Howard is Fading...; Should SVG eventually rest the big guy?

We've all noticed Howard hasn't exactly been himself out there lately - except for the occasional big game - so I was wondering if maybe SVG should think about resting him heavily during the tail end of the season?

I'm thinking like in the last 3-4 games - assuming the 3rd seed is locked up - having Howard only play 1 or 2 quarters, to rest his legs some and let him focus on getting ready for the postseason.

I read this today in Yahoo's fantasy bball report:

Quote:

Dwight Howard (FC – Orlando) We're seeing a late fade from Howard for the second straight season. His per-game rank on the season of 75 has fallen to 142 over the past month, as his numbers have declined in every statistical category, except for an increase in turnovers.

I just don't want to see him continue to decline as we head into the playoffs. Maybe some rest during the last 1-2 weeks would do him some good. Let him start, play for a quarter or so, then sit back and relax.

Thoughts?

Yeah read that the other day, but frankly, I dont believe it. He is a superstar and hes just having a little rough patch. Every star goes through it, I'm not worried. He is a big time player and lives for the moments where he has to step it up, like the playoffs.

Plus, he had 24 and 21 last night... how is that a decline lol :haha:

He's lazy, not tired. He bounced back with that 20-20 after SVG called him out. Best effort I've seen out of D12 in a month.

Is he possibly bored, and ready for the postseason to come around?

I read some Celtics fans discussing this about Garnett as well.

I think Dwight is already on the "rest" mode. Aside from the 20-20 against the Spurs, he is has basically been coasting.

I would like SVG to limit his minutes though - to avoid any injury more than anything else. Our key guys, Shard, Turk, Jameer and Dwight should get limited minutes just as precaution from getting injured out there on meaningless games.

Well, he has two days rest between the Spurs and Bucks, and then three days rest before the next game.

I think Dwight can man up and handle the last few games, but I wouldn't mind seeing him get a lighter load during back to backs (if there are any left). Also, when we get a big lead, all the starters need to sit and not risk injury.

Just win enough to lock down the 3 and rest the starters some, but do not throw the last few games completely in the crapper.

I don't know what it is. But I hope he's in gear come playoff time because we're going to need him.

I want him to at least play 25 minutes. Then put in Gortat or something. We need to rest the big 3 because they avg. like 40 minutes per game each almost. Give them some rest, let the scrubs play, and get them focus for the playoffs.
