Hey EDH’ers! Thanks for tuning in for ‘Lost but Seeking: Volume II!” Well, as promised, this week I’m going to introduce my Mono Blue EDH, but, more on that later. So then, to start off this week’s episode, I’d like to introduce a new section that I’ll be including each week, the ‘Best Of.’ And this week, we’ll be discussing artifacts, that is, the best artifacts of EDH. Now, these will be from my personal opinion, and unfortunately there’s just not enough time/space to list all the greats, but I’ll do my best to cover most of the notable ones. It’s important to note that these are relating to multi-player, not one-on-one. So, that being said, here are, what I consider the best 20 artifacts in all of EDH, in no specific order… 1. Sensei’s Divining Top 2. Sol Ring 3. Coalition Relic 4. Darksteel Ingot 5. Lightning Greaves 6. Gauntlet of Power 7. Duplicant 8. Skullclamp 9. Sundering Titan 10. Extraplanar Lens 11. Solemn Simulacrum 12. Oblivion Stone 13. Mind’s Eye 14. Scroll Rack 15. Tormod’s Crypt 16. Blightsteel Colossus 17. Sword of Fire and Ice 18. Nevinyrral’s Disk 19. Crucible of Worlds 20. Thousand-Year Elixir As you can see, depending on the deck you’re piloting, some of these can be quite good or pretty much worthless. For example, in my mono green deck, Gauntlet of Power is amazing and many times means a win, whereas in 5-Color EDH, it’s obviously a wasted slot. If you have any comments or questions on these choices, please feel free to leave feedback or send me a message. Now, moving on to other matters, I’d like to pose a question to my readers… in our ‘Question of the Week’ segment: As a long time player of several different card games, I’ve used about every sleeve out there. However, it seems pertinent when playing Elder Dragon Highlander to have sleeves you really like, as you’ll probably end up using them for a longer time than in other formats, and they must survive a lot of abuse from constant shuffling and cutting. Personally, I like to switch around a little bit. Though I’m normally a Dragon Shield man, currently, I’m sporting the Legion “Pure Jank” sleeves, as I found them when I was traveling abroad. So, the question is what’s your favorite sleeve for playing EDH? I’d love to have some responses here. Please include your reasoning why along with your answer. Thanks! Alright, so we’ve covered the ‘Best of’ artifacts and gone through our Question of the Week, now let’s switch over to our main event for the week, Mono Blue EDH. Notice that I haven’t specifically said which general? That’s because when most people hear the words “mono blue edh” they usually think of Erayo, Vendillion Clique, or Venser, Shaper Savant. However, I’ll instead be reviewing Sakashima the Imposter. ![]() If you don't have time to read this whole article, please scroll down to the decklist. This general is all about stealing your opponent’s cards. Sakashima herself loves to copy other player’s generals, which is like always having a hard counter you’re their general. Let’s review the deck piece by piece and what each card is there for. THIEVERY First, the most fun part of the deck, stealing other peoples cards! Most of these cards can be game winners and above all else are a blast to play. Sakashima the Imposter Gilded Drake Sower of Temptation Body Double Duplicant Sphinx Ambassador Rite of Replication Acquire Bribery Knowledge Exploitation Blatant Thievery Memnarch Vedalken Shackles Sculpting Steel (Psuedo) TUTORS & DRAW One of the most important parts of any deck is of course getting the spells you actually want. To do so, I’ve included a lot of cards that will either find a specific card and/or draw you cards to increase your chances of getting one of those cards. Dreamscape Artist (Land tutor) Vedalken Aethermage Trinket Mage Expedition Map Mystical Tutor Muddle the Mixture Long-Term Plans Fabricate Tezzeret, the Seeker Mulldrifter Thirst for Knowledge Fact or Fiction Rhystic Study Jace Beleren REMOVAL & COUNTERS Many times the difference between winning and losing a game is if you’re able to stop or remove a threat. These come in the form of spells, creatures, lands, etc. To make sure we’re able to do so, this deck includes, what I feel is an adequate amount of roadblocks. Sundering Titan Oblivion Stone Nevinyrral's Disk Pongify Spin into Myth Evacuation Capsize Willbender Glen Elendra Archmage Venser, Shaper Savant (Psuedo) Pact of Negation Forbid Cryptic Command ACCELERATORS Next we have a few cards that will make your game go faster. It’s important to start fast and these spells with help you do so… Solemn Simulacrum Everflowing Chalice Sol Ring Mind Stone Thran Dynamo UTILITY Then we have the utility cards, or in some cases cards that just didn’t fit another category. Mnemonic Wall Magus of the Future Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir Meekstone Crystal Shard Lightning Greaves Proteus Staff Crucible of Worlds Twincast Future Sight LANDS Lastly, there’s our land base. Many of these cards are self-explanatory but if not I’ll make sure to make a notation. 23 Snow-Covered Island Seat of the Synod Darksteel Citadel Flooded Strand Polluted Delta Misty Rainforest Scalding Tarn Academy Ruins High Market (great back-up when players try to get their stolen cards back) Minamo, School at Water's Edge Reliquary Tower Riptide Laboratory (great with Venser, Shaper Savant) Strip Mine DECKLIST General Sakashima the Impostor Creatures Dreamscape Artist Vedalken Aethermage Willbender Gilded Drake Trinket Mage Solemn Simulacrum Glen Elendra Archmage Sower of Temptation Venser, Shaper Savant Body Double Mulldrifter Mnemonic Wall Magus of the Future Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir Duplicant Memnarch Sphinx Ambassador Sundering Titan Artifacts Everflowing Chalice Tormod's Crypt Meekstone Expedition Map Sensei's Divining Top Sol Ring Mind Stone Crystal Shard Lightning Greaves Oblivion Stone Proteus Staff Sculpting Steel Vedalken Shackles Crucible of Worlds Nevinyrral's Disk Thran Dynamo Instants Pact of Negation Mystical Tutor Pongify Muddle the Mixture Twincast Long-Term Plans Thirst for Knowledge Capsize Forbid Hinder Fact or Fiction Cryptic Command Spin into Myth Evacuation Sorceries Fabricate Rite of Replication Acquire Bribery Knowledge Exploitation Blatant Thievery Enchantments Rhystic Study Future Sight Planeswalkers Jace Beleren Tezzeret the Seeker Lands 23 Snow-Covered Island Seat of the Synod Darksteel Citadel Flooded Strand Polluted Delta Misty Rainforest Scalding Tarn Academy Ruins High Market Minamo, School at Water's Edge Reliquary Tower Riptide Laboratory Strip Mine Tolaria West Winding Canyons Maze of Ith Mystifying Maze Thawing Glaciers Vesuva Well, that's this weeks article. Again, if you have any comments, please post them here and I'll be happy to respond. Stay tuned next week for the 'Best of' White, the 'Question of the Week,' and a super-secret EDH. Thanks for reading, now get out there and game! Ryan |
