OOC : Just something new for the miscellaneous forum. 'Me Voilà' is also French for 'here I am'. Anything above R will be edited out.
Can change from private to open if anyone is up to joining as well. Basic Summary : With a year passing and not a single trace of him, you really would believe that Shadow the Hedgehog being dead was true; but it’s not. Having gone through with the opening to fake his death, he embraced the chance to change his identity and truly put the past behind him. Now living in a small town up north with a new life, what this old hedgehog doesn’t expect is to have old friends – and enemies – come back. --- The night was as near perfect as it could get. It was slightly cooler than normal, not so abnormal due to his location, maybe, but the sky was clear of clouds and left the atmosphere open for viewing. Just what he needed. The knob clicked a few more times under his hand, changing the display under his one eye. There was a few seconds on that before some more clicking, which he drew back from quickly before coming down again, scribbling something down hastily. Finished, he raised his head. Just some more of what he had seen not too long ago. Heaving a sigh, he stepped away from the telescope completely, dropping the clipboard he had been jotting on into the grass by his feet. For such a well spent evening, he felt...off. It wasn’t a feeling he was coming to like, and that was mainly because he shouldn’t have been feeling off. He had absolutely no reason to, and what made it all worse was that it wasn’t all that uncommon. He had things moving along peacefully, especially since winter was coming in. He didn’t need a high food supply to do well, but there were other supplies that were needed, all of which he owned. If his situation was so peachy, then why wasn’t he? The hedgehog ungraciously sat down on his tail, not too bothered by the cold dew on the grass. He had probably stayed out long enough, but he didn’t quite feel like heading back just yet. Sleep would do him good, but... Ugh. He was aware that he had something to feel off about. He was just much too stubborn to admit it to himself, and so that thought was stuck nagging at him in the back of his head, held back by everything he had worked for until now. It was and wouldn’t be for nothing, but the strong fact that it had been an entire year already made everything so hard not to think about. He did his best to never let it get to him. Easier said than done, he thought. Weary now, he rubbed at his eyes. He was still unused to the feeling of the contacts, which didn’t even do all that good. Since they were yellow, they gave his eyes a strange orange colour. The small, square glasses on his face didn’t help. They were just another distraction, another big blotch on his face, especially when they got smudgy or scratched. Hell, most of the changes he had made were distracting and uncomfortable. He would have thought even after a year he would be accustomed to it, but no, only slightly. He hadn’t done much else; what could he? To help cover most of the fur on his chest he wore a scarf that was a deep yellow, which hung loose around him. It helped to keep his neck warm, but it did get irritating at times. Then there was all the black dye he had used to cover up his natural, red stripes. He could still sometimes spot the old colour seeping back through, and that was always something else to worry about. His inhibitor rings were still forced on and in place, but he had slipped on a different, older pair of gloves to help them looked more like bracelets or something along those lines. Finally, and probably the worst one of all – The gel. His quills were so very hard to keep track of, and he had eventually given up and settled with only forcing his two bottom ones down, giving his head a weird star shape. It didn’t even work all that well – use enough liquid and bam! His quills were all up and counted for again. And there was still that bothering, off feeling... With a second sigh, he laid back into the grass, rolling to his side. Never would he have guessed that changing his identity would be so... ...out there. |

He was right to feel "off." In a moment, he'd realize just how hard it was to escape his past. A figure part of it would end up finding him, or would Shadow lead himself to it? The sudden surge of Chaos energy would have been hard to ignore. A jolt of it indicated that someone had just performed Chaos Control nearby. If they were looking for anyone, standing still probably wasn't the best way to go. Whoever it was didn't appear to know what happened to him, otherwise they might have appeared closer. Though, Shadow wouldn't be able to see who it was from this distance, he'd be able to make out the bright flash that accompanied Chaos Control. It was his own decision whether or not to see what was going on. If Sonic was lucky at all, he'd make that decision. A lot has happened since Shadow's disappearance. A lot mourned the death of what was certainly the Ultimate Lifeform. G.U.N. had relied a lot on his assistance, and New Mobotropolis probably wouldn't have minded having him around either. About six months later Snively and Regina launched an all out attack against both parties. Snively was a much more formidable foe than his now insane uncle. But six more months were they able to fight and hold them off, and then ... Unable to hold himself up, Sonic collapsed onto the ground, panting roughly. A hand held pressed against his side where blood seeped between his fingers and through his glove, ruining it. Ears folded, eyes were beginning to get harder and harder to focus ... |

He couldn't deny that he had begun to doze off. The air and grass was cool enough to put him in a bit of a lull, and he didn't quite feel up to lugging all of his possessions back into town just yet. Telescopes weren't light, although it weren't as if he couldn't carry it. Perhaps he wouldn't have minded so much had this been more of a regular night, which it should have been. This would probably end up being the worst of his troubles fairly soon. Maybe if he had left when he was first supposed to, then maybe he wouldn't have been startled awake by his senses going wild not too much later. If he had felt off before, he now felt worse. Last he had felt energy like that was quite some time ago. It wasn't too hard to avoid. Not many could pull off any Chaos tricks, and whatever he did feel was typically pretty natural in the environment. He was still capable, but again, that was all avoided. Normal hedgehogs couldn't do what he could do. ...but he wasn't normal. Far from it. He couldn't possibly avoid what his senses were screaming at him. Sitting up quickly, he gripped at his head for a moment. What had once been a familiar tingle was now an aching shock to the head. Now alert and awake (and maybe wondering why he had been dozing in the first place), he whipped his head in the direction the signal had come from. He only looked in time to see a small silhouette collapse, the previous flash gone. Not good. His head demanded he left right then and there and not associate himself with anymore Chaos business. Instead, his body climbed to his feet and he jogged over. If he was lucky, it wouldn’t be anything terribly serious. Was he ever wrong. Kneeling, it only took a first glance at the fur colour and shape to tell him who it was. He wished he hadn’t, but a year wasn’t nearly enough to forget faces like that. Again, he wanted to leave, but on a second look had him realizing that the hedgehog was injured. He wasn’t near cruel enough to leave him there in that condition. Not entirely sure where to begin, he gently pulled at the fingers covering what was easily his wound to see how bad the damage was. He didn’t know what happened or how it had happened…probably wasn’t any of his business, either. What mattered now, however, was that he take care of what there was and then be on with his ‘life’. |

For the lives of many others came to an abrupt end. As the surroundings grew quiet compared to the warzone he barely escaped from, almost brought him a sense of peace. His eyes closed as he struggled to catch his breath, chest rising irregularly at a fast pace. His hand kept tight by his side, unsure of how serious the injury, but he knew he was losing blood fast. He could feel it. His body was weak, but it was no surprise considering the energy he put forth to save as many as he could. He had lost count as to how many times he used Chaos Control to get others to safety. It was the fastest way. The city was surrounded and running away on foot was a near death sentence. Sonic was aiming to save a small rabbit visiting in from out of town. Her name was Cream, he believed; Tails hung around her a lot. He thought he had hold of her but he made a mistake because she wasn't here either. He was shot during that frantic Chaos Control and barely got himself here, a seemingly random location his mind thought up on impulse. He wasn't sure who it was that found him, but he could make out the foot steps nearby. He made an attempt to look up but by then his eye sight was far too blury. Exhausted, Sonic passed out while Shadow started to observe his injury. Charred skin singed through flesh, a good sized hole that may have required stitches. It wasn't from an average gun. There was no bullet. It appeared to be some kind of ray that left no other evidence behind aside from some form of radiation that was bad enough to burn a subject critically. So, he had been injured badly and then dropped on him. How ridiculous could fate get? He was curious in the way that he wondered what could have caused this. It was true that Sonic was a huge adventure-seeker, but it was pretty hard to find him in a condition like this. Although the news was big and may have traveled fast, he hadn't heard of it just yet. His small town was awfully secluded, and even if it had come, he wouldn't have known. He didn't look into it. What had concerned him once now didn't, and he wasn't going to try and push that. Looked as if it wanted to push him, though. Shadow knew enough about weapons to see that it wasn't done by a regular, bullet-shooting gun. He couldn't pinpoint exactly what had caused it, but it took no genius to see that the damage done would take some time - and maybe a good doctor - to fix. He couldn't begin fix it if he didn't hurry and get him back, though, and he didn't have the time to run. Not without his hover skates. He'd have to... Sigh. There went his work and a time-breaking record of not using Chaos Control for over at least two months. He'd pick up the telescope later, if he could. Silently thankful that he did happen to pass out before recognizing his own face (the resemblance was still very clear), Shadow finished his small examination before scooping up the hedgehog's shoulders. Carefully, he pulled his back to meet his chest, dragging the burden a few hobbles back while supporting most if not all of his weight. He had probably gotten just a little rusty in his strength without much fighting over the past year... Standing awkwardly and bent over Sonic, he closed his eyes. It took no time for him to call back on the familiar feeling, and with a mumble of the two secret words, both would disappear in a second flash of Chaos Control. |

After returning back to his place, and then carrying Sonic to the hospital, he'd immediately be hit with that dry, sterile smell that just seemed so... stale. Even in Shadow's efforts not to draw attention to himself, Sonic most definitely would. The blue hedgehog was known around the world aside from exceptional, more remote places. And though Shadow did well in secluding himself, the hospital found closer to the city weren't as ignorant to the happenings going on around the rest of the world. Still unconscious when he was brought in, faces turned towards the two. The receptionist at the desk immediately got on the ball and had nurses coming out with a gurney. There were only a few mobians in the waiting room, sitting soundlessly as the obviously more critical blue hedgehog was taken in first. Two lemurs gestured for Shadow to lay him down while they quickly wheeled him into the back, out of sight. The hall was separated by two swinging doors that allowed easy access through them. The lady at the desk, a somewhat pudgey beaver, looked towards Shadow sympathetically as she started to get paperwork ready for him to sign for him, and help give the doctor better information on what happened to him once they had Sonic stabilized. What Shadow might also notice in the seemingly simple waiting room was a key opening another door to the past he tried so hard to leave behind. News on what his disappearance had led to. It was G.U.N. that was first infiltrated and not too long after Shadow's supposed demise. The small television in the corner of the room overlooking a table full of magazines no one bothered to read, turned their attention in shock when an anchorman came on the screen, informing about Station Square, and its destruction. It was too soon for a report to be made on New Mobotropolis yet. Edited by Sonic the Hedgehog, Oct 8 2009, 08:10 PM.

With the risk of being caught if he teleported straight into the hospital, Shadow had been clever enough to warp back into the comfort of his own home. Even though it was safe going, he had to sprint to the hospital to make up for what time he could have saved. Before that, he had to fix Sonic more comfortably so he could even run properly in the first place. Just scooping him up made the burden too heavy, so he pulled him up on to his back before departing for his new destination. He didn't like this. Not one bit. If having Sonic injured was bad enough in itself, having to visit the hospital with him in tow made it that much worse. No good could be up if this was what was happening outside of his town, and having the hero of Mobius injured as he would would only cause more worry around the people he passed. The looks he received were enough to put some tension on his shoulders, but he did his best to look as casual as he could while laying the hedgehog down for the nurses to wheel away. He stood where he was for a few extra moments, combing a hand back over his top quill. There was a small debate in his head to leave, but there was already too much tension on him to do that with any success. He had to wait, even if it was just a bit longer...there was no backing out of his act now. Ignoring the stares and any sort of sympathetic glances he may have received, Shadow stepped up to the front desk. There wasn't much information to give other than the fact that Sonic had come by him in the condition he was currently being treated for. If she wanted to ask any other questions, he would do his best to think of any possible answers. If only someone else had come by him, or Sonic had been lucky enough to warp somewhere better than in his care. Waiting to complete any forms and whatnot, he turned his head in the direction of the television. An important news cast, no doubt. The news hit his ears like a falling weight. While the shock of the waiting room may have been great, his was even greater. These citizens were more informed than he was. Much more. Not once had he heard even a whisper of news from Station Square or any other major cities. It had been in his greatest care to avoid that. Now... Shadow had to turn his head away, ears now pinned to his head and bottom lip being chewed out on. Surely his disappearance alone couldn’t be the cause of this whole mess, could it? |

The older beaver pushed her glasses up on her face, eyes squinting behind them as she focused in the hedgehog in front of her. Seemed vaguely familiar, but probably because he still looked just a tad like Sonic. The name tag on her white collared shirt read "Phillis" as she started asking questions, and having Shadow sign every little bit on a form she read out to him. The most important one was how Sonic got in the condition he was in. Seeing as how Shadow didn't know much about that, she moved on, asking more personal questions about his age, where he's from, etc.. Also, if whether or not he had insurance and if Shadow would be able to cover the costs. Sonic showed zero dollars and zero change in his bank account. She gave him a moment when he seemed a bit disturbed by the television broadcast. She too felt sympathy for everyone involved as the rest of the mobians waiting watched with frowns on their faces. "Have a seat, dearie." Gestured Phillis, getting up briefly to hand the forums over to a nurse. It'd be roughly an hour and a half before Shadow found out anything about Sonic, if he intended on waiting around. Assuming he had, the doctor, a tall goose, came out to greet Shadow. He gestured for him to follow him into the back to discuss matters more privately. Once he got him out into the hall, he smiled reassuringly. "Your friend is going to be okay. Seems he's more exhausted than anything. The injury he sustained on his side did require stitches, and he'll need to be on antibiotics for at least a week to make sure he doesn't develop any kind of infection. We can keep him overnight, or..." The doctor wasn't sure how close this guy was to Sonic. He had problems trying to notify his family back in New Mobotropolis. But the other option was for Shadow to take him home with him today. "He should be waking up from the anesthetic very shortly." |

This wasn’t looking hopeful. What had been at first a fairly peaceful night had turned into one complete disaster. It wasn’t as if the action were drawing itself to him just yet, but it sure felt like it would at this rate. Luckily for him, everything was still moderately calm. What he needed last was a blast from some android or more familiar faces showing up and dragging along their trouble with them. What was the point of trying to get away if it just followed him everywhere? He wasn’t about to let go of his act; perhaps it would all blow over. This wasn’t his fight anymore, and he had no intentions of butting in again. When bombarded with questions, he did do his best to answer them accurately, albeit in a strained sort of way. There was still that troubled part of him that came with the realization of a whole city being destroyed in his absence. When it came to insurance and money in the matter, he felt his mood drop further. He had money, but that didn’t mean it was near enough. Insurance? He avoided most injuries and healed well enough on his own, so… He stood a moment longer at the desk, unsure of whether to stay or head out. He trusted the doctors to be taking good care of Sonic, but there was a part of him that was curious to find out what was happening. He would have to play it low, keep it casual and put on a face…all a lot easier than anyone could ever guess. In the end, he would stay and use his time wisely to think of what he would do. The smart thing to do, right? When the time came, Shadow was reluctant to leave the waiting room, but would have looked awkward if he didn’t. The information was reassuring, thankfully, but he still seemed tense while receiving it. Sighing, he nodded and glanced down. “I understand,” he replied quietly. “I’ll take him with me. He might not be comfortable here.” Just an assumption, but he would rather not pull any more attention to himself by sitting around. Taking Sonic home would be a good way to do that. Or worse. Either or. He was all too sick of making these decisions. He wanted to go to sleep, wake up and forget everything that had ever happened on this unfortunate night. Taking a deep breath, he looked back to the goose. “May I see him?” |

Nodding, the doctor gestured for him to follow as he headed further down the hall. After cutting a corner, he stopped at the first door on their left. "He's right in there." The goose didn't join him but had intended for a nurse to meet up with them shortly. Just inside the hospital room, Sonic was resting on a bed, side bandaged all the way around. The nurse would provide extra bandages since Sonic would have to change them once a day for at least a week. That would all be explained once she came into the room. In the meantime, the two would have some privacy. It appeared Sonic was already stirring. His view was a little distorted as he blinked multiple times, still feeling a bit out of it. He felt exhausted, weary eyes turning their attention to the dark figure that entered the room. He stared a moment, pursing his lips; and then looking away, ears folding. He seemed to be contemplating something. "So..." Sonic frowned, brows furrowed in frustration. He had many things to be upset about, but Shadow probably wasn't expecting what he said next... "You're alive?" |

Shadow didn’t except to get too much out of whatever conversation he would have with Sonic, if it would even be called that. There was no telling what he would say or think, or even if he was entirely awake yet. If the hedgehog was out of it, he could have been a total stranger to his eyes. Even if he wasn’t, there was some hope left in him that he wouldn’t be seen as too familiar. He couldn’t hope much. Shadow didn’t dare to enter the room fully, not until he was sure that Sonic was at least somewhat awake. Even after confirming that he was, he still continued to loiter by the doorway. Plenty awkward, but having some space was sure to give him some peace of mind. There was always that temptation to leave, but now his feet were rooted. Yet despite all of these troubling thoughts, his face still managed to remain – mostly – indifferent. The question was sure to come as a slight shock, though it couldn’t have been as bad as that news announcement. His shoulders seemed to hunch slightly as he crossed his arms, glancing off quickly. If that hadn’t been enough of a giveaway to his question, then his own surprising answer coming along might have. “I would say no,” he began, quiet. Acting was a specialty of his, but… “But you wouldn’t believe me.” Not after what he had seemed to realize, anyway. Too bad for whatever costume he had on now. Sonic cracked a smile though it was more sad than anything. He looked at him, trying to read him before jumping to conclusions; but his mind was already made up. "You expected something different?" Though he had to admit, the disguise was pretty good, there was just something off that was unmistakable. At the very least, that energy he felt clinging to his presence, he couldn't hide that. It was hard to say why Sonic's green eyes then reflected such disappointment. It could be in himself, for what happened to Mobotropolis, or what Shadow attempted to run away from. Most likely all three. "Coward." There was no grin to accompany what would have sounded mocking, a routine sense of behavior Sonic often joked with. Poking fun at the black hedgehog was not new, but the tone he used definitely was. Without giving him a chance to defend himself, Sonic was already struggling to get out of the bed. He didn't have time for this. He had to try to go back and make sure no one was left behind. Edited by Sonic the Hedgehog, Nov 23 2009, 06:16 PM.

Shadow: No, he thought bitterly. Shadow did not expect any less of the hero. Looking through his disguise may have been as easy as looking through glass or reading him like a book, something that always fed on his nerves. He hated feeling open and knowable. Now wasn’t the time to be angry, though, especially since the fault was supposedly his. But a coward? Shadow’s face hardened, but there wasn’t anything he could really say to prove him wrong. He might have felt guiltier if Sonic hadn’t slapped the name on him, though. What had he done that was so brave and bold like the blue one always did? Nothing. His whole plan seemed to be burning down around him now and all because Sonic was as simple as that. Although it was true that he couldn’t defend himself reasonably at this point, there was no reason why he couldn’t stop Sonic from trying to clamber out of bed and hurt himself even more. The dark one was quick to the bedside, forcibly urging him back on to the cushions, bit by bit. He wasn’t as gentle as he should have been with those injuries, but he didn’t want Sonic to think that he was going to be too easy on him just because of his condition. There was no way he could stop that constant vigour by being overly ginger. “Maybe,” he confessed, frowning miserably, “but having you be heroic now would be suicide." Sonic: "At least it's something." Sonic snapped, not willing to be helped so easily. He tried to push Shadow's arms away, ears pinned aggressively. Despite how worn out he was physically, there was nothing that stopped that burning fire in those eyes. A spirit that simply couldn't be kept up with, not even for someone as fast as him. Shadow would be able to overcome him easily despite the effort he put forth. That didn't mean he'd go so willingly. "Unlike you, I can't just lay around while my friends and family are in trouble." He assured bitterly, but then tried to catch his breath again. Okay, he knew he needed to cool it; getting so worked up wasn't going to help anything at all. But he couldn't help but be upset. After all these years, he too thought the Ultimate Lifeform had perished; and to see him alive and kicking, well... It wasn't that a sense of joy didn't come over him, but it was heavily outweighed by the motive of what Shadow did with his life since then. If it wasn't for him faking everybody out, maybe New Mobotropolis wouldn't be burning down in ruins right now. Shadow: Something. Shadow ground his teeth together, trying not to let himself be overcome by anything more than the indifference he used to be so good at displaying. It was difficult. The words stung like cold ice, and at the same time angered him because whatever was barked out at him, he was tempted to snap back. The urge to argue was strong, even if what Sonic was provoking him with was true, to an extent. He hadn’t been like this in quite a long time. He didn’t want to go believing every word of it. No, now he would defend himself. “How would I have known?” he seethed back, reinforcing his grip to fitfully lie him back down, despite any rejections. He loosened there, but he didn’t let go, in case Sonic wanted to try and get back up again. He was probably making it worse, but… “Had I learned about what was going on any other day than today, I might have helped.” Even the might in his words was worse than what the other was trying to get up and actually do. And that was all there was to it. Realization hit him like a train, and his anger burnt out as fast as it had built. He sighed, finally willing to let go completely and step back, bowing his head. Sonic was free to try and climb out again or snap at him. He hesitated this time, burning holes in the floor tiles with those oddly coloured eyes. “I’m sorry. I never knew this would happen.” Sorry or not, he could always try and do something about it. Sonic: Sonic winced though he tried to cover it immediately. Straining against that side and having Shadow push the other way certainly hurt. He gave up all at once, letting the striped hedgehog hold him down as he turned his head away stubbornly, not looking at him as he tried to take up for himself. He didn't try to get up again, however. He knew it was futile but it was hard not to want to try. It was almost impossible for him to see why Shadow had done what he did. Despite all of that, he knew Shadow didn't intend for it to happen. He was just being hard headed. Regardless of what he intended to come out of this, it was completely selfish and unfair for him to do what he had done. But maybe that wasn't the case. At the very least, he could allow for a full explanation. "Tell me why you did it." Sonic still didn't look at him, at this point, disappointed with himself that it'd be just too much trouble to try to get back up again. Shadow: Shadow was relieved when Sonic didn’t try to get back up again. It saved both him and the doctors a lot of trouble, because trying to restrain him might have ended up leading to worsening his condition. Of course, he still didn’t expect anything less of the blue hedgehog. He had shown some power, even if it wasn’t all physically, despite that handicap he had in his side. There was also a balance of relieve and awkwardness by not looking at each other. Sonic wasn’t the only one trying to avoid eye contact. To be honest, he wasn’t even entirely sure why he had done it anymore, either, not with all of these new problems on his shoulders. “It was a choice for me,” he murmured, picking off his fake glasses and tossing them into the trash with a scowl. “I could have either continued being Shadow or become somebody else entirely. Being somebody other than who I was seemed like a good idea.” He pinched his brow between his fingers. “I thought it might do the world some good.” To be without an Ultimate Lifeform, anyway. Sonic: Sonic rolled his eyes. He figured he wouldn't like whatever excuse he gave him. This one just made him even more disappointed. Finally looking at him again, he huffed. "I knew you were emo but that really takes the cake." Talking like that, it's a wonder he hadn't killed himself. Though he wasn't sure yet if he could actually die. Maybe that's why he didn't. "You made friends, you established a life for yourself, and worked for GUN. Was being social really that hard for you?" Edited by Sonic the Hedgehog, Dec 25 2009, 11:31 PM.
