The last time Rafer Alston, Tony Battie, and Courtney Lee played against the Boston Celtics they had sent them packing for the summer. The trio were members of the Orlando Magic team that eliminated the Celtics in Game Seven the Eastern Conference Semifinals. This year they are in a different uniform and noticed the Cs have a different look as well.

Alston, Battie, and Lee were traded from the Magic to the New Jersey Nets over the summer as part of the Vince Carter deal. On Sunday they got their first take at the Celtics with their new team during preseason action at the TD Garden (RECAP HERE).

“They got a brand new season,” said Battie. “I mean, you look and Kevin (Garnett)’s back and Rasheed (Wallace)’s part of it. They got a great steal in getting Marquis Daniels so that and you have those three additions coming back in the team. So I think they’re the team to beat definitely.”

Honestly, if the Celtics manage to stay fully healthy I feel like they are the team to beat too.

But I've got to think part of the reason those guys are playing up the Celtics is to sort of jab at their former employers...

Okay, I too feel as though the Celts will meet us in the eastern conference finals. I'm not so certain they'll beat us though.

Aside from Carter, all of our starters are heading into their prime. While all but one of the Celtics starters (assuming Wallace starts at center) are getting older and slowing down.

I've got no respect for the Cleveland team.

I have to agree, on paper if healthy they probably have the best starting 5 in the league. With that said we are a close 2nd but we probably have a edge in the depth department, so it should be very interesting. Also don't sleep on the Cavs, I think this will be an interesting 3 team and race and without question whoever gets that 1 seed will have a HUGE advantage because they will only have to go through ONE of the big THREE; and obviously home court never hurts also.

I agree Vinnie. We've got them with depth but their starting 5 is nothing to bet against. Teams have a right to be hyping them up but they can't forget who made it to the finals from the East, either.

Rasheed Wallace seems to be fitting in nicely for the Celtics.

Our bench is deep, but the Celtics are about on par. Plus, expect Rondo to improve even more. However, age will be a factor for Boston. We'll see who's left standing and how much is left in the tank once the playoffs roll around...
