Center Dwight Howard and point guard Jameer Nelson huddled first with General Manager Otis Smith, then immediately afterward with Coach Stan Van Gundy in his office Monday at noon, getting a double-barrelled reminder of their responsibilities as co-captains of the Orlando Magic.

Howard, 22, and Nelson, 26, are one of the youngest sets of captains in the league, and the pep-talk/lecture they received came a few hours before the team is scheduled to play the Atlanta Hawks at Amway Arena.

The meetings are notable particularly because they follow a disappointing home loss to the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night in which they were badly outhustled by the visiting team.

"It was just a reminder that everyone is watching us, teammates, fans, the organization. It comes with being a captain,'' said Howard after the morning practice and the noon meetings. "We're in the position to lead. We have to set the example for everyone to follow.''

Good move by Otis and SVG. Hopefully this will light a fire under them, thus helping the whole team.
