Marcin Gortat could be traded before the deadline. The Magic kept him this summer by matching an offer sheet he received from Dallas, but they really don't want to be paying $5 million annually for a backup center who rarely plays behind Howard. They kept him because they believe one of the teams in need of a center will offer something significant in return. What they start looking for will depend on how all the new additions fit in around Howard.

I think it is a 50/50 chance. The ball is on the Magic's court. If an offer they can't refuse comes up, they'll go for it, but if not and Gortat can help bring us a championship, they'll keep him.

Much as Dennis Scott leaving NBATV to unretire to play for the Magic again.
No only if it gets a starting PF in return.

Could we see some more of Gortat at PF?

C Marcin Gortat wants to start playing some at power forward because he won’t get enough minutes backing up Howard at center. The Magic tried playing them together a little last season and they may experiment more with the idea. Van Gundy is thrilled at the versatility he has on the roster and he remains intrigued by Gortat’s potential.

I dont see why we would trade him. We need a backup Center dont we? Dont tell me you guys want Adonale Foyle playing.

Maybe for a legit PF and another PG if J-Will and AJ aren't looking swift backing up Jammer or if god forbid Jameer gets hurt again, we know he has a history of being banged up. Like efenell said, we don't want Foyle getting minutes backing up Dwight.

why is it that you guys haven't realized bass is a legit starting PF. he is exactly what we need down there. perfect short range jumper, crashes the boards, and is a good defender. we've got four other starters that want the ball in their hands, so we can use a guy that does the dirty work.

gortat will be with the magic the entire season barring injury to another starter. who would we put at backup C? Foyle is having surgery and cannot be counted on the minutes gortat gets even when healthy.

Just look at our team on paper:
PG: Nelson - JWill
SG: Carter - Pietrus
SF: Lewis - Barnes
PF: Bass - Anderson
C: Howard - Gortat

I am not even going to add the guys who have little to no impact on the team. Looking at that above - who is going to even touch us in the east? I can safely say I am equally excited about our second string as our first string.

It's probably too early to tell, but I have to wonder if Gortat should be included in a list of the top ten current NBA Centers.
He hasn't had many real tests yet. But he sure is making the most of his limited minutes.

I don't mean to say Bass isn't a legit PF, maybe I should have said another banger at PF, but then with Anderson that would kind of clog things at that position.

I don't think we are trading Gortat any time soon. He is so good now, and we developed this guy. With him and Dwight we have a monster under the basket for 48 minutes of every game. I see us keeping him for maybe 2 years and once Vince is off the books, we would trade him to get a solid SG to replace Vince.
I agree that It would be nice to have another big guy in the team that can give us 6 fouls once playoff times comes. that would probably be a late season pick up.

Gortat is Gortat, he is a back up. If there is a suitable trade I believe the Magic will do the deal.
