The Orlando Magic have signed free agents Morris Almond and Linton Johnson III.

Their roster currently stands at 15 players.

From Wikipedia:

Almond played sparingly in his rookie season with the Jazz, averaging just 4.3 minutes in 9 games. His career high is currently 12 points, at Sacramento on December 2, 2008. He scored his first NBA points on January 8 2008 against the Indiana Pacers, with 2 points on 1-of-5 shooting. However, he spent considerable time with the team's D-League affiliate, the Utah Flash, to whom he was assigned.[2] He led the D-League in scoring during the season, averaging 25.6 points per game.[3] In just his fifth game with the team on December 21, 2007, he tied a league record with 51 points in a 118–116 victory over the Austin Toros.[4] Later in the season, he broke the record with a 53-point performance against the Bakersfield Jam in a 102–87 win.[5]

On September 18, 2009, Morris Almond signed with the Orlando Magic.

Any thoughts on this guy? Sure, he did all this scoring in the D-League, but I'm still at the very least intrigued. Maybe he'll take over Jeremy Richardson's spot on the roster or something...

All those points in the D-League and no NBA team was biting? Sounds odd if he is that good but I'd still take him over Jeremy Richardson or another bench warmer. He's at least worth a shot.

Yeah, Knicks fans seemed high on him (he was on their Summer League roster just before us).

But, the Knicks just recently let him go, so if he can't even hang on with them, that might tell you something...

Here are what some Jazz fans are saying (the last NBA team he played for):

Well, he's a better athlete then JJ. He's bigger, can jump higher and is probably a bit faster.

He would really benefit from the open shots that D12 would open up for him.

He can't pass though, and his defense seems to get good reviews some places and horrible reviews others.

I think the most telling fact is that he was benched during the NBDL finals, and he might be the best player in D-League history.

Also he couldn't make the Knicks training camp roster so...

In the few games he played for the Jazz, he looked lost most of the time and took some horrible shots. He did have some good defensive moments in a couple of games against good SGs. He can hit the 3 and has some athleticism. If he can get his head straight, he can become a decent rotation player, but since you guys are contending and have a pretty deep roster already, I doubt he makes the team.

I'm a Jazz fan, as well as a Magic fan, so I've seen him play almost as much as anyone. Utah has gone REALLY soft the last few years, and I'm not sure if that rubbed off on Almond or not, but he plays defense with absolutely no heart. He has a decent offensive game that could develop into something pretty solid, and his athletic ability is pretty impressive, but his defense is what will probably stop him from ever being even a spot starter in the league. I think Orlando would be wise to sign him, and see if he can't learn some things from this talented roster and be ready to play some minutes in a couple of years, but as of now, I would be worried if he was getting regular playing time on one of my teams.

I find it to be more intriguing that his all star performance is that good for a backup.
