It was rumored he'd be fired after tonight's Lakers game, but New Jersey Nets Head Coach Lawrence Frank won't get an opportunity to improve on his team's current 0-16 mark. It's more than likely tonight the Nets will tie the worst NBA start to a season of 0-17 that was accomplished by the 1988-1989 Miami Heat, and the '98-'99 Los Angeles Clippers.
Tom Barrise will be in charge of a Nets squad that look completely demoralized even as they've returned injured key contributors. No permanent replacement has been announced at this time. The odds of them overcoming Phil Jackson's Los Angeles Lakers to avoid making history are very low. It's ironic that Frank ends on such a horrendous streak, as he started his coaching career winning 13 consecutive games when he took over the Nets in January 2004 for the fired Byron Scott. That '03-'04 season proved to be Frank's best coaching job, percentage wise. He went 25-15, winning 62.5% of those games. In his 7 years with New Jersey Frank went to the playoffs his first 4 years, but hasn't returned to postseason play since '06-'07. Three times he led his team to the Eastern Conference Semifinals where they would be knocked out each time.

I don't even really know what to say. I doubt anyone's going to be accomplishing much as the head coach of that team, this season.

The Nets lost today against the champs and whatever the reason, it's almost as a pill to swallow. It's embarrassing just as much to be the sole possession of the worst start in the history of the NBA.
