Jameer Nelson is making steady progress in his rehabilitation from his Nov. 18 arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to repair torn lateral meniscus cartilage.

Though the point guard is doing more and more rehab work with each successive day, the earliest he could possibly practice with the team will be this upcoming Sunday, Van Gundy said.

"I want to practice before then, but I've got to listen to the boss," Nelson said. "I'm going to push it as much as I can because I'm a competitor, but I'm not going to do anything stupid."

Nelson is doing some full-court drills on his own, but he hasn't done any live work against someone else since his surgery. The length of his sessions increase with each day, and the team closely monitors his knee to ensure that it doesn't swell.

Good. I wonder what kind of shape he'll be in. These injuries of his the past couple of seasons have to be taking a toll on his body.

I think he should come off the bench the first couple of weeks. He's not in the status of "must start if he's healthy" IMO. Especially with the play we've been getting from J-Will and AJ

Indeed. He needs to work his way back into the rotation.

hate to say it, but this franchise absolutely loves nelson. he'll be a starter faster than you think..even though I think j-will is more deserving.

If all goes well, the Magic could have All-Star point guard Jameer Nelson back by next week.

Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy said Thursday night that Nelson is scheduled to practice on Sunday.

He had surgery on Nov. 18 to repair torn cartilage in his left knee.

Nelson was averaging 13.7 points and 5.5 assists prior to the injury.
