There is a growing us-against-the-world sentiment in the Orlando locker room that the Magic aren't getting enough credit for dominating the Southeast Division, and keeping the heat on Boston and Detroit in the Eastern Conference.

It is not a forgone conclusion, Magic players insist, the Pistons and Celtics are locks to be in the Eastern Conference Finals.

"A lot of the talk is about Boston and Detroit and even Cleveland some, but we want to try and make our statement come playoff time," Magic forward Rashard Lewis said. "Go ahead and sleep on us, label us as underdogs, and we'll be the team to surprise you in the playoffs.

...The Magic are the only team in the NBA to beat both Detroit and Boston twice this season. They beat the Celtics twice in Orlando and lost once in Boston, and they split four games with the Pistons.

Geez, if only they would put all those frustration into games like the last one. SVG has to teach his team to channel it on EVERY game from here on.

Read about this yesterday, and I have to say that if you want to be considered one of the best, you have to BE one of the best. We have a very good team on our hands here, and I'm definitely grateful for the season we've been having, but the Magic wouldn't even be a playoff team in the West right now if the season ended, sadly.

Luckily, we play in the weak East, but if the Magic want respect, they're going to have to earn it. Losing to teams with similar records in the MUCH harder West doesn't help (ie - Golden State). However, I'm glad to see the guys take on the "us against the world" mentality.

I'd much, much rather see them in this type of scenario than see them being a sub-.500 team fighting for a playoff spot and a one in a million chance at upsetting a superior team like they were last year. Progress, my friends.

Similar Report from the Sentinel

Dwight should tone down the complaints to the refs. He should pick only the legitimate gripes. The refs review the game tapes, and if keeps complaining even on correct calls he will get ignored in the future.

This team has some growing up to do, but it would be exciting to see how a motivated Magic team will fair in the playoffs. The Magic players should just stop talking and start showing their aggression on the court where it matters.

Just play. Who cares what a bunch of "experts" think? They don't know any more about basketball than we do. Every prediction they make is wrong. Even if they said we were contenders, I wouldn't care. Their opinion is meaningless.
