There is a good reason that Boston and Cleveland -- two of the three serious contenders in the Eastern Conference -- added proven big men to their roster this summer. They already know what's coming.

Magic center Dwight Howard, already the best big man in basketball, is going to be even better this season.

Howard has come to training camp with another 10 pounds of muscle on his well-muscled frame, up to 275 pounds. He also believes his 59 percent free throw percentage -- his only serious flaw -- will rise to 70 percent after a summer of sharpening his shot.

How huge would it be if Howard became a consistent 70% shooter from the charity stripe? Personally, I feel like even 65% would be a great improvement, and would help make defenses pay when fouling him down the stretch of games.

Rocks blocking shots on guys with dreadlocks
I'll beleive the free throw shooting when I see it. If he added on those pounds to his lower body then perkins and co. better watch out

Yeah, same here. However, considering how he shot in the playoffs, along with the fact that he has had an entire summer devoted to refining his shot (as opposed to last Summer when he was playing with the USA squad), I feel confident that he can at least get that average up around 65%.

Dwight can hit his FTs...there are videos floating around where he sinks 20 in a row (if not more). It is just that he needs to be able to integrate it into game situations.

Also, that 10 extra pounds (especially if it is in his legs)....holy crap...add another 1.5" to his leaping ability.... :wow:

I have ZERO faith that Dwight will ever shoot 70 percent or better from the line. If he could bump it up to 65 percent for the season I'd be shocked. He did it his rookie year, but that was in like half the attempt that he sees now and to me it would be a miracle just to get him back over the 60 percent mark for the year. I have zero faith in his free throw shooting and I'm tired of hearing about it. I still can't believe he missed those two free throws in Game 4 last year.

Until he learns to shoot the ball correctly, he won't shoot higher than 65%.

Howard made some key free throws under pressure during last year's playoff run. I don't expect him to shoot 70% but I expect him to at least shoot better than 60%.

I'm very excited about our team. Go Magic!
