Orlando's Hedo Turkoglu appears to be leaning towards opting out of his contract at the end of the season.

Turkoglu indicated as much during an interview with the Orlando Sentinel on Monday, but has yet to make a final decision.

If he decides to remain playing under his current six-year, $39 million contract, he'd earn around $7.3 million next season.

"If I'm coming out, I'm coming out for one reason — to secure myself, my family. Not wait for the NBA lockout and stuff. The only reason I'm making that decision — if I decided that — is not to worry about another year," Turkoglu said.

"Listen, the market is going to be bad, anyway, this year or the next year. I'm just thinking about doing my best for this team and go from there.

"I just don't want to go through this stuff again and have to worry about injuries and lockouts and other stuff ... and just have a clear mind. Just knowing that I'm secure for another four or five years and just focus on my game."

The collective bargaining agreement will expire after the 2010-11 season and could lead to a decrease in salaries.

If you asked me at the begining of the season if we should get rid of Hedo I would've said hell no. But now I'm not too sure. He's just so inconsistant at times, and I'm not sure Orlando should have 2 SF's while lacking depth at the 4. however, who could we bring in at that price that would realistically help this team better than Hedo?

I agree, there aren't many better options out there.

...and I think Turk is smart to understand that. Hopefully Otis can pull something off to get into the draft. I would have no choice but to asume JJ is our best option he's shown that he can play and has value, and even if he does, it's a weak draft anyway so im not sure it would make much of a difference.

I honestly don't know what we should do, but I will say this:

Lewis' knees are hurting, and the longer he plays PF, the more pounding his knees/body are going to take. The Magic have way too much money invested in him to take too many chances.

Also, Hedo's game declined this season. I'd hate to see us invest lots of money and then him just continue to decline.

I don't envy the Magic's front office right now. Obviously Hedo is a big part of why we're where we are today, but at what price to both Lewis and to the payroll can you afford to keep him?

Great point. They have to look at what they've invested on Lew already and make a decision based on that. Your right though, they can't ignore the fact hat his body is taking a pounding guarding these bigger players.

Let him walk, put Shard back at his natural three and get a legit power forward on this team.

Don't care what we do with Hedo as long as we can keep Lee when his contract is up ;)

Well maybe we would still be able to do a S&T for him and maybe get a draft pick at least.

This kinda falls in with what jscarrozzo was saying. It's probablly a long shot, but Hedo to Sac for their first rounder. Not sure if the Maloofs would go for this move at this point in hedo's career, but they already have to good young bigs in Hawes and jason thompson so picking up Hedo along with martin would make for a pretty potent team instead of clogging up the PF/C rotation.... then again, they have a whole splash screen when you go to their website celebrating their first top 5 draft pick in 18 years so maybe they wont trade it.

lol, yeah that would be amazing...

Right now I don't really know who all our options are if Hedo isn't re-signed.

Actually, I'm wondering how much money he'll even end up making with the way the economy is today.

If we get Turk back, that's great and we keep our core intact.

If he walks, to be honest it might be an addition by subtraction. Lee is stepping up as a scoring option in the playoffs. Turkoglu also has the mobility of a slug sometimes, which kills us on transition defense. If we can get a legit PF and move Shard over, we might be a much better team overall.
