We had a long, enjoyable run, and I would like to thank every Orlando Magic fan who contributed to our small community on the web. This message board will be left online as an archive into the thoughts and minds of a group of Magic fanatics who lived through a 21-win season, the drafting of Dwight Howard, and an eventual NBA Finals appearance. I am with Falcon on this one. I just don't see Maggette taking a hug paycut to play for us. If no one offers him higher than the MLE, than we have a shot. But I think he will be getting bigger offers. This maybe his last chance to get a big contract, so it would not make financial sense to him -again unless there are no better offers.
Jason Williams is a possibility since I don't think he will get better offers.

Maggette's a veteran. And what do veterans want? To win a championship! They are willing to shrink their stat sheets in return for being on a contending team. The good thing about Maggette, though, is that he is still one of the best at his position.
And just like so many have done before him, he would be willing to take a huge pay cut to play alongside the most dominant big man in the NBA and one of the hottest shooting teams in the league.
Not to mention...he would love to win a championship in his hometown!
Did he say that stuff or are you just speculating? I doubt Maggette, in his prime, would be willing to take a "huge pay cut" and "shrink his stat sheet". He's 28, not 35. Consider how much money we gave Lewis this offseason. Lewis' statline for the previous season (which was his career best season): 22.4 pts, 46% shooting, 6.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists per game. This season, Maggette is averaging 22.4 pts, 47% shooting, 5.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists per game. They average almost identical numbers, and Maggette is only 3 months older that Lewis. Now, did Lewis take a "huge pay cut" to play next to a dominant center? Hell no. He got ever last dollar out of us that he could, so why should we think Maggette would be willing to take a pay cut to play here? I think Maggette will go looking for his massive pay day, and it would be really suprising to me if he found it here. I would love to have him, but I doubt we can afford him.
Povtak said in the article he thinks we can get Maggette for the mid-level exception, provided that it's a five-year deal.
I just can't see that happening. If I were Maggette, I know I wouldn't accept it.
Well it depends, if he wants to continue making a lot of money, then he will go elsewhere. If he wants to possibly win a championship, he'll play here or somewhere else. He's wanted to come back to Orlando for quite some time so taking a pay cut isn't necessary not out of the question for Maggette. Playing with Dwight Howard will have many people wanting to take a pay cut.
I guess it's not out of the question, but it certainly doesn't seem likely. There's plenty of time to take paycuts for championships when you are in your mid 30s. He's 28 and in the prime of his career, having a great statistical season. Players in that situation almost never take pay cuts, for any reason.

Well, the thing with the FA market this year is that it projects to be highly competitive and with little money to spend. Meaning the MLE will be the best a lot of really good players can hope to get. IF Maggette is really looking to make money than I doubt he opts out in the first place. If he wants to win and what not, then he could sign here. I think it is a distinct possibility, though I do tend to get carried away.

I absolutely agree. With that being said, I don't know exactly how many teams have a lot of cap room this upcoming off-season. He could end up staying in LA and hopefully Elton Brand will re-sign as well unless he might go to Miami (possibly). Maggette as said himself though that he wouldn't mind playing for Orlando again so hopefully somehow we can have Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu talk to him. I would say Rashard Lewis but he would tell Maggette to take all our money like he did.
