Magic spokesman Joel Glass says that point guard Jameer Nelson is ahead of schedule in his rehab from a shoulder injury.

Glass added that his status for the NBA Finals remains uncertain.

Team president Bob Vander Weide told The Orlando Sentinel after Saturday's win over Cleveland that Nelson would consult doctors about a possible comeback.

The All-Star guard has been out since early February, and Magic general manager Otis Smith has maintained that his shoulder injury is season-ending.

I really hope he's able to come back in a limited role off the bench. I'd just hate to see him miss the Finals.

Of course, only if he's fully recovered. Or at least like 90%.

As much as I like Nelson, I really don't like the idea of a comeback.

We're in a bit of a rhythm right now - no need to mess that up. Not to mention the risk of further damage to his shoulder.

Yeah, I'm with Falcon on this one. There's really no need. We're on a roll and you wouldn't want to disturb it. And you also wouldn't want to disturb Jameer's newly repaired shoulder.

I actually agree with you guys.

I really want to see him play a couple minutes a game just because he deserves it, but really it would only be because of that. I doubt he'd make much of a difference in his current state.

Rafer is still no Jameer, but he's far better than he was in the regular season. He is managing the game well, and while I still think he is taking too many shots, he is getting the ball to Howard and defering to Turkoglu at the right times.

This story is really gathering steam. This might actually happen. What a big boost emotionally it will be for the team.

Yeah, I'm still torn on this, I keep flip-flopping on what I would like to see.

In the end, if he's healthy enough, he can provide a few minutes a game. And I don't mean putting him in in a tight game situation, but maybe we've got like a 8-10 point lead and playing strong, give him a minute or two here or there to excite the home crowd and give the team an emotional boost, see what he's got in the tank.

I don't know. We'll see how the story develops. Like dxwwf3 said, it could be a big emotional boost, a good spark off the bench (in very limited minutes).

Magic general manager Otis Smith has acknowledged for the first time that Jameer Nelson could play in the NBA Finals.

Smith said that Nelson would only be activated if he passes "a litany of tests" on his injured right shoulder.

Nelson hasn't played since tearing the labrum in his shoulder in early February.

"It's up in the air. We'll see how Jameer looks the next few days," Smith said. "There's a few more things we have to get comfortable with. We're looking at the pros and cons. Doctors will have to talk to doctors. If we're at a place where Jameer can help us accomplish our goals, then maybe he can play and give us some more punch.

"There's a litany of tests he'll have to pass. His health is the main thing. We're not going to mortgage his future."

Nelson will have significant input in the final decision.

"Would I like to play? Of course. I'm a competitor," Nelson said. "But I don't want to do anything that would jeopardize me long-term."

I am flabbergasted that not only it's a risk to Jameer's health, it's a chemistry risk which the whole team will regret if they can't seal the season right. But I understand it's exaggeration to everyone's opinion and I think that this team will work this one out, you know have a get together of what should be the game plan since this news.
