The Orlando Magic's Dwight Howard may be struggling offensively so far this season thanks in large part to incessant foul trouble, but he is still Superman in the community. Howard earned the NBA's coveted Community Assist Award for the month of October, thanks to his super-human efforts in the greater Orlando area. Howard is being honored in part due to his helping to design a state-of-the-art playroom for teenages at Florida Hospital that houses the latest board games, movies, and videogame technology.

He pledged $30,000 as part of the "Dwight Howard's Big Change For Kids" program that funded the completion of the room which will give children who are undergoing trying medical treatment a place to relax and have fun. Howard also plans to further support the fundraising effort through fundraising efforts at businesses, schools, and places of worship in the community.

Howard and his parents also created the Dwight D. Howard foundation back in 2004, which annually grants scholarships for children to attend his alma mater, Southwest Atlanta Christain Academy, as well as provides financial assistance for Central Florida schools Lovell Elementary and Memorial Middle.

"God blessed me with more than I could ever imagine," said Howard. "Being able to give back to these kids and to people who really need help is very important to me."

This marks the third occasion that Dwight is the recipient of this award from the league, as the award's winner Howard will receive the David Robinson Plaque and the NBA will make a $5,000 donation towards his "Big Change For Kids" program.
