DETROIT (AP)—A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press that Tracy McGrady(notes)  has agreed to terms of a one-year contract with the Detroit Pistons.

The person, who spoke Tuesday on the condition of anonymity because the deal hasn’t been announced, says McGrady will play for $1.3 million this season.

McGrady played in just 30 games last season for Houston and New York. He had major surgery on his right knee in the middle of the 2008-09 season.

The seven-time All-Star and two-time scoring champion drew some interest from the Chicago Bulls this summer.

Seems like one of those situations where you say "Why not?" and sign the guy for cheap.

Low risk/high reward, you get a star name on the decline who will still likely put up 12-18ppg, sell some jerseys, get a buzz going, etc.

It's not like the Pistons are going to be actively competing next year; the team is sort of in a transitional mode. Have some fun for a bit while in the process...
