Rashard Lewis of the Orlando Magic has tested positive for a performance enhancing substance, and will thus be suspended for the first 10 games of the next season.

According to league sources, Lewis had been taking nutritional supplements towards the end of the 2008-2009 season, that unknowing to him contained a susbstance commonly known as DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone). DHEA is made naturally in the body, and can be purchased in many over-the-counter supplements sold in stores. But, the substance has been banned by most sports, including the NBA.

Tony Dutt, Lewis' agent, said: "We're just getting word of some things, so at this point I don't want to make a comment on it."

"It's our understanding it was a vitamin supplement."

One source said he believed Lewis's positive test was "an honest mistake."

"There are more than 100 banned substances on the league's list and athletes have to watch everything they take from common cold medications to vitamins to supplements," the source said.

f**k!!! :(
We get to test out our new frontcourt depth now.

I do not see Rashard being that type of person/player by any means. DHEA probably just slipped through the cracks...i mean it can happen, especially if they were just a nutritional vitamin supplement. We can't start bad mouthing him......anyone can make that mistake.

he is the type of player to play by the rules....he doesn't have to "cheat" because he already has one of the sweetest shots in the league....so i do not see why you would think he intentionally tried to "boost" his performance.

but all we can do is just wait and see what comes from this!

yeah because its in most of the vitamins and supplements you get from GNC, so im sure he was trying to get an edge over other guys with that :hmmm:

Honestley, I was kind of relieved to hear it was only 10 games. The title of the story on ESPN made it sound like he was banned for the entire season.
We'll be fine. I have full confidence in Matt Barnes.

This is not the weirdest news I've seem. Not for one bit. To understand this as a Major league drug story is that if he lied about it and felt unreliable to trust about his intentions. He told the truth and being honest about it, I would give credit to his honesty, but he would've paid much attention as to what he is doing with those drugs. Now the questions that I am going to be asking from now on is this, "What did he use those drugs for a purpose and how long has he have been using them????" X.

To quote what he said about his "unintentional mistake" and the team:

Quote:

"I hope this unintentional mistake will not reflect poorly on our team and its great character." Quote from Rashard Lewis

Does it damage the image of the team regarding the drug allegations and how much and how big is that damage going to look like in our team??

Don't know enough of the story to really comment on Lewis, but overall this is a major blunder that might end up costing us a #1 or #2 seed down the line.

Hopefully it isn't the case, but we're losing one of our most important weapons in a conference that should be tightly competitive between Orlando, Boston, and Cleveland.

Oops.
Well you know, a year ago I would have been real dissapointed with 'Shard. But recently I've delved into the world of supplements. I've got no idea how these pro athletes & trainers keep everything straight. There are so many supps out there and all are different and everyone you talk to will give you a different opinion on each one.
You'd think by now there would be more standardized regulation for these things.
I'm so confused that I won't be taking any just yet.

As soon as I heard the news, the first thing that immediately popped into my mind was that this is a blessing in disguise. Now we are going to find out if Gortat can get value playing along side Dwight at the 4. We're going to see if Bass can be the starting PF that we needed. And it will give Ryan Anderson minutes early in the season to see if we can use him a decent amount this season.

Barnes will probably back up MP at the 3 spot, which will allow JJ to back up VC and this is basically his last shot with us. If he's ever going to make it with us, now is the time and this could be a huge opportunity for him.

Not to mention, that is 10 less games of wear and tear on those knees that have hampered Rashard in the past.

As long as we can avoid the injury bug, I think this could really go a long way toward molding our team for the rest of the season.
