Crane Collapses At New Downtown Arena
POSTED: Monday, May 4, 2009
UPDATED: 4:48 pm EDT May 4, 2009

A 200-ton crane has collapsed in downtown Orlando.
The collapse happened at the construction site for the new arena on South Street. The mobile crane collapsed into the upper bowl of the arena.
No injuries or trappings have been reported.
Watch Local 6 News for more information.

I thought this was only relegated to New York.

That picture doesn't really help at all in determining the damage. The good news is that the construction was well ahead of schedule (though they were preparing for hurricanes, not their own equipment failing).

The skeleton of the arena is supposed to be done within 2-3 months. Partly due in part to hurricane season coming, but it's 90% because this same construction crew is heading down south to work on starting the new Florida Marlins baseball stadium.

Still don't know how bad the damage is.

I went to the OrlandoEventsCenter website where you can look at the progress on the new arena, and from the images there, the damage was minimal, except to the crane!
