silver growled, lifting is head only slightly, actually glaring at the demon. “Let him go...I’ll do whatever you want, just please let him go...”
"Let him go? Well that wouldn't be much fun now would it? I wasn't able to share in the jobs I experienced with the others, till now." He referred to Silver's parents and Blaze. They all had shared...similar fates. "Won't you return the favor?" He cupped Silver's chin, his empty eyes staring into the youth's, threatening to drown him in the choking evil. "I don't have to bargain, I'll get what I want, you can't escape." His laughter rung through the dark cavern. What Silver wouldn't see were tendrils of darkness rising from the ground like writhing worms. Curling themselves around his arms and legs. Curling around his body, looping around his neck and curled up to his lips. He would have him in a way he hadn't yet shared with the others..
“Y-you...!” Pure hate mixed with fear shone through Silver’s eyes, glaring hard at Mephiles. The mention of his parents and best friend felt like a stab to the heart, and it was already aching enough seeing Rob O in the state he was in. Unfortunately, Silver knew the creature was right. There was nothing he could do. It was then he felt the dark ropes snake around him, gasping as they clenched tightly at whatever body part they had. Silver thrashed in discomfort but the yell was lost as his mouth was covered. He was nearly choked as the last one came around his neck, and it burned. Completely immobilized in a matter of seconds, Silver could do nothing but whimper pathetically.
"I'm going to dig and claw my way through you. Burn and sear my way into your heart, I'll claim my prize." He cupped his hand under Silver's chin, tilting his head up and forcing him to look him in his blood red eyes. He smiled, cruel and showing off rows of jagged teeth, some still glistened with Rob O's blood. The binds around his neck would loosen, only to steadily push their way down his throat, though the tendrils would narrow, allowing him to breath, but not without a painful surprise. Filling his chest with a cold chill, Silver could actually feel Mephiles' graze his heart. But he wouldn't rip the flame from him just yet. "Give in...there's nothing worth fighting for..." He caressed the hedgehog's neck tenderly, dragging his sharp claws across his chest. Blood flowing freely from the open gashes.
The hold on Rob O's hands and ankles loosened, even around his neck. He was sent tumbling to the ground in a broken heap. With Mephiles' full attention on Silver, the half conscious hedgehog reached out, touching Silver's ankle. "...noo.."
"Sweet flames, be mine." Mephiles cooed, the darkness like a hook, sunk into the Living Flame within the youth's heart. At once it pulled back, ripping what he desired from the boy without mercy. The flame burst into life, growing stronger, wider, it's flames all consuming. The darkness around them shifting, expanding, unable to hold the massive beast that was Iblis. Now the trio was overlooking the horizon, the castle in the distance, and the fiery demon consuming all it vicious flames and smoldering chaos. Mephiles tilted his head back, his laughter echoing in the night. "Finally! The time has come!" He spread his arms, before him formed the seven chaos emeralds. They circled around him, and with them he lifted into the sky to meet his fate.
It was inevitable, and the feeling of Mephiles pulling out the flame from his very body hurt far worse than anything the demon had done so far. With a horrid scream, the flame was released and the dark ropes surrounding Silver disappeared. He collapsed onto his side, clutching his chest where his heart was and blood nearly flowing out of his mouth. He coughed weakly, eyes blank as he stared at the chaos. He had failed. He had failed everyone. “This....no....”
A weak groan escaped the hedgehog's lips. Curling up on himself. He was more blood than fur at this point. He only stirred when he heard Silver's voice. Himself too weak to form words. His back was to the chaos, thankfully he wouldn't have to watch as his home, his land was consumed by flames. His prone body at the feet of the white hedgehog. Flames rising into the sky, a harsh laughter, a flash of light followed as Mephiles and Iblis came together and formed the terrible God, Solaris. It's chaotic form filling the sky, beginning to tear through the world. And raining from the sky came the empty, dull chaos emeralds.
Pushing himself up, Silver stared at the god, terror evident in his broken eyes. “Solaris....” He’d only heard stories about it. Another destructive creature like Chaos, who was supposedly inside the Master Emerald. But made up of two parts: flame and shadow. Once they came together, destruction rained down. Silver was cursed to carry the Flames of Disaster as a child and had kept that promise to his parents ever since...until now. He weakly stared at the Chaos Emeralds as they came down, dulled to gray. Nothing could be done anymore.
Turning around, he gasped at the sight of his lover. Silver gathered all the strength he had left and crawled over to him, ignoring the pain that shot through his body. He didn’t matter, only Rob did. “Rob...” Silver whimpered, gathering the once teal hedgehog in his arms. “Can you hear me...?”
He trembled in his arms, everything hurt. Opening his eyes, he looked up at Silver as tears blurred his vision. His breathing was ragged, choking and blood bubbling in his throat. The light of the God's glory lit up the sky. Rob O didn't have the good grace to look back to see the utter chaos and destruction behind them. All he could see was that Silver's fur was glowing, outlined by light. He smiled at him before looking to the sky. The night sky nearly completely lit up by Solaris. It was just like the story book. A new wave of tears rolled down his eyes, he felt warm, at ease. "My angel... ye hath taken me to heaven..." The emeralds around them reacting to the tenderness, the love and pure innocence that surrounded them.
His lover’s words...were like daggers to his very heart. “No...” Silver slowly shook his head, refusing to look away, his own tears streaming down his cheeks. “Don’t go Rob, don’t leave me...I don’t want you to go to heaven yet, I want you to stay here!” He hung his head, sobbing quietly, tears dripping onto Rob’s battered body. “You...promised you wouldn’t leave me...” Talking about broken promises felt almost ironic, as if he could talk, but just thinking about Rob O leaving him...The Chaos Emeralds glowed brighter as their emotions grew, their color slowly returning.
He smiled, if he had the strength he would have reached up to brush the tears from the hedgehog's eyes. They didn't suit him. Sorrow didn't suit him. His lids were growing heavy, his breathing slowing. The color in his eyes began to dull, the vibrant hue of his lime green eyes looked nearly brown in the twisted light and reflection of drying blood. The smile he wore was the same as ever, lighthearted, accepting. "Angels should never cry.." Leaning into Silver's chest, not knowing the blood on Silver's chest was the others and not his. The world was red to him no matter. Ears pinning back, looking as if he slipped into a peaceful sleep.
Silver gasped as Rob O lost consciousness, immediately putting two of his fingers up to his scarred neck, abeit gently, looking for a pulse. He almost sighed in relief. It was there. Faint, but there. And yet Rob O felt so cold...Panic rising, Silver looked over at the now revitalized Chaos Emeralds, coming to only one decision. “If I don’t do it, we’re dead...if I do, we have a fifty-fifty chance...” That was that, then. Wincing as the destruction came closer to them, Silver held out his hand towards the seven gems. He used what was left of his strength, and even some of his life energy, to begin pulling the emeralds closer, his normal blue glow dulled to a vast amount.. “Here goes absolutely nothing...” Closing his eyes and clutching Rob O as tightly as possible in both of their conditions, Silver yelled out two words he had only used once. “Chaos Control!”
The two lovers vanished in a brilliant flash of white light.
