WTF? I had to check and make sure that wasn't a gag, but looking at the fan comments I guess that's a legit article. what is going on?

Free agent Hedo Turkoglu(notes) has backed out of his commitment to the Portland Trail Blazers and could be signing with the Toronto Raptors, a source close to the talks told Yahoo! Sports on Friday night.

Turkoglu had agreed on a five-year, $50 million deal with the Blazers, but changed his mind and could be headed for a five-year, $56 million deal with the Raptors. Toronto would have to renounce three free agents – Shawn Marion(notes), Carlos Delfino(notes) and Anthony Parker(notes) – to create the cap space for Turkoglu.

Apparently, the Blazers are already busy exploring other free-agent options for the $9 million in salary-cap space.

Five years ago, Turkoglu was close to signing with the Phoenix Suns that now-Toronto GM Bryan Colangelo was running, but changed his mind and went to the Orlando Magic.

Update from the Oregonian:

ESPN's Ric Bucher reported that Turkoglu's wife played a major factor in the decision, as she preferred living in Toronto more than she did Portland. The Raptors were the Blazers' staunchest opponent in the race to sign the 6-foot-10 forward, and appear to be the likely destination for the 30-year-old.

-----

ESPN.com is still reporting that Orlando Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu is signing with Portland, but NBA.com has said that Hedo has put that on hold to entertain an offer from Toronto.

David Aldridge is saying that a league source told him the Turkoglu is not going to the Trail Blazers.

Local 6 news just reported we have made a final offer to hedo of 5yrs/45mill. So its between us and the raptors but they expect hedo to take the raptors offer. Atleast we did make a good attempt to resign him if he goes to toronto although i think 5 years is a little long for him

We did at least try. I guess $10 million is more important to him than winning. I'm not judging, but at least Portland would have given him a chance. Toronto might be a playoff team now. But what happens when Bosh leaves after this season?

I think they're trying to do the same thing Cleveland is - put together a good team quickly and then use that to convince your star to stay. If they manage to get Turk and Marion, they are looking at a pretty solid front line, and they've certainly got some talent in their backcourt.

Deezy on Real GM has posted this:

"It's either $53M from Toronto or $45M from Orlando. I've been told Hedo all but agreed to take the Magic's offer."

If Toronto doesn't offer more than $53, why would he take that over our offer when you factor in taxes, it really isn't much more at all, maybe $1 to $2 million per year.

I guess if his wife REALLY wanted to go to Toronto, maybe that would be enough reason, but the money looks close right now. There's still hope.

Consider it a long shot, but that guy I quoted did say that we offered the $45 million before it was announced anywhere else. He might actually have a source. I wouldn't get my hopes up, but by the time we get up in the morning, there is no telling what all will happen.
